I have said this so many times on here. I will repeat it again. Do not come to America with the hope that things would sort itself out. At the minimum, have your tuition for 2 semesters (unless you have a scholarship) and not just come here hoping that one family member will house you or cater for you. That won't happen.

In agreement with BigFrancis, I have noticed that those who have relatives in the U.S are the ones always complaining. Why? Because they are expecting too much from their uncles or aunts and get disappointed when that doesn't happen. Many of us here came to America without knowing anybody. I slept in the hotel for several days when I newly came before I got an apartment of my own. I knew what I was coming to do in America and was well prepared and wasn't expecting help from anybody. As bitter as this might sound, having enough money is the way. You don't need anyone.

Also, some people come here and study some courses that are not in high demand. I am always an advocate of STEM, any day, any time. I got a job because I was a STEM major. Just yesterday, Kpolli announced here that he got a job too in the West Coast - most likely in the Silicon Valley or the Bay Area, because that is where things happen in the IT world. Although, there are some people who finished school and still haven't gotten their dream jobs, but they are still managing some where, any how because they went to school. Some even went further to pursue a PhD. A good Nigerian-American girl would even be ready to marry you if she knows you have an advanced degree. That would make your searching easier as well.

Overall, bring enough money when coming here and complete your studies. If you have no money, then be prepared for the worst and don't blame any uncle or aunty for that. Everyone is on their own in America.

That's too bad. They should dialogue with the affected students, profer a lasting solution to their unrestiveness instead of outrighly suspending the program. What of the previous fees they paid and the time they have already spent in the school? Will that be suddenly washed down the drain?

Please the school authority should have a rethink on their decision, unless their want to tell us they've suddenly become DREAM-KILLERS!

I intend to continue with my studies. no falling out of status again after much advice. i will keep fighting, it's not easy for any body. even the us citizens still fought for work study. 200 persons drag am with me. but God pass them.
i will continue this semester and see what the next holds by planning.

Make sure u give d best to ur studies, also consider transferring to PhD dat is fully funded. Try n study hard to qualify for scholarships, if need be apply for need-based ones. U can do it, its just d time to bring out d best in u because its in u. Don't keep quiet, ask questions n relate well. God will favor u n perfect ur plans.

Why did he choose dis odd time, of impending election, too late to laugh when d head is gone. However, if d insurgence indeed has no tribal undertone, I still do not see much change in perspective if d opposition party emerge as d mainstream govt, in terms of security. There would definitely be change in other aspects of governance, like corruption, high handedness, lack of purpose, sham projects etc. I'll like to be objective by advising d President to allow a free n fair election n not to coerce d citizens in any form in order to let d people's mandate count. Just my thoughts.

It is Ok bro, same applies to me here, I had to shift d exam to mid-year due to work pressure, n d applicatn to 2016. Just try n fix ur mistakes to improve ur scores. Which of quants or verbal section did u find more challenging in d exam? I dread d verbal section tho, especially d vocabulary n reading comp. I took d test back in 2010 in d old format. I hope I'll cover d mtrls b4 test date. Wish u best of luck as u refire.

Since u have time my advice would be to sit for it sooner (like within march and may) to give u a little wiggle room in case you want to retake the exam and possibly using Oct/November to focus on other important areas of your apps. By December 1 2015 all your apps should have been sealed and delivered if you are dead set on getting funding.

Thanks for d insight, I'll take a leave to write it around May/June. I hope d score reports would still be valid for d fall admission, incase there wouldn't be need for a re-sit. Trust u to acclimatize n prosper bro.

What's ur prospective Msc in? Mech Engineering? University of Maryland has highly ranked engineering programs but you shouldn't restrict yourself to one state/region, in case you get more favorable admission outcomes in other schools/states.

Got another post for y'all. And like I said in my previous posts, you're gonna have to get used to my sense of humor and brash delivery. Now that we have that out of the way, lets begin
Now that you have been granted visa and you know deep down in your soul that you cannot afford close to $15k and above per semester (by the way, unless you get a TA/GA, limited scholarships or some type of grant, international students do not get any type of financial aid!), youre probably wondering "How I wan take do am?". Got a couple of ideas, some of which I tried out myself. First of all, the honest truth, which a lot of folks don't tell you is that it is EXTREMELY HARD for international students to find jobs. For example, it's practically almost impossible to find any under the table jobs at places like target, walmart or any retail chain (unless the manager is your father!) because they all do E-Verify. International students don't get SSN (unless you get a job in school, and before you start thinking smart, your SSN is only valid for school employment. It will be written on your SS card). Having said all that, you still have a few options, if you're smart enough and like the saying goes "naija boys no dey carry last". IF you're able to save up some money (3k-5k), you can buy a car when you get here and get your drivers license asap. With your car, you can find pizza delivery jobs that'll pay you under the table. Its not much, sometimes as low as $5/hr, but the more hours you work the more money you make. you can be doing this, while you try to figure out how to get your papers straight and then you can find a better job. The thing is even if youre a doctor in naija or a lawyer or anything, and you enter here with anythin other than an immigrant visa stamped on your passport, you won't get a job (for health professions, its a little different, but that will come in another post).
Its good to have a plan before leaving naija. I can't emphasize that enough.

This is why I'm planning to wait till fall 2016 to apply, just to be sure of getting some funding. I'd also av to save till then while I keep working n studying for GRE n Toefl. I don't av any sponsor but I believe in God for d best. I av to wait longer tho. Thanks for d ideas shared, bro, keep it coming, I'm awaiting d gist for health profs.

I got mine (Baron, 2015 written on it with a CD) for N3k at Marina-Lagos, just at those kiosks where books are sold behind the famous bookshop.

Watchout for fake prints or photocopy/pirated copies. A friend once bought a fake current edition of kaplan's.

u can always print with laserjet that prints front n back n 2pages per page, just to reduce cost, that's what I did tho.
