*Ozigbo, Chicason, emoney, Alexreports,others shine at Anambra Man of the year award*

For their positive contributions, the people of Anambra State at the weekend celebrated and honoured some individuals who have distinguished themselves in the State and Nigeria, generally.

Those honoured were drawn from different careers which include industry, politics, education, tourism, banking sector, entertainment.



Among those honoured are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, Valentine Ozigbo, Chief Executive Officer of Chicason Group of companies , Chief Alexander Chika Okafor, deputy managing director of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Mrs Adaora Umeoji-Nwokoye, who emerged the Anambra woman of the year 2021.

Other awardees include Mr Nonso Okpala of VFD Group Plc who was named Rising Star and Inspiring Leader of the year, Alex Ekene Nwankwo (Alexreports) a popular Abuja based PR guru as the media person of the year,Chief Alexander Ejesieme (SAN) as the Legal Practitioner of the Year Award.

Others are Chief Amb Emmanuel Udechukwu (Omemma OJOTO ) who is also the Roxbury leisure homes boss, Dr Emeka Okonkwo (e-money), Most Influential person of the year,Anambra Fire Chief, Engr. Martin Agbili as the public servant of the year; Rev Fr Dr Edwin Obiorah, SAN; Chief Mrs Amaka Ezechiedo; Pharm. Sam Ubachukwu; High Chief Christopher Ndubuisi;Engr Stephen Ufoaroh and Prof Uzochukwu Solomon.



The awardees were honoured at the second edition of the annual Anambra man of the year award 2021 held in Awka State capital.

Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, and Alexander Chika Okafor of Chicason conglomerate were honoured as Anambra man of the year, respectively for their immense contributions to the State and its development.



Speaking at the event, the Chairman on the occasion, Major General Anthony Emeka Ajemba (Rtd) said he was moved by the calibre of people honoured.

He noted that the award would make most Anambra people to think home and invest in the State.

He also said that the award would encourage the young ones to work hard to be great like the awardees .

The Managing Director of Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority, Dr George Moghalu who delivered a keynote address said the event had afforded all the stakeholders an opportunity to articulate the best vision of the State’s future and consider what needed to be done to achieve the desired goals.

Moghalu said the State and its people were not where they ought to be due to failure in the system .

“We have allowed our State and our people to become caught up in the tyranny of low expectations that encourage us to set small goals and celebrate basic achievements. Worst of all, we have succumbed to the fallacy that the problems that bedevil us are beyond our collective capacity. This is where we are.

“Now, to the question of where we ought to be; you see, Anambra State is a promise unfulfilled. We are a people of boundless capacity, with a history of excellence in every area of human endeavour.
“Our biggest challenge has always been the opportunity challenge: the absence of the social infrastructure necessary for individuals to achieve their highest ambitions.

“The best vision of Anambra State’s future for me is that of a State where our children can dream big dreams and have the opportunity to achieve those dreams here at home and to the benefit of us all. And I believe that we can make this possible through the practice of principled politics.

“The kind of politics that emphasizes caring for the sick, the afflicted; housing the homeless and building ladders of opportunity that allows every citizen, regardless of the circumstance of birth, to achieve by the strength of their own endeavours the best aspirations of the human spirit, ”he said

He called for restoration of moral authority of government, modeling the best practices that allow people to believe that government could be a force for good in their lives.

“We cannot do any of these things for as long as we practice a myopic politics focused on pursuing short-term gains, personal enrichment, and the service of ambition for its own sake. Whereas politics ought to be a means to achieving progress and a more just society, in Anambra State, it has become the exclusive preserve of merchant politicians trading the common good for private profit.

“Most troublesome of all, is that a new generation of younger politicians are emerging who have known no other style of politics other than the belief that this desperate and depraved style of politics is the only way there is. A political belief rooted in the corruption of due process and the violation of the rights of people can never yield any good outcome, ”he said

Receiving his award, Ozigbo
thanked the organisers of the event for their commitment towards excellence and the promotion as well as celebrating Anambra people.

He said when he thought of enormous bundle of blessings that was in Anambra, he felt humbled and honoured to have been chosen by Anambra people in a public vote.

Highlighting the tragedy of the wide gap between Anambra’s potential and its achievements he said, he was saddened by the state of things in Anambra State.

He noted that the State was unable to boast of essential social services like good motorable roads, universal basic healthcare, or free quality education for the children.

“On the one hand, we are an Anambra, the ‘home of the most billionaires in Nigeria’, but on the other hand, we are also home to thousands of out-of-school children. We are Anambra, the land of a proud and prosperous people; we are also where a sad majority of our women cannot access the vital healthcare they need to stay alive when pregnant.

“We are Anambra, the home of the globally celebrated business tycoons, doctors, academics, professors, world champions. We are also a hotbed for criminal behaviour because we have a youth population stripped of their dreams, hopes, and belief in themselves because of the lack of opportunity.

“I sought public office because I was dissatisfied with the contrast between our limitless possibilities and our present state, the tragic paradox of the Anambra of our dreams and the present-day Anambra.

“As long as the tragedies of poor leadership remain, I will not give up on Anambra or my people. I will continue to do what is necessary to raise our people’s political consciousness, raise our people to a new mind, do what is necessary to correct the errors of the past, and open the doors to a brand new future of enormous possibilities, ” Ozigbo said.

Also speaking after receiving his award Executive Chairman of Chicason group,a conglomerates of sixteen companies , Chief Chika Okafor urged the young ones in the State to work hard to achieve success in their lives, noting that nothing good comes simple in life.

He noted that he is not chairman of about sixteen companies overnight but after a long period of putting in hard work.

He said that it took hard work and strategic planning to achieve success in life .

Presidency Gives Thumps Up To Maduka For Exploits In Medicine

The Presidency, on Tuesday, gave thumps up to Dr.Godwin Maduka for his exploits in the field of medicine, with specialization in pain management.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, commended the pain management specialist for his remarkable exploits in medicine.

Maduka is noted for setting up the gigantic Las Vegas Pain Institute in the United States with six medical centers and built the biggest 17 storey medical research facility in his hometown, Umuchukwu in Anambra State.

He is also notable Philanthropist whose Foundation has done remarkably well, in aiding and assisting the less privileged.

According to him, he reciprocated Mr. President's invitation to come home to invest and support good governance through the Head of Nigeria's Diaspora Commission, Hon.Abike Dabiri

Speaking on his guber bid, Maduka said the people of Anambra State are in search of one who can deliver dividends of democracy to them.

He noted that he will not allow party politics to limit his vision and mission for the people of the State.

Maduka is the Governorship candidate of the Accord party in the Anambra State governorship election.

The election holds on November 6, 2021.

Dr. Maduka had lately engaged in broad consultations with top Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion, to proffer ways to move the nation forward and Anambra State in particular.

Renown philanthropist, Dr. Maduka rescues girl with SARS stray bullet and amputation in hospital


Nigeria's top philanthropist and a leading contender in the upcoming Anambra State Governorship election, Dr. Godwin Maduka has again, showcased his milk of human kindness and uncommon philanthropic action, by saving the life of a girl hit by a stray bullet and whose leg was to be amputated.

Maduka moved by the plight of tbe young girl paid the hospital bill of N4 million naira.

Maduka's latest philantropic act shows his commitment to improve on the health sector in Anambra State when elected governor.

Maduka who is known for such magnanimous gestures donated the sum for the rescue of a patient who was hit by stray bullet, but held hostage at the hospital for about 2 years for inability to pay the bills.

He released the cash donation to offset her medical bills and other hospitalised patients who couldn't afford their bills of about N5million in the Hospital.

According to reports, the lucky patient and her mother, Chikanso Obeleno and Obeleno Obianuju respectively are both from Obe village Agulu and were held hostage at Chisom International Specialist Hospital located at No. 29 New Market Road Nkpor, Anambra State. Dr Maduka cleared the hospital bills alongside that of other patients at the Hospital.

Other beneficiaries of the benevolence and philanthropic gestures of Dr. Maduka at the hospital includes an accident victim, another patient who underwent a surgery and few others whose bills were stalled by lack of money and assistance.

"This magnanimous gesture by Dr. Maduka seemed divine by many and may have also consolidated the perspectives of Ndi Anambra on his ability to lead the state to greatness and betterment," says one of the witness at the hospital.

However, in the recent 10points Agenda released by Dr. Maduka under the Accord Party umbrella ahead of November 6th Governorship elections, he noted categorically that healthcare was a major concern of his administration, which he is currently embarking on. In a reaction from the innocent girl and her mother, they appreciated Dr. Maduka for putting a smile that cannot be forgotten on their faces.

Despite the 'abracadabra' that rocked the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, which produced two factional candidates, one of the aspirants, who participated in the primary, Dr. Godwin Maduka, has the opportunity to cruise to Government House, Awka.

This is however dependent on if he decides to choose another political party, as a platform to further his governorship ambition.

He simply lost the ticket to a cabal of political buccaneers, who resorted to undemocratic practice- the use of of Super delegates, to elect a candidate.

Analysts contend that despite losing the PDP governorship ticket in controversial circumstances, Maduka has enormous acceptability across the State, a major factor that could make him a fierce and major contender for the governorship of Anambra State, if he so decides.

Since he was robbed off the PDP guber primary, he has continued to be inundated by clarion call by men, women and youths of Anambra State, not to give up the race for Anambra governorship.

Fire outbreak: Gov Yahaya pledges commitment to safeguard lives, property

Gov Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has pledged his administration’s commitment to safeguard lives and property of citizens as an effort to combat fire outbreaks in the state.
Gov Yahaya made the pledge on Tuesday during the commissioning of one modern fire fighting truck in Gombe.

He said that he was ready to double efforts to assist the fire service at the Federal and state levels to ensure safety of lives and property.
“We can not avoid fire because some might come as human error so we shall double efforts to make sure people are protected.
“A lot of properties and lives are lost in fire disaster but when efforts are made just to provide good attention in case of those incidents, then we will help to safe finances,” he said.

He further assured the Federal Government that the newly deployed state of the art firefighting trucks would be adequately maintained.

“ We are making a lot of efforts to open up areas with little road access to aid firefighting.
“ We shall look for a good location for the fire service to operate from within the city centre.
“ We shall get allocation for you at the heart of the city centre,” he assured.
The Governor acknowledged that the state fire service was in need of more firefighters hence the need for recruitment of more men.
“ We are really in need of human resources and the service will be put into consideration,” he said.

Yahaya, however, stated that there would be more demands by the state government to the Federal Fire Service (FFS) to ensure that the state attends to fire incidents efficiently.
Earlier in his remarks, FFS Controller General, Dr Ibrahim Liman, urged the state government to ensure the allocation of two utility vehicles to the fire service.

According to him, the allocation would enable FFS officers complement state fire service in the area of fire risk assessment in public and private premises.

“ The other one will be converted to Rapid Intervention Vehicle with complementary equipment and gadgets for quick response in the event of emergencies,” he said.
Liman requested for “ Sponsorship of state fire service personnel in local and foreign trainings in view of emerging firefighting trends.
“Inclusion of the FFS in the State Security Council and strengthening of the state fire service through recruitment of capable hands.
“Welfare enhancement package for fire personnel to the paramilitary salary structure.”

Maduka: I Belong To The People's Faction, Not Factions Of PDP

A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Dr. Godwin Maduka, has declared that the people of Anambra State, remain his priority.

"I belong to the people, not to a faction of PDP. I belong to the people first" he told a mammoth gathering of PDP supporters who came on a solidarity visit at his campaign office in Awka.

Maduka however faulted the PDP govenorship primary, which he said, lacked the ingredients of a true and genuine democracy.

He said the people who came to show him solidarity gives him the zeal and passion to continue to aspire to run for governorship of the State.

He promised to change the narrative, when elected as governor, arguing that he had thought the PDP, would have provided a conducive platform to manifest his vision for the State.

Some party Chieftains who spoke at the event accused the PDP National Working Commitee, NWC for holding a kangaroo primary, where 3,000 delegates were disenfranchised, an act they said, is anti democratic and not a reflection of the choice of the grassroots in the party.

Two factions exist in the PDP in Anambra State.

A faction backed by the Court had elected Senator Ugochukwu Uba, as it's governorship candidate, while the NWC backed another faction which produced Valentine Ozigbo, as governorship candidate of the party as they both held parallel primaries on June 26.
