seguno2: Do you know if the tax tribunal can send defaulters like Linda to PRISON? I hope so because that is a very effective, less noisy way to fight CORRUPTION successfully in a systematic manner. The tax laws are well behind times as they need to be reviewed as the penalties spelt out there are laughable. However, what the TAT (Tax Appeal Tribunal) does is to either uphold assessments, ask for the assessments to be amended or discharge assessments depending on the evidences before the tribunal seguno2: If I am staying in a flat with N800,000 rent, does it not make sense that I pay tax of N50,000 while the blogger who made enough profit to buy a N500 million mansion must pay N75 million? Do you understand? Here you are supposed to pay 10% of N800,000 as WHT to either FIRS or LIRS, then give N720,000 to your landlord. That is aside your PAYE So your tax worth is well above 50k |

seguno2: You have made yourself clearer. However do you think that the guys in FIRS are dumb and dunces? Would they not have checked the paper trail of her tax payments to Lagos IRS? Anyway, I hope that she is made to pay and the tax people move on to our other yeyebrities and the political office holders. They all should pay TAXES properly and appropriately, don't you agree? Definitely there should be collaborations between LIRS & FIRS and with fall in oil prices the chances of LINDA being let off is very small. Anyway, the tax tribunal is there to handle tax disputes should they arise. |

seguno2: She made profit from her legal entity business of blogging, not so? Since she bought the mansion with the profits of her blogging business, she must show that she paid taxes on it BEFORE spending the remaining amount, right? Is there any part of the explanation that you don't understand? Am not saying that she is not liable to pay tax. Am talking of the relevant body to deal with the issue as what we may be dealing with here are Withholding Taxes (WHT). FIRS deals with Limited Liabilities (Ltd.,Plc, Banks, Multinationals ) - Corporate Entities while LIRS handles individuals and that's where Linda falls into especially if she purchased the house from an individual which is most likely but if she purchased the house from a Corporate body, that's when FIRS can ask for the WHT. I hope I've made myself clearer. |

Acidosis: They should not forget to go after all the Yoruba and Arewa bloggers as well. I can name 20 popular ones for proper references.
They shouldn't forget to go after all the Lagos based celebrities including Wizkid, P-Square, etc.
Failure to do that would make FIRS look stup!d.
I'm not Igbo by the way, but I'm not f00lish. Until we learn to do things fairly and rightly in this part of the world, we'd always be the animals that we are.
Just recently in the US, fire fighters traced a Nigerian Oba. That's how credible agencies work, they don't work like animals and visionless remotely controlled wanderers.
The sensible ones should know the reason for these troubles. Just because Linda accepted PDP sponsored ads doesn't make her a criminal. She has done nothing differently from Olamide, Ice Prince and other celebrities who featured in the Ambode campaign songs. But HELL NO; Foolishness won't make us think. Let's check the authenticity of this so called fine. Linda is not a Legal entity and am sure she did not purchase the house from a Legal entity and so has no business with FIRS but with LIRS |
Politics › Re: Buhari To Ojukwu’s Mother In A 1984 Cartoon by glossy6(f): 10:41am On Jun 23, 2016 |
EternalTruths: Good response
The same hate for Igbos is what drives him against Kanu today
Imagine arresting Ojukwu who was never part of the government. Though this is an old thread but I have to say my mind here. What did Ojukwu do and why was Shagari not imprisoned? It is on record that Bubu hates Igbos that why he had to put Ekwueme (VP) in prison while his brother, Shagari (President ) was placed on house arrest ehissi: Again that is false!! Ojukwu was released unconditionally by the Ibrahim Babangida Administration - which upstaged Buhari in a coup - there was no intention by Buhari anywhere or anyday to release Ojukwu. This is one reason Babangida was a very hard man to dislike, as far as Nigerian politicians were concerned. Babangida gave unconditional release to all poltical detainees of the Buhari government, all without exception. He started on a fresh note as far as detention is concerned!
One thing you must bear in mind is that Ojukwu arrest nor release had nothing to do with Corruption - that will be very foolish to say!!
In present terms, let me give you an exact scenerio of what you are saying!!
It is like Buhari in this present time arresting Jimi agbaje for the Corruption going on in lagos state, simply because PDP, in the last administration is believed to be corrupt!!
Jimmy agbaje simply contested to be governor in Lagos and lost! He never held a position in Jonathan's cabinet or the party or any cabinet for that matter neither did he have involvement in Fashola's government. PDP was at the centre but in Lagos, which is supposed to be Jimi's stronghold is controlled solely by APC, so wetin concern Jimi!!??
So why arrest jimi, when fashola is there strutting like a G O D.
Ok, he said shagari was corrupt, where did shagari end up?? The main person who was corrupt was chilling out in a Hotel somewhere while Ojukwu was moved to kirikiri!!
Ojukwu's arrest was a power play, to keep him in Check!!
Explain the rationale??
Every person who was/is in a position to explain what happened to PTDF money under Buhari's care; with respect to heavy contract awards is dead.
The only real link, in this Dispensation of democracy, that can link Buhari's past to his present is Dasuki!!
As far as I am concerned, in this land Nigeria, Dasuki is the only security person in Nigeria's history who has been charged to explain how monies meant for security matters was spent!
For me, that is blackmail! There are colonels, Generals that had known links with Boko Haram in the military that have been caught, people who gave intel on field ops to Boko Haram, sponsored them with uniforms and weapons supply; how many has Buhari subjected to the kind of Open embarrassment in the media as Dasuki!!
Or their own too is not corruption that Buhari should be seen to fight ba??
And we say Buhari is fighting corruption!! Let us wait and see the end of the trial; you will understand better then! That is assuming you are not an APC fanatic!! I see only one thing here, hatred for the Igbos |
