Eight Years After, Abuja Body of Comedians Set For Election, Withdrawals Rock Exercise As Strong Contender Remains Unopposed After eight years of his extended tenure, Dr Ayuba may soon hand over the presidency of Abuja Body of Comedians, ABC to an elected official as efforts are at top gear to organise a credible election in coming weeks. Dr. Ayuba is reputed to have brought stability in the Abuja Body of Comedians in the past eight years by fostering unity and harmony. This is seen in the number of top comedians to come out to support each other at their various events with or without financial commitment from the host colleague. This comes as some contenders are announcing their withdrawal from the race, citing conspiracy, hate and betrayal that have allegedly enveloped the atmosphere. Ghana-must-go who had recently stepped down said even though he has all what it takes to take ABC to greater heights, he would not go ahead with the race as president of the body. However, a top contender for presidency of the body, Onome De Saint may not have a bumpy ride to clinch to the top position in the ABC as he appears not to to have a strong opposing force. The battle may have shifted to office of the vice president of the body as three top contenders, Amb. Wahala, CriSnow and Nick B will test their popularity at the upcoming election. Rumours have it that Nick B may withdraw from the race though our correspondent cannot independently verify this. Also, MC Steve also is a top contender who appears not to have a strong opposition for position of Assistant Secretary of ABC. Asawana was was vying for the Secretary, had earlier announced his withdrawal from the race though no reason was given. The industry has in recent times witnessed mass entry of new members. This is attributable to membership drive embarked upon by the leadership of Dr. Ayuba, a veteran MC and comedian who has done well in the industry. His target is to reposition Abuja entertainment industry through the enhancement of unity and oneness among practitioners to compete with Lagos which has a larger market. The new impact being made by Abuja entertainers has also made them to be on high demand in Lagos shows, unlike before when they could not attract such recognition. Abuja comedians have however attracted criticisms for not making adequate preparations in terms of attracting willing partners and sponsors, adequate publicity and enough notice to guests before hosting events. This is attributable to why some events in Abuja are greeted with lots of empty seats. It is hoped that the new administration will put this into consideration in its agenda. https://www.abujapress.com/2022/03/eight-years-after-abuja-body-of.html?m=1

Amidst Cheers, APC Convention: Prince Olatunbosun Obtains Form For National Youth Leader A chieftain of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Prince Ishola Abiodun Olatunbosun has made real his readiness to clinch the position of the National Youth Leader of the party as he obtains his form at the party's national secretariat on Friday. This came amidst cheers and jubilation among his supporters. Prince Olatunbosun who was a member of the recently constituted Committee for FCT polls where he ensured victory for APC Chairmanship candidate in Gwagwalada Area Council has since expression of interest continued to receive series of endorsements from youth groups within the party. Earlier, a youth group group within the party, National Youth Network has endorsed him as the national youth leader of the APC. According to the group, this endorsement follows a careful observation of the activities of Prince Olatunbosun as well as due consideration of his antecedents as a stalwart of the party where he has for years made valuable contributions in building the youth community in APC. The endorsement letter signed by the National Coordinator of APC National Youth Network, Amb. Salahudeen Shuaibu also noted that Prince Olatunbosun is its sole candidate for APC National Youth Leader ahead of its March 26 convention. The party on Friday vacated an order of the court stopping it from holding the convention. This came after a crisis that threatened to mar the convention following the purported removal of it Chairman Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and the governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni. The INEC however failed to accord recognition to Gov. Sani Bello of Niger state as the Acting Chairman Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee. This forced the party to make a U-turn by reinstating Buni as its Chairman Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee. https://www.statepress.ng/2022/03/amidst-cheers-apc-convention-prince.html?m=1

International Women's Day: FCT Minister Of State, Ramatu Aliyu Empowers Mothers, Calls For Gender Friendly Environment As part of activities marking the 2022 International Women's Day, no fewer than three women have been empowered by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu with cash sums of N250,000, N500,000, N1m to assist them in boosting their businesses to cater for their families and orphanages including job opportunities for the graduate children of the Women. This comes as the Minister noted that some cases of gender-based violence are traceable to lack of empowerment opportunities available to the women. At a stakeholders forum organised by the Federal Capital Territory Administration on Thursday at Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, the Minister noted that there is a wide gap between men and women in terms of access to economic opportunities, urging for empowerment of more women in the country. The Minister also expressed displeasure that at a time the global community is committing so much time and energy to harness to enormous potentials women have for advancement and promotion of their environment, Nigeria is yet to utilise the opportunity at its disposal to make a strong statement in breaking the society-induced biases against women. While stating that the theme for this year celebration, which is “Gender Equality Today For a Sustainable Tomorrow” with the hashtag 'Break the Bias!' is apt and timely, she called on the National Assembly to revisit and reconsider passing the gender Bills recently rejected by the two chambers of the National Assembly. This according to the Minister will further bridge the widening disparity between men and women representation in the country's political scene, adding that a gender friendly environment will enable women replicate the successes they have recorded in their various professional fields at the national stage. Recall that the National Assembly had on March 1, 2022 while voting for 1999 Constitution amendment rejected Bills seeking to reserve special seats for women at the National and State Houses of Assembly, provide for affirmative action for women in political party administration, and grant citizenship to foreign-born husbands of a Nigerian woman. This however did not go down well with some women groups and civil society organisations as they have staged series of protests, calling for a rescission of the votes on the affected bills by the lawmakers. Those in attendance include the Permanent Secretary Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr. Mrs. Ene Obi, Fatima Abbas Hassan, Director of Gender Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr. Suleiman Adejoh, President, Messengers of Peace Foundation and other top dignitaries. https://www.abujapress.com/?m=1

MC Expensive Kicks As Chidinma Ojukwu Wins Miss Cell Pageant, Says It's Insensitive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOi120lwBMY An MC and public speaker, MC Expensive has taken a swipe at authorities of Ministry of Interior and Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS for allowing the alleged killer of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga, Miss Chidinma Ojukwu participate in a beauty pageant, Miss Cell at Kirikiri prison. Describing the development as insensitive, MC Expensive said it will further traumatise to family and friends of the late Ataga who lost their brother, father and breadwinner. Recall that the pictures of the suspect had broke the internet following a pageant contest which formed part of activities marking the 2022 International Women’s Day at Kirikiri prison. Chidinma Ojukwu said to have put up a sterling performance at the contest which gave her the victory at the contest and crowned Miss Cell 2022. This however did not go down well with MC Expensive as she insists there is no moral justification for allowing Miss Ojukwu take part in the contest, saying a weighty allegation of murder still hangs in her neck which makes her unfit for the fanfare she was treated with. "How on earth can a girl who's awaiting trial for gruesomely killing somebody's father, somebody's brother, somebody's husband, somebody's uncle, somebody's breadwinner be allowed to participate in a beauty pageant in a cell. "You come out, adorn this particular girl in a crown, with bouquet, you sew beautiful dresses for her. This is very insensitive and inhuman" she said. She called on the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Controller General of Nigeria Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba and other relevant agencies of government to immediately put an end to such funfair, maintaining that a murder suspect like Miss Ojukwu should not be allowed to participate in such contest. https://www.abujapress.com/2022/03/mc-expensive-kicks-as-chidinma-ojukwu.html?m=1 .

MamuZee Twins Launch Campaign Against Fake News, Seeks Sanctions Against Carriers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUorRkIKjis The singing duo Mamuzee Twins have launched a campaign to curb fake news in the society, saying it destroys images, personalities and businesses. The duo say they have been victims of fake and unverified news in the past, stating that the pain and frustration is enormous. They allegedly failed to take care of their mother which led to her death in 2018, an allegations they said almost tore them apart. This they said necessitated the campaign to get the Nigerian society rid of fake news. With the hashtag, Say No To Fake News, the entertainers also seek severe sanctions for carriers and spreaders of hate and fake news to serve as deterrence to others. In a viral video, they say the campaign has become necessary especially as Nigeria proceeds into an election year, noting that a conducive atmosphere devoid of hate and antagonism is required to have a peaceful election. They are also seeking a legislative framework that will serve as a disincentive in the manufacturing and spreading of fake news to keep the society sanitized. "FAKE NEWS destroys not just the victims, mental or physical health but his or her total well being and life. If you have been a victim of fake news , then you will understand the grave pain, shame and discomfort it brings and courses not just to you but your family, friends and well wishers" the twins stated. They further decried a situation where some bloggers, social media trolls, haters, journalists and reporters are benefitting from the pain of others by assisting in the spread of unverified information through their various media platforms, calling for an end to such. They say if efforts are not intensified to deal with the culture of spreading fake news, it will breed a lot of strife, anger, acrimony, hate, bitterness and injury to the society. "If we do not put a STOP to this menace NOW we would all one day wake up to a nation of bitterness and strife. "Fake News hurts Everybody and it's just a matter of time you too will have your own doze of the pain" they said. While noting that families, homes, marriages and relationships have been destroyed because of spread of fake news, MamuZee Twins therefore appealed for caution to media workers and social media influencers to ensure they verify reports before going ahead to share same. Fake news has been identified to be a great enabler of inter-communal conflict and killings in Nigeria and West African sub-region. It also involves the doctoring of videos and photographs of events that took place in foreign lands to make it look like a recent event that took place in a country, thereby stimulating angry reactions. #saynotofakenews #fakenewspropargatorsmustbepunnished #mamuzeetwinssaysbesurebeforeyouspreadrumors https://www.abujapress.com/2022/03/gender-and-youth-advocate-ogenna-walter.html
