According to South Africa’s media house, Timeslive, the organisers decided to cancel the show because of the outrage it had created. It also reports that the organisers of the show talked with Burna Boy’s management and decided to withdraw him from the concert and cancel his show.

“The decision to cancel the Africans Unite Concert comes after the call from the Tshwane Entertainment Collective to boycott the Africans Unite concert in Tshwane. With the increasing threats of violence from other unfortunate segments of the public and without any government intervention, Phambili Media and Play Network Africa were prompted to take the threats and warnings seriously, as the safety of all artists and attendees could not be guaranteed. We then decided to cancel the concert.

They said the decision to cancel the shows came after warnings of a shutdown from a group of artists and event organisers under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective.

She made the statement while speaking with QedTV at Funmi Iyanda’s Nigeria premiere of debut movie, Walking with Shadows, last Thursday, Raccah said Nigerians must wake up to the reality of homosexuality. The Movie Walking with Shadows is a movie about a lady who discovered her husband was gay and the discovery changed everything for her. Raccah said: “It’s high time we began to accept every human being irrespective of their sexuality. I’m a human being whether I am straight or gay. It’s high time we began to realise that we are basically just one and we shouldn’t judge.

I know we have this 14 year sentencing in Nigeria but then again you can’t change a person whoever he or she is. “Some people say being gay is made, you become gay. I don’t believe that. I believe someone who is gay is born that way, that’s who the person is, and it is not a disease. It is not something to be afraid of. It is not something to judge.” Asked if she will accept her child if he or she grows up to be gay, Ashionye responded If you are born straight, that’s who you are. If I am born lesbian, that’s who I am.

I did not become lesbian. Like I said, it’s not a disease. I have people close to me, family and close friends, who are actually homosexual men and queer women and I absolutely love them. To be honest, I have a lot of male friends who are actually homosexuals and they give the best advice. They love me for who I am and I absolutely love them for who they are”.

When asked if she supports the repeal of the 14 year jail penalty for any homosexual caught in the act, she said ”Yes! Why should we judge people for who they are. Well, only one winner emerged on the final day, and she also happens to be the first female winner on the show, Mercy Eke. After winning the show, the young lady granted an interview to MediaRoomHub, where she spoke on her relationship with co-star, Ike, as well as on why it is better to be evicted than disqualified.

Mercy who is fondly called Lambo or Queen of Highlights by fans explained that she had not planned to fall in love on the show but things changed when she met Ike. She said: “During my audition, I said it, that I was single but not searching. I said to myself I can do it all alone, like I want to play this game alone. I am a big fan of Big Brother Naija. I used to watch the show back to back, I have a particular housemate then I want to be like, during that time I was single, I just want to play it alone and have fun. But when I met Ike, a whole lot of things changed, we started off as best friends, then the house… They started calling us boyfriend and girlfriend even when Ike hasn’t asked me out, they are already instigating, you know when you wake up, you gist and see this person, there are possibilities of falling in love.”

Also sharing words of advice with fans who wish to participate in the show next year, she explained that no matter what they do, they should not allow themselves get disqualified. Heated fight between Mercy and Tacha that led to Tacha’s disqualification Mercy said:

“The people out there that are aspiring to go to Big Brother, no matter what you do, do not let yourself get disqualified. Always work on your anger issues, always work on yourself. It’s better to be evicted than to be disqualified.” She also explained that getting disqualified is a big let down for fans who have spent their hard-earned money on votes.
