Hey, remember when BlackBerry was going to officially roll out BBM for iOS and Android a few weekends ago only to be stymied by technical issues? At the time it was yet another dark mark on BlackBerry’s already sketchy record, but things are finally starting to look up. The company confirmed on its Inside BlackBerry blog that the messaging app will go live in the Android and iOS app stores for new users once more at some point today. It’s a good thing, too. Considering the sorts of troubles that BlackBerry has been dealing with lately, it’s a little heartening to see that the company has finally managed to iron out the wrinkles with one of its biggest cross-platform pushes in recent memory. If you happen to be one of the six million (!) people who threw your name into the “I Want BBM” hat, you’ll be able to start using the apps right away. Unfortunately, the rest of us will be stuck a queue waiting for our turn to really use the apps, though the company noted that it was we “focused on moving millions of customers through the line as fast as possible.” Curiously enough, BlackBerry also crowed about the fact that over 1 million Android users had installed an iffy pre-release version of the application. To be fair that’s a pretty significant indicator of demand, but those people are also partially to blame for the BBM delay as a whole — that early version of the app generated amounts of data traffic that BBM head Andrew Bocking said was “orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user”, and at the time there was no way to launch a new, fixed version of the app without effectively screwing over all of the people who installed the illicit version. That not-so-little issue has apparently been cleared up though, but BlackBerry has offered little guidance on what sort of wait times interested users will have to endure before they can start BBMing each other. We’ll soon see how annoying this process really is, but in Blackberry’s defense, it really can’t afford to botch this whole thing a second time. A slow, manageable trickle of new users is definitely a nice change of pace from the damning traction seen at the end of September, but there are still plenty of potential problems BBM still has to face — think WhatsApp, Viber, Voxer, Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Line, Kakaotalk, and all those other entrenched messaging apps. The path to continued relevance is a tricky one, but at least BBM is finally ready to leave the gate. www.celebangmedia.com |

The 2013 edition of Felabration,a week-long concert which celebrates the life and times of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti commences from Monday, October 14 through 20 at the Afrikan Shrine, Ikeja, Lagos. In this interview, Femi Kuti, the eldest son of Fela went down memory lane, recounting the story of his late father, his music and ideologies. He also talks about what the fans of Afrobeat music will expect at this year’s Felabration among other issues. Felabration We learnt that Rita Marley will be headlining this year’s Felabration. Why is she not here today? She sent a message few days ago that she was not feeling fine, and might not make it to the event. However, she will be represented at the festival by the head of her foundation, Rita Marley Foundation. What’s the financial implication of organising this festival? We have no major sponsors at the moment. Fortunately, most of the artistes are performing for free. We have been very lucky that the likes of King Sunny Ade, D’banj, Wizkid, Pasuma, and many others, have been performing for free. This year, they will grace the stage again. But we usually pay a token to the up and coming artistes as a way of supporting them. However, Nigerian Breweries Plc has promised to come on board next year as a major sponsor of the event. We are hoping that as from next year, Felabration will not be talking about financial difficulties. What’s new in this year’s Felabration?...its a secret, read it @ www.celebangmedia.com

The NOI Polls, which is an opinion polling and research organisation, established by the current Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and named after her, yesterday released results from its poll carried out in January 2013, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child. NOI Polls revealed: “In order to commemorate this event and honour the girl child this special day, NOI Polls Limited released one of the polls we conducted in the first quarter of the year 2013, which was focused on the challenges faced by the girl child in Nigeria and indeed the world over as a result of the incidence of rape among women in the society. 34 percent of the participants believed that indecent dressing was the main cause of rape in the society; 18 percent believed unemployment was the cause; nine percent believed it was caused by lack of moral values and another nine percent believed it was caused by the inability to control sexual urges; seven percent said it was caused by faulty upbringing. Five percent of the participants believed rape was caused by illiteracy about women’s rights, ungodliness and bad company. So should the actions of the rapist be justified by indecent dressing? Do we now blame the girl who is not dressed "In a decent manner" for rape if it happens? Or the rapist should take 100% blame for his actions? Feel free to voice your opinions below... as clean as possible as usual www.celebangmedia.com

Glamorous?(HYFR)...Three time African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto'o a few weeks back spent 4million pounds on four exotic cars. He bought a £1.55m Bugatti Veyron which was specially delivered to the Chelsea striker's London club's training ground. He also bought an Aston Martin One-77 worth £1.25m, a luxury Maybach Xenatec worth £750,000 and an Aston Martin V12 Zagato worth £450,000. The Cameroonian has always been a fan of cars and spends big on cars but what is one man going to do with all these cars? Eto'o said: 'I like to have a few cars because it gives me choice and it doesn't hurt anybody. To give happiness, the first thing is to be happy oneself, and I am.'
