Former Deputy Governor Of Osun State, Titi Laoye-Tomori and Prince Michael Ponle, their marital status changed when they married a few days ago.

Laoye-Tomori, who was deputy to former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf-Aregbesola took another shot at marriage after her previous marriage to a professor that produced four kids.

Also, the new groom, Prince Michael Ponnle, lost his wife, Comfort Olufunke in 2012 . Comfort, lost the battle at Cardiff Hospital, London, United Kingdom after a brief illness. She was aged 68.

Ironically, before her death, the couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 2011. Ponle, who is the owner of Miccom Golf Course Ada, Osun State, coined the name of the facility from his name, Michal and that of his wife, Comfort.

It was definitely a secret marriage devoid of all the airs that would have come with her position in the state. It was a scanty crowd.

Not only that, her church, the MFM was definitely not represented. And even in her outlook she must have looked like a nonconformist to the MFM as she was bedecked with beads and jewelries that really befitted the occasion unlike her sparing and more austere look as Deputy Governor.

Rapheal Onwugbolu has bagged two years jail term for internet fraud. The conviction followed his prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on two counts bordering on cybercrime. .

One of the charges reads: “That you, Raphael Ifedora Onwugbolu (a.k.a Jeffrey Hanks) sometime in 2006 at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, fraudulently impersonated one Jeffrey Hanks, an American medical foctor based in South Africa, with intent to obtain property to wit: the sum of $5,000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) from one Maria Sandas, an American resident, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Act.”

He pleaded guilty to all the charges. Following his 'guilty plea', prosecuting counsel, Olanrewaju Adeola, informed the court of a plea bargain agreement entered with the defence team, and urged the court to adopt same and sentence the defendant based on the terms of the agreement.

In his response, defence counsel, Adaji Abel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying the defendant has become a changed person since 2006 when the offence was committed.

Justice Taiwo adopted the terms of the plea bargain and convicted him accordingly.
In his ruling, the court held that: “I am mindful of these types of crime in our society, which is giving our country a bad image all over the world.

“However, in view of the plea bargain agreement, the defendant is hereby sentenced to two years in prison, but with an option of fine of N1million to be paid to the account of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the office of the EFCC."

A rescue mission ended in tragedy after a 28-year-old man was killed by the assailants at Kasuku in Ol Joro Orok, Kenya.

John Wanyati Kiarie was reportedly walking home to Gituamba village from Kasuku at 8pm last week, when he heard a distress call from a 13-year-old girl who was being defiled by two men said to be boda boda operators.

Kiarie rushed to rescue her but was hit with metal in the head and died on the way to hospital. The minor, who sustained a cut in the head, is recovering at an Ol Kalou hospital.

Nyandarua Health executive Njenga Mungai said that she is in stable condition and is undergoing counselling.

Nyandarua West subcounty police commander Isaac Ruto, who confirmed the incident said that two suspects, James Kariuki Wangari, 23, and Ken Mungai Mirugi, 20, have been arrested.

The minor mentioned their names after regaining consciousness and police swung into action before they could escape.

“We have taken the statements and locked them up. We are conducting further investigations. The law will take its cause,” he said.

The girl’s mother, who spoke to The Star on Friday, said that her daughter was returning home from her grandmother’s home when the incident occurred.

The culprits carried her on a bike but instead of dropping her off at her home, they sped away and took her to a bush near Kasuku playground.

“I was called by residents only to find her bleeding profusely,” she said.

Residents who spoke to the Star said insecurity has increased at Kasuku at an alarming rate despite having a police station and an Administration Police post.

Recently, they said, three women have been raped and some men sodomised.
They accused police of laxity saying the officers only take bribes from alcohol dealers and chewers of miraa and muguka.

The residents on Thursday afternoon cleared the bush where the incident took place.

Meanwhile, Mr Wanyati will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 2.
