A snake which got its head stuck in an empty can while in search of water has been cut loose by a reptile rescuer.

Reptile rescuer Chris Daly has this month saved three snakes from cans.

His latest callout came Thursday from tourists Sue and Ian Kevan Abdullah who discovered a stricken snake in the carpark at Seven Mile Beach.

The pair had returned from the beach and were shocked to encounter the distressed copperhead with its head stuck in a drink can.

“It was stressing out and wriggling its way all around the car park,” Ms Abdullah said.

“I said straight away, ‘we need to help it’.”

Mr Daly told Ms Abdullah to cover the snake with something to calm it down and keep it cool until he arrived.


Ms Abdullah said her husband wasn’t a fan of snakes.

“He was horrified I’d put his jacket over the snake,” she said.
“When we covered the snake, it stopped moving so it gave it some rest, but [my husband] said his jacket will never be the same again.

“It was an amazing experience.”

A can-do rescue
Mr Daly said the snake was very distressed due to the heat and the loss of its senses.

“It can’t sense anything. All its sensory organs are on its tongue and that’s stuck in a can.
“Snakes don’t like direct sunlight, and with your head stuck in a can it’d be like a big heat source.”

Mr Daly cut the snake out with tin snips.

He kept the snake for observation because it cut itself on the can.
The dangers of littering
The images of the snake should remind people about the dangers of littering, Mr Daly said.

“These are the ones we find out about. How many die a slow, miserable death?”
He said energy drink cans were more problematic because the drinking hole was larger than those of other cans.

Snakes were attracted by empty cans because they were looking for water or pursuing prey that had sheltered inside, Mr Daly added.

WAR AGAINST CANCER, ISABELLA AYUK FOUNDATION TAKES LEAD WITH CECAPS PROGRAM IN CALABAR

Isabella Ayuk Foundation has commenced its Free Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention Program - CECAPS in Cross River State, to aid and assist those living with cancer related disease and also to improve the awareness on how cancer can be avoided.

The foundation, during the CECAPS program held at the Calabar Municipal Council on the 19th of January, 2019, provided a free public prevention educative outreach on cancer, screening and diagnosis of underserved women in the community.

According the founder of the humanitarian organisation, Her Majesty, Queen Isabella Ayuk, Winner of 2012 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, the CECAPS program aims at alleviating Cervical Cancer morbidity and mortality through early detection, public education and encouragements for girls and women, especially in areas of obtaining a regular screening and vaccination.

Isabella Ayuk Foundation kick-started the Free Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention Program in Cross-river and has received the approved partnership with Senator Godswill Akpabio to flagoff the CECAPS program in Akwa Ibom State.

Queen Isabella Ayuk, thanked the supportive capacity of Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, the MD/CEO Peace Ambassador Agency and Amb. Daniel Obah, the President of VARDIAFRICA, for their partnership and presence during the program. She finally expressed gratitude to everyone who participated at the program and those who had their hands imprinted as a sign for their support for Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention Program.

China Promises Huge Investment in Imo as Chinese Ambassador visits Imo UPP Candidate, Hon. Tony Nwulu


The UPP Imo state Governorship candidate, Hon. Tony Nwulu has received a delegation from China, to discuss the available investment prospects of Chinese investors in the state. He received the Chinese delegation in Abuja this morning

The visit was led by Zhao Yong, who represented the Ambassador of China to Nigeria. The discuss was focused on enhancing job opportunities, empowerment projects and infrastructural development in Imo state.

Zhao Yong confirmed that the interest of Chinese government in Imo state is subject to the potentials, policy documents and leadership strengths of the UPP Governorship candidate, Hon. Tony Nwulu.
