TravelRe: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by guiddoti: 2:08pm On Aug 31, 2017
chimah3:
This is just some advice for new students coming into Canada or just recently landed!

Be prudent in your spending unless your family sent you off to Canada with 30 billion.

Do not purchase things until the need arises. You might find out you do not need them after you purchase it.

The craze to spend money on fast food and new clothes will run your pocket dry if you do not bind that spirit early.

When you want to purchase an item, look for it first on kijiji.ca. There are Chances you will find someone with the same item who need it no more and wants to sell it at a cheap price.

Take the bus. Leave UBER alone! Met a Nigerian that took UBER from Toronto to Waterloo to attend orientation.( when it's not evil spirits playing with your destiny)! Please download Google Map and learn how to use the bus. They are clean, neat and safer.

Shop during off seasons. I.e. if it's winter, buy your summer clothes in advance. Vice versa! You will most likely get them at unbelievable clearance price.

Learn to cook! Always eating out can also eat deep into your budget!

Your study permit allows you to work! Please once you settle down start applying for part-time /weekend jobs if you can handle schooling and working together. It will help you pay off your debts easily! Please do not work full time or exceed the allocated 20hrs/week. You will get in trouble!

Apply for a credit card immediately and start building your Canadian credit score...it will help you if you decide to settle in Canada after your studies.

Make friends, connect and be nice to everyone! You never know who you will need at any point in time!

Make friends with other nationalities, it broadens your thinking. But know who you are and where you come from. Don't get caught up in their ways!

Be bold and smart in an out of school! Seeing a lot of whites at once can b shocking and intimidating but you need to toughen up! Truth is you are better than most of them and many of us lived better lives than them back home if not for our stupid leaders and economy that constantly frustrate our effort and drag us backwards! So in class make your point, don't let anyone intimidate you, argue your points and stand your ground. But do it POLITELY!!!

Don't dull, be sharp! Always know what your contemporaries are doing at any point in time and follow suite!

Stay safe! Stay out of trouble and bad company! It is not worth it! There are a millions way to go astray in Canada...do not fall a victim! You know all you and your family invested to get you here...the least you can do is be successful and make them and yourself proud at the end of the day!

For those that like women, please and please and please...a lot of underage girls in Canada look like grown ass women! I call these kinda of girls 'Jail-time booty' cus that is where they will send you! Do not fall into their trap! Be sure to know enough about her before you proceed!

All the same be of your best behavior and God will help all of us! As school resumes in some days time...I wish you all the best academic year and will keep reporting live from my little luxury hole!

If you run into any issues or problem, no matter your province in Canada, always know you have a Nairaland family ready to look out for you here!

#Udo!

I will also share most of my experience here : www.naijacanuck.com. Do well to check it from time to time. You might learn a thing or two!

I do not understand why people will complain that a PTDF staff was giving out information that is, let's face it, what PTDF should be doing. This is non-sensitive information!

Nigerians sha. The way some people here reason. Someone is helping you with updates of a test-release date and you find fault in it. Why?

Gosh!

Anyway he's gone. I guess those who chased him off are happy to resume groping in the dark.
I do know that its likely be those who dont comment.

Now is the time to go. However, no one will miss me because you still have DMainMan and Dremanuel around. All information they have given has been accurate so far. I can't wait to meet you guys during the orientation. I just hope you wont look down on me when you eventually meet me.

Good bye
I feel like crying, bro has gone off line grin. Good job. Cheers.
I will personally look for you on that date.

I really need to get the mails tomorrow so I can pick up my son's passport by Thursday. Friday and Monday are public holidays right? And his school starts next week Tuesday. Honestly if I had known it would take this long I would have done priority. He did his biometrics on the 11th of July!
Don't panic madam, your son has extra two weeks grace to join the class. If he can't meet up Tuesday he should info the school of the delay and ask for latest date of resumption.

I remembered warning that the immature and impatient attitude on this forum will scare people from sharing valuable information here. Maybe next year scholars will learn from this mistake.

So for as many that will have one issue or the other after the list has been realeased, to the time they conclude their studies; you just lost someone that could save you the stress of unnecessary visits to ptdf office in Abuja.

It's not just him but everyone also harbouring his intentions.
Bro, get the fact right. He only has posted here two or three days ago. So, it should be within these days his complain was reported. If not for the aforementioned guys, do you think those complains would be applauded to their strategies. Now, the list is out we have more comments than never before.
Kudos to those guys he mentioned, you made this forum lively.

We wish the 2017/2018 LSS scholars success in their studies. The successful OSS scholars will be contacted tomorrow. All successfuls should fill the form provided honestly and correctly so we can act and plan accordingly.

It is unfortunate I will deactivate my account now. Some of you had complained to PTDF that a staff is on nairaland passing out information. While they were happy, it is not professional as it is the duty of the public department to do that. To hide my personality and my account to be known, I will deactivate my account now.

I just felt I should give information as Nairaland has helped me a lot during my struggles. You don't need to refer me as Sir. I am just like you opportuned to get PTDF job. I hope an official PTDF account will be agreed by management as Npower is here on nairaland.

Before I leave, I will like to thank DMainMan, Dremanuel, madridsta, usqoh, Dennisekendrick, Ellacity, DXXM and many more for all their contributions. Your input has helped the education department as regards the exam flaws which we took into account when shortlisting the successfuls which on the other side delayed the shortlisting process.

For all those giving important information in this forum, thank you for selfless service. We have learnt and hope to make the process efficient next term.
Thank you for this info. Indeed, you are a prophet on this forum not a man in parables grin. Cheers

Thank God u said top ranked pastors
It was den baba hardly get informed of d happenings in church
But now ehn
did u know somw top leaders dat av all dis construction companies left d church cos dey weren't given dat gbagada project
He now knows everything happening in d church
I totally disagree that baba would not know. If I begin telling you some of the nepotism during church plant/ district churches it would look like am against the church. Let's focus on what op posted, that is what Paramount to me now. Those stories of yesterday is gone, today is what count. Thanks

From birth Bro
but d people who disciplined dem
was it Kumuyi himself??
They were top ranked pastors, which baba would know of or hear of the issue or incident. It was so serious because they had thought worldly things could easily crept into the church. I think, that was initial thought.

Bro I disagree with dat
d guy should tell me wen he joined d church
glass pulpit came into deeper life since it was introduced
I started as far back in children church in gbagada when Lagos still have LSBC in Oshodi route. Don't argue what you don't know. I still have respect for baba (Pst Kumuyi). He is truely a man of God, though am not a member but still in the faith.
When do you join?

Is it d same kumuyi who advised people not to watch TV at all? The same kumuyi who will ask his members not to be a worker in his church if they are in possession of TV aka devil box? Now when eyes have opened very well, that hypocrite normalised the use of TV in his church and here you are, telling me what I know so well as a blatant lie.

I'll show you what happened to a member of the church whose family was destroyed because of the advice of the people of kumuyi.
Sir, you are right about the TV being called devil's box, and people who have them were punished by the church authority. Even, glassy pulpit was forbidden then except wooden that is widely accepted as old fashion way. However, what the op put up is what heaven bound christians should be careful of. We are in the last days where eroneous teachings have crippled into the church of God. May God count us qualify for his coming.
