CrimeAnambra State Govt Reacts To The Conflict Between Two Neighboring Communities by grassrootsig(op): 2:32pm On May 07, 2020
Anambra State government reacts to the conflict between two neighboring communities.

By Bona Ogbonna

The Conflict between the People of Umumbu and Omor Communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area.

1. The Anambra State Government notes with profound sadness the conflict between the people of Umumbo and their neighbours in Omor community, Ayamelum Local Government Area, over land ownership which has in the last two days resulted in one confirmed fatality and the destruction of valuable assets in both places. Security agents drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps have since been drafted to the scene to stabilize the situation and maintain law and order.

2. This conflict is a negation of the strenuous effort the government and people of Anambra State have been making in the past six years to make Anambra not only the safest and most secure state in the federation but also the most socially harmonious.

3. Given that the state government considers the safety of the life and property of every Anambra person an article of faith, those responsible for the violence between the Omor and Umumbo communities will be made to feel the full weight of the law accordingly. The security agencies, including the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), are hereby directed to arrest everyone involved in the conflict and bring him or her to justice. The arrests and subsequent prosecution in the law court will be made regardless of the status of each person in society.

4. The arrest and prosecution of those connected with the Umumbo-Omor crisis will serve as a lesson to other people who may wish to fan the embers of disunity and crisis in any other part of the state. The utterances and actions of these elements are inimical to the state government’s drive towards the rapid economic and social development of the state.

5. The Anambra State Government assures all ndi Anambra of its unwavering resolve to make our state the most peaceful in Nigeria and beyond. Though the Umumbo-Omor conflict is an isolated incident, it will attract a robust response from the government. No person can shed the blood of any Anambra person and expect to go scot-free because life is sacred. Anambra State must remain the Light of the Nation.

Nairaland GeneralAnambra State First Lady And Her Passion To Give Back To The Society by grassrootsig(op): 7:45am On May 07, 2020
Anambra State first lady, chief Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, osodieme global and her passion.

By Bona Ogbonna

When Osodieme prayed to be blessed with success, she was propelled by the passion to give back to the society.

What Osodieme is doing today can be classified as the fruit of her burning desire and passion to do the things that pleases God and that is touching lives positively in our society.

Osodieme is not selfish and has proved that beyond every reasonable doubt.

She believes in the assertion that there is love in sharing.

During the commissioning of the two houses she built for indigent widows, Osodieme made an interesting revelation in her speech at the occasion.

The revelation she made has to do with the propelling force and genesis of her acts of philanthropy.

She revealed that when she was searching for a job at NNPC as a young woman, she prayed to God with a contrite heart and pleaded God to help her get that job with a promise that if she succeeds in getting the job that she will not eat her salary alone rather she will be using part of her salary to help the needy.

Do you know why Osodieme prayed to God with an open heart, she prayed because God is her only hope meaning that she doesn't have any godfather as at that time.

Another thing is that she is a well trained virtuous woman that doesn't want to soil her dignity like some women of nowadays.

She put all her hope and trust in God believing that God will give her the NNPC job and that if she actualise the miracle, she will remember the needy.

From this story, you will agree with me that even when Osodieme is in dire need of a job, she has started thinking of helping those that she is better than.

God seeing her natural kind heart, blessed her with that NNPC job, when she secured the job, she fulfilled her promise of using part of her salary to help the needy and that opened her door of divine blessing so wide to the extent that the divine blessing of God started falling like rain upon her till date.

God crowned Osodieme blessing with the gift of a loving and caring man as husband and that is Governor Obiano.

Osodieme Calls for Self Discipline as She Hands over Free House to two Widows

By Bona Ogbonna

The wife of the Governor of Anambra State and founder of the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), an NGO, Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has called for observance of self-discipline and compliance to Covid-19 protocols in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in our communities.

Osodieme said that the advent of Coronavirus has changed our world drastically and the new rule is, 'If want to stay alive, stay at home!'

In her words:

"Since this pandemic started, we have all been rooted to our homes. Unfortunately, there are some of our sisters who cannot stay comfortably because they have no roof over their heads. This is why I decided to come out today to ensure that our sisters stay at home and stay safe by handing the keys to two new 2-Bedroom bungalows built free by my NGO, CAFE."

She went further to counsel the people of Akwaihedi and Igboukwu to "be disciplined and responsible by observing basic hygiene and social distancing. This Coronavirus disease is real and can kill if you don't do simple things like: Using face mask when leaving your house, washing hands with soap regularly, using sanitizers and avoiding crowded places."

Mrs. Obiano promised that the houses will be furnished with necessary household furniture and television within the week to ensure the comfort of the beneficiaries. She called on everyone to learn to help others who are less privileged especially at this time.

"Don't wait till you can make it big, do what you can now to help others; no matter how little. You are also encouraged to support what we are doing by donating to CAFE and we will acknowledge your support," Osodieme enjoined the people.

Speaking at the event, Member Representing Nnewi South II Constituency, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Johnbosco Akaegbobi, commended the Wife of the Governor and her NGO for remembering an indigent widow in Akwaihedi with a new house at a most ideal time. He said, "We are indeed grateful to you and also to your husband, our Governor who gives you all the support to touch lives."

In the same vein, Member Representing Aguata Constituency in Anambra State House, Hon Okey Okoye, prayed for Osodieme : "God who gave you the grace to turn this widow's place in Igboukwu from a dilapidated state to brand new house will continue to bless and keep you and your husband in Jesus name."

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, conveyed the greetings of the women and children of Akwaihedi and Igboukwu to the Wife of the Governor for braving the threat of Coronavirus to make the house handover possible for the two widows possible.

Earlier, the Transition Committeee Chairman Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon Chieloka Okoye, thanked Mrs. Obiano for building a house for a widow in the Council Area. Equally his Aguata counterpart, Hon Eche Ezeibe, said they were indeed proud of all Osodieme's charitable programmes and are praying fervently that God will keep her and her husband, Akpokuedike, healthy to continue to work for the good of ndi Anambra.

Beneficiaries Mrs Ifeoma Ogbuanukwu of Umunwehi Village, Akwaihedi and Mrs Monica Okeke of Ezihu village Igboukwu thanked Osodieme for the best gift ever and prayed that God will also bless her and her family. The houses are amongst the twenty-seven built and now handed over to the beneficiaries by CAFE. Another one in Ozubulu will be commissioned and handed over at a later date.

100-Foot Road Nnewi Erosion Control Project.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 30, 2019, I received the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie M. Obiano (Akpokodike) who inspected the ongoing 100-Foot Road Nnewi Erosion Control Project.

100-Foot Road Nnewi was one of the major entrance to Nkwo Nnewi, a market that have an annual turnover of $1billion, before it was seriously affected by erosion which swallowed the road, residential and commercial buildings. While it may be a surprise to many, the erosion started way-back in the 1970s and only got worsened last year.

The visit of His Excellency, which was primarily to ascertain the pace of work, afforded me the opportunity to express my appreciation to the Governor for acting promptly by engaging the services of an International Reputable Construction Company, Infrastructure Development Company (IDC), for the reclamation of 100-Foot Road Nnewi Erosion Site.

It will be recalled that one of the first motion I moved after I was sworn in as the Lawmaker representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, was the motion in which I raised alarm on the erosion which has cut-off 100-Foot Road and is posing a serious threat to Nkwo Nnewi Market.

With the involvement of other stakeholders, we reached out to His Excellency, in our different capacities calling for his timely intervention to save our town from the devastating effect of the erosion. The Governor being proactive, despite the pressure on the state budget, awarded the contract for the control and reclamation of the erosion.

The ongoing construction works on the Storm Water Diversion Deep Channel on the Fifty (50) Feet Deep 100-Foot Road Gully Erosion, Uruagu Nnewi, will bring lasting solutions to the problems of erosion menace in the area.

The project which will cost N4bn has succeeded in almost reclaiming the gully through the importation of laterite and compaction with careful channelization of the stormwater in a number of drains.

While we commend our Governor for this great effort, it is time for us to open discussion on the need for community participation in the management and protection of the environment from erosion.

Erosion does not just develop overnight, there are processes leading to them and this can be averted at the community level.

Although some gullies are caused by natural cracks in the earth and nature of our soil, most gully erosions in Anambra State are unnatural and can be averted. Most of the causes of erosions are traceable to bad management practices such as roads without proper drainage or catchments pits, blocking drainage channels with refuse, deforestation, unsustainable farming and mining of sand.

It is time for us to create institutions and implement policies that will guarantee a sustainable environment.

Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor,
Member Representing,
Nnewi North Constituency,
Anambra State House of Assembly.

Nairaland GeneralCOVID-19, Gov. Willie Obiano Updates The People Of Anambra State by grassrootsig(op): 9:09pm On May 01, 2020
A Special Broadcast on Covid-19 by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano on Friday, May 1, 2020.

1. Ndi Anambra, ekenem unu.

2. I am here to address you on our fight against Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Anambra State.
As you are aware, our beloved state has been on lockdown in the past five weeks. Ndi Anambra, we have fought the good fight, we have subjected ourselves to extreme inconveniences and now, we must begin the return journey to normal life again.

3. Community Active Search

4. Ndi Anambra, the question at the moment is where do we go from here? Well, I am delighted to announce that so far, we have conducted 72 tests on samples out of which one only returned positive. And that one was the Index Case who has been treated and discharged. So, at this moment, there is no active Covid-19 case in Anambra State. As a result of this, our next battle front with Covid-19 is to mount an active search for people with Covid-19 symptoms in all communities in Anambra State. The NCDC, WHO and UNICEF have assured us of their support to ensure the success of this effort. So, I implore you to cooperate with our specially trained Covid-19 team when they visit your community by giving useful information that will help them to get the necessary samples for testing.

5. Ndi Anambra, it has been repeatedly proven that Covid-19 is not a death sentence. And we have a team of competent medical professionals who can manage the case to success. We also have the necessary equipment and medication that will enhance chances of success.

6. Removing the Lockdown

7. Ndi Anambra, encouraged by the absence of any active Covid-19 case in our dear state, we are emboldened to take a few careful steps to return Anambra to normalcy. Here are the immediate steps we shall take to achieve that:

8. Burials and Funerals:

9. Ndi Anambra, the recent lockdown had halted burials in Anambra State and has therefore put some pressure on our facilities in the state. I therefore urge you to bury your loved ones but with strict compliance to the Covid-19 protocols. There should be no fanfare and attendance should not be more than 30 family members.

10. Similarly, people bringing the remains of their loved ones for burial in Anambra State must ensure that the corpses are buried on the same day of arrival into the state. As a matter of fact, the grave must be ready before the corpse arrives at the boundary of Anambra State. Let me quickly add that the relatives of the deceased who accompanied the corpse home must also proceed on 14 days of self-isolation.

11. The Civil Service and Schools

12. All civil servants including teachers of primary, secondary and tertiary schools in Anambra State shall resume work on Monday, May 4, 2020. Arrangements are on-going to ensure that the teachers undergo a comprehensive Covid-19 training in readiness for the eventual opening of schools at the right time.

13. Re-opening of Markets

14. Following the successful completion of Covid-19 Training for all the market leaders in Anambra State, all markets in Anambra State shall re-open on Monday May 4, 2020. The market leaders must ensure that their friends and colleagues as well as customers comply with the standard protocols of Covid-19 once the markets re-open.

15. Our Boundaries Remain Closed

16. All our boundaries with neighbouring states remain completely closed. Only people on essential services and haulage trucks with essential commodities are allowed passage after a thorough check and confirmation by the security personnel at the boundaries. We are working very hard to seal off all bush paths that are being exploited by unscrupulous transporters to the detriment of our beloved state.

17. Testing Centers

18. Ndi Anambra, I am delighted to inform you that we have set up two potential Covid-19 Testing Centers in our dear state. We urge the management of NCDC to expedite action on the accreditation and approval process to ensure the immediate use of the facilities for the benefit of our people.

19. Conclusion

20. Umu nnem, in easing our dear state back to normal life, we are hopeful that we have adequately been sensitized on what we must do to protect our lives, the lives of our dear ones and neighbours as well as our communities. We are also optimistic that we shall demonstrate as much commitment in fighting together to protect our state from the corrosive impact of Covid-19 as we did all through the lockdown period. I also wish to inform you that the federal government shall announce a nationwide curfew from Monday, May 4, 2020 to halt the community spread of Covid-19 across Nigeria. The curfew is expected to start at 8pm and end at 6am. I urge you to comply with this directive as enforcement shall be conducted to the letter. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
Thank you!

God bless Anambra State
God bless Nigeria

Assurance001:
Just wondering what the teachers will be doing in school when pupils and students are still at home following on air teaching.
Have you forgotten that almost all the schools have finished their second term examinations that will lead to Easter vacation before this Pandemic forced them into lockdown.
Now, the teachers will mark and compute the second term results.
They will have enough time to prepare their lessons notes for the third term school session. Remember also that the staff rooms will need cleaning and washing.
The teachers are not complaining though.
