I initially got an assistantship offer and requested an I-20 from the school and proceeded with paying my Sevis and booking a visa appointment,
But then I just got a better assistantship offer from my Dream school.

I have requested for an I-20 from the new school where I got funded.

Plus what do I do next?
Can I change my Sevis No. in the CGI website from the old Sevis number I originally submitted to the one in my new I-20 from my dream school?

And how do I go about it ?

I haven’t submitted my Ds-160 form yet

Please help a brother with steps to take. Thank you in advance!

Most department advise PhD students to finish their program between 4/5years after which they won’t support the student again(please research this)


Finally your answer to who’s sponsoring your trip should have been something different. Maybe say you if you can afford it considering your salary. But your husband’s GTA covers only him and I’m not sure he can even save from it.

I believe the problem here is the length you want to stay in the US with 2kids on a very lean budget. It honestly doesn’t make sense to me.

Before you “give God all the glory”, is it true that you were indeed going for a legitimate conference?

information in the Form DS-160 cannot be changed or amended after the form is electronically submitted....
Although it's true that the State Department does not provide a way to go back and change an already-submitted DS-160, you can go back online to submit a new, corrected DS-160, print the new confirmation page, and bring that to your interview at the consulate or embassy. This may be less work than you think.

I can't really recall which one is which. To get the confirmation page from the DS160, just enter the application number, you'd see an option to print or save it, you don't have to re edit it. And the confirmation page on the visa page, you can print/save/email that to yourself as well.

Create a new DS160 from your old one, enter your old form number and if asked if you want to create another one, say yes(I have forgotten the exact word), then after filling a new form, update your new number on the visa page, print another appointment confirmation page. Ensure this is done at least 3 days to your interview.

You can pay before filling the Ds 160 form, and you can also fill the Ds 160 before paying. But you can't book an appointment without paying.

Honest truth, your chances of funding is very low

1. Evaluate your cgpa to 4.0 using WES free calculator to know where you stand

2. Hit Google and search "lowest out of state tuition in texas" replace texas with every other states you which to study. (since low tuition is your priority)

3. From the search results, go through the school websites and check each school's Admission requirement to see if your cgpa meets the admission criteria. Some schools consider your last 60hours credit (300l and 400l) evaluation incase your first 2 years GPA is bad. While some schools decide by the entire GPA. So checking each of the school portals from your search result in NO.2 will tell you where you belong.


4. Since your proposed course is STEM, most of the schools might need GRE. prepare well to ace it as it will help to compliment your low cgpa during admission decisions.
