nateevs: However you like to twist it, the objective is goals. Lots of them. The difference between us is how we intend to achieve them. You want to go down the line of finding one guy who does it all, at the expense of a collective goal-scoring system. I want to go down the line of a collective goal-scoring system, at the expense of one guy who does it all alone. Simples!
Why do I want this?
Well.....I want to prevent a situation where things fall apart, when the one guy who does it all, is unavailable. In it's place, I want a system that works for goals, even when the main guy is unavailable.
I think this is succinct enough. A technique that enhances a goal-scoring system, SIMPLE!
It's funny how these lot put you on a leash. The last time you tried explaining a concept, the term 'shekpe keeper' was coined.
nateevs: From a technical standpoint, Ibime is right. However, it won't happen. Van Dijk will most likely move to RCB and LCB. The question now remains, what happens to Cahill? For me, if this was true, the best line up will be this
Azpi - Luiz - Van Dijk
Aurier - Kante - Bakayoko - Sandro
If Aurier and Sandro are available alongside Van Dijk, then Chelsea should stop at nothing to make his happen.
Now that's a Championship winning backline. You seem to be positive on Sandro, that ninja isn't leaving Juve anytime soon.
Are there good left wing-backs out there, as good as Sandro? I have always wanted Ricardo Rodriguez but fvck Emenalo and his side-chick Marina.
Nihilstjnr: Don't let preseason hype fool you. Cahill is only good when he's on the end of a corner or freekick. His defending has gone significantly downhill over the last two season. I believe it's only a matter of time till he gets exposed again this season. Hopefully, one of the competing CBs breathing down his neck will relegate him to the bench, sooner rather than later.
I wish to make a case for Gary but i guess I'll wait.
timbros: I'll still take Aurier. He is an attacking RB that can play RWB very well.
Azpilicueta is versatile. He can compete with Alonso in the LWB position.
Assuming all those signings come in, I will play Aurier and Azpilicueta in the WB positions and slot Van Dijk in RCB.
Sir, we talking about an Ivorian who is still facing charges for assaulting a police officer in France. This guy makes Costa look like Jesus.
Talking tactics, Azpi isn't just a fit for a LWB job. Defensively, he'd improve us down that flank, but his returns upfield would be a mess.
Unless you are a certain Lahm, whipping in deadly crosses from the left flank with your preferred right foot is never an easy skill. And he doesn't make surging runs into the opposition own area sef, no need.
Telegraph are running a report that the board has promised Conte three more signings.
Aurier, Van Dijk and Drinkwater are the players shortlisted already.
Now IMHO, the arrival of Dijk should see Azpi moved to the RWB on a permanent basis. We already have to many Centre-halfs and it's getting crowded over there.
With Azpi and Moses at the RWB, there won't be any need to bring in Aurier, who looks pretty much like Costa 0.2, rather his funds should get us another LWB, a competition for the feeble Alonso.
Drinkwater would count as homegrown talent and he knows the league well too. I won't mind having him, that our midfield needs anything that can trap the ball and tackle humans, just incase Kante shuts down.
Nihilstjnr: One thing I noticed about our wingbacks versus theirs is that Arsenals wingbacks are natural ball carriers.
Bellerin and Ox drive up field with the box and create space.
Moses is the only one that does that for us, and to a limited extent sef. Alonso doesn't really run with the ball, instead he chooses to take up good attacking positions...and hopes that sombedy finds him with a good pass.
Unfortunately with Hazard out, we only have Fab and Willian to carry the ball and try and find players in space. Maybe we can add Luiz to that. And Willian is not even that good sef.
This one reason why there was such a huge gap between midfield and attack yesterday. Most of our players are runners off the ball...unlike Arsenal where them dey show for pass at all times.
Can't we just shift to 352 so that Morata can at least use his first touch at number 10?
Na Seun block your main account?
You have a point up there but then taking good attacking positions isn't an entirely bad idea for a team who are looking to tear you apart.
With players who are constantly positioned in wide areas, a team achieves two things:
1. Stretches the pitch to its limit 2. Creates plenty of room for passing in the midfield.
Alonso and Pedro's run are essential in many ways.
I believe its much more easier to deal with ball carriers than runners.
A 3-5-2 is a system that would benefit every ninja in our team. Luiz and co can play their game, Cesc would have little defensive duties to worry about, Morata would get the chance to link up with a man up-front.
It is one hell of a flexible system that addresses the weakness of a 3-4-3.
MaziOmenuko: Conte needs some lesson on crises mgt: the way he handled Costa's case leaves a lot to be desired.
Heck, Rooney held us to the balls on two occasions, submitting transfer requests and all what not yet he was managed adequately. Conte rushed to take a decision and now damage control will be difficult.
You guys can try and sign Gbolahan Salami although his Finland club just renewed his contract. Its worth a shot.
Getting goals is the least of our problems, so i am not bothered about Costa.
Moses and Alonso are hardly defensive flankers, they are much more attack oriented in our setup. Hazard who has been out for a while now brings a lot of quality to that forward line and he has been sorely missed. The triumvirate of Pedro, Morata and Hazard looks good on paper and is yet to be tried out. So i won't bother myself about Costa, atleast for now.
The midfield and full-backs are areas work needs to be done.
