Chief Sir Melie Onyejepu (Ogbuefi), the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Anambra State on Budget/Efficiency/AIRS, who is also the General Manager of the Anambra State Beareu of Public Procurement Agency, was today honoured with the AWARD OF EXCELLENCE by an Apga support group, AFA IGBO BU OFU for his "OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AND EXCEPTIONAL COMMITMENT TO THE GROWTH OF ANAMBRA STATE AND APGA".
The event which took place at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka Anambra State, was witnessed by groups such as SIR MELIE ONYEJEPU FOUNDATION, CHIEF SYDNEY ONYEJEPU FOUNDATION, ALL HANDS ON DECK AND SIR MELIE ONYEJEPU GRASSROOT MOVEMENT.
Presenting the award to Sir Melie, the Leader of AFA IGBO BU OFU, Hon. Onyedika Chukwuma (Acobarry UK), informed the gathering that Ogbuefi Melie Onyejepu apart from being a BOT member of the group, is also one of their major financial supporters since the formation of AIBO.
In his acceptance speech the Anambra public procurement boss, thanked the leadership and the entire members of AIBO for honoring him with the award. Ogbuefi Melie dedicated the award to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency; Chief Dr. Sir Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike Global) citing sustainable developmental indices of the Government which includes Security networking, Infrastructural development, workers welfare and what have you.

The international day for achievers is a day globally set aside on the 24th of March every year to celebrate achievers (men and women) who have made profound impacts in various fields of human endeavors and left legacy on sands of time.

The 100achievers Communication over the years, have organized talk show, with a focus to guide students on career choices and generally inspire them to walk the path of hard work, integrity and vision that leads to success. This year's event took place at St. Anthony of Padua High School, Nkpor, with the aim of catching them young as they pursue their life goals.

The guest speakers- Chief Sir Melie Onyejepu, the General Manager, Anambra State Bureau for Public Procurement Agency. In his speech, admonished the students to be of good behaviour and upright, he also advised the students to be versatile in various fields of life and also try and acquire varieties of skills, this will help them utilize any opportunity presented to them in future.

CSP Rabiu Garba, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Fegge police station Onitsha, (the famous #ENDSARS police officer) laid great emphasis on honesty and testified how being an honest, upright police officer has been beneficial to his career.

Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke, the former Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, expanded the scope of the students in diverse professional fields. She deepened their knowledge in different career choices that are vastly becoming relevant as the world speedily approaches the 4th industrial age.

The students of St. Anthony of Padua high school in their vote of thanks, were full of gratitude, they eulogized the efforts of the 100achievers Team, thanking them immensely for the choice of celebrating the International Day for Achievers in their school. They also appreciated the guest speakers for making out time from their busy schedules to speak and inspire them. Also the principal of the school, Rev. Sister Judith Okafor, who spoke on behalf of the school management, said that the students of the school have learnt a lot in the course of the programme, knowledge that will help them make quality career choices in future. She thanked the organizers- 100achievers Team and particularly the guest speakers who didn’t just share their wealth of knowledge but went further to give out material gift items to the students.

Sir Melie Onyejepu, through his Foundations that were equally represented at the event, pledged to pay WAEC fees for four students of the schools that are financially challenged and further pledged that his Foundations will do more to help the academic growth of the school.
CSP Rabiu Garba, made cash donation for the best student in English and Mathematics, also Ambassador Uche-Ajulu Okeke donated face masks to the school management in order to help in the fight of the Covid-19 pandemic.

ADDRESS BY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE ON THE SECURITY SITUATION IN THE STATE.

I wish to use this moment to update all citizens and residents in Anambra State with the recent happenings in the State and ongoing efforts by Government and security agencies to handle the situation.

Within the past week or so, we have witnessed what obviously is a planned and targeted attack on Security personnel and facilities in the State by armed hoodlums.

So far, Police Officers and Navy personnel on official duties at strategic checkpoints in various locations in the State were sporadically attacked, killed and their firearms taken away. Also, prison and police personnel conveying an inmate to court were equally attacked and killed.

This morning, a Police outpost was attacked unsuccessfully as joint Police,vigilante and Community efforts repelled the attackers.

Anambra State Government categorically condemns these attacks on our security personnel and is doing everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Since these attacks commenced, I have personally coordinated security Commanders in the State with a joint effort to halt this mayhem and by God's, we will surely succeed. The State security Council has met twice and I summoned another emergency meeting this afternoon hence my address.

Let me emphatically state that any attacks on security personnel in Anambra is a direct attack on the State itself and will be resisted with our greatest might. Those who attack us are obviiously intent on distorting the peace and security we have enjoyed in Anambra State in the past seven years and we will not allow that.

We have received massive Police, Army, Navy and DSS deployment since yesterday and they have joined their teams on ground to enforce security.

I have therefore directed all security agencies in the State, the Vigilante Services, all task forces and every structure in the State security infrastructure to rise in defence of our dear state.

I call on all youths in Anambra State, all communities, all market task forces and indeed every outfit in this State to duty.

All traditional rulers, PGs, community leaders as well as every stakeholder in Anambra to rise to protect our State.

As your Governor, I hereby raise the security alert in the State and I commit to restoring order and security immediately.

I call on everybody irrespective of affiliations to come together and support Government and security agencies to fight our common enemy. Those who seek to destroy what we have laboured to build must not be tolerated in any manner. I ask the public to help with information and intelligence to the State to nip this situation in the bud.

Going forward, extensive security activities will be obvious and by God's grace we shall overcome. Fitted Tinted glasses on vehicles as well as covered plate numbers will no longer be allowed on all roads within the State. Security agencies will be conducting special and strategic operations aimed at neutralising the emerging threats to our collective safety.

I therefore ask for the understanding of the public as this goes on and assure you that all law abiding citizens have nothing to worry about.

While I sympathise with the security agencies and families of those killed in these recent attacks, i urge all those involved in ongoing security efforts not to relent. The Police, military and all security agencies and outfits in the State are urged to step out in full boldness to reclaim the public space, dominate the streets, confront criminals when identified and urgently restore order and safety to Anambra State!

CULTISM AND TOUTING.

Ndi Anambra, also saturating the media waves is a horryifying video of the killing and beheading of an alleged cultist by members of a viral cult group. This is most despicable and a terrible act.

I wish to inform Anambra citizens and residents in the State that the Police has arrested three principal suspects and on the heels of their accomplices. They shall all face the full wrath of the law.

I have ordered a clampdown on all cultists and their activities. This state shall no longer tolerate the violence that erupts now and then in the name of cultism. Those who try our will in this regard will have themselves to blame! I urge all youths in the State to shun cultism and embrace meaningful lifestyles.

In the same vein, all kinds of touting in the State in whatever guise especially in Onitsha will no longer be tolerated. Security agencies are hereby directed to arrest anybody hanging on the road with sticks and molesting innocent citizens, drivers etc. The madness must stop.

KIDNAP AND MURDER OF PG OMOR.

I must also inform the public of the recent kidnap of the President General of Omor Community in Ayamelum local govt area and his murder by the kidnappers.

My heart goes out to the family of the late PG and the Omor community in general.

When the incident occurred, Govt in collaboration with the Police and the community youths made sustained efforts to rescue him alive. Unfortunately, his abductors killed him in the forest and fled.

It took efforts by the Police to recover his body after an extensive search exercise.

Let me assure all Omor people that the Government and security agencies are doing everything to apprehend the kidnappers with a few arrests made already. Massive security deployment will also be strategically made along the Ayamelum axis to stop further incursions by criminals.

I therefore urge you to remain calm as we are handling the situation.

Finally, let me restate the call for collective efforts by all Anambra people to defend our State against these recent attacks on security personnel and formations as this is the only solution to forestall criminality.

We cannot allow our security achievements and status as the safest state in Nigeria to be compromised at all.

I urge all Anambra people and residents in the State to come together, support Government and security agencies so that we can fight and win the war.

I assure you all that I am on top of the situation and that we shall very soon surmount this challenge.

At both Ozubulu in Ekwusigo LGA, and Ihiala in Ihiala LGA, Ogbuefi Melie thanked the members of the foundations and groups for their commitments, dedications and sacrifices and urged them not to relent. He also enumerated the activities of the foundation over the years, touching mainly on the story of a boy who was supported for a kidney transplant, saying he was happy that the boy is alive today and in good health. Furthermore, he also mentioned various scholarship schemes instituted for students at tertiary and secondary level of education, which has taken off the burden of tuition fees from so many indigent parents.
He also used the opportunity of the visits to advise the people to be extra vigilant by adhering to all the Covid-19 protocols as directed by the government and the NCDC.

The highlight of the visits was the distribution of various items and cash to over 100 indigents people randomly selected from the 12 wards in Ekwusigo and 20 wards in Ihiala Local Government Areas.
According to Ogbuefi Melie, the gesture is aimed at supporting the various indigent families during this second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Every member of the various groups and foundations went home with a bag of Rice and incentives.

Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Honourable Ifeatu Obiokoye, has warned all gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to shun all manner of vulgar language and sarcastic statements against one another.

Obiokoye gave the warning in a nine-point press release signed by him and made available to the Pres.
He emphasized that henceforth the party will not tolerate any aspirant casting aspersions on another; that they should sell their manifestoes telling the people what they would do differently to take Anambra state to the next level of development.
The governor’s political adviser said about three aspirants have so far declared their intentions to run for the office of the governor on the platform of APGA but of utmost concern is the derogatory comments coming from one or two of them against each other.

He said the party has its constitution as well as sets code of conduct for every member and that one fundamental aspect of the code of conduct is that no member of the party will tarnish the image of the party nor bring any member to public ridicule.

Obiokoye reiterated that any aspirant attempting to demarket another aspirant will be disqualified from the primaries, stressing that an aspirant can be disqualified at the screening level if he has in the course of his campaigns put the party under ridicule and unnecessary blackmail.

He said the primary election will be an election for delegates and that aspirants should rather concentrate on those who will be delegates than trying to pull their fellow aspirants down.

Obiokoye’s press release reads, “The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) wishes to bring to the notice of all governorship aspirants for the November 6, 2021 poll that henceforth the party will not condone nor tolerate any form of innuendoes nor sarcastic comments against co-aspirants.

“The party is however disenchanted with the way and manner in which some of the aspirants are piloting their electioneering campaigns: thus rather than sell their manifestoes to the people as to what they can do for Anambra, they decided to do the contrary.

“The All Progressives Grand Alliance is not reputed for brigandage nor casting aspersions on individuals but known for its internal democracy, ordinate party ideology as well as ensures a transparent process for all aspirants on its platform.

“APGA has continued to maintain its good governance mantra for the past 16 years ensuring that democracy dividends trickle down to the remotest parts of the hinterlands in the state. Ndi-Anambra no longer wish to return to the dark days of misrule and maladministration by political parties who plunged the state into the abyss.

“APGA is not known for destruction and vandalisation of public properties. It is equally not associated with political hanky panky and double-crossing but operates on the principle of equity and fair play.

“The APGA-led state government under Governor Willie Obiano has given the party a facelift such that APGA is on the lips of every onye-Anambra and it would be difficult for the opposition to uproot APGA.

“So rather than vilify one another, it is of paramount importance to state unequivocally that all aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance should concentrate their campaigns on what they will do differently to take Anambra State to the next level of development and growth.

“The forthcoming November 6 governorship election is a must-win for APGA; this should be uppermost in the minds of every aspirant. As it is often said, in every contest there is a winner and a loser as well. As the party promises a free, fair, transparent and credible primary election, anyone who eventually clinches the party’s ticket, should bear in mind that APGA is the party to beat.

VALENTINE: The Love We Need Now

It is another season of love. The feel of love is in the air as the world marks yet another Valentine which is celebrated every 14th of February. Unfortunately, we talk about love without living the life of love. It becomes pertinent that we enjoin one another about the essence of the celebration and be guided by the tenets of what Valentine stands for.

Valentine ’s Day and the story of its Patron Saint is rooted in true love, service and sacrifice which the world desperately needs at this time. In our world today, Love would appear to have become a scarce commodity. Our collective attitude portrays a generation that is beginning to be strange to love. Our religion and politics are devoid of love and this has permeated every facet of our national life. The spirit of communalism for which our ancestors were known is dead and in its stead, fierce individualism has sprouted and flourished. Sayings and proverbs that are rooted in the welfare of our neighbors are rife. According to Achebe, the reason for moon plays isn’t because people can’t sight the moon from their houses, but for the deepening of human relations. Our ancestors were wise. They recognized the interconnectedness of our lives. They realized that whatever affects one affects all, that we are all tied down in one single garment of destiny. Because of the communal lifestyle, grief was shared and it was made bearable. Joy was shared and it became doubled. Everybody looked out for everybody.

Unfortunately, rapid urbanization led to the rise of individualism and the bustle of city life. Neighbours became strangers. Brothers became distant. Suicide cases which used to be rare occurrences became a daily affair. Cases of loneliness and depression are on the rise because people do not reach out for help anymore. Individuals are left to carry their burden alone and many snap under intense pressure.

The dire economic situation and financial obligations worsens an already bad situation as people joggle jobs and devote lesser time for human interaction, even in their homes. Frustration is everywhere and people’s emotions seem to be perpetually on a short fuse. Certain societal construct that used to provide psychological fillip for people like age grades, town unions, old boys association and extended family systems are gradually fading away.

We are all sad. The world is sad. We all are moving warfare. At the slightest provocation, people explode like a nuclear warhead. Domestic violence has taken a dangerous dimension. The spirit of tolerance has taken flight. Gory happenings now make daily headlines. Children are now sending their parents to early grave and as if that is not enough, husbands now kill their wives over flimsy issues. Even security men take the lives of principals they are charged to protect.

Despite these challenges, this Valentine presents us with an opportunity to heal our world. Problems are part of the human nature. But love will make us overcome. Adapting that beautiful prayer by St Francis of Assisi, may we be an instrument of peace, paying hatred with love, never judging where there is injury and showing light where there is darkness. Only love can heal the world because love is enough.
