Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, has engaged the services of Taekwondo professionals to train young girls on the sport for self defence against rapists.

Mrs Akeredolu said this on Friday, when she delivered a letter to the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ondo State, Mr Undie Adie, to express her displeasure over the rising incidents of rape in the state.

The governor’s wife was on the visit to Adie’s office over the rape of a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, by soldiers at the Ikare/Akungba road checking point last week.

She vowed not to treat the issue of rape in the state with levity.

She appealed to the Police to ensure that the perpetrators were treated as criminals by prosecuting them accordingly, for violating a civilian.

According to her, soldiers are supposed to be protectors of civilians, but this incidence has proven that Ondo women are not safe with anyone, hence, the need to equip them with Taekwondo skills for self-defence.

She noted that if the case of a soldier in army uniform raping a woman was brought to the fore and perpetrators made to face the full wrath of the law, it would serve as a deterrent to others.

Mrs Akeredolu, who disclosed that she had earlier scheduled a One Million Woman Protest Against Rape in Army Uniform for Thursday, explained that she decided to suspend it so that political distractors would not capitalise on that to cause confusion.

Responding, the CP assured her that the case would be treated with all seriousness, adding that the Police have not been taking the issue of rape lightly.

Adie assured her that as soon as the Army Commander transferred the suspects to his command, they would be charged to court immediately.

33-year-old single mother of two and Politician, Honourable Munira Suleiman Tanimu, has remarried.

The philanthropist and entrepreneur, got married to Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba on July 27, in a grand wedding held at her event centre in Abuja.

Tanimu ran for the office of Member, Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Lere East Constituency under PDP. In June, 2019, she decamped to APC.

A 24-year-old Nigerian student has died after his car hit a tree before it was overturned in front of Cyberjaya National School (SK) in Malaysia.

The crash happened at about 6.20am. The victim, Muhammad Saad Yuguda, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. .

Muhammad was found stuck in the driver's side of his Honda Civic. In a video from the scene, a lady, suspected to be his girlfriend, can be seen crying over his corpse.

The mother of the immediate past Senator (Ogun East) and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Buruji Kashamu, has died at the age of 92.
Madam Wulematu Kashamu was said to have passed on on Wednesday afternoon in Lagos.

Kashamu’s media aide, Austin Oniyokor, confirmed the death of the nonagenarian on telephone Wednesday.
The cause of death of the late aged woman was not made known.

Oniyokor, however, stated that the deceased would be buried on Thursday in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State according to Islamic rites.

The corpse of a 109 years old woman buried in Jos, Plateau state, was exhumed after she was discovered to have been buried by the wrong family.

Mrs. Naomi Bot, died on 26th July, 2019, and was slated for burial on Monday, August 5, at Assemblies of God Church, Danye Turu village in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

However, she was buried on Saturday, August 3, 2019 in place of Mrs. Kumbo Pam Badung, 103.

Mrs. Badung died on 24th July, 2019 and was to be buried near COCIN LCC Rawuk, Vwang also in Jos South LGA. Her corpse was however abandoned at the Vom Christian Hospital Mortuary, Jos where it was deposited alongside Mrs. Bot's, MKB reports.

It was however not discovered until Mrs. Bot’s family relations went on Monday morning to pick her corpse for burial.

Sympathizers were already waiting at the Church and at the mortuary premises when close relations requested to have a last glimpse of her before taking her for burial.

"When the hospital attendant opened the corpse after safely locking it in the casket, we discovered the corpse to be different and raised alarm,” said a family member.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the corpse had been released and buried to a different family two days earlier.

The family however insisted on exhuming and taking it home. The family source said:

“We took their own corpse, traced the family and asked to be given back our grand mother’s corpse. They wanted to protest that their casket was expensive and therefore we should only take the corpse and leave the casket for them to bury their real relative but it was already decaying and they had to allow us take it with the casket.”

Although Mrs. Badung’s family admitted not properly inspecting the corpse before burial, the situation nearly resulted in chaos.

It took the intervention of community and religious leaders to settle the disagreement.

Mrs. Bot was later buried in her ancestral home in Danye Turu nearly four hours after the official internment time.

The Vom Christian Hospital says it has resolved to sack the Mortuary attendant who swapped the corpses.

The decision was taken at an emergency management meeting summoned after the incident.

The hospital will henceforth place name tags on corpses to avert future misidentification, its Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Fred Dachung told MK.

Ajibola Shogbamimu the Nigerian man otherwise known as Shohfah-El Israel has been sentenced by a UK court to a minimum 17 years for the murder of missing midwifery student Joy Morgan.

Shohfah-El Israel was convicted by a jury at Reading Crown Court of killing Ms Morgan after spending time alone with her against strict church rules in December.

The 20-year-old’s body has never been recovered, despite extensive police searches of hundreds of acres of land in Hertfordshire, Kilburn Times reported Passing sentence this afternoon Judge Michael Soole said:

“Only you know the circumstances of your terrible deed and why you did it. You are evidently an intelligent man and have said nothing beyond the lies and the explanations which the jury has rejected.

“The court has heard the most moving personal statement from Joy’s mother Carol Morgan, which speaks of Joy’s warm, loving and caring personality and character. On top of all this must be the very particular and continuing distress and suffering which flows from your cruel and cowardly silence about Joy Morgan’s final resting place.

“I am only too conscious that no sentence of the Court can palliate the loss and grief for Mrs Morgan and the wider family.”

The court heard Israel lied to the police when he was arrested, saying he had dropped Ms Morgan off at her student accommodation in Hatfield after a celebratory dinner at the American-founded Israel United in Christ Church they attended in Ilford, east London, on December 26.

He later admitted he had in fact spent two nights alone with the University of Hertfordshire student in his Cricklewood flat, but claimed his lies were due to concerns about having broken church rules banning women from being alone with men other than their husbands.

After killing Ms Morgan, he attempted to cover his tracks by removing her number from a church Telegram group chat, the court heard, and even kept up the pretence by going to her student house share under the guise of checking on her in the days after she apparently went missing. A signal from Ms Morgan’s phone, which has never been found, was detected in Israel’s car in the Stevenage area on December 28, at which point the jury was told he was most likely “looking for somewhere to dispose of the body”.

The Lagos state police command has. arrested a notorious armed robber and cult ring leader, Ismaila Rasaq aka Odia who has been on the state police command wanted list.

A statement from the command's spokesperson, Bala Elkana, says officers from Ilemba Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kazeem Abonde, arrested Rasaq who resides at No. 27 Alubatika House Ajangbadi, Lagos on July 28th. Bala says the suspect is the leader a notorious armed robbery gang responsible for robbery attacks within Iba, Okokomaiko, Ojo and Ajangbadi using Okada motorcycles.

According to the police spokesperson, Rasaq and his gang members operate mostly in restaurants, bars and ware shops. He added that the suspect is number two in the hierarchy of leaders of Eiye confraternity , ravaging Abraham Adesanya College of Education ijanikin and its environs and has participated in killing a member of rival group at Ojo area this year in retaliation of the killing of their member.

Upon interrogation, Rasaq said his cult group mostly use guns and axes in killing their victims. He confessed to have participated in the robbery operation of a sporting bet shop at IBA on June 11th alongside three other gang members where they dispossessed their handsets and money at gun point.

The CCTV footage played to him buttressed his statement as he confirmed that he was the one in the video holding a locally made shot gun. He equally confirmed that his gang members were killed by SARS operatives during a shoot out during another robbery operation at IBA.

The state Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu has ordered SARS to take over the investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

33-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling 32 Almajiris (street children) in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident was reported to the police on July 22, 2019 by the Commander Hisba Kontagora, Murtala Abdullahi.

It was learnt that the Almajiris are students of Almajiri School at Sabon-Gari area of Kontagora.

They were reportedly molested by Abubakar who they were entrusted to.

The suspect was trailed and apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the ‘A’ Division, Kontagora, following at tip-off.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have defiled the students in the school by removing their trousers when they were in deep sleep and had anal sex with them.

The suspect had allegedly been having sexual intercourse with students on a daily basis especially at night.

According to report, Abubakar usually sneaks into their rooms to defile them.

However, the school management was not aware of Abubakar’s heinous act.

The suspect said he did not know what came over him.

He said: “I have had sex with at least 32 students of the Almajiri School. I cannot even explain how I started having sexual intercourse with these students; honestly it is the work of the devil.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammad Abubakar, said the suspect had confessed to committing the crime.

He said: “The command will get to the route of this matter and fish out those hiding in Almajiri schools to commit such heinous crime. In less than no distance time the law will catch up with them and we will deal with them ruthlessly.

“Niger State is a danger zone for the perpetrators of such crime, we will not leave them unchallenged; we must bring them to book.”

The commissioner, however, said that the matter would be charged to court after investigation.

The Saudi Justice Minister Walid Mohammed Al-Samaani says he is pursuing a mazoun (marriage official) for marrying a 10-year-old girl, the Saudi Gazette has reported, quoting ministry sources.

The sources said the minister has forwarded the marriage contract to the Ministry of Labour and Social Development to decide on the marriage official’s violation of the Child Protection Law.

Under the system, mazouns should not conduct marriage contracts involving girls who are under 17 years of age.

According to the ministry, such marriages will only be solemnised by courts so as to protect the underage girls against any physical or psychological harms.

The ministry did not identify the mazoun nor the girl, the medium stated.
