Lautech is a good school - there is a guy i know of that graduated in 2004 from there with first class honors and is currently a PhD student in Canada. He obtained his Msc from this same school in Canada and is doing extremely well. I wouldn't say Lautech is the best school in Nigeria, but it is a good school. One way to measure the quality of a school is by its products and this doctoral student in Canada attests to the quality of lautech. And Please, lets not get caught up with the past glories of the first generation universities. It's only a matter of time before the private and state universities get better rankings than the 1st generation universities. I hate to sound persimistic, but the truth must be told. |

What pains me the most is that the money is there to provide the amenities & infrastructure. Oil prices have risen throughout Obj's term. Our benchmark is based on $22 per barel and a barrel of oil goes for $59 per barrel the last time I checked. We have about $41 billion in reserves and an average nigerian can't boast of 7 hours of electricity a day. Is that pitiful or what ? |
Every time you hear of billions of naira. Obasanjo's government awards contracts to build/maintain roads all over the country, but the money always stays at the central bank. They will not release the money to the contractors on time, even though the money (in the billions of dollars) is sitting there in the vault. The contractors are always abandoning their work because the government is not paying them, even though the money is readily available. At the end of the year, you hear they have achieved 50% capital vote disbursement. Why can't they do better than that? When they wanted to host the All Africa games in 2003, we didn't have any problem building the $200 million stadium in Abuja. Julius Berger was paid on time, because we like showing off to the world. If we can build the Abuja stadium on time, why can't the roads and refineries be maintained on time ? All this transparency/ due process, what is the point of it if funds are not released to the contractors so they can complete their work on schedule ? It makes me sick to my stomach, this our naija. |
