They can only refuse to answer but they won't and there are a couple of reasons for this. First is the obvious reason. If the summoner is offering some kind of help and not just a business proposal meant to benefit both parties, then it makes sense for the summoner to call them together and save resources and in this case, the African leaders wouldn't be in any position to protest that.

But we know they also get summoned even for mutually beneficial business proposals. When it comes to business, it is not really about the size of the country or the amount of respect the summoner has for the continent. It's more about the economic worth of the entire exercise. If the summoner wants to engage in some business worth billions of dollars, calling on the US or Germany alone might be sufficient. However, to get that amount from Africa, a few Africa countries must come to together as an entity. For such a summoner, it makes business sense to call them together. That's exactly how it works at the international level as well. Microsoft used to have Microsoft South Africa, Microsoft Egypt, Microsoft Microsoft WECA (West, East and Central Africa), etc. And this was how they used to summon the regional managers for updates. About 5 years ago, they recognized Microsoft Nigeria because thier investments in the country became big enough to dedicate resources to them and treat them as an entity.

It's purely business and when you get rid of emotions, you'd agree that Congo alone might not worth the engagement. Sad but true.

Lugard knew that the regions will not survive it but did it for administrative convenience to feed the whiteman's greed. The same is happening today. The north and the west brought practically nothing of economic value to the country so they want the status quo to continue as the country milks the SE and SS . How isn't it a demerit?

There are at least 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia, each with their own set of customs and distinctive cultural objects, but there's peace and harmony among them and they are making progress.

How is it degrading? The whiteman made African countries and Africans are proud of the whiteman's creation. So why won't Africans be the controlled by the whiteman. What you should start with is that Africans should reject the Berlin Conference by going back to the drawing board for self determination. As an Igbo man, I have no business being in the same country with a Yoruba man. With an Ibibio or an Efik perhaps makes more sense than a Yoruba who I have no cultural affinity with, talk less of a Fulani whose intention is to kill my people. If you're happy being a Nigerian. If you're proud of being made by Europeans, you should be proud for all countries the whiteman created at the Berlin Conference to be manipulated, summoned and collectively controlled by the whiteman. Until you have the sense to reject the destiny imposed on you as an African, be ready to continue with the status quo.

but Africa isn't the only continent that was colonized by the whites, and Nigeria isn't the only multi- ethnic and religious country in the world.

How come we continue to ascribe Nigeria's underdevelopment to the amalgamation.

Is it truly the problem of forceful union or lack of good leaders, because we have corrupt leaders, criminals, ritualists, kidnappers etc in all the tribes in Nigeria, no exception.

What makes you think that Igbo will be better off as a country, what about the vices, crime and criminality we continue to witness everyday in southeast, will that stop too?

I'm writing this after seeing Indian prime minister Narendra Modi in Finland, Finland is a very small country with a population of 5,5 million people, and yet he went there in person.

But Modi will rather summon the entire continent leaders for the so-called India-africa summit.

France, Russia, US, China, UK and turkey have all at one time or the other summoned African leaders for talks as well, I mean this is degrading and it shows how little these people view us.
