Finally, after a week, UC Browser is now back on the Play Store. Last week, Google pulled it off due to some issues and now it is finally back to the Store. Users now can easily download or update their UC Browser from the Play Store. The version which is now available for download is different and there are some features that have been removed from the latest APK.

Google removed the UC Browser due to non-compliance of the Google’s Policy. It is said to be a minor feature that was out of line with the Google Policy but now UCWeb has figured it out. The feature that was out of the compliance has been removed or tweaked in the latest build.

Phones / You Can Now Delete Sent Whatsapp Messages Within Seven Minutes by Gsmbasics: 11:29am On Nov 02, 2017
WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update which allows you to revoke or delete messages that have already been sent. To get the new delete option, you have to update to the latest version of WhatsApp on your device. Even if you have sent the message to a group or individual contact, the new delete for everyone option allows you to recall the message within seven minutes.

In case you haven’t got the update yet, you can head to the Play Store and update the app to the latest version. Then, send a message, select it, and hit the delete button. You will see three options delete for me, cancel, and delete for everyone, of which the third one does the trick. Once you do that, the recipient can only see a notice that says ‘This message was deleted’.

You can’t recall the sent messages whenever you want. For that to happen, you must be quick enough to tap the Delete for everyone option within 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, you will only get the option to delete the message from your device.

Now WhatsApp does say that even with this option, your recipient may have seen the message before you deleted it. Moreover, the message will stay in the notification shade and cannot be deleted from there. Then sometimes, the delete option may not succeed, but WhatsApp will inform you if that happens.

I always advise people not to borrow anything from all Nigerian networks. they're all cheats.

Business / Another Nigerian Girl Returned N355, 358.06, Erroneously Paid Into Her Account. by Gsmbasics: 11:01am On Sep 08, 2017
Nkiruka Rosemary Nwachukwu, a staff who resigned from the services of Abuja Electricity Distribution (AEDC) Plc, has returned the sum of N355, 358.06, erroneously paid into her account.

Nkiruka, formerly in the Revenue Protection Unit of the Company, resigned from AEDC employment in May 2017.

Prior to her resignation, she had been part of the Company’s Bulk Payment arrangement and bulk rent payment had only been deducted from her account to the tune of N253, 827.20 before she resigned. She was however paid the sum of N609, 185.28.

Upon noticing the error, she made a refund of the sum of N355,358.06 on the 7th June 2017 and sent a letter informing management of the refund.

This rare act of honesty and display of integrity deserves commendation and is worthy of emulation.

We salute her honesty and sincerity and encourage other staff to emulate such exceptional qualities.

In other climes, what Nkiruka did is a normal duty expected of an average citizen.

However, in contemporary Nigeria, trust, honesty, and sincerity are in huge deficit. We also use this medium to wish Nkiruka the best in
her future endeavours.

Phones / Google's Latest Application Will Help You Save Mobile Data! by Gsmbasics: 9:07pm On Jul 27, 2017
Google is apparently testing a new app for helping users better manage the mobile data used by their mobile phones.

The new Android application, referred to as Triangle, is presently being tested in the Philippines.

Triangle allows you to see your data balance, see which applications are accounting for the most data usage as well as block individual apps from making use of your mobile data, and many more things.

Google Triangle consumers can also assess their prepaid data balance inside the app.

By having Triangle, users can personalize how their applications are permitted to use data. Base on a recent report, people can block such applications from making use of mobile data for 10 to 30 mins, or even permanently.

Google has not made any official announcement concerning the launch of the app. Triangle is presently a free download on the Google Play Store for the Philippines.

Food / Beware! Here Is How To Identify ‘rice Made From Plastic’! by Gsmbasics: 12:06pm On Jul 27, 2017
There is a scary trend coming out of China – the country is making RICE out of plastic!

They are reportedly made from sweet potatoes, potatoes and a synthetic resin (aka plastic). The mixture of these ingredients form grains that resemble rice.

It is then sprayed with a chemical fragrance to make it smell like an expensive brand of rice called Wuchang rice.

There have been a few reports of the incidents of the consumption as well as the selling of plastic rice in Nigeria, due to their import from China.

Don’t worry! Here are some tips on how you can be sure your rice is fake or real.

#1 When cooking your rice, if you notice a thick layer on top of the water, it is probably the fake rice.

#2 If you try to put flame to plastic rice, it will emit a plastic aroma and also, burn like plastic would.

#3 Real rice will sink in a glass of water. Fake rice will float.

#4 If you put cooked rice on the counter for a few days, the real rice would mold!

Phones / Google Is Rolling Out Play Protect Security Suite To Android Os Smart Devices by Gsmbasics: 7:27am On Jul 21, 2017
Google revealed a security suite referred to as Play Protect on its I/O conference around May.

Google is now rolling out the Play Protect to all the Android smart devices operating the version 11 or above of Google Play Services.

Looking at the number of malware as well as adware attacks the Android applications have been dealing with lately it must be the right time for Google to release this security suite. While the application includes basic features such as find my phone and even anti theft measures, it also comes with advanced features such as browser protection as well as app verification.

The application with verification capability of Play Protect will ensure that your apps are free from any sort of adware by periodically scanning them. You can also personalize how often the scans occur by going to the settings of the app.

To sum it up, Google's Play Protect is just like most security and antivirus applications available on the market. But it is nice to see that Google is taking action in order to boost the security of the Android community.

Also, because the Play Protect has a consolidated user interface you can know about all the features of your phone's in a single place.

Phones / Offensive Youtube Videos Can No Longer Earn Money From Ads by Gsmbasics: 7:10am On Jul 08, 2017
There is all form of ways to make someone to click on a youtube video to watch. You could have an appealing thumbnail, an eye-catching title, or perhaps the content itself might be controversial through which you would gain views, although in this particular case, not everyone may be a fan or "like" your online videos, views are still views, right?

However for YouTubers who insist on creating offensive content in hopes to get more views and therefore generating more money from ads, that will no more be possible, due to YouTube's new creator rules which help to analyze what makes a youtube video considered as being "ad friendly", and also lay out what type of videos are unfit to earn ad revenue.

This has been a challenge for YouTube in recent times as it has been noticed that some youtube videos which were considered by many as being offensive were displaying ads, which in turn resulted in companies pulling out their ads from the site. Not only did this affect creator income, but YouTube's also which might explain why they are clamping down on such video clips.

YouTube has afterwards said that many advertisers have come back after discussions and the inclusion of new controls. Finally, if you are planning to put out youtube videos that will offend, don't expect to get a buck from it, at least certainly not from YouTube.

Phones / Facebook's Wifi Finder Now Available Worldwide by Gsmbasics: 8:14am On Jul 07, 2017
Towards the end of 2016, Facebook announced a tool that would certainly help people locate free public WiFi.

Since we don't always know if the area we are at offers WiFi, or if you're searching for a place that's confirmed to have WiFi before going in, this tool will without a doubt come in handy.

However, at the time of writing, Facebook confirmed that the feature was in testing and exclusively available in select markets, but not anymore as Facebook has since launched the tool worldwide and made it available to people.

As reported by Facebook, "Today we're beginning to offer Find Wi-Fi everywhere globally on iPhone as well as Android. Phones / Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition Revealed With 3200 Mah Battery And Bixby by Gsmbasics: 10:13am On Jul 04, 2017
Samsung Galaxy Note 7, filled up all tech magazines as well as blogs with a severe explosion. Aside from this explosion, it looks like a very decent smartphone.

But, now the transformed version of Note 7 has been revealed as Galaxy Note Fan Edition through a press release. It was ready to release this Galaxy Not fan edition on July 7th in South Korea.

The significant difference between Note 7 and its fan model is the explosive material (battery). The initial Note 7 when released came with a 3500 mAh battery. It is later on figured out that battery is the primary reason for an explosion to occur.

For this reason, Samsung thought of doing a bit homework on suitable battery for Fan edition. After carrying out many experiments, Samsung, at last, concluded on battery specifications and it is just 300 mAh less than the former one. After a good result from 8-point battery test, hope it won't blow up this time around with 3200 mAh power supply.

Bixby is the trending software modification installed on both S8 and S8+. The good thing is, fan edition is also featured with Bixby. Rest all functions of Note fan edition are exactly same as Galaxy Note 7 as announced by Samsung in a press release. The key specs include 5.7 ″ AMOLED display screen, RAM-- 4GB, Storage space-- 64 GB, IP68 water resistance, S pen, USB-C fast charging.

Considering that the production of note 7 is dropped in midway, it is explained that the fan edition has been produced using the bits and pieces of Samsung Note 7. The Smartphone is limited to 400,000 units and the price tag is $611 as rumoured that's roughly N221,793.

Phone/Internet Market / The New Nokia 3310 Is Now Available For Purchase In Nigeria by Gsmbasics: 10:10pm On Jun 25, 2017
Nokia's modern 3310 was among the unexpected stars of Mobile World Congress earlier this year. Nokia sold off 126 million 3310 phones back when the device was first introduced in September 2000.

It's an iconic device, and now the improved modern version is now available for purchase today on Konga. Priced at N18,000, the latest 3310 is a little bit smaller and more stylish.

You're not going to be downloading and installing all the latest applications on this phone, but it does feature a fresh look on the traditional Snake game.

Inside, it's operating Nokia's Series 30+ software, along with a 2.4-inch QVGA display screen, a 2-megapixel camera, as well as a microSD slot. Opera Mini will offer basic web browsing, but the real appeal of this particular mobile phone is the battery lifespan. HMD, the manufacturer of the new Nokia-branded mobile phones, says the latest 3310 will last 31 days on standby with 22 hrs of talk time.

You can check out the difference between the old version and the new version of Nokia 3310 here.

Phones / Whatsapp Would Like To Be Your New File Sharing Platform by Gsmbasics: 12:05pm On Jun 25, 2017
For as long as we can recall, WhatsApp has provided its users with the opportunity to share documents, pictures, and videos, however, for some reason, it put restrictions on the file formats that could be sent.

Now, however, the Facebook-owned firm has started testing a new feature that enables people to share any type of file-- even an APK-- provided it's below 100MB on Android and 128MB on iOS.

Sure, 100MB is quite a small limitation, but we're suspecting the restriction is in place to stop users overwhelming WhatsApp's servers through the transfer of enormous files, like ultra-high-resolution video clips and video game.

If you find yourself going to Dropbox, Google Drive or perhaps another platform on your smart device to send files to people you chat with every day, you'll probably welcome this feature with open arms.
