I was walking my 7 month old male GSD puppy yesterday at around 4pm. It rained so the weather was quite awesome for walking. I observed my puppy was growling at people looking too good to be true. I went to buy some things so we strolled together.

On our way back home, there was this loose Rottweiler dog sitting in front of a compound by the road. I wondered why a person would leave such a dog out on the street with the gate opened and dog unleashed. I was considering turning back, but the way home is that way and the next turn is quite a long way. So I decided to go further without caring about the rott.

The Rott charged us.. and stood in front of us growling. My pup also was growling at the dog. Then the rott attacked. I unleashed my puppy and let him wrestle the rott. He fought the rott and actually put down the rott but the rott hurt him too. They hurt themselves. The rott ran into his compound. I had to call a friend to come with his car or a bike to carry my pup as he couldn't walk again.

The useless owner of the foolish rott came out and began to shout at me. He said i was going to pay for the damages my 7 month boy did to his rott without talking about my own pup. I was so angry. Though I sorted things out with the foolish man as he also apologised later at night when we met again.

I am so thankful that my little puppy is alive. The rott hurt my boy. He broke the bone on his front paw. Though I took him to my vet immediately and the vet said he will be fine. He is with the vet.(overnight) I just remembered him.

Now vet demanded 15k from me. Because of one savage dog. 15k I did not plan for. I had to give him all the 8k with me and balance him tomorrow.

My wife and house help are so so scared dogs and will prefer he stays in his cage during the day....surprisingly my 1yr plus old daughter loves the dog and occasionally goes to play with him in his cage.

We release him at night and take him back into his cage at dawn....lovely dog..trying to get wifey to bond with the dog...we take occasional walk with him around our estate...it's a slow process but I'm hopeful they will bond soon.

A) Yes i suspected he is your first dog. And i would appreciate that you understand that a 'dog' is technically 'family' if you don't want the dog to return to bite. I believe you have heard of stories where a dog bite its owner. What caused it?

Your wife and house help needs to grow to love the dog! If i may ask, who feeds the dog? You, i assume.

Your wife cannot avoid the dog forever. Otherwise, the dog may see her as 'opposition' and may attack one day. Your wife should be able to relate freely with the dog. My wife too was afraid of our first dog, today, we have 4 dogs.

B) Your dog SHOULD NOT bark at people on walks. It doesn't make him aggressive but dangerous. Your dog SHOULD NOT bark at anyone OUTSIDE your compound UNLESS you both are threatened or challenged. So you should train that dog. Do you have any training program or schedule? Or he just stays in the cage and eat?

C) Don't get a wife for such a dog not just yet. If your external family are yet to bond with the first male, is it now two? You understand bro?

He nearly broke his cage when the generator repairer wanted to take the battery out of the compound....u dare not take anything out of te compound.....I love this dog walahi

I think the dog is due to be set free. God forbid, if something happens now, and bad people come (in the afternoon), what will he do from the cage?

The job of the cage is to make him aggressive which has been done. Set him free to patrol the compound. That way, no one will enter without calling you first. I release my dogs to patrol my compound although I have 1 neighbor and my dogs are familiar with my neighbor.

Keeping a dog in cage and releasing at night alone isn't really necessary. He can even stay in front of your door. You can chain him to guard your door. Better than keeping him in cage.

Is he your first dog? I must tell you, don't force more aggression on him, instead let him love you and willingly protect you

This dog is on fire....we call him Bassam....the dog is the best ever...we constructed a kennel for him at the back of the house...fed him once a day and release him only at night....u need to see the magic....the guy barks at flies sef....very aggressive to strangers and barks when taken for a walk.

You should tell the difference between barks. Dogs bark just like humans talk. A bark can be anything now until he see someone or something.

1. He can bark just calling your attention.
2. He can bark or cry out of distress
3. He can bark because he is alone and want you.
4. He can bark to challenge someone.

You should tell the difference between these...

You should start training from the first day he comes in the home. But it's never too late. A dog is really not always aggressive though, he just doesn't like strangers. My 3 months old female is a typical aggressive dog because she growls at me and barks at the other dogs. I don't think you want that. Do you?

But in your own regard, let me tell you what to do.

Keep the dog in the house with you ALWAYS. So he doesn't see anyone else to play with. You can also lock him in the house alone and start banging the doors seriously to fein an attack

He will yelp or even start crying and peeing. Do it again after 2 days, he will pee in fear again. Do it the third time after 4 days, he will bark. He will overcome the fear. He will bark twice or once then cry. Do it again after 7 days, he will bark angrily and growl. Then at that point your dog is on the road to aggression.

Remember, keep him inside with you. After pulling the above stunt to force out his bark, whenever he is outside to pee and he see someone he will remember the stunts you pulled and he will be worried. He won't play as usual, he will bark or growl. Slow and steady, you will get a full aggressive dog.


I tested this on my Siberian Husky, it worked. I also tested it on my GSD it worked. But my female, no need.. that one is a spoiled brat

3. Besides, if the female is aggressive as you desire, be ready to be bitten because to the female you are also a stranger.

My point is, don't look for aggressive dog. Instead train your dog to be aggressive. Otherwise what they bring to you as aggressive (because it barks), may just do nothing the day real danger comes. Then you will know.

You want to breed, are you ready to train what you are breeding?

Also, The female being brought to you, how guaranteed are you, of its quality? Health? Many females die at first pregnancy.

Finally, Why give your male away? who will mate your female? I have male and female. (yet I have no intention of breeding). Have you considered the joy in a male and female dog living together? Your male will even become more aggressive toward the outside (because of the female). But if you give him away, you won't get that. The female may not even do anything sef. Female sabi shout well well. Fight no dey their body. Na male things. I have 4 dogs. I can testify.

P.s a 25k or 30k Female gsd puppy isn't too much Bro. Don't give that boy away. Marshall right?

Everyone is entitled to their choices. Respect other people choice. I travelled from Ibadan to Ghana just to buy a medicine for my Dog. So yes, Fct to lagos is very small. Don't insult people. You don't love dogs,fine, we do!

I recommend you keep your dogs with a vet you can trust. When i travel, i keep my dogs with my vet. I always meet them intact. Even better

Bro, forget all dis ur location Rott... There is nothing like Setbian Rott, American Rott or thereabout... Rotts wer originally bred in Germany, and for that, Germans are the real owners of Rotts... Why they are called Serb rotts and American rotts is cause they wer bred in dat country, more like a breeder who specializes in Rotts in Nigeria, purely has Nigerian Rotts with German origin... People give rotts different names in order to cover their impurities... All Rotts originated from germany and there is a standard for Rotts... 60-40 jead ratio, zygotic arc should be pronounced, very dark eyes, body length should be longer than the dogs height, inside of the mouth should be dark and d list goes on...

Back to the topic, the Rott is too hairy, and the head is not well formed... You can keep as a pet, but wouldnt pass d breeding standard, but in Naija most times anything goes

As if we are not in Nigeria. Who cares about Siberian or American? Take that dog somewhere in Nigeria for stud, it will most likely be rejected or priced ridiculously low.

Do not give him the dog. Even if he has the money to pay! dont collect the money. dont release the dog. He let you go away with the dog. Did he tell you he will come back? He left the dog to suffer and now the dog is starting to look good, he wants back?

The puppy needs training. Otherwise, it would destroy more than slippers. Besides as long as the dog is given the necessary attention, it would not touch the slippers. That is caused by separation anxiety or boredom

Training is beyond obedience. It's more about relation.

Most dogs bark in cage so they would come out free. Not to fight.

Your dog's play with you is out of excitement. Don't keep him in a cage.

I have a feeling he would thou... Because there's this suspicious look he gives every stranger that comes into the compound from its cage, it also raises its snort up trying to pick up the persons scent, but it's almost asif he doesn't know what next to do after that...Lol.

Then the other reason behind d feeling is usually when hes outta the cage , he has alot of energy whenever me or my siblings play with him, he jumps,bite and keeps running in circles around us, atimes we even get confused as to whether he's actually playing with us or he's bn aggressive towards us.

Then on two different occasions I was told he barked at my mechanic and at a friend of my helper, but on both occasions he was outside its cage when they both walked into the compund.. could the caging thing be one of d reasons he dosent bark at strangers??..

Your dog should not bark at your friends since he knows they are your friends.

let me tell you a secret, 70% naija dogs that bark in cage won't do anything if they come out. lol I've tested it. Not all bark is a fight bark. So your dog is a reserved type of dog. One day you will see him in action. Train that dog. He needs training. He may not bark because he knows your friends pose no threat. Bring a real threat he may surprise you. My 7 months old GSD surprised me too last 3 weeks.

My wife and I always complain he doesn't bark. and truly he doesn't. Until one day one man that was shouting at my wife for silly reasons was displaying. He pounced on him. WITHOUT BARKING. They were telling me the gist when I got home. So calm down. Your dog may surprise you.
