omasanbobo: No amount of ram or high end processor would make me choose chinese smartphones over Samsung and iPhones
I miss the times when people would walk into a phone store and just buy either Samsung, iPhone, Nokia or LG not minding the amount of ram/rom the said phone came with
This tech wokeness is disgusting That's your personal opinion/ choice! You sound like those who say they can never use a Toyota, Benz all the way! They will pick a Benz 200 of the 80s over a 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser prado. If you like give a Samsung Galaxy A54 10 years of Andriod updates plus security patch, there's no way it can outperform a proper flagship killer device. |

noobody: How to get back your lost/stolen REDMI(xiaomi) devices.(long read, kindly note,I don't have writing skills also, just trying to pass out information).
This post here is about one of the most underrated features that comes embedded in the MIUI(soon to be hyper os) system. Many OG's like us who have been using Xiaomi devices since the days of Redmi note 3,note 4x,note 5 etc, have previously or at one time uses this feature to locate our devices when it was stolen, better still we use it to lock the device to render it useless to the thieves.
But to many new REDMI(Xiaomi users)who are just joining the family, really do not know the importance of this great feature called mi account.
In other words mi account(similar to the iOS iteration called iCloud)is an account Xiaomi lets you register on all devices running MIUI(using custom ROM won't let you do these)rom,it has basic features like back up to the cloud, also it can store your pictures ,contacts, etc, you can read up more about it,but the main reason for these write up is its ability to locate your stolen/lost devices.
The main point,on how to use mi account to locate your stolen/lost devices.
Firstly you need to be registered on the mi account platform,it's very easy, Go to settings, scroll to the mi account section, ensure your internet is enabled, Sign up for a mi account, using phone number or email(higly recommended should in case you loose access to your SIM). Once you are all done and set up,you are good to go,ensure the account stays active and registered on your device, after wards, scroll to the settings on your mi account and activate the find my device feature for free. Now in the scenario where the unfortunate incident occurs and your device is stolen/lost,look for another internet enabled device, log on to i.mi.com ,your login email and password would be required, once logged in,use the find my device features,it would pin point exactly (to the most precise location,it would even show the exact house, street, etc) the phone is currently located. Now I am sure you are wondering, what If the phone is switched off,or on airplane mode, good question, the device would at the point of going off, store the exact last known location before going off, that is where it would ping at,and the very next time, the device is switched on,it would save that same location and it would show you exactly where it is. Also from the i.mi.com you can activate lost mode, this feature would ensure the thieves don't get access to your device, and also you can drop a SOS message on the lost device feature,in the case the phone is lost,if a good Samaritan finds it,once it switches on,the sos message containing your contact information can be used to contact you to come get your phone. Also on the mi account settings on your device, you have the option to enable your device to send a cordinates of its last known location before it is switched off. Also it is important to note that, once a mi account is active on a device and not signed out, that phone can never be factory reset to be used by another person,as it would always ask for the former details of its previous owner before any other individual can use it.
I hope you all find this piece of information useful. Make I quote this your long post. Dem steal my Mi 9T recently on the second week of December. Na God help me dem for sell the phone as scrap. Even though my bootloader was unlocked and I dont use any form of lock on my phone, the thief suffer to try do factory reset. At last he ended up deleting my files manually . The bad guy know say if e use the phone with internet I go fit track am so he decided to use the phone as a dumb phone, no internet, no sim. By the time he was caught the next day, both my power and volume up buttons were dead because of numerous attempts to try to factory reset. If I had used screen lock on the phone, everything would have been intact. |

fuckboys: Do you stream Netflix and YouTube also in 4k?
Cos there's a different between using an 4k resolution TV but not watching 4k resolution contents on it. Not into Netflix, with YouTube, yes mostly for the fun of it. You are correct to some extent about your statement. This is where upscaling and peocessing power come to play. Midrange tvs upscale better than low end ones and so does flagship tvs over midrange tvs. You see, not all 4k tvs are good for viewing contents. 4k Tvs with good processors and software upscale Full Hd contents to look like 4k contents. I have compared full Hd contents especially at 60fps with 4k contents. Its difficult to tell the difference unless you get uncomfortably close to the tv. Heard of 8k tvs right? They also do same by upscaling 4k contents to 8k since 8k contents are very difficult to find. From comparisons by different reviewers, 4k contents look better on high end 8k tvs than on 4k tvs. |

lakefist: I totally get your point and exactly what I intended to put forward before the ‘know too much’ opinion started popping out.
The original discussion was affordability between getting an outright smart TV or going with TV boxes. Someone asking such a question is defining on a low budget and wanted something smart to enjoy for the moment.
Most of the so-called smart TV brands apart from the well known brands only package normal HD TV with Android TV OS and sell for ridiculous amount.
I have seen it even with the fake LG brand selling on Jumia and Konga.
Instead of getting ripped off it is better to get very good dumb TV and separate TV box with more scalable features. Even with TV box it doesn’t mean it can’t be paired with a smart TV.
The present TV I own is smart but I refused to use the smart feature cos I prefer my TV box. Yeah, it's clearer now. What you said about poor quality smart TVs is very true. These guys know that many if not most Nigerians are not tech savvy so they use any gimmick to sell their trash and make huge profits from us. The new selling point now for them is smart features just like phone manufacturers deceived Nigerians with big ram instead of good processors. Having said that, even with a thin budget, there are good smart TVs to buy instead of going dumb. My eyes are spoiled already, can never go back to full Hd tvs. |

lakefist: I know ur type. I really do. Who told you I can’t afford a projector?
For me not using smart TV cos it’s a rip off doesn’t mean I can’t afford it. Stop spewing trash in the name of giving opinion. No need to fight over this, I believe we all have a thing or two to learn from this topic. Back on track, obviously Tv boxes are the way to go in terms of features. If you check reviews very well, the best 4k Tv for 2023 according to value Electronics king of Tv awards is the Sony A95L. It scored most of its points when all the Tvs were paired to Apple Tv. Native Android apps like YouTube have been proven to look and feel better on Apple Tv and some other Tv boxes compared to the preinstalled apps on smart TVs. But you can't get such amazing experience from Apple Tv when you pair it with some low end or even mid range smart TVs, let alone old fashioned dumb Tvs with mostly HD ready or Full HD displays. To put this into perspective, you expecting to get good picture quality from dumb Tvs is like someone expecting to get same viewing experience when watching YouTube on a 2016 Full HD IPS LCD Android phone and a 2023 QHD Oled Android phone ( like Samsung galaxy J7 prime versus Samsung galaxy S23 ultra). |

ibawon: A lot of people who buy smart TV only see the Netflix and YouTube Logo and they are sold, they don't even use them with internet just DSTV. Once you connect the so called smart TV to the internet, Na there you go know say TV sef dey hang. It depends on the processor on the smart TV in question, same with phones and PCs. |

BrickDevo: Lg, Hisense, Samsung still make non-smart TVs I dont think this is true unless you are talking about monitors. Or maybe they have old stock that they still ship down here to Africa. I have never heard of any announcement from Sony, Samsung, Lg, Panasonic, Hisense, TCL, and other big brands that has to do with non smart tvs for a long time now. From Flagship to entry level tvs, they are all smart tvs. The main issue here is many so called smart tvs here in Nigeria are wack tvs slapped with smart features with very poor picture quality and some other outdated hardwares. Like someone pointed out, some good non Smart tvs are even better especially with picture quality. I have a neighbour whose dumb tv is miles ahead in picture quality to his smart tv. For me, picture quality is what matters the most, and today the tvs with the best picture quality can only be found in certain models of smart tvs from the brands mentioned above. |

tivta: Men, if you can really get a 2k or 4k non Smart TV at 75inchs get it. The hype over smart TV is overrated, instead make sure the TV has HDR, HDMI 2.1 and other un upgradable hard wear features. Smart TV boxes can always upgrade their softwares but most tv manufacturers force you to buy a new TV in other to get a major software update. I dont think there is any 4k Tv that is non smart. |

Sofistcatdmoron: dont listen to lakefist and the rest the best tvs available in the market ar esmart tvs go get a smart tv from sony, panasonic, sharp, dont buy lg because most are fakes is difficult to see original lg smart tv , you can not compare the quality of an old dummy tv that you wann buy with a modern smart tv from sony etc , but if your money is not enough, then you can go with the options of converting a dummy tv using firestick, I was surprised that picture quality was not put into the discussion, that should be the main thing to consider! |

Pains me when I recommend Poco f5 with 12gb ram obviously cheaper than the Redmi note 12 pro plus and offers greater value, and customer would still opt in for the Redmi. One even told me,Poco is plastic body,I mean, when did we start choosing build over performance? I would take a plastic black with aluminium frame any day still. Different stoke! I know of someone who refused to upgrade from Redmi note 4 because newer phones come with glass back . As for me any material for the back nr matter, I go slap case put las las. Now he wants to use another model gen coil for my generator. My generator is sumec spg 3000. The coil he wants to fix is on strange name like Gesco generator. The coil is 3.5kva coil. He's insisting it will fit in and work well. Pls house or experts in the house how true is this. Can it work perfectly? Nothing was wrong with that gen all along. Please, I'm a first time user of xiaomi product, just bought this redmi 9a brand new to use for few months but I don't understand the phone....
It doesn't support Google play service It doesn't have Google playstore The MI app store is written in Chinese The browser is written in Chinese
Like everything is just in Chinese and I don't understand
Does this mean I can't use Google playstore on the phone? Where did you buy it? It's obviously the Chinese version you got. |
