My God has done it again oo! Very long post alert!!!

Thanks to all members of this prestigious platform, couldn't have done it better without you guys! @Frankrobbn1 thank you! @jnyuwa thanks for picking all my calls, you were of great help! @mcobex thank you!

Now my timeline guys;

Application submitted: May 29th
Biometrics done and completed: May 30th
I did an upfront medical ooo! Yet medical request gotten on June 29th.
That was where the tension began. My friend had the same issue, she sent an email to London office and got medical passed the next day. I sent mine, nothing happened! I had to send to accra, nairobi, turkey, dubai, lagos, even filled the webform...finally, on July 5th, medical exam passed! Till today, none of these offices has replied my email, I guess the right office just updated the info on my account.

Then today, July 9th: VISA APPROVED!!!
Docs submitted:
-All required IMM forms.
-Almost 2pages sop.
-letter of sponsorship (dad's letter was strong, he said he was keeping the promise he made to me cos I told him during my undergraduate studies o, dat if i made a first class, I would have my masters abroad).
-6month dad's SOA with 8M closing balance.
-reference letter from bank.
-1st academic year tuition fee receipt ($10,300cad).
-dad transferred 2.8M to my acct for living expenses, hence my SOA.
-dad's landed properties (I guess this was my home tie, said I will inherit one of the properties for the future establishment of *** in nigeria, as my long term goal upon return to my home country. Dad also said same in his letter, including that they are expecting my return upon completion of studies).
-dad's CAC docs for his business, i even uploaded a screenshot of the public search of the business name on CAC website, just incase.
-my nysc discharge cert. (April 2018)
-My waec cert
- parents and siblings birth certificate and mine.
- my CV
-transcript
- academic exellence cert showing graduation awards.
- ref letter saying i am a volunteer with ***
- my employment letter showing i am also volunteering with ***
- all my certificates of attendance to public health related conferences and programs (i just guessed this could let them know that i have been involved in the healthcare system in Nigeria).
- police clearance
Then prayer prayer prayer! I dont know of this helped buh I kinda had a good arrangement in my application. Each doc had the title written above it, to make for good recognition. Also this was an ONLINE application, you dont need an agent to do your thing, just grab the neccessary info and do it right!
Thank you once again guys! It will be your turn soon.

congratulations @Jewel80,

Your was fast. It took less than 9 weeks. cool

Congratulations @ssticks ,

Hello All,

Been a silent reader here. Although I discovered this thread after I submitted my TRV application, I have learnt so much from the visa application process from you all.

My TRV got approved yesterday, July 4.

My timeline is below:
Date of Submission (Online): May 16, 2018
Upfront medicals
Medicals passed: June 11
Approval and passport request: July 4

Documents submitted:

1. CIC forms
2. 5 page SOP
3. Personal Statement of Account with NGN2.8 (1.5m was transferred to me by my mum through a Deed of Gift)
4. Scholarship letter covering my tuition issued by UBC
5. Letter of sponsorship from my mum
6. Mum's account statement
7. UBC admission letter
8. Waec, Nysc certificates and IELTS result
9. Copies of awards I have won in my field
10. Qualification certificates, my transcript, CV
11. Evidence of landed property owned by my mum
12. My car ownership papers
13. My birth certificate
14. Employment letter and promotion letter, employment ID card
15. Police clearance certificate
16. My payslip and mum's payslip

I hope this helps someone. Truth be told, there is no exact method for getting a TRV approval. Just keep praying and holding on to God. When God says it is time, everything will fall in place.

Wishing all TRV hopefuls the very best.

Congrats @Dolzz,

An example of not 1 size fits all. I sight that you had a 5page SOP and got approved.

Just wanted to state that, following our recent conversations on this forum as per this topic.

Please try to limit the use of caplocks while typing. I do not see why you'd want to subdue a VO to the torture of a 5pages SOP. I wonder the number of documents that would follow. 50copies? 100?

Hello @Joe @Dere1,

I don't think anyone should be in a position to advise on the number of pages for an LOE or SOP.
The reason is because you do not know what content or information that the person has put in there. U may want to ask first before outrightly saying that it would bore the visa officer. U may want to ask to help read his or her SOP or LOE then better advice. So that the person does not reduce the information that may just be what the VO needs to see,

I have read on several forums and blogs outside of Nairaland, where people have said that its always better to provide more information than required if space can contain it, than providing less information.

No one here is a visa officer and you do not know what extra information they look out for which may be the icing on the cake and the additional reason for approving your application.

Please follow your heart play the devil's advocate on your application. Ask yourself this. Are all the information that I have placed there relevant and important. Are the information I have placed in there strong career or professional points or reasons for my study in Canada?

You also don't want to get a refusal and be left with the guilt that you would have added this or added that.

Then follow your heart on the number of pages.

There is no 1 size that fits all, please always know this. There is also no visa officer here on Nairaland. We are all just second guessing and leveraging on past knowledge and information based on trends of approvals or refusals.

Hello @olugere

If you have a business running and u still work full time, i think it would be a plus in the eyes of the VO.
However, I hope that there no conflict of interest in both businesses? ( Your employers business and yours).

Provided that your business is not the same as where you work and does not create a conflict of interest. Then it may be an upper hand. It may also show strong home ties back here in Nigeria for you.

(I amended my response after a deeper thought.)

Hello I was rejected on the following grounds.

Travel History
Family ties
Purpose of visit
Current employment situation
Financial status and Personal asset

Now the thing is that all the above mentioned, I presented documents for them including travel history as well, I also presented family asset because my father is my sponsor and his financial statements was about 18m.
My application process took less than two weeks and a decision was made.

Could it be that I made an error feeling my application form. Or what do u guys think

It does not mean your application is processed in Lagos and if you applied online, there is no way you can know where your application is being processed until final decision is made. I don't think you should be bothered about where your application is processed, just the positive decision should bother you more.

CALA shows your application was submitted in Lagos.

Okay so it's testimony time and I think I should also testify on this platform because aside God, all the information I got was through this thread.

I have been following this thread since 2016 and I have read every single comment unfortunately I am not the type that comments.

So I got an internship program in Turkey last year and aside gathering my documents and reading through I have been very afraid about applying from a county that my status is an intern. But to cut the long story short I was encouraged by Austinpee and Osemigho I know they may not remember, so I finally applied and 4 days after I was sent a medical request surprisingly.

Timeline
Submitted application: May9
Medical call: May 12
Medical done:May 14

And lastly prayers and fasting cos honestly speaking I was very afraid given that I was applying from another country and given that I did not pay my tuition and my sister's account balance was below 1m.

Don't be discouraged.! Shalom. God can do yours.

Thank you for the information. I will add both children to our waitlist. Please understand that we do not have any spaces available for September and this is only to be added to the waitlist.

it's okay, it simply to show the visa officer reviewing your application that you have made some necessary inquiries and your children will be adequately taken care of.

neverlosehope:
I will like to encourage readers with my abridged testimony. Please never lose hope regarding your dream.

My profile:

In 2013 after working in different Nigerian banks spanning over 10 years, I became frustrated and need a better life for my family. At close to 40 years old, I decided to leave my banking work and pursue Masters degree abroad. Yes, you are right, if you think that I am crazy because so many people thought I was then. However, as I said, I need a better life for my family.

Previously, I had an undergraduate degree in sciences from Nigeria with second class (2:2). In 2013, I applied to 4 universities in Canada and I was rejected in all the universities because of low GPA. A Program Administrator in one of the universities told not to waste my fund applying to universities because of my low GPA but I should focus on my job. I was depressed for a while but I decided to pick myself up and move ahead.

In 2014, I took both GRE and TOEFL and applied to 5 universities in USA. Again, I got rejection letter from all 5 universities. I was depressed but I picked myself up and moved ahead the second time. I applied to another set of 4 universities in USA and to the glory of God, I got accepted into all 4 universities. Fortunately and as God will have it, I got full tuition waiver and stipends in one of the universities. In 2015, my wife and I applied for F2 and F1 visa (US study visas) which was approved together by the grace of God. Please note, this is the same guy with low GPA and 9 rejection letter.

Fast forward to 2017, toward the end of my Masters program, I applied for PhD programs in both USA and Canada. Although, I had a few rejection letters from my PhD applicants but I got admitted into 4 top universities, 2 in USA and 2 in Canada. To crown this testimony, all the universities were funded with very generous stipends which are adequate to take care on my family living expenses.

Today June 15th 2018, both my wife open work permit and my study permit were approved after 3 weeks of application (since we are applying from US).

Lesson to learnt:

1) Never lose hope. Miracles do happens. Always believe.

2) Never let your past define your future. Your past is gone and you don't have control over it again, however, your future is still ahead and you can control it. Therefore, focus on what you can control.

3) Never let anything or anyone stop you from achieving your dream. Obstacles are part of life, nobody, low or bad GPA should not stop you . When you fall, please stand up, dust yourself, reload and move forward. Quitters never win and Winners never lose.

4) Never let age put a limit on your dream. I started my masters degree at the age of 40 years and 16 years after having my BSc degree. Now, I have master degree from a reputable university and should complete my PhD degree in next few years. You can always achieve your dream at any age if you are resilient and persistent.

5) Follow your dream no matter the challenges. Redirect your steps if one is not working and keep pushing forward.

6) Above all, HOLD ON TO GOD AND KEEP BELIEVING IN HIS AMAZING POWER, GRACE AND MERCY. His is a miracle working God and He will always come through for you.

I do hope that I am able to encourage myself with my abridged testimony.

When God says YES no man can say no!. Thanks be to God and a big congratulations.

geotherm,

Firstly, After scanning your documents, start compressing each and every one of them using Microsoft office picture manager, compress the quality of each document by clicking on Edit Pictures option which can be found on the top bar. Then select Compress for: documents. After which, you then merge all this documents using smallpdf.com, and compress it again using smallpdf.com. You will get your documents quality within the range of 2.55MB-3MB leaving them with an original outlook.

Good luck!

hmmm... it took me 3 days of doing nothing else than compressing files. At some point, i was extremely fatigued.
But here is what i realized that helped me along the line.

1. Scan as PDF. ( Not all printers do this, as a matter of fact only big printers do this). i used the HP printer laser pro 200. Scanning your docs directly as pdf reduced the size. Scanning as image or picture is quite heavy and even when you save as PDF it is bigger than if yoiu had scanned to pdf directly.

2. Use ilovepdf.com to compress files ( i noticed its the best PDF compressing tool. it reduced smaller than others. It also allows you an opportunty to choose the quality of the document you want.

3. Another option if you wanna even reduce the PDF size after scanning to pdf is use select tool on PDF and select the picture from PDF and paste in word. The size even comes out smaller.

its a lot of work compressing until you get 4mb but you will get it eventually

You need ''study leave letter'' from your children's school indicating the period they will be away and when they will return. Also inquire about schools/daycare close to the location of where you will be studying in Canada, then attach your email trail inquiries to your application.

I also submitted a family application.
