Let's consider it Moroccan vengeance but the Algerians really put on a show of shame throughout that day. In fact, of all the refereeing complaints made by teams, theirs is nonsense. They have no case.

You severely underrate sporting politics. Morocco wouldn't have this leverage in the first place if other nations had comparable infrastructure. That's the gospel truth. Why does CAF have so few viable alternatives that they repeatedly turn to the same country? The officiating issues and Morocco's dominance as a host are 100% connected, and we've seen the evidence. When one country controls the backup venue repeatedly, it creates an unhealthy power dynamic. Now you're stuck trying to bend over backwards so as not to upset your benefactors. It's no surprise that this tournament ended up as easily the most controversial AFCON in history.

CAF needs multiple nations with world-class facilities so that there's always genuine competition for hosting rights. That competition naturally brings accountability. This is where countries like your beloved Nigeria continue to fail over and over again. Until African football federations invest seriously in infrastructure, we'll keep seeing the same cycle. The solution is to eliminate the conditions that concentrate power in one place. Morocco knows the advantages they have, and whether they exploit those advantages deliberately or not becomes almost irrelevant because the system allows it anyway. The only solution is eliminating their monopoly through genuine competition.
I don’t think Morocco has any monopoly here. I also think hosting Afcon is beginning to get more expensive to host in recent years because of the increase in participating teams which requires more venues, hotels and other facilities, when Afcon was just a 8, 12 or 16 nation tournament I don’t think countries were shying away from hosting. Even a poor country like Burkina Faso once hosted Afcon. Perhaps those who think holding it every four years may now have a justification. Afcon is becoming a multi billion dollar competition and only few I mean very few countries in Africa can afford that. It’s what it is. It’s either countries begin to team up as co hosts like the next edition or we just finally settle for the four year frequency and let the few countries who have the means host it. The cost of hosting is the issue on a continent where poverty is still raging most people

NasirIbnLaAhad:
Okay, let's leave Oliseh aside for now. I'm speaking for myself alone here, and not Oliseh. Now I'm not diminishing the bronze itself. What I had an issue with was the manner of celebration. The way the bench ran out like they won the final felt a bit cringe to me. I get it. You finished in the top 3. Any team should be proud of that. But when you're minutes removed from a semifinal loss, with a World Cup spot denied and legitimate grievances about officiating still raw, jubilant celebrations naturally feel premature and tone-deaf. Not to mention the fact that you did one better in the last tournament by winning silver. Everyone has low expectations pre-tournament which the team exceeded with quality football. But I'm not sure how that warrants effusive celebration as opposed to quiet satisfaction. Having an elite mentality demands we feel the sting of falling short in the first place, especially when the prize was genuinely within reach.

When Oliseh made that observation, I was reminded of William Troost-Ekong's hilarious and ridiculous celebration after scoring a PENALTY against LESOTHO in that World Cup qualifying match in October last year. Take note of the words I emboldened. There was no need to go off celebrating when the match wasn't even over. I think it was Osimhen who just ran into the net and picked up the ball to resume play quickly.

My fear is that we're becoming too satisfied with anything less than the best. We need to maintain high standards and hunger. You can appreciate progress while still being appropriately disappointed about missed opportunities. Both can coexist. The way they celebrated suggested contentment with bronze when gold was attainable, and irrespective of how you felt about Oliseh's critique there, I don't find anything there to fault completely. For me, Lookman had the right mentality. He scored the winning penalty against Egypt but he didn't start jumping all over the pitch over it. He was walking back until Awaziem came and lifted him up.
The boys are human and same as we, after all that depressing semi final loss it’s only natural to celebrate the next win. I understand where you are coming from but all of us are not like that especially when you begin to isolate the circumstances one after the other. Chuks penalty miss was a low one for everyone and the penalty loss against Morocco was too painful so winning the next game by the same penalty shootout after loosing two in a row against dr Congo and Morocco was a mentality booster for the team. Loosing again by pks would have been a greater disaster for both Chelle and the team so I can understand their manner of celebration.

Embracing mediocrity & celebrating 3rd grin
However this tournament looked prearranged for Morocco to win by certain football powers
Im glad we came third because I wouldn’t want our players or staffs to be in Western media & FIFA’s black book
They’re about to sanction Senegal FA & their coach
Some Senegalese players could be punished too
Thé gap between the 1st & 5th placed teams in Africa isn’t much, tiny margins separate them
There should be no excuse for Super Eagles in East Africa, I don’t see North African teams doing well there
Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroun potential winners
What’s Mediocre about the eagles in this Afcon or is it another eagles I watched?

Even when we won in 2013 some said it was a mediocre performance. This our attitude of downplaying our performance because we don’t like some players or the coach is witchcraft. All because Nigerians criticised oliseh for his performance as a commentator then we should be mocked for celebrating bronze, Issorite

All things being considered, we shouldn't be celebrating a bronze medal. I was miffed about that as well. We came to win it all, not settle for third and pat ourselves in the back for getting a 9th bronze. We have enough of those already, winning another one should be an insult. Especially knowing we don't have a World Cup to participate in. That being said, yes, Oliseh did make a whole lot of bizarre assertions in his inglorious tirade, particularly with regards to why the team lost. Nigeria lost because of two reasons: 1) poor officiating that killed our momentum, 2) Chelle not having a solid plan B. Even if he did have a plan B, it was clear the players had not soaked it fully enough because the execution was practically non-existent. That's all. Any other reason is largely in Oliseh's imaginations.
The team has been poor before this Afcon so celebrating bronze is not out of place. Let’s stop glorifying our past successes. Not many gave this team a chance after struggling against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Rwanda. I get am before no be property. Let’s stop overrating ourselves. This is one of the most competitive Afcons ever that we have 3 players in the overall 11, and foreign analysts are even saying we should have more on there. We played the best football everyone all over the world admires. Sweet attacking football like never before. This is not a mediocre performance by the eagles in any standard and that bronze was a testament to that. Oliseh is only trying to name and shame the team and the nation. He should be ignored totally please

opes:
The late Mark Aku was the sport minister then, Oliseh was very rude to him, when they asked him to apologise for his action, he publicly said the minister was not older than him, he refused. The problem he created in super eagles goalkeeper department affected the team for many years before Nwabali came over.
In the video, he was talking of the dwindling fortune of the team and inability to qualify for AFCON and worldcup. Did he forget he was the coach when the team failed to qualify for 2017 AFCON, before SIasia could turned things around, it was too late. Yes, we lost the playoff to DR congo via a penalties, Oliseh as a coach lost to the same DR Congo.
All what he accused Osimhen of, he did the same, even worst as a player
It’s those who don’t know history that takes oliseh seriously!

And he has not changed always trying to create problems where there’s none! See him in that video accusing and mocking the nff for the petition against dr Congo the same way he was almost saying we have no case in the South African player suspension issue during the wcq series. And someone will still think he means well for the nation. Phew

He went ahead and posted that shyte on X. Dem dey give am woto woto.

Oliseh should not come near our national team oo. He's a toxic person with persecution complex. As a coach, he said that he was being hounded. As an ex player/consultant, dem still dey hound you.

I clearly see now why he failed. When he came into the team as coach, Mikel was the star boy. What did Oliseh do? He immediately went after Mikel to cut him down and demoralize him by bringing a player nobody knew about before and after the Mikel issue. Look at his fight with Enyeama.

You see that your attack against the 94 set. Abeg narrow it to Oliseh and leave out the others.

I read a comment where someone said he should borrow a leaf from Kanu, Okocha and Mikel. These were all captains in their time just like Oliseh. These other guys NEVER criticize the team openly. You think they agree with everything? No. But when you have access to the players, there's no need creating content that will create division in the squad. Instead you call the players and talk to them.

If you are Lookman and you watch this video, even if you have a clean mind, some toxic seed will be sown in your heart. If you are Osimhen and you watch it, you would be filled with rage.

Oliseh wants to destroy our football again oo.
He’s indeed toxic as he’s actually trying to set osihmen up again to react so people will start attacking the striker again. He’s a devil just trying to act intelligent and objective in the eyes of people. He was even mocking the entire country for celebrating bronze when we know how this team was before Afcon. He actually doesn’t want to see any national team succeed again cos his voice is only loud and clear when the team fails!

The same Lookman he’s trying to praise now, during the Tanzanian game he never commended the player for scoring that beautiful goal he kept quiet while his fellow commentator kept praising the player. I will continue to say it again and again he doesn’t see any Nigerian player both past and present better than him and the ones he feels are the greatest in the generation after him he must pull them down. Hypocrite!

Omo, Oliseh has finally put off all disguise and come out plain to say that the reason why we lost the semi was because Osimhen broke Lookman's spirit by publicly verbal abuse.

Remember I sensed it in his last podcast where I stated that he praised Lookman and Akor lavishly but kept mute on Osimhen.

A public spat is what Oliseh has deviously recast as 'public verbal abuse' of Lookman by Osimhen. How na? Something that whole world watched. How did Osimhen telling Lookman "it's a team game" amount to public verbal abuse. Oliseh has set down his own agenda where Osimhen is the abuser and Lookman is the victim. Is this not a crock of lies? This is something we all watched oo, yet see the spin Oliseh has put on it just to paint Osimhen as the villain.

Against Morocco, our attack line was blunt because the midfield couldn't get Its act together. He said Osimhen broke Lookman's spirit. It wasn't only Lookman who didn't play well. Even Osimhen himself and Akor did not play well. Did Osimhen broke Akor's spirit too.

Truth is that even in the Algeria match, Oliseh had stated that Lookman did not play well because of the spat. So that was the foundation. He's building on it.

Oliseh does not like Osimhen. That much is clear. If he were the coach, he would have benched Osimhen against Algeria as punishment for the spat and we could possibly have been beaten by Algeria.

Oliseh cannot coach Nigeria oo. He create division and unhealthy atmosphere of rivalry.
That’s why am not happy at times with the inconsistent performance of the current generation of players they are the ones that will keep making the likes of oliseh continue to run their mouth and use eloquence to deceive many.

Oliseh thinks he’s always right even when he speaks foolishly. Is it osihmen that made chuks and Bruno to miss their penalties? Did the eagles truly fail at this Afcon considering where we were before Afcon? His problem is no one has the right to question him because he feels he’s the best. Dude kind of arrogantly attributes the success of the 94 team to himself. If you listen to the video in detail you’ll see where he said Nigeria never won anything for years until he joined the national team in 1993. A team but for Yekini goals they won’t have won Afcon or qualify for the World Cup and immediately Yekini left what title did he and the rest of his teammates won at senior level? Phew. Unfortunately not many will be able to isolate issues properly from his current ranting.

Technically, the fairplay award is awarded to the team with the least cautions in a tournament.
Maroc had the lowest number of yellows among teams that went all the way to the semis. Ofcos lesser yellows helped especially by the corrupt refs who refused to card them vs Nigeria (zero yellow), Tanzania (1 yellow only), vs Cameroon (1 yellow only).

We all know it is all nonsense. Nothing fair about the moroccans at all throughout the tournament.
