Beyonce's "rapper cousin" was shot dead at his Texas apartment.

Martell Derouen, 34, better known as Kordone, was reportedly found dead in his apartment in San Antonio on Tuesday, Jan 26.

According to local reports, Derouen who had a blossoming rap career, was the cousin of the iconic singer Beyoncé.

Cops are now searching for 21-year-old Sasha Skare, who they believe is the suspect of the crime, KSAT reported.

China flies about 28 warplanes close to Taiwan in early test of Biden's foreign policy

China sent two large formations of warplanes close to the island of Taiwan, a self governing island, that Beijing claims belongs to mainland China.

The muscle flexing by China's military over the weekend, presents a significant foreign policy challenge to new United States President Joe Biden just days into his new administration.

According to Taiwan's Defense Ministry, 13 Chinese planes entered the southwestern portion of the island's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Saturday followed by 15 on Sunday, prompting Taipei to scramble fighter jets to monitor the Chinese planes.

The ADIZ is defined as "a designated area of airspace over land or water within which a country requires the immediate and positive identification, location, and air traffic control of aircraft in the interest of the country's national security."

According to Taiwan's Defense Ministry, Chinese military planes made more than 380 flights into the island's air defense identification zone last year.

The timing of the Chinese flights and their use of fighter jets and bombers appeared intended to send a message to Biden after the former Administration constantly opposed China's oppressive moves towards Taiwan.

In a statement Saturday, the Biden administration urged Beijing to stop trying to intimidate Taiwan.

"We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan's democratically elected representatives," US State Department spokesman Ned Price said, adding that US-Taiwan ties are deepening and Washington remains committed to the island's self-rule.

Beijing claims full sovereignty over Taiwan, a democracy of almost 24 million people located off the southeastern coast of mainland China, despite the fact that Taiwan has been governed separately for more than seven decades.

Many persons are feared dead after a gas plant located near Untouchable bus stop along Lagos-Asaba expressway in Agbor community, Delta state exploded on Friday evening, January 22.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire allegedly burnt some persons to death while several buildings located near the scene of the incident were burnt. Many other persons were injured during the fire outbreak.

A photos shared online showed some of the burnt victims being rushed to the hospital where they are being treated.

The cause of the explosion is yet unknown.

U.S. Surgeon General, Jerome Adams has resigned from his position at the request of President Joe Biden.

Adams, 46, was nominated by former President Donald Trump and sworn into the job in September 2017

In a lengthy post on Facebook, Adams wrote:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this great Nation, as this has been the honor of my life. Three years and five months ago, I was confirmed as just the 20th United States Surgeon General - and only the second ever African American male to serve in that role.

My tenure started with three category 5 hurricanes barreling down on our citizens. I immediately deployed to witness the devastation first hand, and to lead our Public Health Service Officers as we helped with the response. I saw the best of our Nation coming together in the worse of times, to help those who’d lost everything.

I then turned my attention to the opioid epidemic, encouraging more people to carry Naloxone by issuing the first Surgeon General’s advisory in over a decade. Working across government and with amazing advocacy organizations on the ground- many led by parents who had lost their own children to opioid overdose- we were able to increase Naloxone availability nationwide by over 400%, and save countless lives. This is perhaps my proudest achievement, as my family has been personally impacted my substance misuse, and I firmly believe stigma remains one of our biggest killers and barriers to health

Being a parent of school-age children myself, I saw the need to issue subsequent advisories warning of the dangers of youth e-cigarette and youth marijuana use- a combination which merged into the deadly EVALI outbreak our Nation faced. We have made tremendous progress, but far too many- including those with mental health issues, our tribal citizens, and the LGBTQ community, haven’t shared equally in cessation successes.

And of course, there was COVID19. In the face of a once in a century pandemic, I sought to communicate the rapidly evolving science on this deadly adversary, and arm people with the knowledge and tools they needed to stay safe. I wasn’t always right- because no one was, and this virus continues to humble all of us- but I was always sincere in my efforts to speak to everyday Americans, and address the terrible health inequities this virus exposed.


My team also put out historic Surgeon General’s Calls to Action on Hypertension Control, Maternal Health, and Suicide Prevention. We did this because even in midst of a deadly pandemic, hundreds of thousands of people are killed by these other health risks every year. For example, more people died from uncontrolled high blood pressure in 2020 than from Covid-19. We mustn’t forget about all the other harms Americans face every day, or the many opportunities we have to improve health, and build more resilient communities. And we mustn’t forget that diseases and health risks rarely impact all communities equally. That's why these Calls to Action specifically mention the groups disparately impacted, and talk about the need to study and address aggravating factors like bias.

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved a new retirement age for teachers in the country from 60 years to 65 years.

The meeting, presided over by President Buhari today Wednesday, January 20, approved the bill; Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021, which will be sent to the National Assembly for its consideration and possible approval.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, said the bill also seeks to give legal backing to new measures by the current administration to enhance the teaching profession in the country.

The Presidency has reacted to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's ultimatum for herdsmen to leave forest reserves in Ondo state within 7 days.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu in a statement released on Tuesday January 19 stated that Akeredolu being a senior lawyer would be the least expected to unilaterally expel thousands of herders who have lived all their lives in the state, on account of the infiltration of the forests by criminals.

The presidency which noted that kidnapping, banditry and rustling are crimes no matter the motive or who is involved, added that it is atavistic and cruel to define crime from the nameplates.

The Special Adviser to Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, on Business Development, Deaconess Emerald Udeakaji, has tendered her resignation.


In the letter dated December 30, 2020 and addressed to the Governor, Mrs Udeakaji said she has given 100% loyalty to the Government but her family is tearing apart. She is therefore resigning to save her marriage.

A political organisation, Tinubu Support Group (TSG), has tackled the South West Caretaker Zonal Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Karounwi Oladapo, for claiming that age of the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, would affect his chances of becoming the president in 2023.

Tragedy struck in Arue-Uromi, Esan-North East Local Government Area of Edo State on Friday, January 16, when six children were crushed to death by a Mercedes Benz car bearing a learner driver sign.

It was gathered that the children, four girls and two boys, said to be siblings, were playing football when an approaching Mercedes Benz car, which in an attempt to dodge a pothole, swerved and killed them on the spot.

Another account of the incident said the children were crossing the road when the car ran into them.

The accident provoked anger as residents of the community immediately blocked the road and burnt the Mercedes Benz.

Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Henry Benamaisia, confirmed the incident.

Popular singers, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez will perform at US President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony in Washington on January 20th.

The transition team said the event will also feature remarks from a black firefighter from Georgia, a former Youth Poet Laureate, a Catholic priest, and a pastor from Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem, while Lopez will give a musical performance at the inauguration of the incoming 46th US president.

The transition team mentioned that Gaga and Lopez were chosen in order to “represent one clear picture of the grand diversity of our great nation.”

“They reflect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ “steadfast vision of a new chapter in our American story in which we are an America united in overcoming the deep divisions and challenges facing our people, unifying the country, and restoring the soul of our nation,” ithe statement read.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will soon become the largest political party in Africa and that developed nations will come learning the ropes of progressive politics from the party.

Bello said this when he spoke at the inauguration of the mobilization committee for the party’s membership registration/revalidation exercise on Tuesday, January 12.

“It is not out of place that every election in Kogi state, we are winning it with ease. We are going to repeat the same feat for the country by the grace of God.

By the time we are done with the registration of new members and revalidation of existing members in the country, APC will not just be the largest in Africa, but we are going to call on even the developed nations to come and learn not only from Nigeria, but from the APC in Nigeria.

US House passes 25th Amendment resolution to remove Trump from office, but Pence refuses to fire the President

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution on Tuesday that is calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove and replace President Donald Trump after he was accused of inciting a deadly insurrection at the US Capitol last week.

Citing Trump’s role in inciting “a massive violent invasion of the United States Capitol” on Jan. 6, the day the president had summoned his supporters to Washington to protest the certification of the Electoral College vote formalizing President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, the resolution, introduced by Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., passed by a largely party-line vote of 223-205.

The resolution asked Pence “to immediately use his powers under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the executive departments in the Cabinet to declare what is obvious to a horrified Nation: That the President is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office.”

But in a letter sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by Vice President Mike Pence, as the House was taking procedural votes on a resolution calling on him to execute the president’s removal, he stated that he would not invoke the 25th Amendment to seek to remove Trump from office.

“With just eight days left in the president’s term, you and the Democratic Caucus are demanding that the Cabinet and I invoke the 25th Amendment. I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with the Constitution,” Mr. Pence wrote.

School threatens Muslim girl's parents with legal action because her school skirt is too long

A school has threatened a Muslim schoolgirl’s parents with court action for refusing to send her to school in a shorter skirt.

Siham Hamud, 12, had been wearing an ankle-length skirt to school for years, but was allegedly told the school uniform was incorrect last month, December 2020.

Her father Idris, 55, said Siham was sent home from Uxbridge High School to change every day in December, and told to return wearing the correct uniform, but she refused.

The school, Uxbridge High School, in Hillingdon, west London, says girls should wear black trousers or a black pleated skirt from official uniform suppliers, which the family says falls above the knee. Idris, who has 8 kids, said both uniform choices go against his family's Islamic religion.

The family said they recently discovered a new school uniform rule about skirts was introduced two years ago, stating shorter school-branded skirts had to be worn. But the family claim they didn’t know, and Siham continued wearing her longer skirt, unaware until she was pulled up on December 1. She was sent home to change but didn’t return, and the same thing happened each day for the three weeks of term in December, her family said.

The school, has now threatened Idris and his wife Salma Yusuf, 44, with legal action over Siham’s alleged unauthorised absences.

Siham, who is currently studying from home due to lockdown restrictions, said:

‘It feels like bullying because of what I believe. ‘I think they should just let me wear my school uniform to school. I like school normally, and English, drama and RE are my favourite lessons but I couldn’t attend...

Youths burn truck and the cattle in it after a boy was crushed by the truck in Oyo


Youths in Saki, Oyo state, set a truck ablaze after a boy was knocked down in the area.

The truck, which was conveying some cows, was burnt with the cows in it.

The truck driver reportedly knocked down a boy named Ayuba Raji on Monday evening, Jan 11, at Challenge junction in Saki.

The victim was riding a Boxer motorcycle and was hit by a truck transporting cows out of Saki.

Spokesman of Saki Town Development, Mr Adekunle Lawal, who confirmed the incident, urged the contractors handling the Saki dual lane to do something about the road to avoid a repeat of yesterday's tragedy.
