I fully agree with you here , I also blame the lady for staying with him for so long if she was interested in an official marriage. She should have left him a longtime ago.

Not every situation ends like this as sad as it is . Infact I would support someone to live with the person atleast briefly before making the decision to marry them. You will get to know many things about them that you wouldn't know if you lived apart. This is ofcourse when you have both made the decision to get married . You will know for sure whether or not you really want to spend the rest of your life with this individual or you want to go separate ways without going through a stressful divorce.
