holluwai: dont be so quick to conclude. For me I believe Tiwa has got more vocals than your friend(Yemi)
Seyi shey is the one that only comes close vocally. kay29000: Exactly! Seyi Shay is the real contender for the throne. THIS IS AFRICA... Vocals doesn't mean anything... 2face no get voice and his still one of the most popular Nigerian musicians.. Asa's voice is unique and I'm sure she is more popular than tiwa.. |

wristbangle: To dethrone tiwa sawage will be a difficult for yemi alade, if that's her aim now. Tiwa has the experienced of music career from the overseas and locals unlike yemi which is basically local. Though she is talented. tiwa's overseas experience doesn't mean anything in Africa... Yemi Alade's music appeals to Africans cos its tune is African... Same way phyno's music appeals to igbos... Olamide, wizkid music to yorubas.. |

In any case, where ever they are available in Nigeria, branding is not there yet. thats my poínt That's your opinion... The fruit sellers close to where I stay in the SW sell 97% of their fruits before they close for the day... And the next day their fruit stand is filled with more fruits... |

gsalvatore: ''those are the uneducated farmers...''
This uneducated cultivate the largest quantity of produce...
''There are farms in other parts of Nigeria that are hygienic''
These farm are hygienic but don't have large yields.
''Northern leaders don't educate, enlighten and empower their people''
I think their Leaders try...Just that most of them are unfit for illumination..
You see the irony? That's your opinion.. the uneducated farmers do not cultivate the largest quantity.... You need to go and research more before saying trash about Nigerian farmers... There are more farmers in the SS, SE, SW than in the north... don't be fooled.. |

gsalvatore: Nigerian Farmers don't know anything about Standards .
they use Carbide for ripening the banana. Use Formalin for Kpomo processing. Use detergents to soften Oranges. use formalin to preserve chicken and turkeys meat.
Have you even tasted Papaya from an aboki...the bull tastes like shit.
this is what is killing Nigerians...
Our farmers dont use modern practices ....very funny asking and aboki to use these practices...you stand a better chance of getting a fowl to lay a boiled egg
And you seriously want the international community to patronize you? those are the uneducated farmers... Northern Nigeria has the illiteracy level in the world... who's is talking about me please change that "you" to Nigeria or Nigerians Northern leaders don't educate, enlighten and empower their people... There are farms in other parts of Nigeria that are hygienic... |

cecegorz: Chill bro. I am not even talking about food preservation here, so forget your cancer-related issues. Do you know that with top notch logistics in place, you can harvest fresh fruits in Nigeria today, and have them in London grocery shops, first thing in the morning tomorrow. Let's face the real deal, Large scale Agric business is beyond market women operations, you don't expect Shoprite manager to carry basket and enter Ekiti or Oyo village looking for bananas to buy. Somebody has to get these things from the local producers, package and label them as necessary, then transport them in a refrigerated truck straight to the shops within specified hours, and be willing to do that consistently! These things takes proper capacity, not by subsistence farming. Personally, Apart from kiwis, pomegranates, apples and plums which we don't grow locally, I will never buy bananas or water melon in a shop when I have them in abundance from local producers on the streets. What is "top notch logistics" or are you trying too hard to sound educated Only chemicals and other scientific crap can make fruits grow quickly and those fruits don't have the same nutrients as those that grow naturally.. Food preservation has nothing to do with cancer so what lies are you saying in a bid to sound knowledgeable.. If you don't know anything just keep quiet rather than trying to be an I TOO KNOW person... |

cecegorz: For all the zombies shouting that Buhari has been doing well without having cabinet ministers, and so it does not matter. This is where it matters that you have a minister in charge of finance, trade and Investments because this sort of situation requires a strong fiscal policy that will shift this trade in favour of our local farmers.
That aside, I remember that in one of the sessions at Ogun state economic forum last year, Agro-products financing, packaging and export was discussed with a former president of Mexico, Vincent Fox, former PDP chairman, Audu Ogbe, Ndidi Nwuneli, and the Songhai farms CEO were the panelists. One of the key things I learned there is that most of our Agro-products doesn't meet the International standard due to issues bordering on proper storage, packaging, and timely delivery. If Akinwumi's work didn't take cognizance of these critical issues, he may have just succeeded as Agric minister by just proliferating subsistence farmers that has no capacity to compete in the international business.
Shoprite is a for-profit business and as such will go to any length and breadth of the world to source for products that will help them maximize profit unless you have a way to restrict them International standard my foot... Has the locally made foods and fruits ever poisoned Nigerians... Instead its the "genetically created" fruits with harmful metals and chemicals Nigeria imports... Haven't you noticed that cancer is increasing in Nigeria.. |

KLand: Branding is the key here. Look at the product stickers on the items. can we find such here yet? Apart from local market women/men do we have companies dealing on plantains and watermelons? This is a gap to be filled.
Recently i was in Gombe state and Bauchi too. I saw loads of water melons displayed on road sides for sale. The products are there in large quantities. Why can't we have supply chains that can make these available to outlets like shoprite and the like?
Having said that, i emplore Shoprite to to try to establish programmes/partnerships that will make these locally produced goods available to them. Importation does not help our economy So you haven't seen water melons in SW,SS and SE markets They don't have supply chains in the north because most of them lack education and are not enlightened.. |

bigben431: Blah blah blah, everyone complaining. An opportunity exists when a problem arises. The question is what can be done to mitigate or curb this. From my little experience exporting agricultural products, the most money is made in post harvest., logistics, storage and marketing.
I was shocked to see this myself at the ikeja store when last I was in naija, I managed to talk to one of the purchasing guys at an event a few days later (mainly by coincidence) and he said the problem was shoprite did not have time to go seek out suppliers in naija they expect nigerian suppliers to send in proposals. He also said that when they gave contracts to nigerian firms to supply - after a few supplies they became inconsistent, not meeting up demand etc. He said they rather source from Ghana and S. Africa where they are sure of consistent supply. Most of these applies to fruits and vegetables.
So maybe some folks here can form a co-op approach shoprite, source bulk from up north and supply them. If you can figure out the storage and preservation aspect..you don strike gold. Start with a few stores and as you increase capacity expand, before you know am you will become a brand name.
My two cents. SS and SW Nigeria is where most of Nigeria's farmers are... But there are some farmers in the north. |

They barely see beyond their noses and so utterly predictable.
I asked this question before and ask again: Before 2015, were Buhari's utterances and his so called body language Nationalistic or tribalistic? That's why the country needs to disintegrate peacefully... Cos without the South's oil most northerners will be in harder poverty. |

My father's story isn't a strange one, it's almost same as every igbos who migrate to foreign lands to survive. Nothing goes for free in this country, for every penny you will be exploited even by those who harboured you.
I think everybody needs to start respecting each other, be it the guest or the host. Cheers! Every migrant looks for opportunities in foreign lands very few of them are good people.. And yes you're over hyping yourself which is the mentality of most igbos... |

Topman0001: i won't agree with ur opinion, here in ondo state, my former gateman from the east had a quarel with his wife and a python came visiting. He killed the python and ate, beleiving nothing would happen bcuz he's not in his native land. The wife refused to eat from the forbidden meat. In short time an undiagonizable sickness started and the gateman was taken to his village where he passed away. So i won't believe its superstition. Someone put the snake there... One time we were outside the school gates, along the road one was lying down and then one of the guys carried it with his bare hand into the school and the snake did nothing. I dont know what he did with the snake though. Go and read about pythons... Pythons don't harm humans unless they are provoked... There must be plenty of pythons in that school. Cos who has time to differentiate between snakes |
