PoliticsRe: Pdp Appears To Be Popular In The South West ? by Golfer: 5:33pm On Apr 11, 2011
Thank God!!! At least Nigeria is moving forward.

All your arguments are valid, I see people giving reasons for their choices. This is more like democracy.

We seem to have moved away from voting based on tribe alone. This way we may even have a Fashola as president in the near future.

May the will of the people be carried and reflected in the results.
PoliticsRe: Jega Offers To Resign, Jonathan Rejects; Resignation Amounts To Treason – Agf by Golfer: 4:52pm On Apr 04, 2011
May God give Jega help and direction in conducting Nigeria's election and may God's will be done.

I say this because most of us Nigerians are just looking for peace, progress and development and we do not know who can actualise this goal.

Which RRS areu talking about? those guys do nothing than taking their share from Agberos and park chairmen. Dont be deceive by those amoured cars parked at some strategic location some of them not moved from same spot in 6 month. A driver once told me that amoured car and RRS parked at some specific parks are being paid for daily by the Chairman of such park. It is deliberately stationed there to provide protection for current chairman of such park to discourage rivals from taking over. I believe the driver cos he was one of them.
These guys have been located strategically to protect the people of Lagos; have you ever seen them fighting for any chairman?  The RRS has not been involved in other activities like the toll collectors etc.
They were funded mainly by Lagos businesses.  In my opinion, they have been doing a good job.
PoliticsRe: IG Disbands Special Crime Squads Nationwide! by Golfer: 1:04pm On Nov 04, 2010
Is this guy on drugs??

Rapid Respond Squad in Lagos has been a breath of fresh air, why disband them?

They dither crime just by their presence and good vehicles and armoury (donated by Lagos businesses).

So why disband them and what is the replacement?

huh huh huh angry angry angry angry

PoliticsRe: Pdp Never Zoned Presidency -jonathan by Golfer: 11:46am On Sep 29, 2010
People should stop talking about zoning.  If you believe in zoning to the North then vote Ribadu.  In my opinion there will be 2 candidiates to vote for in 2011, Jonathan and Ribadu.

Follow your hearts by voting, just lets make sure that we do not have aspirants like IBB or Atiku emerge as the major candidiates.

The choice is yours, lets come out and vote. Put your vote where your mind or mouth is,

PoliticsRe: How Is Ibb Better Than Gej Or Vice Versa by Golfer: 5:36pm On Sep 16, 2010
It is a shame that in 2011, we will again not have any credible presidantial candidiates.

The major political parties will only select candiadiates that will bribe the party delegates.

So if I had a choice between IBB and GEJ, I will probably sit at home, as I know either way it will be a battle on who can rig or buy the elections.

GEJ is probably much better than IBB but would not be my choice candidiate.
PoliticsRe: Ok- If It Is Not Goodluck E. Jonathan - Who Should It Be? by Golfer: 12:16pm On Sep 15, 2010
I think GEJ should endorse Ribadu and then contest in 2015.
TravelRe: Why Is It Difficult To Return Home? by Golfer: 4:05pm On Aug 23, 2010
I thought the basis of this was to discuss what makes it difficult for those who want to return back to Nigeria, not whether it is is a good idea to relocate.
TravelRe: Why Is It Difficult To Return Home? by Golfer: 2:47pm On Aug 23, 2010
I agree completely  because professionals in diaspora are the ones to bridge the gap between the haves and the haves not by creating mid scale businesses with a difference.

However, it is not easy and before you know it a returnee throws away all (good) that he/she has learnt for the same bad things that we complain about everyday in the name of survival.

There are several who actually want to relocate but find it really difficult in terms of relocation cost and finding work.
There are also several that have relocated and run back 1 year later because they were not prepared.

freshera:
All the good things we see in the West are the products of some people's sweat, tears and blood not just black slaves but white visionaries.

I heard there was a time when they used to kill witches by jungle justice and they also had their own corruption days.

If they did not make the necessary sacrifices then, we would not be thinking of emigrating today. Nigerians abroad need to come back home, change others' mentality (in different areas) and fight for a better life for the next generation.

The ancestors of the present Westerners fought and worked for what they have today through several wars and pestilences of old. Even as at today, they are still working on how to make their society better. We should not give up on Nigeria.
TravelRe: Why Is It Difficult To Return Home? by Golfer: 2:17pm On Aug 23, 2010
Brilliant write up redman44.

The main reasons are for the fear of the UNKNOWN factors; Nigeria is very unpredictable (we never know what will happen next). Then for a profesional to leave the comfort of his job and stable living environment and embark on a journey of uncertainty is difficult for some.  Relocating will at that point have go against logic, because if you have a table and line up the benefits and disadvantages, the logic of  " There is no place like home" might be the winning arguement.

Then the cost of relocation is so high about $40k (£26k) for an average professional.

Below are some costs, just off the top of my head.

Cost of relocation

Relocation of personal effects N750k
Average family house (for a professional in Lagos) to rent = N1.5m per annum
for 2 years = N3m
Generator =N1.5m
Car = N2m
Domestic help = N250k per annum
School fees = Hmmmm!

For those who do not know, this is normal business practice for Aliko. Most times he goes all out to discredit or cripple financially his business opponents, as a way of getting ahead.

PoliticsRe: Fasinro To Take Over At Stock Exchange ! by Golfer: 11:18am On Aug 10, 2010
I am just wondering when all this man know man will stop in Nigeria.  She might be qualified but how about looking for all those with the more relevant experience, whose parents or family are not connected within the Nigerian society.

wales:
The Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday named Emmanuel Ikhazobor as interim administrator to oversee the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) pending the appointment of a new director general, but sources say Yvonne Fasinro, JP Morgan Chase Country Lead for Nigeria, will soon be named the substantive director general. Mrs Fasinro, a seasoned banker, has an impressive pedigree. Her husband is Habeeb Fasinro, the House of Representatives member representing Eti Osa federal constituency, Lagos State whose father is the first town clerk of Lagos City Council. Her father, Christopher Kolade, was Nigeria's former high commissioner to Britain, and a management expert.

When contacted yesterday, Udoma U Udoma, the chairman of the stock exchange said, "I am not aware of that so I cannot confirm it. I am not the spokesperson for SEC or stock exchange." Similarly, a SEC official was reluctant to confirm the appointment yesterday.

Mrs Fasinro is a Senior Vice President at JP Morgan Chase, one of the world's biggest financial services institutions with assets worth $1.1 trillion and operations in more than 50 countries. She is an Ernst and Young trained Chartered Accountant who holds a BSc in Economics. She joined JP Morgan in 1994 and in that time has worked in the private bank, investment bank, and in a variety of roles in the fixed income, credit, equity, and equity derivatives businesses.

Investigation commences

Meanwhile, the SEC has commenced investigations into the activities of the stock exchange over allegations of financial irregularities in the exchange. The commission's director general Arumah Otteh who addressed a press briefing to officially announce measures taken by the commission to address integrity and governance concerns that has plagued the NSE in the last two years, said:

"Like all of you, the commission has closely followed the development in the Nigerian Stock Exchange,

particularly with the ongoing litigation, implementation of the succession plan, allegations about financial impropriety and corporate governance lapses at the exchange." She said in view of its immediate findings, it was in the best interest of the market for the commission to take drastic measures in order to restore sanity into the system.

"The allegations purport that the exchange is insolvent and may soon face bankruptcy and it will not be able to meet its financial obligations." She said. Mrs Otteh explained that the commission has not been able to prove these allegations as the NSE has not yet submitted its audited financial statements for the year 2009 as statutorily required. "A formal investigation will therefore serve to shed more light on the situation." She said, adding that the removal of Ms Okereke-Onyiuke and president of the NSE council, Aliko Dangote was to stop the drift in the stock exchange.

Mr. Dangote, after weeks of infighting, last week declared that the NSE was insolvent due to mismanagement and lack of corporate governance. He therefore called for an investigation into the financial records of the stock exchange to determine its true state as a going concern.

Ms Otteh announced Mr Ikhazoboh as the interim administrator and Balama Manu, former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as interim president of the council of the NSE. She also said the interim administrator will run the exchange until a substantive director general is appointed. "By the very nature of an interim role, he will be ineligible to compete or vie for the position of the director general of the exchange," she said. Mr. Ikhazobor is the immediate past chairman and CEO of Akintola Williams Delloite, for West and central Africa which also acts as external auditors for the NSE.
