seeker88: Congratulations! This is really a great news! So there's still hope for full funding for MS applicants like us
This is one of the schools I applied to, but yet to get their decision. Pleaae, when did you submit your application and how were u notified of the admission/funding decision?....I keep checking my profile online and no update Thanks. I submitted around ending of December last year and I got notified of both via my email. I hardly even check my profile online cos it's always giving me trouble to access it. |

Hi Everyone, It's been long since I've been here, I just want to quickly share my testimony.
I came to know about this thread through my mom last year when I was getting ready for the GRE, I didn't really talk much here but this thread was very helpful. I got a lot of materials from here and even more, I got people who really helped me from here, especially @happyday. I didn't do so well on my GRE (308) though I did very well on the TOEFL, so I was very discouraged but people encouraged me that it was still possible to get funding so I decided to work hard on my application (I applied to only one school) . I contacted happyday to help me on my applications and he did every single step of the way, tirelessly reading through and correcting my essays, and giving me advice about how to email professors and other things. After finally submitting the application, I was granted admission but no funding. However, they informed me that there is a professor who is interested in funding me but he is waiting on some grants. At this point, I started thinking of applying to other schools but I couldn't really afford to. Finally, after much waiting, they contacted me that I have been granted full funding plus a monthly salary. I just want to appreciate those that created this thread and kept it running, especially Sirridy and happyday. I also want to apologize for not being regular here.
Thank you very much.
PS: The school is University of Arkansas and my course is Agricultural Economics (MS). |

drhopeful: So I rewrote the GRE today and I believe I was in the same centre as @seeker88. Long story short, I found it as tough as my first experience - especially those God-forsaken Verbal sections. This time I made sure to read my issue essay prompt over and over again so I don't make the same mistake twice. At least now, if I don't score at least 4, it will be confirmed that I am a confirmed mumu writer .
Anyway, I found the test so tough and confusing that I developed a bad headache after my first verbal section - so much so that I felt like getting up and just walking away. But when I remembered how I have been sleeping at 2am everyday for the last few months just to study after getting back from work and sorting out family needs, and the state of Nigeria's (or rather Buhari's) economy plus my precious $410 in registering for the exam twice, I picked myself up and forged on.
This time I got QVQVQ. When I got my second verbal and saw shorter (but still incomprehensible) passages, I said to myself ... 'It's over. DrHopeful you are a confirmed GRE mumu. You just wasted all your time, effort and money for nothing.' From that point, I just got on with it and the remaining Q. What finally killed me was when I noticed this final Q section was way easier than the first 2.
Anyway, I casually reported my scores and I was utterly stunned at what I saw. For like 3 mins I was just staring at the frigging screen.... 157V, 164Q. I just could not believe it. Apparently the final Q section was the experimental section cos it was too easy to earn me my score. For the benefit of newcomers, I scored 150V, 162Q in my first test 2 months ago.
I shall report on the outcome of AW when it's out. For now, I am UTTERLY RELIEVED!!!!!! I will sleep at 9pm today for the first time in months! Good luck to those yet to write. Time for me to start prep for TOEFL.
@seeker88, come and share your good news jare! Congratulations! I'm happy for you |

Cephas0009: You have a very good profile and considering that you have decided to apply for phd, I think your chances of funding are high. However, you might want to consider applying early and please do ur background check well on ur choice schools especially as regarding the english proficiency requirements (since you've chosen not to write any proficiency test). As regarding the sop, u can send drop ur email or send me a pm so I can forward a document sirRiddy gave me one time like that as a guide. I also believe getting someone to review your sop wouldn't be much of a big deal as there are many gurus in d house. Congratulations on ur great score and all d best in ur endeavors... cheers Could you please send me the guide too? glory.okpiaifo@gmail.com. Thanks |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Glowrie22: 7:14pm On Aug 10, 2016 |
kaima2015: My two cents.....to make high scores on the GRE (to ace it)....start with the Magoosh videos, watch all 280 plus videos to ""learn"" the tricks in the GRE...then move to the Nova Math Bible (if you dont have this you can use Manhattan) or Princeton and then use the Barron for the Verbal Section.....for the Analytical Section I also recommend an ebook authored by Mark Alan Stewart ""Answers to the Real Essay Questions of the GRE"".....the whole essays...it is a current book...and GRE will select an essay question from Essay Pool on their website......you can save time with this on test day....if you read the book from cover to cover
Good Luck Thanks. How can I get the magoosh videos? |
