Messibliss207: bless you on this one. The state I'm going to is -1 today and I'm already having palpitations. I don't like cold at all. I haven't seen where to get good winter clothes here in Lagos. At least the one I'll wear to the states before I can settle and shop for real winter clothes. This scares me ee You can get winter clothes in Lagos. Go to Idumota. There are guys there that specialise in good winter jackets, for any country. My friend bought from there before coming here and she is still using it here. |

Congratulations! Welcome to Arkansas lydia19: Hello everyone, I have been a silent follower for over 2 months. My visa was approved this morning at Lagos Embassy. Many thanks to Damilare5882 for taking his time to help edit my mock transcript and Twoods and also everyone who has contributed to this thread.
VO: Good morning ME: Good morning sir VO: So tell me why you are going to the US? ME: I am going to the US to study and acquire my masters degree in Public health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. VO: Why masters degree? ME: The first degree is not competitive enough and the masters degree will give me the knowledge and skills that I need to work with the Federal Ministry of Health, and other public health non governmental organizations in order to reduce disease burden in Nigeria. VO: What is your first degree? ME: Microbiology VO: Tell me what you learnt in school about microbiology? ME: Microbiology is the study of micro-organisms. Microbiology has different branches such as environmental microbiology, Food microbiology, Industrial microbiology and Medical microbiology. VO: Tell me about Environmental Microbiology ME: Environmental Microbiology is the study of micro- organisms in the environment. Some micro-organisms can be harmful while some can be useful. For example, some micro-organisms can be used to degrade wastes in the enivornment. Although we have some wastes called recalcitrant wastes that do not degrade such as Plastics and Iron. VO: How many schools did you apply to? ME: 3 VO: Name them ME: University of North Texas Health science center, West virginia University and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences VO: How many admitted you? ME: The three VO: Why are you not going to University of North Texas Health Science Center? ME: I prefer UAMS because it has a school of Public health that is accredited by the Council on Education for Public health in the US. I will get to work with Professor Brooke Montgomery on her research aimed at examining HIV and STIs disparities in the vulnerable populations and also developing behavioural interventions for sexual risks. Also, they have a curriculum for masters in public health where you get community experience which enables you to apply what you learn in class to the real life. VO: How did you hear abt UAMS? ME: I did an extensive research on schools that offer public health in the US using professional sites such as association of schools for programs of public health and sophas.org and I narrowed down my search to UAMS because their curriculum aligns with my career goals. VO: Did you write GRE or GMAT ME: GRE VO: Are you married? ME: NO VO: Do you have any children? ME: NO VO: Who is your sponsor? ME: My mother waited for some minutes VO: OK, I will be approving your visa now. ME: Thank you sir VO: You will get an email.....bla....bla.... |

Late travel Transcript.. (sorry)
I flew to Kansas City with Turkish Airlines, journey was really long with two layovers at Istanbul and Chicago. I didn't have any issues with customs at MMIA. Someone mentioned there that I should go to the agricultural desk because I have foodstuff but I confirmed from the Turkish airlines staff that I don't need to do anything like that, so I didn't.
We left MMIA 8.45pm Nigerian time (9th August) and arrived Istanbul 5.20am Turkish time (10th August). Food was plentiful, I guess it was good too, cos others seemed to enjoy it, but I couldn't eat most of it (Thank God for my galas and other snacks I held). The entertainment on board was really good too, with all the recent movies. The layover was still 2pm and airline provided us with breakfast during the wait.
We left Turkey at 2pm and landed Chicago at 5.35pm US time ,this part was just too long (11 hours) and so I couldn't wait for it to end. The food was better during this part though.
POE was smooth, the only question I was asked is who is going to pay for my schooling, to which I replied that I have an assistantship that will cover all my fees. My bags weren't searched at all. Even the galas I thought would be thrashed sailed through.
The last leg of the trip was from Chicago to Kansas City, and we finally left around 11.30pm after the flight was delayed twice. We landed at Kansas City around 1am. I finished up the journey with a greyhound bus.
Thanks. |

Visa approved today. I've been a silent reader on this forum, and I'm grateful for all the help I got from here. My interview was slated for 6.30am, I got there around 5:10 in the heavy rain. Around 6 the check-ins began and I was the second person on the queue. I was almost sent back outside because I didn't have a hard copy passport with me, but fortunately for me, the passport I uploaded on my DS-160 was clear enough. I was also asked for the last page of my I 20 which I left at home, thinking it wasn't important, fortunately for me again, it wasn't really needed. The first guy to be interviewed was approved and I was the next. Here goes: VO: Good morning Me: Good morning sir
VO: Tell me why you chose the University of Arkansas Me: I chose the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville because I will be working with Prof ×××× as a research assistant in his (Vo nodding, cuts in)
VO: Tell me about this program, Agricultural Economics Me: Okay. The program will run for a duration of 24 months during which I will be required to take a minimum of 31 credit unit hours of courses. Some of these courses are Agricultural Micro-Economics, Agribusiness Finance and Econometrics. (VO typing all through this)
VO: (after typing for a bit) Your visa is approved, collect it at this location Me: Thank you sir.
I prayed for a very short interview and I got it. The whole thing lasted for like 2 minutes or even less. I want to say thanks to all those that have been keeping this thread alive, it helped me a lot. Special thanks to @happyday, thanks for taking out time to help me.
For those preparing to go, all I can say is prepare well, be confident, pray, and don't forget any of your documents at home like me lol.
Thank you very much. |
