The food is so poor

Yes just shortly after I saw the article on Binggo puppy which is 100% true. Even my puppy farts alot and poo a black stinking poo.

Now, I purchased a new sack of binggo and it has changed. It's not as oily and smelly even their poo isn't black and smelly again but what's new:

- Vomiting! My puppy has been vomiting this NEW binggo ever since i got it.

I think the UAC guys should quit the dog food please before they kill our boys and girls.

Not all first time dog owners will fail at raising a CO or Rott, or BB as always believed. It's bores down to research and sound preparation. If he knows what he's doing, he will be just fine. Let's push the stereotyping aside. Some "experienced" dog owners will fail in raising a CO. And a dog is as good as he's trained.

Kind of true. Since he says he is ready then there is no problem. But the truth is,

Handling a dog for someone for 2 weeks is different from handling your own dog for life! So he may have some experience handling other dogs but for how long? Has he OWNED a dog before? How is his income and expenditure like? The CO won't be eating rice and beans you know.

That is why I recommended the GSD for him as it's best for first time owners not handlers. You can be a dog handler for years and never an owner. A owner is very different.

i would never in my life go for a gsd. gsd that i had seen for almost free of chare. caucasian is my choice and no going back. a guy was dissappointed when he left his boerboer for me, only to come back after two weeks to see wonder. he was amazed to see how well i treated the dog. within two weeks he went for an occassion, he was scared because i never handle a foreign dog but to his greatest surprise, he was amazed. see, i know what i am capable of. my love for dogs is immeasurable and i can handle any dog. if not for the fact that, i spent much on the cage (very capacious and its double) , i would have bought the caucasian. i would definately come here to introduce him/her to you when i get it. just a little time now.

Lol what is your beef with the GSD? It's a fantastic breed and loved by many. The one you got almost free of charge couldn't have been local german. They are many in ibadan. 5k only

Last year in abuja..i was walking my boerboel ,local Hausa hunters with their plenty dogs were telling me to release my dogs to fight. My dog was charging too.. I just carry okada with my dog. He was 2 years old then. What do they know?..illiterate and ignorant people.

This same 5 months old comes from a litter of mad dogs. You need to see his father. big and mad. They attack first and ask questions later. So i know my dog but that isn't the topic of discussion. Read the article again. Its completely different

I think he should start with a Gsd, that amount can get him a good straightback german shepherd. Good quality Caucasians cannot go for that price unless it's from a puppy mill

In Ibadan, a pure straighback GSD is about N30/50k and with N70k (If well negotiated) he can get a pure caucasian as well. Pure rotts are 60k here in Ibadan. Dogs aren't as expensive here and they are pure breeds it all depends on how far the buyer is willing to go. Most GSD in Ibadan kennels are straight backs

The local dogs did what they are supposed to do by alerting of an intruder being your dog. That's the territorial instinct at work. You did the right thing by not releasing your dog, because he may contact parvovirus since he is still a puppy. As for fighting, they will not fight him, they will just do the necessary introduction of sniffing their anal regions. Your dog will have bowed to them to tell them that he respects their authority had it been you released from.the leash.
Your dog barked because he feels covered by your presence , it does not have anything to do with dominance or aggressiveness.

My pup does not respect authority sir. He has bitten 2 samoyed puppy breeds in the vet place twice. I had to pay for it. He is always looking for fight. He has even bitten my neighbor's little girl once when I wasn't around.

Thank God she understood and forgave me. Though I gave her money for treatment as he is a puppy and his bite isn't serious. So I doubt my boy will bow. But you are still correct

If it's your first dog, why are you looking for an adult? Your first dog should be a puppy not an adult. So your 70k can get you a very pure and fresh caucasian shepherd puppy

You did the right thing by not unleashing your dog to fight them, it is wrong in all senses to do so. What the local dogs did is quite understandable because that is their territory and your dog walking around there posed a threat to them and all they could do was bark and feign an attack.

Thanks for the clarification as I was wondering what we did wrong to them as we were just going without looking at anyone.

In my opinion, you did the right thing. Do not let your dog in a fight outside his territory (your compound). He might win the fight, yes! But what happens to you and the owner of the dog he beat down? Is it your house?

So op, you were right to go home immediately and leash your dog. And your dog doesn't feel defeated infact, he won since they turned back as you said and did not come close. As long as he did not attempt to run away, you are the one who took him away then it's victory not defeat in my opinion.

Hmmm. My partner said same thing. But it isn't fair. They should be able to freely roam as long as no one looks for trouble.

So earlier this evening at about 7:00pm I and my partner were walking our 5/6 months old GSD puppy. It has been a while we walked him he has gotten lazy. So we decided to go on a long walk even beyond our usual area of walking we decided to extend further into the neighbouring estate.

Then suddenly, 2 loose local breeds began to charge us. They ran towards us and then my GSD began to react. He wanted to attack but he was on a leash which I was holding but he also growled and barked violently at them and they turned back but I ensured we don't stay too long since we are in wrong territory before their father or their fellow pack members come forth so we left the area and went back home immediately.

He was still looking back and growling even as we were walking back home. Seems he wasn't satisfied or he wanted a fight.

My questions are,

What went wrong?

Does it mean we cannot roam in another area with dogs? One of the passerby said it's because we don't live in that area that it's wrong territory for my puppy.

Was I wrong to leash my puppy? Should I have set him free to fight? My partner wanted me to free him but I refused since he is a puppy and they are two and its their area(dog territory I mean)

Did he feel defeated as he didn't get to mouth on one of them as he wanted? Because even after returning home the anger is still there I see he refused to play with the younger female. He is still 'vexing'. I think he feels defeated or conquered

Although I enjoyed the confrontation. My puppy ain't a bastard. He wasn't scared

My Immediatr challenge is that the compound isn't concrete for now so grass grows even though it's trimmed at least every two weeks! And the dogs can't be caged all day and night.

I've never heard of this nutriola but will be on the look out. Some people speak highly of broken noodles as food for dogs would you say this is good?

I also get fish heads and gills from a local frozen food store around is that a good protein option?

I really cannot suggest any brand as they are so many and very cheap. (N1500 max)

Regarding the compound, the dogs should stay away from the grass areas by keeping them inside whenever they are out of the cage. If you want them to roam in the grass, ensure the grasses are trimmed regularly and they would be fine. Also remember insecticides to be used on the grass.

Nutritola is just one of many dog meals out there but it's made in Nigeria and cost effective unlike the imported ones which are quite costly. My dogs like it so much and I see it does the magic.

Believe me when I tell you, the broken noodles has nothing to offer your dog in terms of nutrition.

The fish is very okay. Anything livestock makes sense.

You don't manage ticks. You prevent ticks by keeping the environment clean. Bathe your dog regularly and spray him with anti-ticks spray.
At the very young baby age, please keep your pet inside the house.

As for food, there is nothing to manage as well unless you don't want your dog to grow in power and grace. Feed him with Dry Food, Canned Food, Others such as Nutritola 3 times a day. Also give him Fish and Meat as a snack about 3 times a week or just 2 times. And you shall have you dog grow into that big and proud beast

That is:

GSD + Rott + Something else.

Lol I really appreciate everyone on this. I shared with my friends and they told me about the dog trainers. However, from what my colleagues who have dogs told me, they said what is similar on this thread. And I can see it in their dogs.

Regarding him becoming a beast, follow these steps once he clocks 8 weeks. Still spend time with him for now till 8 weeks. Then at 8 weeks:

- Build a very small, tiny cage at which he can barely feel himself. Keep him there. Ignore his cry. Only go there to feed him and leave. You may bring him out once in a while for a few puppy play. So he won't die there.

- Assault him if he wagg his tail at another person. Let him know wagging his tail in friendship to someone else is an abomination. Everyone is a threat so his tail should be straight and stiff at anyother person. Ensure that when you assault him his tail doesn't go in between his legs, don't do it to scare him, do it to anger him. Make sure his hackles (hair/fur on his back) raise and his body is stiff.

- Put something that provokes him in front of the cage and leave it there. It would continue to aggravate him. Making him mad.

- Do not let anyone touch him.

- Do not touch his head.

- Do not call him with a sweet tone. Call with authority.

- if he is out of the cage, put him on a leash using a choke Chain. No collar. Raw chain.

- Feed him raw meat.

- Always approach him in a master manner. Do not come as a friend. Let him feel the Millitary regime.

- Cover the cage in a way he can barely see nothing but can smell. The madness will increase.

- Now release him at mid night and let him vent his anger on any thing that crawls such as rats or toads or whatever.

- When feeding him, bring something like a chicken or whatever and allow it eat from his plate and see his reaction. If he growls or attacks, good! Always do it. It would be increasing his anger at anything.

- At 6 months, bring a small female (rent it or buy) let him attempt to mount her, obviously she would reprimand him and it would anger him. Let her eat in his place to bring out his teeth and voice. Let him loose on her. Sacrifice her as a burnt offering for the cause.

- and finally, at 8 months, bring a stranger and let the stranger attack with a weapon. Make sure the stranger is wearing some pads as it is only staged not a real situation. Let the dog loose on him. Let the anger all out. The dog would never get enough so he would always be angry. An angry dog, is a beast.

Repeat the above steps until he is 1 year old. There you would have a beast.

Even at 1 year, still do it but reduce it. Because people will fear him, he won't need cage sef. No one would want to come in.

So, i don't understand you. It is simple, go to any random house in Nigeria with dogs(Foreign) especially Rotts or GSDs that are unchained, and come back to post your body pics. You would not want to confirm if they are trained or not. That is the point. When you see a massive dog with huge voice barking at you violently you would not want to confirm if it is trained or fearful. It is even fearful dogs that have high aggression. They call it "Fear Aggression".

But when you see a cheap small local dog barking, you wouldn't be so bothered. That is the point i am passing across. Not about training. Any dog can be trained but size matters a lot

The foreign breeds cannot perform the tasks you mentioned too much in Nigeria. They can, if they are trained to do so but we don't train them for that because our climate, soil, bad rough roads, and so on poses a risk to our pets

Dogs especially dogs working dogs are 'Pack Defensive'. Show off or not.. they would defend their pack. And their pack consist of:
- Owner and Owner's family
- Compound (Territory)
- Fellow Dogs owned by Owner (Mates)
- Maybe Gateman who bathes them.

So you may buy a dog for show off. Trust me, when the chips are down, that dog may kill someone.
