Flamini is out sad

Hleb and Flamini join Cesc and Co on the injured list

By Richard Clarke

Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini have been ruled out of the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday.

The Arsenal squad left for Tyneside on Tuesday without FOUR international midfielders. Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby missed the 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday with hamstring and back injuries respectively. They will not be returning at St James’ Park.

And during that morale-boosting victory in Birmingham, Hleb collected an Achilles/hamstring problem while Flamini fell victim to a recurrence of his thigh injury. Arsène Wenger will bolster his midfield by adding Denilson to his squad. He also has options in Lassana Diarra and Gilberto. However striker Robin Van Persie (knee) is still a couple of weeks away from a return.

“We have lost Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini from Saturday at Villa,” Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Tuesday afternoon. “We have no-one back so that's Diaby, Van Persie, Hleb, Flamini and Fabregas out for this game.

“At one stage we thought it was congested in midfield but now it looks bare,” he joked. “But we still have quality players coming in there. We have Gilberto while Denilson is back after an injury. He is travelling with us. So we are very confident that we are still strong in the midfield.”

Hleb and Fabregas are unlikely to be back for Arsenal’s return to the North-East on Sunday at Middlesbrough however there is more optimism over the chances of Flamini playing at the Riverside Stadium.

What a debut by Walcott, kiss setup the equalizer for Gilberto and caused them Villa defenders a few problems!

It certainly wasnt Theo"s fault that he was included in the England world cup squad
and i am encouraged by the fact that he is back playing amongst his peers, all the lad
needs his a coupla games under his belt, and everyone will also see the TALENT that
AW saw in him cuz by then he would have gained more confidence in himself, only then
will he be unleashed on the EPL cuz that boy got Pace and some skill too! cool

SportsRe: Ronaldinho Or Okocha: Who Is More Skillful? by GUNNER(f): 4:55pm On Aug 10, 2006
Nope no curses its my belief their "REAL" age just catches up with them

Football is a game of talent, skill, stamina and brains ehm, if i have forgotten anything u may add it

The motto is "catch them young" and when some players CHEAT on a level playing field, they will surely be found out because its only a matter of time before the physical aspects of the sport takes its toll on their bodies

Thats why after these FIFA age-group competitions certain footballers fade into oblivion within a few years whilst others keep shining and reach their pinacle of success within those SAME few years

A case in point was Atlanta 96 at which these GEMS emerged Hernan Crespo, Ariel Ortega,Javier Zanetti, Alessandro Nesta,Fabio Cannavaro,Gianluigi Buffon, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, Sylvain Wiltord, Dida, Ronaldo,

Vis-a-vis

These players who were also stars at the tournament Tijani Babangida(Okada) Celestine Babayaro(Playboy) Augustine Okocha(so good they named him twice) Wilson Oruma(Headmaster) Sunday Oliseh(Master Passer) Kanu Nwankwo(Papilo) Taribo West(Pastor) Mobi Oparaku(Shortie) Victor Ikpeba(Prince of Monaco)
