My Yoruba people says: "Ti ina o ba tan lara, eje ki i tan ni ekanna. No Full Body Scan can stop terrorism. The only thing that fuels terrorism is inequality. The world order must change. Those who have prevent others from having. Who manufactures the weapon of terrorism are now the victims of terrorism. Let those who manufacture weapons that can destroy live stop production, then killing will stop. When a country in the third world country engages in political and social squabbles and the best the developed countries could do is to escalate it by selling or donating arms to interested parties in the conflict. Terrorism has started. What is the pride of USA in boasting of having a weapon of mass destruction. When another country seeks to acquire such they develop phobia for death. They threatened you with all manners of sanctions. It shows how coward they are. Who made them GOD over all other nations. Terrorism is a war started by Americans, now that they have inflicted the whole world with it, they are jittery that it would consume them. Americans trains and equips all manners of agents of death, Al-qaeda, Talibans, Militants, Seccessionists, Rebellions, Mercenaries and their ilk, the Assassins. If Americans are now afraid that the terrorism they spent billions of dollars promoting in other regions of the world is coming to meet them on American soil, then they should rethink and redirect their military technology and strategies into something that will safeguide life and not destroy it. The Chinese spent 300 years building their great wall against external invasion but when it was defiled it came through internal invasion. Their enemies just simply compromised the gate keepers to keep the gate open for them to enter. The effect the great wall failed to stop the invaders from killing them enmasse. Americans are deluding themselves by creating a "Watch List" or a "NO Fly List" against some countries and groups and individuals. Nigeria and Nigerians is just added. I will be alive to watch the list grow to a number that will make America see every other country as haven of terrorism and terrorists. Then America will know that it has become a dung gatherer. A dung gatherer does nothing but gathers dung on its head. I dont and will never support terrorism but to label one a terrorist while America engages in the worst terrorist acts against other nations is the most laughable thing in the world. USA is going the way of ROME. I use to think they have a lot of knowledge in that enclave. |
Kanu, oh Dear Nwakwo. I know you want to play but power and strength no dey again. Well, am not blaming Kanu for wanting to play till June 2010, the problem is about our planlessness. When we dont have any succession planning in our football, then we are condemned to see Kanu in the eyes of year 2000. Tell me who has replaced the following players in the Super Eagles without being unnecessary sentimental. Who amongst the present crop of players have the skill, passion and commitment of the following players: Peter Rufai, aka Dodo Mayana Stephen Keshi Austin Eguavon Chidi Nwanu Uche Okechukwu Benedict Iroha Friday Elaho Sunday Oliseh Austin Okocha Finidi George Emmanuel Amuneke Samson Siasia Daniel Amokachi Rashidi Yekini Kanu Nwakwo Victor Ikpeba I want you people to tell me our present playing pattern and tactics. Is it right to replace Okocha with Mikel Obi, Is Osaze effective and efficient at the wing, is he replacing Finidi George. Is it Sanni Kaita or Dickson Etuhu or Seyi Olofijana that replaces Sunday Oliseh. Is Yobo player enough to step in the booth of Stephen Keshi or Chidi Nwanu. Can you say Taye Taiwo is our new Ben Iroha. Who does the job of Amokachi or Siasia in our present Eagles. One can go on and on. If you are sentimentally detached enough you would realise why out eagles can not fly with the present composition. I am not saying the players are totally bad, but some radical changes to pattern and position of play would create a deadly Eagles. In all the matches that we have played in the last two years, how many times have direct thorough passes have gone to our attackers to finish off. How many good crosses have come from the wing to the box for our attackers to deal with. Have you ever wondered why your attackers have to go to the defence line or deep into the midfield to retrieve balls. When these happens who is at the other end to receive passes to get a goal. Have you ever wondered why Yakubu Ayegbeni would look ordinary when he plays for the national team. Why cant Obinna Nsofor become our left winger and put Osaze in the position Siasia or Amokachi used to play. Why not keep Mikel to his traditional Chelsea role instead of making the young man look like a fool in the Okocha role. Why not look for a replacement for Yobo who is fast becoming our own version of Rigobet Song. What is a player like Shittu doing in our defence, the guy is too heavy and unfit to do any positional marking if playing against skillful and fast attackers like Messi, Christiano or Torres, or even Eto'o. We are in dream land with this present crop of Eagles. The technical crew is a big joke, the medical personnel is totally ill-equipped to determine an unfit player or he is heavily compromised. Tell me why go to a tournament with unfit players while keeping the fit and younger ones at home. We need to go the way of Ghana. In the next two years, those younger players that faced Drogba will begin to rule Africa and do well in the World Football. Where would Nigeria be then. Football wise, we are just plain unserious comedians. |

Heavens help those that help themselves. GOD will not do what Man ought to do by and for himself. If all these information are correct and reliable I have no pity for him and have no prayer for his soul. How can I pity one who has no self pity. How can I pray for one who value no prayer. Yar Adua made his choice and is facing or has faced the consequence. Good riddance to bad rubbish. |
My take: 1. yeswecan you are not a bigot but you are definitely myopic and lack deep understanding. 2. Anyone who runs his own business will definitely understand what is happening in the banks concerning cost structure. 3. Many dream of owning his own business but I can begin to see that some people on NL will not do well owning a business if cant not appreciative the reality that compels banks to decide laying off workers though painful is the best to sustain their business. 4. Business decisions are not for the half witted or the sentimental but for those who have the minds to do what ever it takes to keep business in business. 5. Is the bank the only sector or industry where workers layoff have been resorted to in order to stave off business collapse. It happens regularly in the real sector (i.e. the manufacturing industry, better go check facts and figures from MAN). 6. Small businesses (i.e. the SMES), over the years have been going through crises of this nature with some outrightly collapsing and sending their workers into the labour market. 7. Why do you think the warehouses of the glorious productive past have gradually and continuously become praise assemblies for churches. the other time, a factory closing down in Akilo area of Ogba, requested Latter rain Assembly of Pastor Tunde Bakare to acquire or purchase their warehouse. 8. Do you want to witness a situation when bank halls would end up as praise assemblies just like our cinema halls of the beautiful past like Pen Cinema in Agege and Casino Cinema in Adekunle, Yaba or Paramount Cinema in Ijebu-Ode. 9. is so special about banks sacking workers that would make heaven to fall. If workers from other sectors whose jobs were cut off found a way around the job loss and survive, the ex bank workers should wake up to their painful reality and survive. Some people should learn to be reflective and proactive in life, that is the essence of SWOT Analysis. Always apply this to your official and private life. |
what do you expect when we cut and paste your constitution from certain sections of USA constitutions. We are nothing but appendages of the US, unfortunately we are a very bad rotten appendage that US will not hesitate to cut off. We need US to survive and not US needing us. What can we do on our own but corruption and mis-governance. We can not even think of writing our own constitution and am sure the so called anti-terrorism bill must definitely be another cut and paste exercise. Who will lead our team for this so called negotiation with US and who will give mandate to the team in the absence of our dying (or dead) President. Who in US would take such team serious as to welcome them to a negotiation table. This is what happens when we use our heads to walk and think with our legs. FOR INFORMATION ANDOOAKA IS NOT IGBO BUT FROM FROM THE MIDDLE BELT. |
MAN, TGTSSAN blame FG over mass sack Adunola Fasuyi, Lagos - Nigeria Tribune 30.12.2009 Consequent to the high rate of mass sack in the textile industry, the Textile, Garment and Tailoring Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (TGTSSAN) and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have blamed the Federal Government for the sad development, urging it, however, to take urgent steps to save the industry from total collapse. The TGTSSAN’s National President, Yakubu Jekeri, reviewing the closure of over 900 textile industries in the country and the thousands of jobs lost in the process in the last 10 years, demanded that the Federal Government should wake up to the challenges and rescue the industry from total extinction. He revealed the major cities with the highest unemployment rates resulting from the decay in the textile industry in the last 10 years to include Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, Kano, Enugu and Ibadan. According to him, “We demand the swift intervention of the Federal Government on the revival fund of textile industry that has thrown thousands of Nigerians into the labour market in the last 10 years. It is sad that the challenges that led to the collapse of the textile companies over the years, which our association thought could be revived by the Federal Government intervention fund are still declining.” He noted that the inconsistency in government policies, lack of protection of home industry due to globalisation and liberalisation policies, high interest rates, power crisis and the high cost of fuel, which had led to a sharp rise in the cost of production, are responsible for the problems in the industry. I copied and pasted the above so that some people will stop pitying the ex-bankers and that some people will appreciate the problem we have generally in Nigeria. People like Onwan should be more understanding and supportive. Onwan you can be affected too. |
I have read and digested the comments on this thread carefully, sometimes going through them second or third time to comprehend the contents and assess the personality behind each commentaries. I only came out with one conclusion, we treat issues with a lot of emotional push. This emotional verge separates us into being called apathetic or sympathetic. The issue on ground is operating at pedestal that convolutes apathy with sympathy resulting in reality. Look at it this way, no one under normal circumstances would wish evil of another. no employer would under normal circumstances lay off employees. Circumstances make people to do what on normal situations, they would not have readily done. People do a lot of things, legally in this respect to survive including seeking employment. Those who are fortunate to start businesses whether early or later in life are not necessarily sharper, smarter or better endowed but circumstantially enabled. Besides it follows natural laws to be leaders and followers, poor and rich, masters and servants, employers and employees. Misfortune can under any circumstance affect any person, group, business or nation. When misfortunes comes, natural laws expects us to look after each other and not necessary castigate. Misfortune could be accidental (controlled and uncontrolled) or man-made, and according to Murphy's Law, it comes when least expected. Those affected by the misfortune of the banks into losing their jobs are just unfortunate to be caught in the web just as businesses can be unfortunate to be caught in other webs that lead to collapse or death. What I do not subscribe to is for some people to over pity them instead of giving a supporting hand or for someone to be boasting about his non vulnerability to misfortune ( a joke). I want NAIRALANDERS to begin to suggest how those affected by the job losses can survive the setback and move forward with their lives. Counselling and pieces of advice on enterpreneural ventures, job opportunities, financial sponsorship of viable business ideas is what I want us to give to these people. Enough of PITYING and BOASTING. GIVE HELPING HAND IN FORM OF IDEAS ON BUSINESSES AND OTHER SURVIVAL TIPS. |
Given the situations the banks were prior to Sanusi's appointment and the varied criticisms that trailed his decisions and actions including condemnation. I want all who thinks Sanusi did a wrong thing to begin to tell us what they would have done to salvage the situations if they were in Sanusi's shoes. Let us know if you really understand the problem and its concomitant complications and how astute you are at proffering workable solution that will prevent the death of these financial institutions rather than mouthing "OBJECTION" ENOUGH OF PROTESTATIONS AND CURSES, PROFFER YOUR SOLUTION NOW!!! |
Sometimes am left deflated with the comments of people concerning the situations in our banks. Many would rather have Sanusi Lamido tied to a stake and shot. Many rather would see Soludo as the hero or the failure of the whole saga. Many complained about the handling of the situation or the agenda being pursued. Considering my recent posts on these issues, it pains me to realise that some people are just too sentimental to be reasonable, too myopic to be knowledgeable. During Soludo era, he initiated the consolidation programme, at that time that was what was needed to grow the industry. He consolidated the Banks and the insurance sector followed. They were all correct policies, but like all changes many people resisted. Like many uncertainties that accompany change, many jobs were lost, many of the banks and insurance companies were closed. Many people called for Soludo's head at at that time. The problem is that most people condemning Sanusi's policy are those who never bother to gain knowledge about consolidation and after effects. Soludo did a good job of consolidation but like I have mentioned in my other posts, we could not and did not manage the success well. We lived, I mean our banks transacted business in the most reckless manner. Funds came in from all fronts, there was huge huge fund to deploy to grow the economy. What did we witness, the real sector of the economy, the productive manufacturing sector was denied fund rather banks engaged in round tripping, speculative trading, margin loans and other sundry investments that did not really impart directly and positively on the national economy. At this time, the real sector was declining while our banks were declaring humongous profit. You wonder where they got the profit from. The managers of the new found wealth decided to be brazen in their tastes and pursued bank business in a crass manner, opening branches with such depravity that you wonder if bank branches are not meant to be revenue centres. All these went on as the banks' authorities began to cook up their books. The regulator under the leadership of Soludo started looking the other ways when rules were been broken. That is the crime of Soludo. He lost his midas touch and all banks became banana republics. If you take pains to study consolidation and after effects, one of the knowledge you gain is that a bad managed consolidation would definitely bring about disastrous consequences. It all started under Soludo, the problems and all the intrigues of board crises, the abuses surrounding mergers and acquisition, the maltreatment/segregation of workers in newly consolidated banks that emerged through merger and acquisition. These are all signs of bad management of consolidation processes. The insider abuses is the worst because it is driven by pure lust and ego. Soludo became at this point a non professional and a cohort because he wanted to assuage his own lust to boost his ego. SOLUDO LOST IT ALL. The banks were beginning to show the distress signs when fund flow cease as a result of global meltdown, Soludo said it would not affect Nigeria, if you are not an educated fool like Soludo, you would have known that it is just a matter of time. How can we be immuned when our banks were busing fighting themselves for credit finances from international financial institutions, when 98% of our national revenue comes from crude oil export. The funds dried out and most of the banks started running to EXPANDED DISCOUNT WINDOW to remain in business. Soludo deliberately opened the window to discreetly support his guilty friends on a short term. Soludo at this point became a failure. The window never solved the problem because at the root of the problem was greed, lust and ego. When consolidation is badly managed and a crisis point is reached, our dear misguided Soludo knows very well that solution lies in management take over, rightsizing and downsizing. Not doing these means only one thing, untimely painful corporate death. Sanusi came in and took the best decision in the circumstances, prevent the corporate death of these banks by sacking the reckless unprofessional managers (i.e. management take over). What you are witnessing is the last leg of consolidation and its after effects, rightsizing and downsizing. Shouting at the roof tops would not stop it. All the banks, truth must be told have been mismanaged, we have to give kudos to Sanusi for having the courage to take the painful drastic decisions. Sanusi may have been part of the rot but he divorced himself from that rotten past by taking that bold uncommon resolve to chart a new management path for all the banks in Nigeria, the very same action your lily livered, self serving, greedy and misguided Soludo ran from. My advice to NAIRALANDERS and other Nigerians is to acquire knowledge and seek to add to their knowledge so that we can talk less sentimentally, myopically and stupidly. For those who lost their lives, they should go and redouble their efforts to survive the harsh realities of life. They were too deep in their comfort zones now is the time for them to play some chess game of life. For those who are expecting the top echelons to be sacked whilst sparing the lower cadres, just know now that corporate life is not like that. In a game of chess the pawns suffers for the Bishops, the Knights, the Rooks, the Queen and ultimately the King. Whilst you can sacrifice the Queen in a game of chess, you do everything to protect the King. The pawn can and may become the Queen but not the King and in business the Shareholders are the KINGS whose interest and investment must be protected at all cost. Every other things are sacrifice-able. |
Pathetically most posts on this thread are uninformed. It portrays the daftness and dullness of most Nigerians when it comes to finance management and corporate governance. No wonder, the so called executives were those that failed woefully in the practical challenge of managing a corporate entity. No wonder, Nigeria is yet to have a corporate behemoth like Toyota, Hyundai, Saipem, Shell, Emirates Airlines, Sony, Samsung, Procter and Gamble, Tata, Huawei, Ericsson, etc. The one that was formed by Obasanjo to give Nigeria the corporate lever in the comity of multinationals, is already on its knees. You all know the story of TRANSCORP. We can not manage success, no wonder we can not run our refineries, we can not operate our Steel Mills at Ajaokuta, less wonder our PHCN is promoter of darkness. No wonder Concord is dead, African Ocean Line is no more, National Bank went into oblivion, Ibru Fisheries is in the graves, Okada Airline belong to history. No wonder we heard the story of Bunmi Oni of Cadbury, no wonder almost all multinational corporations in Nigeria replaced all Nigerian MDs with expartriates. When you read comments like those posted you puke at the generic nature of our failures. I wonder if any one posting would allow his/her business to collapse because he want to do father christmas with business by carrying overheads that are not sustainable. Business is simple:
[li]Income>Expenditure = Profit Income<Expenditure = Loss Income=Expenditire = Break Even Income = Sales = Revenue Expenditure = Overheads + Operation Costs Overheads = Personnel Costs + Management Costs Operation Costs = Resource (material/equipment) utilisation costs [/li] [li][/li]
I want you to proffer solution to a situation of LOSS in your business or family finances. If you are faced with a situation of Excessive Expenditure, what measures would you take to keep your business afloat or keep your family finances tidy. There is no room for sentiments or any BIGOTRY reasoning. Until we take sentiments away and do business plainly and absolutely proper, then we will solve all our problems in all the sectors of the economy. |
For those who never want to understand and appreciate the reality on ground in the Nigerian Banking Sector, and they wish to cry more than the bereaved being sentimental has nothing to do with business and corporate governance (which is the most lacking in Nigerian Business Environment). May be some lights need to be shed on Business Policy and Ethics, the non adherence being the root cause of what is beginning to unfold now. The disengagement wind is just picking and by the time it recedes, all the banks would have a feel of it. ETHICS is the code of conduct or system of moral principles by which we lead our lives and carry out our business activities. In light of proliferation of well-publicized, unethical behavior in the workplace and in the marketplace as well, business schools have slowly responded to the need to provide ethical guidance and education for students and executives. It is ironic and tragic that those who need to be educated in ethics the most are typically those who would claim that they don't need it at all, (i.e. the EXECUTIVES). All of you shouting that harakiri has been committed might do well to ponder that ethical business behaviour is ultimately cost effective. Consider, if you will, the legal expenses and monetary damages that can arise from unethical behaviour, no to mention, as in our case with banks now, lowered employee morale, loss of jobs and ultimately loss of customers. In business, ethics deals with rights and oligations and the perception of these is both subjective and qualitative. In contrast, analysis of business investment in terms of of their potential risks and rewards can be viewed rather more objectively and quantitatively. Having reconsolidated our banks have fallen short of ethical standards in their dealings. A reform has put in places ethical business management responsible for redirecting the growth and development of the banks. And to whom is the ethical manager responsible? Truly, the manager must serve numerous stakeholders, viz in no particular order: Customers Suppliers Competitors Special Interest Groups Communal Entities Government Shareholders Employees and Unions So what does the manager do when the interests of these stakeholders are at variance with with one another (as is often the case)? May be to some of you crying sever Sanusi head, closing up the bank will do rather than weighing options against the ability to cut cost to maximise returns for stakeholders. There is no way our banks would not cut cost to remain afloat in view of reckless unethical manner they behaved post consolidation. If a bank has 100 branches and realises it can only sustain 60, will you want the bank to continue to carry the excess 40 and allow to be a drag on the fortune of the bank. If they realise they have a bloated workforce, is your suggestion that they should continue to operate on that unrequired manpower and bear the overheads that stifle their financial strength. My people, this is business and we are paying for not following the rules. For the bank workers, they remain too long in their comfort zones. Probably because they are not knowledgeable enough about corporate restructuring and re-engineering. Otherwise, these sacks shouldn't have come as a surprise to them. Now they know better. In scenarios like this people must lose jobs, consolidation never guarantees job, business expansion never guarantees job, no business reform will ever guarantee job. So put it in your thick skull, there is no job guarantee anywhere but job redefinition. It is a fact as daylight. |
truth be told, most of these people are no musicians, cant play musical instruments, rely on keyboard, have no bands, mime to their own music at their own shows. songs are not inspirational, very odious. How many of these albums get any attention now. watch any local TV stations or listen to local FMs even Nigezie on HiTv and you will understand they are all dead songs. Nobody listens to them much longer, they are now part of history. Which party plays such music again. They have all been pushed into oblivion by new non-inspirational and odious albums. An album can only be regarded as best of the decades when it is consistently being listened to and video shown regularly through out the years in the decade. None of them qualify. No wonder one of the music awards organised gave Obiwon the song of the decade award. Obiwon himself has not even spend five years on the Nigerian music scene. For me the Sunny Nneji's album containing the track "Oruka" and Martins' "Olo mi" has been proving worthy of being regarded as Albums of the decade. No weekend pass by in Nigeria without people listening and dancing to those two albums. |
Cost from zero to infinity, depends on so many intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Marriage is the greatest risk you can enter into. Wedding is the most sentimental ceremony you can celebrate. My reservation is the often senseless manners people go about celebrating weddings, particularly in Nigeria. In as much as I do not disagree with how anyone wish or want to or plan to spend on his/her wedding, my concern is that most people go aborrowing or exhaust their life savings just to please their stupid ego. The reason is that they want to impress but no, they are wrong good impression is not in the wedding but in the marriage. The poorest celebrated weddings survive marital challenges whilst the best celebrated weddings pack up at the slightest touch of marital challenge. In Nigeria today, wedding has been bastardised that we dont even know what wedding is all about. Typically, a couple engages in three to four level wedding ceremony: Introduction Engagement Court Wedding Church Wedding or Nikhai Traditionally, wedding is all about introduction and engagement. These two rites are combined as one ceremony and couples are blessed and sanctify to start a family. Colonial rule introduced court wedding as an alternative and in those days those who felt some reservations for traditional mode opted for court weddings. Christianity and Islam brought their own wedding rites and injunctions and the respective practitioner of the two faiths celebrated what is called white wedding amongst Christians or Nikhai amongst muslim faithfuls. But over time these wedding options have become a sine qua non to tying the nuptial knots. That is my worry and it leaves distaste in my mouth. How on earth can anyone explain celebrating wedding going through four different types of stages. A friend of mine just wedded and spent about six months concluding the his wedding ceremony. He invited me to the traditional slated for March in Kogi State and told me it was not compulsory since I resided outside the country and said he preferred I attended the main one which is a court wedding in Ikoyi Registry slated for April. I attended the beautiful ceremony and played my part and forgot about it. In June he told me he was having another ceremony, this time a church wedding slated for July. I was shocked and asked him why he was celebrating four different weddings to one particular woman. His answer was that his in-laws want it that way. If you can afford to spend billions on a wedding, please go ahead but decide which type you want and do not go about celebrating four weddings to a single person. In UK and US, wedding ceremony no matter how expensive is done their usual way - white wedding and reception where they entertained invited guests. Family introductions are without pomp and pageantry associated with our own in Nigeria. The problem is as Africans, we want to wed the African's way, as elites, we want to wed the European's way, we also want to wed as per our faith. We end up running out of the way budget and unduly stressing our finances beyond limit. By the time we finish the ceremony, we were in financial distress and labour without end to provide for the marriage. Ludicrously most people cant really afford these things, they will even borrow cars to transport the bride and the groom in. What is the essence of riding in an Escalade during your wedding and end up moving around in your rickety Toyota Carina after the wedding. Some don't even have personal cars. So your wedding the way you like but don't end up hating and fighting each other for creating wrong impression of life after marriage for overdoing things. |
My Yoruba people says and I translate, A bastard points to his family house with left hand. Also, A child can not run from home attack and be immuned to external attack. This isms carefully describe the misfortune of the so called Nigerian "British" No matter what and no matter how long you sojourn and integrate to a new society, you are still a stranger, visitor, foreigner, sojourner. You will always be reminded. Certain privileges will be denied you. You will treated with certain reservations. Citizenship to a foreigner is a privilege not a right, it can be withdrawn. So any of you who lives under the illusion of "CITIZENSHIP" better beware. Help tell everybody to always plan for days like this. Hearken to Sound Sultan music. Don't forget home. No one can be used and dumped if the person is not a willing tool. He was not forced or cajoled. He had choices, he opted fro the best in his circumstances, he enjoyed the glory and fame. He committed an offence, he was treated as s foreigner because he is indeed a "PRIVILEGED FOREIGNER". Now they want to remove the privilege. If he had not abandon home, he could have been easier to live with the deportation. I hope he is not deported because that would mean being another "FOREIGNER" in his home land. Many Nigerians are like that, enjoy too much of Western World Bliss that they forgot, who they really are: BLOODY FOREIGNER. You could do so many good deeds for your adopted country but my advice always remember that the chicken would always come home to roost. A natural would not be deported because his citizenship is of right not granted. Even those that are born in UK or US or where ever, the reference is always - THE NIGERIAN BORN BRITISH, A BRITISH OF NIGERIAN PARENTAGE. When you live in foreign land, citizenship or not, remember you don't assume privilege to being right. |

If it is true it is a painful one but lets stop awhile and objectively look at the whole issue as a single unit. Businesses are established for profit making and business management are not founded on sentiments. Banks are warehouses for secured funds and money kept in banks are in trusts. The day business begin not to make profit and management are tending towards sentimental, the end of that business is in sight. Lets look at a bank the size of Intercontinental suddenly declared dead and lets begin to imagine the collateral damage consequent on this: Entire workforce lose their job without notice or payoff --- think of the multiplier effect of that Suppliers and contractors to the bank would not collect payment for jobs already done --- think of the multiplier effect of that Investors and shareholders in the bank lose all their investment --- think of the multiplier effect of that Depositors savings and contributors lose their money --- think of the multiplier effect of that Families and organisations (public and private) would not meet their needs and obligations Bank debtors would smile and offer secret thanksgiving for getting away with all our money Many students would not continue their education or suffer setback one way or the other Many companies would fold up and lay off workers Many deaths would be recorded through frustration and suicide Government would lose tax income and have budget deficit YOU will hace to support many families, friends, colleagues and associates who are distressed by the bank collapse YOU will attend funerals and do commiserations and condolences to the bereaved. One can go on and on painting pictures of what would happen when any bank fold up. Let me remind you of National Bank, AIB, ACB, Savannah Bank, and others that collapsed even before Soludo's consolidation. We were in the country then and we witnessed first hand the catastrophic losses in human and material at that time. The loss can be safely compared to war losses except it is non-violent, not immediate and non blood-letting. I tell you the effect is the same, it causes disorder in socio-economic life of any country. I tell you the damage is better imagined than experienced. If pushing about 3000 into the labour market would prevent the abominable scenario, I think it is a more bearable pain. For those of you asking for the head of Sanusi, I will ask to pray that you lose your life savings, or work six months without salary, or be retrenched forcefully without any entitlements, or your business collapse. The decision to rentrench might be wicked, I want to believe it is in th best interest of the bank and all of us. Tell me you will not be affected if Intercontinental Bank collapse and you find your cousin crying to you that all is life saving is lost to it or his business is collapsing because all his business fund is lost to it. Think and think again. I agree criminals like Erastus Akingbola needs to be given the Madoff's treatment but the bastard ran with his tail in his anus before even the distress was announced and has decided to live the life of a fugitive. Nemesis would one day catch up with him. Meanwhile the damaged bank must be repaired. When your car has accident, to repair it many parts would have to go and be replaced with new ones, even if they are tokunbo for it to be back on the road. In this case, the parts are the workers. Any person sound in quality management practises would know and expect this lay off. Downsizing and rightsizing would definitely replaced a consolidation ( mergers and acquisition) that is badly managed as we experienced in our banks' cases. Your Havard Professors must have pointed this out to you. How do you explain the rationale behind opening branches that end up becoming cost centres. If such branches were to be folded up where do you think the workers in those branches would go --- their various homes of course. That is the stark reality of sound business decisions not mixed with sentiments and unsustainable factors. Cry as much as you would want, the reality is that this is the just the beginning. The bank workers are not in any way endangered, the industry is only entering a new phase in its development. WELCOME TO THE ERA OF DOWNSIZING AND RIGHTSIZING. Dont shriek, for those who go to Economics School, they it is sometimes a necessary evil in CORPORATE REORGANISATION AND RESTRUCTURING. Have you not heard of it before. So , Everything is in transition, including our lives, so be prepared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Una dey here dey argue about Nigeria chance for world cup wen una no even know wetin dey happen for football house or at the sport commission. Patrick Ikeji just talk say Amodu fit no go world cup depending on his performance at the nations cup. So una no know say may water go still pass under the bridge before we can begin talk of wetin go happen to the team. We know even sure who go be our coach not to talk of the team list. under this scenario, how una go begin yarn about doing well or not. but gong by the present situation, truth be told, we no fit do well. tell me one player that we fit rely on to games around for us. what tactical input amodu fit make if things no go right in a given match situation. do we have a bench from which such input could come from. we no get midfield player that distribute and set up strikers through killer passes. we no get strong backline that we not end up doing ball watching. we no get a reliable striker that can finish off game with half chances. upon am, most of our players are nursing one injury or another. not to belabour this issue, make una check out the 30 man list wey amodu plan to go to unations cup with, una either go laugh or cry. me i don talk my own, i fit be wrong but i be one dey realistic. if we do well even for nation cup na upset we go create, for world cup our falt footed players we loose it to the fast koreans in the absence of a midfield that can possess the ball. against argentina our backline built around yobo can not hold, messi, tevez, higuan, aguero, milito, attackline. who dey ready to combat mascherano for our team. if we score two against argentina be sure we go chop six. na only greece dey weak for that group but their compactness can ruin us. they used successfully in the play off against gus hiddink russia. Enjoy the nations cup and world cup but dont expect victory for the eagles. |
The problem is that you people that live abroad cause problems for yourself. You created false impression about your self, standard of living and economic status. You made people back home feel you are much better off and enjoy life more abundant where you are located in the diaspora. Even those who goes abroad for schooling create so much false image about their welfare. So much that many back home believe that living abroad is akin to experiencing financial eldorado. Now the chicken is coming home to roost. Many of us know that Nigeria is a country where anything goes, if you want to go home with 500 pounds or 1 million pounds depends on the false impression you want to continue to register in the mind of your people. Mind you, many back in Nigeria are living far better in terms of finances than most in the diaspora. They know the situations most cope with in the diaspora and how difficult it is to survive economically abroad. Yet some stupid diasporans would want to go and show off that he just arrived. You dont need to announce yourself in a manner that you can not cope with. My friend, if you want to be honest with yourself, your budget of 200k naira is more than enough for the period you intend spending. You can even do well with lesser amount. The issue is simple, be honest with yourself. do not create the impression that you have access to the Bank of England, do not behave in manners that will bring uneccessary demand to you. Stay within the confines of your immediate family who knows your status. Dont go around annoucing your presence as if it is the best thing to happen in Nigeria. You can not impress anybody in Nigeria, even if you go with 10million pounds. At the end of the day, people will mock you for not meeting certain expectations. Remember most people in Nigeria are not that poor, particularly those that would mill around you. If you want to be in all the best places in Nigeria for the holiday, then be prepared to meet the requirement for that. Nigeria is both expensive and very cheap, depends on what you do, where you go, the market you patronise, the people you drag around, the girls you run after, the drinks you take, the food you consume, the place youn stay, the calls you make, the noise you make, the parties you attend and above all the impression you want to create. Advice, just go home to see your family and siblings, by family I mean the nucleaus, have a decently exciting time and return back to England to continue the struggle. You would enjoy it, how long you have stayed away from home is irrelevant. To my country people in the diaspora, many of you runs from visiting home because of this impression of how much I need to be able to stay comfortable, ask your self the question, if you are actually going back to your family to see and be with them and not to go and show off, you dont need a little bit more than what you averagely spend where you are resided now exluding flight cost, gift cost amd may be accomodation if there is no relative to squat with. The gift cost should even be moderate. Some of the items you take home are even cheaper in Nigeria. GOD BLESS US ALL. ENDEAVOUR TO ALWAYS VISIT HOME ON A MODERATE BUDGET YOU CAN MOST CONVENIENTLY AFFORD!!!!! |
Bakare is not saying anything new. The foundation of christianity is fraught with lies, heresies, denials, presumptions, assumptions, omissions, commissions, occultisms and cultural inflitrations into the original doctrine of EMANNUEL. Even the name "JESUS CHRIST" is more of commission than truth. The basis of all these wrongs lies squarely in human colourations and interpretations of the message of GOD as professed by EMANNUEL. The genesis of disunity in christendom is rearing its ugly head again and would continue to be so till eternity. No two versions of the BIBLE is exactly the same, No christian worship in any church other than his denomination. The Catholic Church started the heresy which led to the founding of Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Jesuit, Jehova Witness, Assembly of God, and many other denominations over time. The same denials amd presumptions gloated with human desire for authority led to the formation of the Pentecostal Churches or is it now Penterascals. The introduction of occultism, cultural and traditional African practices led to the formation of the so called white garment churches (Celestial, Cherubum & Seraphim) and the CAC. In other countries of the world a lot of other strange indoctrinations has led to the formation of Brotherhoods that claims to be abiding by the teachings of the Bible. If people can just apply a fraction of their GOD given intelligence, they will see through all these lies. But these "MEN OF GOD" are always quick to condemn and chastise you for attempting to apply this GOD given intelligence and wisdom to keep people in perpetual religion bondage. It happens in Islam too. Hero worshipping is the greatest blaspheme in todays christainity and is equal to Idolatry they the ancient people practised. I would not understand why a catholic would not want to worship in Anglican or Christ Embassy would not worship in TREM. A member of RCCG would not just attend church service at Deeper Life. I wonder why some one living in Lekki-Ajah axis would travel to Idiroko before he could worship in a church simply because he is a member of Oyedepo's church. I have never seen a celestial person attend a church service at a CAC. When you look at christendom with an unbiased mind whay you see is confusion, personal aggrandisement and brainwashing activities. Satan is having his big laugh and he is succeeding in sowing his seed of discord amongst the so called "MEN OF GOD" and making them so confused and lost. The test he gave to the divine man Jesus, that Jesus floored him on is what the present day "MEN OF GOD" are failing in because of the love of material things. They want to own the world, eat the best food, drive the best car, marry the most beautiful women, wear the best clothes, own many businesses, have the hugest account, build the best and the largest church auditorium and university. Fly in private jets, wine and dine with the world political and business leaders, convive with Kings and Emperors, attract the largest members, have the largest branches and be at the centre of all religious activities. I only pity those GOD gave brains to and refuse to think, eyes to and fail to see, ears to and refuse to hear and intelligence to and fail to apply it. Laziness and complacency make people to refuse to learn, develop and grow their capacity and capability to ascertain and not to be deceived or hoodwink. They are looking to GOD to provide what he has already enabled them to get themselves. If men are made in the image of GOD, I dont think any man need another man to see that Image of GOD in him. There could be spiritual guidance and teachings but any such that prevents you from using your brain and applying your wisdom is heresy. The same "MAN OF GOD who condemn your intelligence and prevents you from applying your wisdom is himself using his intelligence and wisdom to hold you to his wiles and caprices in the name of JESUS. Wake up and be wise. |
Federal Government has been recently alluding to the fact that certain cabals or cartels exist in Nigeria that undermine its policies and actvities when defending need for deregulation in the oil sector and problems being faced in the fight against corruption. David Mark, Senate President made a call to security agents in the country to put a check on the activities of cabals in the country. But the public felt otherwise, many claimed that there is no such thing as cabal or cartel in Nigeria so long the government can not identify them or expose them by mentioning their names. Comparison are made with what obtains in Colombia, with the drug cartels whose various leaders and camps are publicly identified and named or in Italy where the heads of the various mafia groups are idetifiable and publicly known. In the absence of any known name or identity, do you really think there is a cabal or cartel in Nigeria. At least, when militancy started in the Niger Delta, identities and names of their leaders are known. Why cant same be done with these so called cabals or cartels? |
Funny show that dispaly funny dispositions. What is dance and how do you know a good dancer. What is salsa or baleria in Nigeria parties. Funny people who has nothing to offer. Pasuma was a good dancer to his brand of music the way Usher is to his. Why dont you bring JLopez to come dance Sakara, or Juju, or Highlife or Awilo and see if she will still remain a good dancer. When you stupidly bring people to come and dance in foreign steps you would end up seeing funny dances. Celebrity Takes2 is an unserious show meant to entertain in a hilarious manner and can never correctly judge how good a dancer is. In real life most of these people are good dancers if allowed to choose the music to dance to. For one I am a good dancer to most Nigerian traditional music and beats but when you begin to bring in your salsa and such foreign stuffs I rest my limbs. Shakira is a lovely dancer as far as her music is concerned but ask het to dance to Sunny Ade music am sure you would laugh yourself hoarse. |
which kind pple full for dis nairaland self. person die una dey talk as una no go die! In actual fact the report is still unconfirmed. Even if it is true, there is nothing to celebrate in that, she has lived her life and survived by her children. May her soul rest in perfect peace. We may have some reservation for Babangida because of his style of leadership or what he did and did not do when in political power. He however and his family remains human being created by the Almighty GOD to live and die at the appointed time. Everyone will DIE. So keep your grudges aside and pray for the soul of the departed one (that is, if it is true!!!). You people should use this opportunity to reflect on life and your activities. We are all in transition and everything in life is temporary. If you like do good or bad, you shall soon transit like those before you. Though how one live determine what people speak upon his or her death, Maryam has no fault except being the wife of a military ruler whom many see as as not doing things right when in power. God bless her soul. Just confirmed she is actaully dead, one of her relative just confirmed. GOD GIVETH GOD TAKETH, IBB TAKE HEART, though I may not like your style or some of the things you did while in power, but death is a leveller!!!!!!!! |
Every society get what it derserves. If you want more from these media you need to contribute to their report. All the international news media you favoured get information and reports from ordinary people who are not in any way connected with journalism as a profession. How many Nigerians locally and in the diaspora contribute to their pool. It is true many of these newspapers do write junks and lies and assumptions as truths, and you may feel that you dont get what you are expecting, the reality is nobody is speaking or releasing infomation in Nigeria. Those who manages to do so either seeks for gratification, speaks half-truths or non thruths. Those in government have even signed to oaths of secrecy. So my people for the little you get, you should be grateful to get at all. Most thruths only comes out when there is crises in the polity or amongst the ruling elites. This is the only country where government is always planning, formulating, intending, proposing, thinking, strategising, preparing, seeking, trying, managing, talking, losing, hoping, parleying, discussing, wanting, wishing, articulating, gathering; but never act, do or achieve. So what we get is garbage in garbage out and we must eat the garbage. The truth is you need to read the papers to know about all these "ings". |
Many have forgotten that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, besides every culture view beauty differently. You can carry a particular mentality or mindset to judge beauty. Dressing up and fashion has become confusing to appropriate it to a partular sense. What I have found in many views, comments and opinions of people on Nairaland is that most contribute from myopic realm and never show deeper understanding of issues. Many just want to triavilised these issues and joke about them. WHEN it comes to the issue of women: BEAUTY AND FASHION, you can not generalise. A white man view or a blackman who has spent most or all of his adult life in un-African environment believes that a fat woman is not beautiful. In Africa, the beleive is that a woman must display contours, be richly endowed on the chest and the backside to be beautiful. In some societies in Africa, up till the present moment, a young lady is usually taken to a fattening room to enhance her beauty. THE REALITY IN ANY PART OF AFRICA IS THAT A WOMAN MUST BE ROBUST AND NOT FAT TO LAY CLAIM TO BEAUTY. ANY OTHER PERCEPTIONIS A BRAINWASHING PERCEPTION GAINED FROM DEEPER INTERACTION WITH NON BLACKS OR NON AFRICAN. The most beautiful black women anywhere in the world are usually robust, that is the way nature endowed us. If you are looking for something different, go to ASIA. No one in his right senses would acclaim a Chinese or Thai woman is ugly because she is not endowed with big breast or arse. If you want to see an ugly Indian lady, make her add some meat and if you want to see an ugly African or Nigerian lady, make her lose her bombom or flatten her breast. So stop exposing your ignorance on the thread wether you are in the diaspora or living in Nigeria. Many white guys living in Nigeria dates and marry the robust Nigerian women more than the skinny ones. The truism is that the environment and culture determines what a woman beauty is really is.
