Pefuele:

The benefits of a GA is listed if you got one:
wages as stipend either monthly or hourly means you get paid every month or per hour
Like $8 per hour or it's equivalent in a month.

A tuition waiver of 100% during semester of appointment means you pay no tuition fee for the semester you work as a GA.

A waiver of up to 12 credit hours of tuition for the summer term immediately following a spring or fall appointment means you if you are doing a total of 36credit hours course you only pay for 24credit hours for summer semesters that that follows immediately a spring or fall semester that you work as a GA.

Am grateful
It is self-explanatory. When you are offered the scholarship for the program you intend to apply for, you'll be paid monthly stipends or weekly paycheck (wage), and your tuition fee (school fees) will be slashed significantly, to zero level, depending on how much you're offered and how many credit hour you're taking per semester. Basically, this is a jackpot--if you are eligible and meet the scholarship requirements.

Goodluck.

Thank you

I'm so sorry about your result. I think I posted what I feel you should do earlier in this thread before you took your test. I was thinking you would reschedule the test. I can see you wrote the previous test on the 31st of October (If I'm correct) and you wrote the next a couple of hours ago. And given your range of scores, there could not have been much improvements. The prep time was just too short.

I would have given other suggestions, but the hard truth is funding may not be as feasible as when you have great GRE scores. Though other factors like your CGPA come into play. I know it's difficult to write again after two attempts, but if i were in your shoes, I'll write again but this time, I would do things very differently. I would still suggest you read my earlier reply and adhere to it. Also, if you can, register at B.Y Mafit www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/gretestdatesinnigeria and go for 10 weeks lectures straight. Also make use of the magoosh and Manhattan online prep they give. The Manhattan has lots of practice questions. All these resources are free. Also, while there, join study groups and read arduosly. Then budget another 2-3 months for practice. I think there are some uploads here as well, though many of them would be outdated.

I know of a girl who scored just like what you scored, and took the steps I earlier suggested and had an upwards of 220.

Just as CptCharlesVane said, the GRE turns the wise of this world to fools and gives great scores to a foolish underperforming person who knows what he's doing

If you can't rewrite, and it's an absolute no, then I may be able to point you in the direction of some schools that will likely give admission based on other factors with a low GRE score.
Hi Dear. Please am interested in the schools that gives admission with a low GRE score.
I rewrote mine for d 2nd time & it happened dt my first score was better 276.3. I didn't expect to score a 274.3.5. because I practiced harder but was admitted in the hospital 2weeks to my exam. Infact I wrote my exam 2 days after I left d hospital.
So please, assist me with the schools.

Read and get inspiration/ideas of what to write... please, don't copy any of them o... admission officers have access to this kind of stuff.

Here you go: https://www.studential.com/university/applying/UCAS-application-guide/personal-statement-examples/subjects

But before you get too excited read my Caveat grin

Caveat: Chances are many schools already have a database of these essays and plagiarism is taken as a serious issue by schools. Not only can they deny you admission, they can give you an outright ban for lifting things off the internet. Many at times they have softwares that detect essays in part or whole gotten from the internet. So many people get denied admission and they keep asking why... Some think it's their step mother that is behind their case. grin . Not really. Google worked against you!

Pros: You can read through the plethora of essays there, to get inspiration and flow, in order to develop yours.

All the best!

I appreciate bro

lalahhh:
Im sorry but my post will be long. I decided to post this after seeing that my AP status changed to issued. First I’ll like to thank God for everything, Sorelee I thank you so so much, words can’t express how grateful I am to you. Ubah1 thank you for encouraging me. Kekenation thank you too. You guys are amazing. I have been to the embassy 7 times , 4 times last year and 3 times this year. I don’t think my last year’s transcripts would be necessary. So here’s my first interview transcript for this year.
Me- Good morning
VO- pass me your I 20 and passport
VO- where are you going to?
Me- North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina for my masters in( VO cuts in)
VO- what are you going for?
Me- My Masters Degree in History
VO- how did you get this assistantship?
Me- The department’s Chair was impressed with my GRE, my transcript, statement of purpose and essay.
VO- so why did you change course and school ?
Me- sorry? I didn’t get that.
VO- the last time you were here you were wanted to go to Arcadia so why change to NCCU?
Me- Arcadia gave me partial scholarship while NCCU gave me the full ride and in NCCU, I get to minor in courses related to Peace and Conflict Resolution.
VO- so who would pay for other expenses
Me- I have family funds
VO-which family?
Me- My Uncle
VO- what does he do?
Me - he works with the Kwara state government, at the Lower Niger River Basin.
VO- where does he live?
Me- Kwara state
She looks at the I 20 for a while then drops it
She asked for bank statement which I gave to her
She stared at it for a while , typed somethings ... In my mind I was just praying , then she asked
VO- why is your Uncle paying
Me- my parents sent his to school so this is more like a more thank you and he has the money
VO- how many siblings do you have ?
Me- 5
VO- which Uncle would be paying for them?
Me- I am the last child
VO - what’s the name of your Uncle
Me- I said his name
Then she picked up the I 20 again .... looked at it again and asked
VO- are you married?
Me- NO I’m not
VO- do you have children?
Me - No I don’t
Then she finally said I’m sorry you are not found eligible at this time.
This was lagos embassy. I was advised to try Abuja embassy and I did. Interview was for June 30th.
VO- Good morning , Pass your I-20
Me- Answered her while passing it.
VO- I see you have been denied in Lagos , why come to Abuja ?
Me- after being denied I informed the school and I was asked to please try again but I checked Lagos embassy and I couldn’t get an early date but I got here in Abuja.
VO- while nodding her head, what are you going to do in United States of America
Me- I’m going for my masters in History in North Carolina Central University
VO- how many schools did you apply to?
Me- 4. University of Wyoming, Texas A&M, North Carolina A&T and NCCU.
VO- I see you have full tuition waver
Me - Ohh yes while opening all my 36
Then she picked up the white paper, in my mind I was saying Ohhh yes, come to Mama... I’m right here baby , then she looked at me my heartbeat increased rapidly.
VO- where is you sister
Me - Confused n lost .... sorry?
VO- I said where is your sister?
Me- she’s in USA on OTP
VO- why isn’t she back? When did she travel? When is her date of birth? When did she travel?
Me- ahhhh I don’t know the answers to all these questions.. we are not so close
VO- wait I’m trying to help you out here
Me - shaking, already disorganized
Then she finally said it ... I’m sorry I won’t be issuing your visa.
Me - why? What’s wrong?
So I got home, with the mind of this is the end , called my sister and explained everything to her . She explained the part I mixed and begged me to go one more time, reluctantly I said ok. Luckily for me, we got July 19th on that same day. Truthfully I wasn’t so hyped about the last interview, I was dressed casually. I got interviewed by this middle aged woman on Ankara. A very nice woman I must add infact the nicest VO I ever came across. So here is the third transcript
Me- Goodmorning
VO- Good morning, you passport and I-20 please
I gave it to her
VO - ohhh NCCU
Me - yeah North Carolina Central University
VO- so who’s sponsoring you?
Me- I have full tuition waver and family support
VO- family support?
Me- yea my uncle.
VO- what does he do?
Me- he works with Kwara state Government at the Lower Niger River Basin
VO- Kwara state?
Me- yea Kwara state.
VO- where is that on the map? While looking at her map
Me- can you see Oyo state? It’s right beside Oyo state.
VO- ohhh wow , I can see it now .
VO- I see you have been denied twice , what has changed about your application?
Me- the last time I came here , i noticed the VO kept asking me questions about my sister that I didn’t know about and she ended up denying me. I went home, called my sister and she explained everything to me.
VO- so explain it to me too
Me- I did . Told her everything
VO- you see the main reason why you have been denied all these while is because of your family history, you sister finished school and she didn’t return.
Me- but she’s still in OTP and that’s my sister not me
VO- i know and that’s why it’s called family history . il do you a favour , il overlook it
Me- thank you so much
VO- wait
Me - in my mind, mo daran kilotun sele bayii
VO- il place you on AP , if we find anything fraudulent about your documents, you will be banned from entering the USA for life.
Me - No wahala , they are all real.
VO- Are you sure? make sure you travel before classes starts or else you will be turned back at the port of entry.
Me - ok ma’am. Thank you . Please can I pick up a tissue
VO - sure please do, take as much as u need .
Me- picked up the tissue and left
I might have forgotten some questions asked sha but this is all I can remember. I have found this thread really helpful. The main thing is be well prepared, be organized and learn from people. Thank you so much once again
Sorelee
Ubah1
Kekenation
Ekebs I really hope they issue yours too soon.
A very big congratulations to you Dear. What a touching transcript.
Go & excel in Trump's land!!!

So I decided to join this forum because I didn't want anyone to fall mugu to any yeye visa agent like I did... It was really bad....I didn't know there could be some kind of reward in it for me.

Went for my visa today 6:30 am, it was just a fascinating conversation that left me deaf! cheesy

What visa agents do to people ehn? May God help us all, and the way people were by that gate waiting the coming of our Lord , just to see if you will come out with White or blue paper..how won't they refuse people!

If I start telling you there were blue papers then I may forget to tell you that they had wings / were flying....but you my friend are different so believe and go for it!

Me: Good morning ..

Vo: Good morning ma'am, pass me your I-20 and
passport... how are you today?

Me: I'm okay, how are you?

Vo: Oh! I'm fine, thanks. What state did you say you are

Me: Florida,....Miami Florida.

Vo: What school are you going to there?

Me: Florida international university.

Vo: Oh! And which program?

Me: International business....

Vo: Why this school?

Me: Out of all the schools I applied to, they offered me
graduate assistantship.....

Vo: Ooh! Hmp!

Me: .... that covers some of my tuition expenses and
stipends.

Vo: Types... Looking at me from somewhere else while
typing...

Me: Looking at her while admiring her person.... grin wink

Vo: So you picked this school because of the funding?

Me: Yes! I did..... and their school ranks 7th in
international business...

Vo: Oh!! Typing...so did you take any test for this
funding...

Me: Ma,am??

Vo: Did you take any test?

Me: Oh! Yes I took my GRE, I scored .. ***..

Vo: Could you tell me the break down?

Me : The verbal is uhmm... ***, quantitative is ***,
analytical is *!

Vo: hmmm...typing and looking at me from a screen or
something somewhere...

Vo: What do you plan to do with this degree?

Me: I want to be able to own and manage a
consultancy firm of my own in the future ....that will
focus mainly on exportation of goods and
services here in Nigeria.

Vo: Ooh okay!!! Who is paying?

Me: My uncle is sponsoring, my mom will be
supporting me where necessary... I Laugh.

Vo: She laughs grin cheesy do you have their SOA?

Me: Yes! yes I do..... Fetching only my uncle's SOA
,..she was watching me caaaarefully like a
hawk....I hand it to her.

Vo: Looks and says "you are sure your uncle is okay
with you taking this"? It's very bulky.......she sighs
and look through, laughing.

Me: Yes!

Vo: What does this your uncle do?

Me: He owns a haulage company of his own and fuel
station
around the Eastern part of the country.

Vo: hmhmm!

She seem to be looking at my face on a screen somewhere.... Or something..

Vo: Are you married?

Me: No, I'm single .

Vo: Any kid ..

Me: No, I laughed ...

Vo: Laughed too.... You mean no child outside
wedlock...

Me: I smiled, chuckled then shook my head... wink (in my
mind { abeg make una no koba meoo, I no know if

Vo: Then she typed, looked at my face and typed some
more.... ... Still typing....

Vo: Guy your visa is approved (I deaf!) please make
sure you take your I-20 to... something.....keep it
well something.... something... Like that...

Me: Thank you very much...have a lovely day ...

She was reading my body language a lot !! but it was more like she wanted to talk some more or just to know my kind of person NOT looking for a reason to Deny me.
Good afternoon gurus in the house.
I wrote my GRE test today and I got an abysmal score and its so painful because it means I wasted 3month on preparing for this test
Well, I realised I was just blindfolded by my test score on Magoosh and powerprep which made me reduce my reading habit in the last two weeks of preparation.
My unofficial score is 303 (Q157 and V146) but I sent the score to some schools and I want you to help scrutinize my profile.
GRE-303
HND-WES OFFICIAL EVALUATION (3.59)
Course of Study-Electrical Engineering
RECOMMENDATIONS- 2 Doctors and 1 Mr.
I don't have any publication and infact my project was a research which is not related to what I want to study (investigation on the interpretation of energy saving lamps in residential houses in Lagos State) so I don't know if I can actually mention this to any professor.
I sent my scores to these four schools
Florida state University- hoping to apply for direct PHD and their GRE requirement is 145 in verbal and 151 in Quant
North Dakota state University- PHD in Electrical engineering. A professor from there have a PhD position with full funding and I will be mailing him today or tomorrow
Rochester Institute of technology-Masters Application
Georgia Southern university- Masters in Applied Engineering

Please give me an advice. I am thinking of taking that test again in 21days. The only practice I need to do more is RC. That thing get as e be ooooo[/quotee

What his the duration of the fixed deposit? Once it isn't beyond your resumption date then you will be fine. Just make sure the details of this fixed deposit are within the statement of account.
The bank can't change there order of naming for you. That's not a problem, a simple explanation will settle that if asked.

This may be completely different from how things are done in Nigeria but this is what I was thinking as a possible solution after reading this:

Just go with an official document that shows the name change. Like marriage certificate, sworn affidavits or any other official documents that prove your mom's the same person. Have it in hand just in case.

Your interview will most likely not lead to being asked for documents. They usually stop at "who's sponsoring this trip/what do they do?", confidently answer that question and don't panic. There's a chance you're just worrying over something simple, but it's good to prepare for the worst case too.

In the event you're asked to present your bank statement, have the official documents ready in case of any follow up questions. Or if you are a worrier, you may feel comfortable to place a copy of one official document that shows the name change on the front page of your bank statement.

your i-20 will carry your mom's maiden name as you said, so if any follow up statements carry your last name, it's better to have a backup document that shows she's the same person. You'll most likely not get to that, but if you do, it's not a big deal.

Seek other opinions/advice, please.
Thank you ma'am for breaking it down. I appreciate you loads.

Haven't you got your i-20? Does the bold happen in a Nigerian bank? How did you book interview date without your sevis no?

The school asked for financial statement, d one my mom sent to me bears her maiden name. I told her to change it but she said d bank said it will be ready on 23rd May. This date will be too late for d application so I sent d maiden name but before my visa interview, I will have d one with my father's name on it (d changed one). And d account is a fixed deposit account. I just hope I won't be in trouble at d embassy.

The statement of account that I submitted to the school bears a different name with the one I intend going to the embassy with. It's actually owned by d same person, just that d first is her maiden name. And I have asked d bank to change it as to tally with my surname.

Please I hope my i-20 won't carry d statement I sent to them and also it won't be a problem at the embassy?
