An extra marital affairs is never a mutual bargain especially for the females except through marriage. The simple biology of menopause for women and a lifetime of production for men clearly emphasizes this. So there has to be a practical way to curtail this sin. And thank God Islam provides an effective one.

So after sponsoring of protests has failed, the next step is to resort to direct brute force and violence. Is the U.S. not looking for its own downfall like this?

That waiting period is called IDDAH

About being abominable, well, Islam lets cousins know their blood have separated. Without this separation, a lot of things go on among cousins even in societies where they have been taught that they are brothers and sisters. Islam lets you know that the attraction is there between them and so the prohibition for their close companies.
Some of the scholars try to explain that under this scenario it is permitted, but hey, the stronger opinion is that it is haram by default.
