The President, Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, has advised the Nigerian government to deduct N200billion from the N4trillion set aside for fuel subsidy. Osodeke, in an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday morning, said the government had addressed the issue of fuel subsidy with a budget of N4trillion while it ignored the addressing issues of its university education. The ASUU President advised that if the government took only N200billion from the N4trillion budget to address the challenges of its members; it would still have a whopping N3.8trillion. He further called on the Nigerian government to prioritise education to fuel subsidy, adding that the Nigerian academic could provide all the solutions needed to boost the country. He argued that it took Nigerian universities only three months to locally produce University Transparent and Accountability Solution (UTAS) which performed at 97.3 percent to replace the foreign Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS). He said while huge resources were paid for IPPIS, such funds would have served the Nigerian universities and challenged the government to always task the Nigerian universities for solutions to identified challenges. Osodeke said, “It is always very funny, that the government who cannot raise N200billion to revamp all Nigeria universities annually, to world standards. The same government can raise N4trillion for fuel subsidies. Fuel subsidy and Nigerian education; which is more important to any country that wants to move forward? “You can raise a budget to make N4trillion for subsidies a year, but you cannot raise N200billion to fund your education where you don’t have the infrastructure. You can spend N228billion to feed children in primary or secondary schools. But you cannot raise this fund for your university; it is an issue of priority. That is the problem. “If you remove N200billion from N4trillion, to fund your universities, you still have N3.8trillion for fuel subsidy.” http://saharareporters.com/2022/04/20/give-us-n200billion-n4trillion-fuel-subsidy-end-ongoing-strike-%E2%80%93-university-lecturers Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J, Obinoscopy |
Prospective pilgrims to Saudi Arabia from Nigeria would most likely pay more this year because of the deteriorating value of the naira. According to Daily Trust, there is anxiety among stakeholders and intending pilgrims over the 2022 hajj as about 150,000 pilgrims may compete for about 45,000 slots, being the expected seat allocation by the Saudi Arabian authorities for Nigeria. There was no hajj in 2020 and 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic, which ravaged the world with several countries locking down to contain the spread of the virus. Therefore, some of the thousands of intending pilgrims who paid for the spiritual journey in 2020 and 2021 said they hope to perform the hajj exercise this year in addition to those hoping to pay also. Respite came the way of many Muslims, especially intending pilgrims around the world when the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced about 10 days ago that one million pilgrims would perform the 2022 Hajj, out of which 85 per cent would be alocated to external pilgrims while the remaining percentage would be for Saudi residents. The one million is 50 per cent less than the usual figure of two million pilgrims that performed the exercise pre-COVID – 19. Pre-COVID, Nigeria used to get 95,000 slots for both states and the private hajj operators. But with the reduction in the number by Saudi authorities, stakeholders say the slots would be 50 per cent or less than the usual 95,000 slots implying that Nigeria might get between 45,000 or 50,000 slots for both states and the private tour operators. It would be recalled that about 65,000 performed the exercise in 2019 comprising 45,450 for states and 20,000 for the private tour operators. With the 65,000 benchmark, stakeholders envisage a backlog of 130,000 intending pilgrims or more to jostle for the slots being expected from Saudi Arabia. It was also learnt that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is planning towards 50,000 or less as most countries are doing because of the reduced slots from Saudi. Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam, which every Muslim with the financial wherewithal is required to perform at least once in his lifetime. Findings revealed that many intending pilgrims have been contacting both the state pilgrims’ welfare boards and the tour operators over the 2022 hajj without getting concrete information on the modalities. The hajj fare in 2019 was around N1.5million, which is the current price of Umrah (lesser Hajj). At that time, the official exchange rate was N306 to a dollar but now the official rate is N416 and N580/N585 in the black market. Also, it was learnt that many Umrah pilgrims paid as much as N500,000 for visas when it used to be N250,000. Also, the cost of air ticket is going to be high considering that many airlines have recently hiked the fare in the domestic markets due to the high cost of aviation fuel known as Jet A1 and the general increase in operational cost. The cost of airfare alone in 2019 was $1,650 for the southern part of Nigeria; $1,600 for the North and $1,550 for Maiduguri. But this year, it could be between $2,500 (N1.04m) to $3,000 (N1.2m). Also, while the N270,000 was exchanged to get a BTA of $850, about N353,600 would be required this time around to get the same $850 at the official exchange rate of 416/$. http://saharareporters.com/2022/04/20/hajj-2022-nigerian-prospective-pilgrims-pay-more-naira-tumbles |
Leader of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that presidential aspirants from the South-West geopolitical zone including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, should forget their presidential ambitions. He said it was the turn of the South-East to produce Nigeria’s next President after the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in May 2023. The elder statesman made his position known in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday. According to him, it is an injustice for a South-West President to emerge in 2023 after ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from Ogun State had ruled from 1999 to 2007; while Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, also from Ogun State, has been in government since May 2015 and would have spent eight years in power by May 2023. The 94-year old elder statesman added that the South-South zone has also had a shot at both President and Vice-President positions with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan between 2007 and 2010 (as VP) and from 2010 to 2015 (as President). Adebanjo, however, said for Nigeria to have another President, the country must first be secured. The nonagenarian said, “Right now, is there a country for them to be President? There must be one country first before you can talk of an election. Is this the country Jonathan handed over to Buhari? Whether a Southern or a Northern candidate, let us unite everyone. We can’t get everyone united until we change this constitution. 'Are you safe? Talk about security. How am I sure that I won’t be shocked when I go to the police station, when electoral officers, soldiers, and policemen are being shot dead and I can’t travel to Maiduguri safely? "All those who are clamouring for Presidency, be it Jagaban (Tinubu) or Osinbajo, they should assure us of our safety first, that the country is safe, that we are one, then we talk of who is going to be President. They should forget about their ambitions now until there is safety. Nobody can go to the South-East now, and we are all living in denial.” Asked if he was supporting Tinubu, Osinbajo, or any President from the South-West, the Afenifere leader said, “How can I back a South-West candidate? That is not equity. Has Obasanjo not done so for eight years?Has Osinbajo not done eight years as VP? Has Jonathan not done five years as President? Is the South-East not part of Nigeria?“We want peace and equity. It is the turn of the South-East. I don’t talk ambiguously. It is the South-East that the thing must go; there is no doubt about that but my anxiety now is that before we say, South-East, have we got a country? Let us settle that before we say the South-East is the answer. I am not ambivalent about it at all.” He is entitled to his opinion, say VP, ex-Lagos gov’s camps Pro-Tinubu and pro-Osinbajo groups have however expressed their disagreements with the statement made by the Afenifere leader. The chairman of the pro-Tinubu group, South West Agenda 2023 group, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, during a telephone interview with The PUNCH, said the rotation principle of the presidency is between the North and South of the country. He said, “Chief Adebanjo is our leader and a man I respect. He is now in his 90s and has paid his own dues; we are their followers and we are also entitled to our own views and our view is that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should go ahead and contest the presidency. “The rotation principle in Nigeria is between the North and the South and whenever it rotates to any of the regions, whether South or North, every of the geopolitical zones in that region are free to contest the presidency. Now, it is the turn of the South and we absolutely believe that anybody in the South, including those from the South-West, are free to throw their hats into the ring and challenge for the presidency." “This is exactly what Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing and he is enjoying tremendous support not only in the South-West which is his own base, but throughout the entire length and breadth, nook and cranny of Nigeria and therefore,no person will sit in one corner and say Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should forget his presidential ambition. Certainly, he will contest for the presidency." The Convener, Progressive Lawyers for Osinbajo, Dr Kayode Ajulo, explained to The PUNCH that the opinion of Adebanjo does not indicate the position of the Afenifere group. He said, “The Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not about making emotive statements. I know that if Afenifere wants to say anything, it has to be decided on. Afenifere is not a conclave of what people don’t know what is being done there. The way we have been doing it is that the issue would be deliberated upon by Afenifere and there would be a communique collectively passed. I ask, where is the communiqué of Afenifere saying this? “For some time now, I have not seen such things from Afenifere. I have not received any notification to this effect and no one else has confirmed receiving any invitation. Baba Adebanjo is entitled to his opinion. But where is Baba Reuben Fasoranti? Where is Baba Sehinde Arogbofa? Where is Chief Sola Ebiseni? Where is Olu Falae’s opinion on this issue? This is not an issue that only one person will just make a sweeping remark. Where did these men deliberate on this issue? “I am worried that it is being termed Afenifere’s position. Afenifere has procedures, ways and manners such an issue is to be discussed. As it is, I see more of Chief Ayo Adebanjo’s personal opinion which he is entitled to, but please it is clear how the President of Nigerians should emerge.” Mynd44 Lalasticlala https://punchng.com/drop-your-presidential-bids-afenifere-leader-tells-tinubu-osinbajo/ |

In yet another gaffe, presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu said Nigerians like “tweeting on WhatsApp,” a comment suggesting the former Lagos governor could not distinguish between WhatsApp and Twitter, two dominant social media platforms. Mr Tinubu, during a campaign event at Onikan Stadium on Sunday, decried how Nigeria has not been able to harness its full potential in the area of modern technology, saying he would fix the problem if elected. “Do you know how many of you tweeting on WhatsApp right now? [intelligible] holds a database of 1.6 billion on WhatsApp alone.” Mr Tinubu, however, failed to correct himself and specify that WhatsApp is a messaging platform owned by Facebook and its estimated users stand at two billion as of the end of 2021, the largest worldwide. On the other hand, Twitter is a microblogging platform used by politicians, journalists, businesses, and everyday citizens to comment on emerging issues and causes. Mr Tinubu’s mixture of both platforms marks another instance of his embarrassing public statements, which experts said could be a sign of mental health challenges. The 70-year-old politician said last year that the Nigerian military should recruit 50 million youths to fight unemployment, a statement his handlers later walked back. Earlier this year, he was caught on camera appearing to urinate on his body. He also said the permanent voter cards have an expiry date, contrary to public knowledge and the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Mt Tinubu’s age has been a subject of public controversy as some politicians who have known him for decades past insist he should be in his 80s and not 70s as he’s officially claiming. He, however, maintained that he’s in good health and can govern 200 million Nigerians successfully if elected, with his supporters often pointing to President Muhammadu Buhari, who assumed office and spent months in hospital, as an indication of what’s possible. https://gazettengr.com/nigerians-like-tweeting-on-whatsapp-tinubu/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost Mynd44 Lalasticlala |
Thank goodness no decent legal practitioner would ever appear before a judge and make this type of monumentally moronic argument. A solitary 10 year old JSS1 girl in a room full of 13 year old SS1 boys, who is performing sex acts on them while they film her and make derogatory remarks is a willing participant. Because the gist of your imbecilic, rambling and incoherent argument is that this is typical behaviour for a 10 year old girl, isn't it? You were probably one of the numerous idiots who were loudly proclaiming their support for Baba Ijesha when he was caught pants down on a live video feed as he attempted to rape a 14 year old girl. At least now I know why Nigerians are ranked as one of the lowest IQ countries in the world. R.Kelly would probably be a free man if he was a Nigerian. Acidosis: |
Look at this deluded, semi illiterate who can't even express himself coherently. Male children are considered capable of rape under Nigerian law. The difference between a sexual assault by an adult man and a male child is that unlike the adult man, the male child will not go to prison if he is tried and found guilty. He will be sent to what is called a borstal home which is an institution for reforming children with criminal records. AyomideOG01: |
A male child can still be convicted of raping or sexually assaulting a female child because under Nigerian Law, only males are considered to be capable of rape. Why is this simple fact so hard to understand? Are all Nigerians morons? crazymommy: |
So a single 10 year old girl performing sexual acts in a room full of boys is only possible because the the girl raped the boys? Please keep this brand of stupidity to yourself or share it with your fellow dimwits on NL. Alexgeneration: |

Stop making your stupidity more and more evident! Chrisland is a full boarding school which means that the children spend more time living amongst each other than they do with their parents. The President of Rice Millers Association of Nigeria (RIMAN) Peter Dama has said that the lingering insecurity across the country which has made it impossible for some farmers to access their farms, has left millers without paddy to mill. He said there are situations where after planting, farmers who were able to access their farms would discover that the bandits have harvested their rice and taken them away. Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, Dama said climatic conditions such as drought is also affection rice production in some parts of the country “You find out that people are being chased out of their farms, or they go to their farms and find out that vandals or bandits have harvested their crops and taken them away. Insecurity is a very big challenge and it is affecting production in terms of cultivation." “Secondly, the rains are not just there, a lot of the rivers or places people use for planting rice are dried up, that is not within our control, you give somebody a farm, he digs a borehole and there is no water, these are natural things affecting production”, he said. Furthermore, he said poor power supply and vandalization of power infrastructure in the factories and high cost of diesel have left miller frustrated. “For production, power is very essential, because in a factory or production area, you need to have power. In Spite of the difficulties that power distribution companies are having, there are some Nigerians that are so terrible that they go to vandalize power infrastructure. “Government is trying to provide for you to be able to process and mill rice, at the end of the day, you go to your factory to find out that your armoured cables have been vandalised, that is a problem. “A lot of millers depend on generators because of the failure in the provision of energy, but these generating sets don’t use water, they use diesel and petrol, but the price of diesel has skyrocketed, and it is a problem. He said Nigerian miller and rice processors are doing their best in such a way that in spite of the challenges , they still continue production. “Do not expect millers or processors to be the people that subsidise consumption for this country, it is expected that with the difficulties we are passing through, we should be able to make little profits. The sac bag used to cost maybe N1000, but currently, it has gone up to between N3000 to N5000 per sac bag. https://tribuneonlineng.com/insecurity-erratic-power-bane-of-rice-production-in-nigeria-%e2%80%95-riman/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

And your defense of the sexual exploitation of a 10 year old makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Like I have always said, Nigerians are amongst the lowest IQ people on the planet. AntiChristian:I'm surprised that a follower of the dimwit uneducated illiterate who believes that the sun sets in a pool of water is asking me to think. Why are you worried about Jesus being an intermediary in Christendom? That is our doctrine and it is based on the Trinity. Only a Divine Intermediary can mediate on behalf of God's Elect (The Church) Perhaps you should concern yourself with prophet Sex Award Winner (SAW) and the partnership of obedience he enjoys with allah! ![]() Or have you forgotten that allah and Sex Award Winner (SAW) are partners in obedience? Muslims are equating allah's knowledge with muhammad's knowledge. That's why they say: "Allah and his apostle ﷺ know best" If muslims truly believe that nobody else is equal to allah they would have just said: "Allah knows best", without including muhammad. mhmsadyq: |
AntiChristian:Haba AntiChristian, this again! Why do you and allah keep running away from the challenge I have set for you and allah on this issue? I have told you that no Christian will ever dispute Numbers 31:40 on the grounds that female refugees from the Midianites and Moabites were taken into custody. However the question which you keep dodging is, where is sex or sexual intercourse mentioned in that verse? This should be very easy for you to answer, after all you have the example set by allah himself when he revealed a koranic verse which allows mûdslîmé men to rape married women in front of their husbands: That's the definition of sex award winner. No, the definition of a Sex Award Winner (SAW) is someone who awards sex to his followers as a reward for serving him as mindless slaves. This is the perfect example of a Sex Award Winner: The context is intermediary in request! An intermediary essentially means an intercessor or a go between.
