Cattle and Foodstuff dealers under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN), will today commence a nationwide strike following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given to the federal government to attend to their demands.

AUFCDN, an affiliate of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had on Sunday at a press briefing said the union was demanding protection of its members, payment of N475 billion compensation for lives of members and properties lost during the #EndSARS protest and Shasa market chaos.

The union also demanded that the government should order dismantling of all road blocks on federal highways due to problems its members get subjected to when carrying out their duties.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekwazu, has said that a new variant of COVID19 has been detected in Nigeria and 15 other countries.

Ihekweazu who disclosed this on Monday, February 22, at the press briefing of the presidential Task Force on COVID19, said the new strain, B.1.2.5 which is different from the highly infectious B.1.1.7 has not been described as a variant of concern.

A woman who registered to learn driving at a Lagos driving school was shocked when she saw the car brought to use in teaching her.

The car seems to be in the last phase of its life. The interior looks almost bare, with wires visible and mostly joined together with tapes.

The Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Chief Bode George has asked the Lagos State Government to prove that the son of an All Progressives Congress(APC) leader, Seyi Tinubu, does not own or control the Lekki tollgate.

In a statement titled

“We Must Withdraw from the Brink” and released on Friday February 19, George also questioned the relationship between Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare and the Lekki Concession Company. He also wondered why tolls are being collected from Lagosians when the Lekki-Ikoyi Tollgate was ''built from scratch with taxpayers money.''

Bode George said;

“We are demanding that the Lagos State Government through the Freedom of Information Act publishes the names of those who are managing the Toll Gates.

“We do remember however that there was a buy-back several years ago returning the control and ownership of the Admiralty Tollgate to the Lagos State Government. The Lekki-Ikoyi Tollgate was built from scratch with taxpayers money.

The Lagos State Government says it will vaccinate no fewer than 1.5 million dogs within the next two weeks.

The government on Tuesday said the exercise will take place during the free anti-rabies vaccination campaign embarked upon to prevent deaths of animals in the state.

Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the State Commissioner for Agriculture made this known at the inauguration of the vaccination campaign held at the palace of Oba Ayangburen of Ikorodu in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The commissioner urged pet owners to bring their dogs for the exercise, noting that the government has made the exercise free of charge for the citizenry.

A man's pen!s was left extremely swollen after he tried enlarging it with a metal ring for Valentine's Day.

The unnamed man wanted to impress his date on Valentine's Day and had heard a simple trick using only the contents of his toolbox could do the job.

However, in a turn of events, the metal rings became stuck and was only removed after medics sliced through it with a metal-cutter.

He told medics: "I was terrified that I would need my penis amputated. It had swollen so much that I thought it would burst."


The man from Bangkok, Thailand believed that by putting his penis through a nut, it would enlarge and strengthen it by forcing blood into the glands.

However, after using baby oil to slide his penis into the nut, the next day his penis started to swell. He began experiencing pain and was unable to remove it...

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has said it is enhancing surveillance at points of entry into the country following the recent outbreak of Ebola outbreak in neighbouring countries.

PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha who spoke at the task force's press briefing on Monday February 15, said they will be keeping a "keen eye" to avoid having to combat two deadly diseases at the same time.

Mustapha said;



“The PTF wishes to underscore the fact that respect for national protocols, setting up of appropriate infrastructure and the all-round protection of our travelling nationals shall remain paramount in our consideration and the eventual outcome.

“The oxygen strategy we are pursuing nationwide under case management is receiving the needed support from the global fund. This will involve the repairs of 36 plants nationwide.

“The process is ongoing and you will be briefed as it progresses. The objective is to make sure that oxygen is available within the shortest possible travelling distance for hospitals to procure for patients. As you are aware, the president has already approved the repairs of existing plants around the country....

A Mexican beauty queen is facing up to 50 years in prison after being arrested on suspicion of being part of a kidnapping gang.

Laura Mojica Romero, 25, is currently being detained in Huatusco, a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz.

She is one of three women and five men arrested by authorities. She was identified only by her first name in a statement released by investigators in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz.

Ms. Mojica was described as one of 'eight alleged members of a criminal organisation specialising in kidnap' in the statement.

Prosecutors said an elite anti-kidnap unit had acted to ensure there was 'no truce for people who cause serious harm to Veracruz' following their arrest.

They added: 'The capture of Luis Antonio 'N'; Raúl 'N'; María del Rosario 'N'; Ana Martha 'N'; Laura 'N'; César Enrique 'N'; Diego 'N' and Jossiel 'N' took place in Veracruz when personnel specialized in tackling kidnapping carried out an operation to capture those now linked to this judicial investigation.

'The eight alleged kidnappers have been remanded in custody for two months while the investigation continues....

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has called for the cancellation of the ongoing membership registration and validation exercise of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.



Speaking at a press conference in his hometown, Oro on Monday February 15, Lai Mohammed said the exercise needs to be cancelled because the committee in-charge flouted the guidelines regarding distribution of materials.



He also accused the committee of taking sides on the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party by sidelining major ‘stakeholders’ who worked for the election of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.



The statement read;



TEXT OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE HON. MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND CULTURE, ALHAJI LAI MOHAMMED,ON THE ONGOING APC MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION EXERCISE …IN ORO, KWARA STATE, ON MONDAY, FEB. 15TH 2021

Good morning gentlemen of the press.

2. As you are aware, the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration started in Kwara State on Feb. 9th 2021. Ahead of my registration this morning at my polling unit, PU 006, Oro Ward 2, we had sent out our people to monitor the process to ensure compliance with the guidelines stipulated by the party. The reports from our monitoring teams are out, and I wish to inform you, gentlemen, that sadly, the whole exercise did not comply with the stipulated guidelines.

3. The guidelines stipulate consultation with all stakeholders by the Registration Officials from Abuja. After the botched attempt to have a meeting of stakeholders, due to orchestrated violence, the Registration Officials failed to consult with all stakeholders before the commencement of the membership registration exercise, opting instead to work with only one of the four tendencies here in Kwara, the Fagbemi Group to which the Governor belongs, thus excluding the three other tendencies – The Akogun Group, the Gbemi Saraki Group and the Lai Mohammed Group, without which the ‘O To Ge’ Movement would not have succeeded. Ironically, the Fagbemi Group is the weakest of the four tendencies. Out of the 193 wards in the state, the group has only nine ward chairmen and does not have even one local government chairman. Even at the state EXCO, the Fagbemi group has only four members. Also, the recruitment of officials for the registration has been a one-sided affair and indications are that the hand-picked officials are under strict orders ‘from above’ as to how to carry out the exercise. We have evidence to corroborate this.

China's broadcasting regulator has banned the BBC World Service from airing there, according to a report in Chinese state media. The news follows a move by Britain's communications regulator last week to strip the state-run China global television network of its broadcast license in the U.K.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, China's National Radio and Television Administration said BBC World News "was found to have seriously violated regulations on radio and television management and on overseas satellite television channel management in its China-related reports which went against the requirements that news reporting must be true and impartial, and undermined China's national interests and ethnic solidarity."

Xinhua quoted a statement from the regulator: "As the channel fails to meet the requirements to broadcast in China as an overseas channel, BBC World News is not allowed to continue its service within Chinese territory. The NRTA will not accept the channel's broadcast application for the new year."

A yet to be identified young man has been confirmed dead after he was brought out of a well in Farin Gada area of Jos, Plateau state on Friday morning, February 5.

It was gathered that the deceased jumped from a storey building while attempting to flee from operatives of the Economic and Financial Cromes Commission (EFCC) who stormed their house at ECWA staff quarters to arrest them for alleged fraud and cyber crime.

While his six flat mates were arrested by the operatives, the young man jumped from the first floor and hid inside the well in the compound.

His corpse was brought out of the well by men of the Federal Fire Service Jos on Friday morning after a report was lodged in their office.

His legs were said to be broken as a result of the high jump.

Police were on ground to evacuate the corpse from the scene.

Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered banks and other financial institutions to close customer accounts used in trading cryptocurrencies and other related transactions.

In a circular seen circulating on social media on Friday afternoon, the Nigerian bank regulator ordered deposit money banks, non-bank financial institutions and other financial institutions to “identify persons and/or entities transacting in or operating cryptocurrency exchanges within their systems and ensure that such accounts are closed immediately. “

World heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury has revealed that his wife Paris is pregnant with the couple’s sixth child.

The pair already have five children, three sons and two daughters, and are now set to welcome another addition.

The boys are named Prince John James, Prince Tyson Fury II and Prince Adonis Amaziah with the two daughters named Valencia and Venezuela.

Fury, who has always said he loves big families and would like his wife to give birth to 11, revealed: ”Paris is pregnant again and the Lord has blessed us definitely with another child and I’m very thankful.

“Got a beautiful wife, beautiful kids, they’re all healthy. That’s the most important thing, you know, your health and your family.

“Nothing else really matters. Your job, your money, your wealth, your career, none of that really matters because you can get another job, you can start snooker or you can go make more money.

“It doesn’t really matter but the one thing you can’t get back is your family. You can’t get back time lost and that’s the crazy thing about it all.”

A container laden truck fell on a private car parked inside the premises of a private school at Anthony Village loop, in Lagos at about 12pm today February 3.

Speaking on the incident, the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osamyintolu, said;

“The agency has activated its response plan to a fallen container which landed on a Toyota Corolla car with registration AKD 172 FK.

The truck with registration AYE 628 ZQ fell over while descending the Anthony Oke loop inward Ikorodu Road. Fortunately, the car was unoccupied so there are no casualties. Operation ongoing with Agency officials, LASTMA and the Nigerian police on the scene of the school premises. Motorists were advised to avoid the axis due to congestion.''

Secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha has said that no one in the world is safe until everyone gets the Coronavirus vaccine.

Speaking during a sensitisation meeting with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja on Monday February 1, the SGF who is the chairman of the presidential task force on COVID-19 called on religious leaders to step up to educate their followers about the pandemic.

Mustapha who averred that every Christian should be an advocate for vaccines, also noted that the global infections have exceeded one hundred million while fatalities have also crossed the two million mark.

Gunmen suspected to be assassins killed a man identified as Emeke Ojere, at Ugbomro community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state.

The father of three, who hails from Oyoko-Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area of the state but resides in Warri, was shot dead in his car on Saturday, January 30.

One Mr Egbehon who drove the G-LK Mercedes Benz car told journalists that he was in the car with his “Oga” (the deceased) and another occupant when gunmen accosted them.

"We went to Ogbomro community to visit one of our townsmen but suddenly gunmen blocked us and asked us to lay down. Oga was shot before they left." Egbehon said.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident to The Punch, said operatives are intensifying efforts to nab the fleeing gunmen.

Mavin Records singer, Rema has reacted to the ongoing feud between DJ Cuppy and rapper, Zlatan Ibile.

Yesterday, singer Zlatan shocked Nigerians after he said he doesn’t know who DJ Cuppy was, when asked why he blocked her on WhatsApp.

Zlatan’s response caused lots of controversy as Nigerians on social media dragged him for being rude and condescending to DJ Cuppy.

A Nigerian woman identified as Khadijat Kabir Ali Mai Katifa has died five days after her wedding.

Khadijat got married to Ibrahim Muhammad Dan Azumi, a staunch follower of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday, January 24, 2021, in Dutse area of Kano state.

According to her family, she died on Friday morning, January 29.
