A Kano High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Umar Yakubu, to death by hanging for stabbing his friend, Ibrahim Adamu, 22, to death during an argument over N20 loan.

Yakubu, who lives at Sabuwar Gandu Quarters in Kano, was convicted on one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

Delivering judgment, Justice Dije Aboki, held that the Prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Lamido Soron-Dinki, told the court that on June 13, 2018 at about 11 a.m in Sabiwar Gandu Quarters, Kano, the convict asked the deceased to give him a loan him of N20.

Soron-Dinki said the convict the stabbed the deceased in the chest with a scissors during an argument over the N20 loan.

Soron-Dinki presented six witnesses before the court while the convict defended himself.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested three suspects for alleged armed robbery.

The suspects were arrested along the Maikujeri-Kagara Road in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects: Usman Alhassan, 30; Haliru Usman, 27; and Sani Idi, 27, all from Maikujeri village, were arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Operation Puff Adder.

It was learnt that the three-member robbery syndicate had made life miserable for the residents of Rafi over the past few months before the suspects were nabbed.

Northern City News gathered in Minna on Thursday that the suspects were linked to several robbery incidents in the area.

One of the suspects, Alhassan, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent, said, “We have been into robbery for some years now. I had hoped that we would make enough money to quit and go into legitimate business before our arrest.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspects had confessed to the crime.

Abubakar said the operatives recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and 15 bundles of new wrappers from the suspects.

He added that the matter would be charged to court after investigation.

Some members of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Benue State, on Thursday, took to major roads in Makurdi in protest against the inhuman treatment of Nigerians in South Africa.

The students also locked up the offices of some companies linked to South Africa operating in Makurdi.

The students marched to the MTN and DSTV offices as well as the Shoprite mall in the state capital and shut them down.

The protest was led by the zonal deputy national coordinator of the association, Owoicho Aba.

Aba, who decried the killing of Nigerians in South Africa, noted that the students would not allow South African businesses to run in Nigeria.

He said the students had been mandated to close down all South African businesses in Nigeria, including MTN, DSTV and Shoprite.

According to him, if Nigerian businesses cannot enjoy the peace and support that South African businesses enjoy from the Federal Government, the only reasonable thing would be to close down all South African businesses in the country.

Aba stated, “It is very painful to see that the citizens of a country, which supported South Africa to attain freedom are being massacred. Nigeria fought hard to stop apartheid and now, the South Africans are paying us back with evil.

“We will not allow any South African business to thrive until a concrete arrangement is put in place to guarantee the safety of Nigerians in South Africa. We want to draw the attention of the international community to the dastardly act of killing Nigerians in South Africa.”

An MTN manager, Vera Obe, who spoke with the students, expressed the organisation’s concern over the killing of Nigerians in South Africa.

She assured the students that actions were being taken to nip the ugly incident in the bud.

A live snake brought an abrupt end to plenary in the Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

The snake dropped from the roof of the chamber, leaving lawmakers scampering for safety, according to a report by Channels TV.

Legislative activities were then suspended until the complex is renovated.

The lawmakers instantly scampered to safety as they shouted “auzubillah” “blood of Jesus” on top of their voices, while the snake escaped.

Shocked by news of his mother's sudden death, Nigerian man dies shortly after graduation from Indian University

A young Nigerian man who recently graduated from Nims University, India, has passed away.

According to report, Sulaiman Abullahi, from Adamawa State, was celebrating after finishing his second degree when he got news of his mother's death. He fell sick and never reovered.

"Shocked by the news of his mother's demise, amidst celebration of his graduation, Sulaiman fell seriously sick, a sickness that would cease his life. Allahu Akbar. He has followed his mom to a better place In Shaa Allah.

Sulaiman just finished his 2nd Degree from Nims University in India. He was an indigene of Adamawa State and a graduate of Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology, Maiduguri. He was a gentleman, very quite and humble. May Allah have mercy on his soul and his mother. May they both unite in Jannatul Firdausi. Ameen Ya Allah." a friend wrote.

The Free The Sheeple leader alleged that the act of praying for a member's enemies to die is an Antichrist doctrine, as Jesus Christ instructed Christians to pray for their enemies to prosper and even lend them money whenever they need it.
