DeOTR: It's the same thing in the North, don't get it twisted. It's just eye service. bros, I lived in Niger state for 6 years until I was relocate back to the east under Buhari regime, it's not the same at all. You need to visit the southeast to understand the meaning of militarization. |

What astonishes me is that you find a security checkpoint every half a kilometre in the east with security personnel extorting motorists and private citizens while there's little presence of these security forces on northern roads and communities, why can't they deploy all these security operatives and their armoured vehicles to the north where they're needed, the militarization of the southeast is totally unjustified. |

nairalanda1: Problem is not too many kids, it is not preparing the educational system to train the kids to build the economy
Added population is an advantage. There are many countries who would love to have our fertility rates.
The reason why we think our population is a burden is because most Nigerians do not pay taxes, and most government income does not come from taxes. If the income came from tax, population being large would be a blessing..future tax payers being born, enough tax for the aged pensions and government spending...and more workers to drive the economy.
But because most government spending is in the form of sharing oil money, extra births is an extra burden in essence.
But if attempts are made to increase tax to gdp ratio, that is where we would hear...the poor, we are poor. how can you tax Nigerians that are already too poor to feed their families? Do you know how much taxes we already from import duties,VAT, traffic tolls, government issued licences and levies etc. Uncontrolled birthrate is the biggest problem facing the north and APC moronic leaders lack the mental capacity and interest to figure it out and solve it. |

PROPEACE: Lol We may call the IMF evil, mean, inhumane etc but one thing I know they aren't is hypocritical. The IMF thought all times have never failed to give our leaders the same old wicked advice; remove subsidy, increase tax. The western countries that run the IMF don't follow that advice. Whenever there is a recession in Europe, the governments give unemployment benefits to their people, and council houses to their citizens who can't pay for accomodation. But to us, they advice us to withdraw such things, and in the midst of massive job losses, they always advice that we increase taxes. Quite strangely, our leaders never ever fail to follow that advice. I thought I'm the only one that have noticed the pattern, these same institutions destroyed the Nigerian economy through the structural adjustment program (SAP) in the 90's and are doing the same thing now while our leaders fails to think. |
