Fellow Nlanders, if you must counter this guy, please ensure you have facts pointing in the opposite direction lest you derail this thread with insults and unnecessary comments.

And you Mr. SouthEast facts, hope you aren’t feeding us with lies. Hope you won’t get busted. It would have been better if you quoted sources like INEC, NBS etc.

Deban:

My advice, there is nothing like home. Home is where you make it, but you have to be rugged, determined, smart to hit the ground and running.

A lot of people do not fulfill there potentials abroad until they finally come home. In the US or Europe, you don't get close to those in government because you don't know them. there are procurement jobs or contracts by the US or European government. The people in government patronise companies of people they already know, being childhood friends, neighbours, school mates. Now, not being born Americans or Europeans mean you will be a stranger and outsider to this opportunities. You can't really fulfill your potentials. In the end, you end up working forever in US or Europe and live from hand to mouth. In Nigeria, you will have opportunities to own and grow your company and have your childhood friends, school mates in authority patronise you with contract or procurement job or whatever field of specialization. You can actually be employer of labour in Nigeria. Most owners of the new generation banks were trained in US or Europe.

I lived in the Western world for over 13 years, with Masters degree from there. Naturalised and kids. but I struggled from hand to mouth. I worked in the financial industry. I tried coming back several times but left out of frustration. But I know I want to live well and rule my world than live where the time determines what I do, wake, work, gym, watch TV and sleep, only to wake up and repeat same activity the next day, seeing less educated white boys boss me. I know I did not want to see white boys bidding and getting contracts from the borough while I struggle to bid and win after I registered my company. During President Jonathan's era, many US and Europe based flooded Nigeria. I seized the opportunity. I registered a company in Nigeria and started networking and winning contracts. Invested in transport with my buses plying Lagos, Abuja, PH. Expanded my fleet during Jonathan's era because profit was good. Recession has made it difficult making profit but still hanging on. Can actually train my kids in the West from proceeds I make from Nigeria. Can drive Range Rover, Toyota High Lander, Chrysler 300, Sienna paid cash in Nigeria and not mortgage as we so in the western world. I can buy land and build easily with profit from a business in Nigeria. You have to network and work hard. I finally caught up with my friends who stayed back in Nigeria after we left school while I wet overseas. While I was in abroad, they were doing better financially and visited me and I cursed myself for ever migrating. But with determination, I left the circle of work, eat, watch TV, sleep, came down to Nigeria and improved financially, happier, livelier, more comfortable. When things became better, went back and gave out most valuables I had. I can not see myself going back to live permanently overseas again. My very closed relatives who migrated to US in the 70s and with several degrees do not have the cash I have since I came to hustle in Nigeria. Dangote could be the richest African because he is based in Nigeria. He would not have been if he migrated to US or Europe. There is opportunity in Nigeria, but leave your options open to go back if it does not work well in Nigeria. Target a business where you will have 180m Nigerians patronising you. The population is a huge market. Agriculture/farming is lucrative. Eatery or Supermarket can be lucrative too. I know a girl friend who left the US to Nigeria and went into fish farming about the year 1999. By when I came in 2012, she was making a lot of money from it and regretted not coming back from US much earlier. There is nothing like home where opportunities are many, but prepare your mind to deal with security issues, rowdiness, unruly traffic and drivers, bad road, corrupt police, power failure. Your determination to succeed will see you through in Nigeria.

it is fun living in Nigeria.
You talk like someone that likes to enjoy the good things of life! grin the freedom and jollof for Naija despite the wahala no let some of us relocate permanently.

I believe you my brother.

RedGold2017:
The reason why Nigeria is a failed state is right here on this thread, it's "THE PEOPLE " . We blame the government often, but the people are the government. I shake my head for the next nigerian generation, most Nigerians need major re-orientation. For some odd reason Nigerians think it's easy overseas, I shake my head. Let me tell you a fact, if you can't make anything out of yourself in Nigeria, you will NEVER do better abroad either. Until you've worked and struggled abroad with no moral support and you suffer from bouts of depression, you will NEVER understand. Your average American believes in their country and most have stayed to make it what it is. If they bailed at any sign of challenges, you will not be dying to cross over.
How i wish the American government can just grant the wishes of some of you so you can go and experience life or If there wasn't any option to relocate maybe you all would make something of yourselves.
OP, in life strive to find yourself wherever you are, by all means do not be an illegal alien in any country, it never really ends well. It's either you find a way to legalize or start mapping out your plan to come to Nigeria. 30k is about 10mill , you can buy treasury bills. Take the almost 2mill upfront, find someone to room with on the island, pay a years rent with half. And start exploring opportunities. It's not a must you should wear suit and tie and scavenge the whole city for employment. Try looking for areas of improvement where you can provide service. Even in today's America, if you want to make it big you have to think of ingenious ideas and areas that haven't been tapped into. Same applies anywhere in the world if you don't want to remain complacent with mediocrity.
Re-orientate yourself from all these kiddos and oldies that aspire to the champagne lifestyle, you can survive on what you have till something works out. Ignore all these ones whose role models are politicians, scammers and what not, do not despise the power of good old hard work and dedication, it still goes a long way. Problem with Nigerians is everyone wants to arrive quickly, someone without employment for 10yrs wants to be a boss in 1 month, that's why most of them are mostly unemployable. Always envious of the person with a car/ better life when they don't know their story or how much they worked to get it. Your average American starts working at McDonald's or the mall.at age 16 to grasp the concept of earning a living, life just doesn't happen, you work you way through it.

My point? it all boils down to you, stay illegally in the US and God help you Trump and his people come after you, you will find yourself at the back of MMA with only a knapsack to your name. Be wise.

Good thoughts! I think the real question for the OP should be ‘do I continue living in America as an illegal immigrant or relocate to Nigeria with a savings of 30k USD’? The worst thing that can happen is for him to be deported with a nylon bag of personal belongings. Some people would rather live in Sudan as free borns than in America as aliens or slaves. The ultimate choice is yours. Good luck!

Politics / Re: If Buhari Is Not Running In 2019, I Will Go With Atiku Abubakar. by GoldCircle: 10:29am On Sep 07, 2017
Alcatraz005:
I know I would get insulted and vilified for this post but I don't care! I will start with asking Nigerians, what do we have to lose? We have suffered so much for the past 2 years under Buhari's anti corruption government which is laced with ethnic bigotry, Fulani supremacy and the ascendancy of fundamentalist Islam.

Our igbo brothers have been over punished for making their choice at the polls and our nation is on the brink of collapse. In my personal opinion, if President Buhari is not running for 2019, I would advice that we go for Atiku Abubakar in 2019 to afford the north the opportunity of completing their slot. I work in the legal field and I have seen the mess that the Government has done in prosecuting the looters of our treasury. Not one successful conviction has been recorded! When Goodluck Jonathan was President, corruption was rife but at least Nigerians could feed better. The exchange rate never went beyond 200 and life was generally better. Now with the anti corruption Government, we can barely have 2 square meals in Nigeria. So I ask, what have Nigerians gained from this anti corruption adventure? I know that the general sentiment/view amongst Nigerians is that Alh. Atiku Abubakar is ultra corrupt but I put it to you that he is the only Northerner that can be acceptable to other Nigerians if President Buhari is not running for President in 2019. Atiku is detribalised, exposed, a liberal Muslim, wealthy(poverty alleviation ) and most important of all, we would all be able to enjoy Nigeria's money.

Do not be deceived, none of these elite folks love Nigerians! They are only there to help themselves and their families! So do not be drawn to their internal wars. Baba Obasanjo is reportedly against Atiku's Presidencial bid but he has only one vote. The choice is with the millions of Nigerians who feel the brunt of bad leadership. Do not allow these corrupt politicians to control our thought process. If we all know that they are all corrupt, why don't we vote for the one who would ensure that majority of Nigerians at least have a chance to enjoy our lives? I ask again, what do we have to lose? We are already ensnared in their wicked conspiracies anyways!

Finally, I root for Alh. Atiku Abubakar because the other major choices from the North would not do well for the unity of this country. Nasir El Rufai who is rumored to be gunning for the top post in 2019 is too fundamentalist and sectional in nature and he would be worse that the current government. He is a very brilliant man but he doesn't like Christians. Evidence abound of his actions towards people of other faith throughout his stewardship at the FCT and now Kaduna. A lot of Christians would not want him presiding over the affairs of this very diverse nation. The other candidate is Rabiu who has proven to be pro north in all his dealings. He has made it his mission to bail out hausas involved in ethnic fracas all over Nigeria. One does not need a soothing sayer to see what the country would be like under his Government. Alh. Atiku in my opinion still remains the best choice for President in the event that President Buhari is not running in 2019. If Nigerians are going to continue suffering, let us know what we are suffering for and decide to share in the goodies of our country once and for all! What is the use of an anti corruption crusade when Nigerians are starving and impoverished?

I know I would be insulted for this but this is my humble logomatim.

The suffer too much!
I stand with #Atiku2019
Well written article in terms of written words, arrangement and lexicon. But that's about where it ends.Logically, it doesn't add up. You inevitable set yourself up with this part

If you say that Atiku is perceived as ultra-corrupt, and that we should not allow these "corrupt" politicians control our thought process as they are all corrupt. Then you are invariably saying that all Nigerian politicians are corrupt and that Atiku only being a Nigerian Politician is similarly corrupt. But that irrespective, he remains the best of the pack.

c'mon! I think you can do better mate.

Will a Buhari/APC government ensure a free, fair and transparent election in 2019? This should be the main issue at hand and not a Peter Obi/ Donald Duke ticket.

With the spate of inconclusive elections here and there, I doubt INEC as presently constituted will serve the interest of the people in 2019.

The life of a servant to the Oba of Benin is better than that of many so called free Nigerians.
In any case, the terms "servant" and "freeborn" are very relative, subjective ones. A man who cannot afford to be more than 1hr late to work, who cannot afford to take an occasional day off from work to spend time with his family or take a vacation anytime he pleases, is that man really free?
I quite agree with you. How many of us actually have 'freedom' in the true sense of it. We are all slaves in one form or the order. Slaves to money, slaves to technology, slave to religion. It is a fact, that today that we have more slaves in the world than any order time in human history.
