http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/telecoms/article5144780.ece

BT today revealed plans to cut 10,000 jobs by the end of the year after pre-tax profits slumped by 11 per cent in the first six months of the year.

Today's surprise cut by the former state-owned telecoms operator means almost 15,000 British jobs have been lost within the past three days, after Virgin Media, Yell and GlaxoSmithKline took the axe to staff.

Yesterday, it emerged that British unemployment hit an 11-year high of 1.82 million during the three months to September and is forecast to peak at 3.3 million by 2011.

Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, finally acknowledged this week that the UK was heading for a full-blown recession, and signalled further interest rate cuts on top of the 1.5 per cent reduction last Thursday.

Soon everybody in UK will have no job and will be receiving owobaba grin grin
But how will they fund owobaba when there are no more useful immigrants (not cleaners) that they can tax to death ? I wonder o ;system meltdown coming . The party is over , the last Nigerian there please don't forget to turn off the lights when you are leaving undecided undecided

Here is an account of a British journalist of the mood in UK yesterday in the place which matters most

I am enjoying this moment of joy and hope. But most of all I am enjoying the jostling of European politicians to be his new best friend.

I was very impressed by our own Prime Minister this morning who appeared on TV looking like he had slept rough on a belly full of whiskey. There couldn't have been a bigger contrast between the glamour, excitement and optimism of Obama's speech and the sight of our Gordon in a creased suit with that great gawping jaw hanging open. I almost expected him to cry "See you Jimmy!" and nut the cameraman.

I am also running a book today on how many times David Cameron can say the word "change". He is trying to equate himself with Obama on the grounds that they both represent "Change".

But there's good change and bad change. Example: A man trades his car in for a new BMW. Meanwhile his neighbour drives his car into a lamp-post. Both men have changed their car.

Change isn't always good. Just because our neighbours got an upgrade, doesn't mean we want a car crash.

As for scruffy Gordon, the only change he wants is 10p for a cup of tea.

UK is going down with Bush. That pathetic country is going to suffer the worst economic disaster that it has ever seen in 50 years within the next four years. It is the sinking TITANIC , if you have relatives there tell them to get their arses out before it's too late for them grin

A black president in the White House . Unbelievable and I am completely out of my head over this !! smiley
As things stand the only radical change that can happen to the UK is the change of power into the hands of BNP as their economy is crumbling around accusation of immigrant overpopulation. Can it ever happen that a black person let alone an immigrant can find his/her way into 10 Downing ? Not in a thousand years I think. Congratulations America !!

At least all those people that were evicted from UK or were refused visa now have a place to unleash their anger. There is no City in the world that does not have slums. New York, Berlin, Washington all have slums. Does that make them lower than naija in terms of development? No way! Slum has levels. Would you comapare the slums in London to those in Aba or Lagos? No way! At least the slums in London have regular power and water supply. The tramp in London can still go every weekend to collect free money (dole). Ask me what the naija govt does with all the oil money?

I wonder why people are getting so defensive about these postings. when nasty pictures of naija are posted in western media do they also tell u that they have nasty places in their country ? nobody is comparing dude , heck u can not even compare lagos to kano or enugu because the culture is different . just luk at d pictures and enjoy (or cry grin ) . if london appeals to u because of power supply which i confess is rather nice , (shame foreigners including british stole the money that we were going to use for our own power supply) just try not paying ur bill or recharging ur meter and u see how quickly they cut u off whether slum or castle . and if ur there because of dole goodluck to u . point is there thousands of naija in uk who are just existing . sooner or later the wise will realize that they need to do something with their live rather than just existing and planning to qualify for dole . the answer is not to return to naija there is truly nothing for u in naija (at least not for cleaners and shop security people) i know it could be a hopeless situation between devil and deep blue sea very sad. this article made me think at least - sometimes the thing wey we dey find go sokoto dey for sokoto truser pocket.

fortunately/ unfortunately i have also lived in uk before and i can say the opinions fall in line . the british are still the most unreliable people to make friends with or do any good thing with in the world . you should change your national anthem to "foreigners go home" because that is what it has always been grin

na naija pali i dey use o,between that has a better chance of happening if politicians stop taking billions of naira abroad, even with the credit crunch naija politicians are in uk buying houses cash down,i know of an house of reps member looking for a house not quite 3 weeks ago
so why are they allowing nigerian politicians to bring billions of naira to their banks without investigating where the money came from - money laundering law and all. problem with british people is that they are two faced insincere animals then they will now turn back and say nigerians are corrupt but they are happy to accept the stolen money. god will repay them accordingly .if a nigerian or any other person for that matter , can open an account in uk and deposit billions of pound/naira into these accounts unknown to the FSA, and unreported to the police for a swift investigation then who ever continues to accept these stolen funds in this country should be accountable too as an accomplice & a facilitator. buy houses wherever u can guy if ur money is clean it is good investment

i see wonderful end in sight , pound will fall to N1 them go drive mama charlie for buckingham palace make she go find job and british people will line up at niaija embassy in london to beg for visa . we will reject them with no chance for appeal . NO IMMIGRANT !! grin grin grin grin grin

He said, “In Abuja, we receive about 200 visa applications daily and in Lagos, 400 applications daily and annually, we receive about 182,000 visa applications, 62,000 applications from Abuja and 120,000 from Lagos, but only50 % of applicants get visa.”
At average of N25,000 per application British Government earn at least 182,000 x 25,000 = N4.6 billion (£20million) from Nigeria every year from visa applications - for doing nothing more than filling forms !!. shocked

This has really been one very interesting thread smiley I used to think that I was the only one who knew ADOPTED British people who do nothing but picture the UK as second to none, even HEAVEN smiley

On another hand, I came across a well written post a few days back on one other thread in this forum (though can't remember which). I believe it summarily explains why some people are like that, but they seem to forget every country has its good and bad. Here's the post:

"I'm ready to assist in whatever capacity to help combat fraud in Nigeria. But I'm afraid it can't be done. Why? The same reason why AIDS cannot be cured.
Fraud in Nigeria is now a syndrome. And the very instruments that are supposed to be defending it (The family institution, government, religiuos bodies etc) have been destroyed by the virus

My heart bled when I realised that majority of Nigerians don't seem to know the difference between wrong and right anymore.

Or how else can you describe a situation:

Where a father gives money to his child to go and 'block' his way through school and on graduation organise a big party for him/her.

or where a 'yahoo-yahoo pig' goes to the church to give thanksgiving for his newly bought car.

Where merit has been slaughtered on the alter of 'connection'.

Where agberos command more respect than the police.

Where the police people 'cannot live' without collecting N20 around street corners.

Where the few credible people can't contest for election and win.

Where human life is accorded no value.

Where people don't know their rights no more.

Where government has turned into confraternity in the name of Godfatherism.

Where people cannot do a single thing right except told and forced to do so.

Where the most powerful and influential youth leaders in the Niger Delta are all Millitants. These are the future leaders of
the region.
I'm a Niger Deltan, but when I look into the future I can't help but say 'woe betide Niger Delta!'

At times, I feel like the world should stop so I can alight. I'm the most patriotic Nigerian, but I will leave the country with the first opportunity that presents itself. Where to? Maybe Ghana, maybe Cotonou, maybe Uk, maybe Australia, maybe Dubai.
I'm not going in search of money. All I need is a re-assurance of sanity. I want to be re-assured I'm not the one who's insane. I want to be re-assured that it is the people I see and relate with that are insane.

Show me a sane Nigerian and I'll show you a thoroughly irritated man.

I don't believe in predestination, but maybe Nigeria has been destined to be like this.
In that case, I beg to withdraw back my pledge!

God help Nigeria. I love her so much.
But she's headed in the path of destruction."

Nevertheless, we must all join hands and fix our beloved aching Naija rather running to other places and painting them to be Paradise wink

Mind the gap .
