I know many players like that at amateur level, especially one of my guy Ayo. Ayo will dribble the whole field but his final shot is inshiAllah. He has no idea which direction ball is going when he shoots it. In my mind I'm like "just pass ball into an area of the net like you are passing to a teammate", yet Ayo will still miss. We don't know whether each shot is going left, right or middle.

It's such a big shame because Jackson is such a great player outside of the box. But I think his problem is physiological in the shape of his legs and cannot be cured.

If you’ve been following my takes on this, I’ve never said we are magnificent in front of goal. We obviously lack that firepower and there’s a need for reinforcements. However, when compared to our defensive figures, you’ll understand clearly that the reinforcements should even start from the backline or should I say the defensive system.

We are abysmal in front of goal but somehow manages 1.5 goals per game. If this was a Simeone led side, those paltry numbers from our attackers (at least from our own standards) are enough for him to win the title.

You simply need to understand that our defensive system is a mess. Having a lone man to screen the backline isn’t going to work in a midfield that has a stroller like Enzo - Caicedo would always suffer, those defenders would always get exposed. On the other hand, having error prone defenders like Disasi and Badiashile in our backline will never work, we would keep shooting ourselves on the foot. Lastly, having your best defenders lodged in the sickbay for months would never help us, we must find a way out of it.

All these needs to be addressed. It’s even the primary issue with this team. You don’t build a squad by stockpiling attacking players all over the place and expecting goals which definitely should transcend to victory, rather you start with a good defensive structure, one that would give your attacking bands the license to attack at will, whilst keeping the defensive system in shape.

Maybe he had such plan with the acquisitions of Caicedo and Lavia, but injuries won’t let us see through his plan.

As a footballer, you will understand that going ahead in a match, and especially two goals ahead gives you control and deflates the opposition spirit

When you are two goals ahead, it becomes about game management and time management. Your defence would just be passing ball amongst themselves while opposition will be disheartened

But if you keep missing chances, opposition ginger will be growing that today is their day and they are fated to win

So our missing of chances also affects defence.

Both areas need improvement, but our attack is not making games comfortable for our weak defence

First and foremost, I’m not saying we don’t need to fix the attack as much I would have loved to see changes at the back, all I’m saying is that the attack are doing relatively better, despite their shambolic performances.

Are they letting the defence down? This season we have taken the lead 25 times and have conceded an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 52% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 48%). In the same vein, our defense have conceded 22 goals which gave the lead to the opposition - 22!

For the proponents of outscore your opponent theory, of the 22 times that Chelsea's opponents have taken the lead, we have managed to score an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 55%, which is pretty higher than the league’s average value of 44%.

Our lead-defending rate of 52%, is lower than the league’s average value of 56% this season. A far cry by all standards.

Numbers don’t lie. As much as our attack have been profligate, the defense have shown over and over again that it CANNOT protect a lead. I’m not even talking about spurning chances, just to concede latter, I’m talking about taking the lead and ending up throwing it away.

No matter how you want to see it, the defense is contributing nothing in our run. Someone is saying that goals are everything in football, but I just have to ask him what’s the essence of those goals/leads when they can’t be protected? Football requires a high level of pragmatism, not fantasies. This isn’t Ipukulubiye Dolphins vs Terrible Winners, this isn’t fantasy football.

For a team that has a healthy overall scoring rate of 84% and an alarming conceding rate of 81%, you need no soothsayer to point to you where the problem majorly exists.

Game management? How many times have we tried and failed with it? Our recent game against man utd, is a good case study.

Went 2 goals up within 15minutes, but ended up chasing an equalizer and an eventual late winner.

Bin that entire backline, get a proper CF and we are clear. EOD.

Everybody knows if Chelsea fix their defensive issues they will be in a beter position on the league than where they presently are.

Like Griffon rightly puts it, outscoring ur oppnent is a fantasy in modern football that is not practicable.

I checked Chlesea's last 10 games on Sky sports and I discovered Chelsea has conceded in 9 out of those 10(Bar the 6-0 Everton Trashing). Guess what? Chelsea on failed to score in 2 out of those 10 matches i.e vs Loserpool & Man city.

How will anybody see this and claim the attack is the culprit for Chelsea's woes when the defence can't keep opponents from scoring?

You only need one goal to win. Of which we’ve been returning more than that per game (1.83) - literally two goals scored per game, despite our profligacy. Prior to the City’s game, we’ve been doing a regular Over 1.5 goals per game, so how is the attack the MAJOR problem?

It can’t possibly be yet only six teams have outscored us in the league.

What I don’t understand about una camp is how you all fail to see that conceding 1.73 goals per game for a top side is a disaster. Like, you’re certain these guys are going to concede two or more goals in a game. Have we done up to six clean sheets this season sef?

How that useless defense keeps undoing the little work done on the final third is beyond me. Our defense is the first of the myriad of issues to address at the Club even before that ‘useless’ attack.

If we’re handed a transfer embargo right now, I’ll be very concerned, not because of the attack but because, I’ll be losing a 39-year-old Thiago Silva whilst entering the next season with Disasi and Badiashile. That is high BP loading and waiting.

We have defenders out injured and just the return of Silva alone, we have seen a sharp departure from what Disasi and Badiashile served us. When Colwill, Reece, Fofana return we will have improvement in defence. We should not bark the wrong tree by wasting funds senselessly. We should only add 1 CB while we concentrate more on our major problem - attack.

We once had Anelka. kalou and Drogba in our squad. I don't even know the name of the backup striker in this team now. Our main striker, Jackson can't even bench Alvarez, Hojlund and Nunez in their teams. That's how bad our standard is, at present. Silva's wife was right.

In all these we’ve scored 61 goals in the PL. Only the six placed teams have scored more.

If we’ve had a decent defense, we should be on the top 4. Facts only.
