We all want a better Nigeria and see our dear country undergo the so called change out government have being shouting since last year. We all know there is no pain without a gain but must this pain also be at the expense of our future Majority of us finished last year and ever since then must of us stay at home and watch our parent go to work and come back and we sit without any tangible thing done with out our life; we find ourself stuck In middle of serving our fatherland by force from the government... On a personal taught, I feel if this government mean well for his country why must we jeopardy our future all in the name of compulsory service to our fatherland and the government feel that it on the right path on repositioning Nigeria... claim by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo that she was recommended for the EFCC job by convicted former Delta State Governor, James Ibori. Expressing surprise that a man who has been twice a Nigerian leader would “descend so low to peddle falsehood,” Waziri warned Obasanjo to respect his age or else she would “open up on him.” “I will like to warn that those who live in glass houses don’t throw stones and as such Obasanjo should not allow me open up on him. Respectable elder statesmen act and speak with decorum”, she said in a statement personally signed by her. Ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar said the claim by the former President that he was persona non grata in the United States, was not true. Obasanjo had in an interview he granted Zero Tolerance, a magazine published by the EFCC, also said that the war against corruption in the country slowed down during Waziri’s tenure because she was not qualified for the job. He had said, “Go and look at her track record. Go and look at the condition or the qualification; go and look at the type of interaction that anybody holding that job will have with a similar organisation elsewhere; did Waziri have that type? What connection did she have with FBI? What relationship did she have with Metropolitan Police in London? It’s not a picnic.” But Waziri, in the statement which showed her level of anger, said she doubted if Obasanjo could boast her level of education. The EFCC former chairman then went ahead to reel out her educational qualification and her relationship with international security agencies while serving in the Nigeria Police Force for 35 years. She said, “Again for the record, I served in the NPF for 35 years and got to the pinnacle of my career before my appointment as the EFCC chairman. If Obasanjo’s real age has not blurred his memory, I will like to remind him that I was a Commissioner of Police, Admin Force CID, CP, General Investigations, CP, Anti-fraud, CP , X squad, CP, and Police Special Fraud Unit where I secured the first conviction in a case of Advance Fee Fraud in Nigerian history. “These are all prime investigative organs of the Nigeria Police where I related with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI across the world. I must place on record that at the SFU, I did not only relate with the FBI, Interpol and the Metpolice, among others , we carried out joint operations at different times on a number of cases. I have also led the Nigerian delegation to the Interpol headquarters in France. “To further expose the height of mischief in the allegations, the past and present chairmen of the EFCC have both worked under me; yet someone can open his mouth to say I am not qualified to head the same agency. This is in addition to my educational qualifications such as a first degree in Law, a Master’s degree in Law and another Master’s degree in Strategic Studies. I doubt if Obasanjo himself can boast this level of educational qualifications. “I will also like to remind Obasanjo that no chairman of the EFCC has till date beaten my records in terms of investigation of high profile cases, prosecution, conviction and recovery.” She told Obasanjo that the Act establishing the EFCC stipulates that the chairman shall ‘be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; and possess not less than 15 years cognate experience’. Waziri said while she holds the office of a Head of State in the highest esteem, it was necessary to put on the record for the umpteenth time, that the claim that Ibori recommended her for the EFCC job “ is a totally unfounded, blatant lie.” The ex-anti graft Czar added, “The truth is that I never met Ibori in my life until after months in office as chairman of the EFCC when I used to see him in the Presidential Villa. It is on record today that I initiated the investigation that drove Ibori into the waiting hands of the Interpol and the Metpolice. “As such, it is illogical and nonsensical for anyone to continue to insinuate that Ibori had a hand in my appointment. I remember this was one of the lies Obasanjo’s sit-tight pawns cooked to stop my appointment as the EFCC chairman in 2008.” According to her, the late President Umaru Yar’Adua did not have to alter the Act “when he was appointing me unlike what Obasanjo did.” She told the former President that ability to be used to victimise political enemies in the rabid pursuit of his third term agenda “has never been part of the qualifications for appointment as chairman of the anti-graft agency.” Also, Abubakar said there was no way he could be arrested if he travelled to the US. He added that Obasanjo’s repeated ‘jokes’ about his “ not being able to go to the US have become a cliché, tiresome and not true.” In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Mallam Garba Shehu, the former vice-president said his visa to the US had recently been renewed. “The former President is wrong. It is widely known that Abubakar didn’t enter government broke. He declared his assets at the commencement of his Vice Presidency and did so at the end of his tenure.” the statement added. It stated that in 2006, Obasanjo sent his National Security Adviser to stop Abubakar from travelling to the US on the grounds that he risked arrest on arrival. The ex-VP, according to the statement, spurned that advice, left Nigeria and landed at the Andrews Air Force Base, the official airport of the US government. It added that shortly after Yar’Adua was inaugurated as President, Abubakar claim by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo that she was recommended for the EFCC job by convicted former Delta State Governor, James Ibori. A Bosnian man is suing his ex-girlfriend for allegedly “abusing” his sperm so she could bear a child with European genes. The 41-year-old Ahbabovic, who is also a Malaysian permanent resident, is a commercial director of a private limited company in Malaysia. Ervin Ahbabovic filed the suit in the High Court Registry through Messrs The Law Chambers of Mohamad Fauzi on Friday. The suit was made known to the press on Tuesday. In the statement of claim, Ervin said he entered into a relationship with the 29-year-old in the hope that he would establish a “God-blessed” union. The 41-year-old commercial director of a private limited company alleged that they had lived together and were blessed with a baby boy born on Feb 7, 2010. Ervin said that at the time, he hoped the relationship would develop and lead to a marriage. The defendant, however, apparently did not reciprocate his feelings and perceived their relationship negatively. After the birth of their son, Ervin alleged the defendant constantly looked for faults and quarrelled with him, creating a harsh and disharmonious environment. Ervin, who was also a business consultant for several companies since 1995, claimed he eventually realised that her sexual desire and dominant attitude towards him crossed normal boundaries. He alleged that she demanded sexual intercourse with six times a day, for approximately one hour each time. He added that she constantly threatened to commit suicide if her sexual desire was not fulfilled or if he left her. Ervin claimed that the defendant became violent and stabbed his left forearm on Sept 3, last year. He said he felt humiliated, subdued, traumatised, extremely stressed and shocked because the defendant not only chased him out from the house but also prohibited him from seeing his son. After the incident, Ervin said he contacted the defendant to reconcile for their son’s benefit, but she told him that he was merely a “tool” and wanted his sperm to have a better offspring. The plaintiff is seeking monetary compensation of RM600,000 for the usage of his sperm for the purpose of getting a child in a wrongful way and also to have him recognised as the father of their son in the birth certificate as well as costs and further relief deemed fit and proper by the court. Ervin’s counsel Nasir Yusof told the media that the case management had been fixed on Oct 1. Nasir said he would serve the writ of summons to the defendant within 14 days beginning on Wednesday, Sept 4. |

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that unless the Federal Government changes its tactics and do the right thing, universities in the country will remain shut “as long as they continue with the deception.” ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge, reacting to the directive by the Federal Government that the striking lecturers should return to classrooms, said such order should not be taken seriously. He told Nigerian Tribune on telephone in Abuja on Sunday that the union has had enough of such “deception from IBB, to Abacha, Obasanjo and now President Goodluck Jonathan.” Fagge insisted that the Federal Government had an agreement with ASUU in 2009 and that it was that agreement the union is asking the government to implement. He said: “I think when two people sit down and talk, they should be bound by the agreement. Let government change its tactics and do the right thing, then we will return to work.” Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim had on Friday last week while addressing the Chairmen of Governing Councils and Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities directed ASUU to return to work while pending issues are being resolved. The directive was against the backdrop of reports credited to ASUU leadership that it would discontinue talks with the government. ASUU began its current strike on July 1 following failure of government to implement a 2009 agreement on public universities funding between the two parties. However, ASUU President, told Nigerian Tribune in Abuja that the union was not averse to further discussion with the government but that “the right thing must be done.” SGF had on Friday last week directed all the governing councils of various universities to ensure that gates of the institutions are opened to students as from this week. He said: “Mr. President is fully committed to bringing the students back to school and appreciates the patience of parents and students as government is making every effort to revitalise the university system. “By this demonstration of clear commitment to revitalise the university system, government hereby urges every staff member of the nation’s universities to return to work as all issues are being resolved. “With particular reference to the contentious issue of Earned Allowance, every member of staff of the universities that is so entitled should verify his claim with his university council and accordingly get paid,” he said. SGF said the Earned Allowance was the major issue in dispute, adding that traditionally, universities pay the deserving staff but “because of the amount which ASUU now claims as arrears, government decided to assist the university councils to pay.” He noted that government did not receive any computation of amount involved until February, 2013 and that ASUU demanded for an outrageous sum of N92 billion arrears for three years’ payment based on percentage of range of between 15 and 20 per cent of personnel cost. Senator Anyim further said: “After series of discussions involving the National Assembly, the SGF, the Chairman of the Needs Assessment Report Implementation Committee, Governor Gabriel Suswam; the Ministers of Education, Labour and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and other stakeholders, government has now provided N30 billion to support the university councils in settling the Earned Allowances.” According to him, all other issues of Consolidated Salary Structure for Academics in Nigerian Universities (CONUASS II, amendment of Pensionable Retirement Age of Academics in the Professorial cadre to 70 years have been fully implemented. Anyim said most of the issues contained in the 2009 agreement, which necessitated the current strike have been fully met except for the earned allowances which ASUU pegged at N92 billion. |
