Politics / Re: New And Revised Allowance For Nigerian Lawmakers by guysmat(m): 12:20pm On Mar 07, 2012
What's wrong with paying them (politicians) minimum wage?

Are they not there to serve the nation?

Old teachers in schools (after spending over 30 yrs training us and our kids) aren't paid the minimum wage and are afraid of retiring because the pension scheme isn't meeting its desired reason for being created. Yet someone comes into political office and can legally go home with over N50m every month.

The result is garbage in garbage out.
Look at the public schools today.
Are the kids there really the future leaders?
Or will they wait for the kids of the politicians who will graduate from Oxford, Cambridge or Harvard to come and lead the nation?

Education is the key.

When one carts away fund that would have been useful in developing and maintaining schools in a community, he is invariably destroying the future of the young generation of the time.

A hypothetical example:
In a community with 1000 kids of school attending age, how many of the kids are born into families that can afford to send them to schools in other towns or cities? Probably 10 kids; all of whom might be from the home of the ruling class of the village or community. Now, what happens to the 990 kids that can't make it to school? Farming, pottery making, weaving or the most common of social vices in our times like teenage pregnancy, kidnappings, drugs, , the list is endless. Leaders of tomorrow, they are. We could argue for and against, back and forth, but these group of youngsters are the ones that will be manipulated into committing crimes against existing authorities.

Fix the education sector and everything else should gradually fall into place. (IMHO)

Lekki Toll gate Statistics:

Let's say you own an SUV and live on the other end of Lekki where you'd have to pass thru the 3 toll gates,

1 SUV x N150 x 3 tolling booths = N450.00  (almost $3 USD)

If you go to work in the morning and come back in the evening,  = 2 x N450.00 = N900.00

If you have to do this everyday of the month, then you'll be paying 30day x N900.00 = N27,000.00   cry   cry

Assuming everything remains constant for the year,
you'll be paying 12 months x N27,000.00 = N324,000.00 (or $2076) annually for just one car  shocked  shocked  shocked  embarassed  embarassed  undecided  undecided

And this is supposed to go on for the next 35 years       Who signed this agreement     cry  angry
Religion / Re: Is It Okay To Pay Your Tithe To A Man Of God? by guysmat(m): 6:48pm On Oct 20, 2011
As a few good and honest people have already mentioned on this threat, you can't pay your way to heaven.

The bible is clear about what you do with tithe. Please read Deuteronomy 14:22-29.

Let me summarize it for you: Tithe is for YOU.

Not for you to give to another to do as he/she pleases.

Jesus has already paid the price for you. Let no one threaten you that if you don't pay, x y z will happen to you.

Let's be practical: What about the poor that can't pay or those living far below the poverty line? is it that they are doomed for life?
Is there going to be a gate man in Heaven checking a list to see if you paid your tithe?
Is the gate man going to say "Catholics, this way, Protestants, that way, Anglicans, over there, Hindu, that way?

Ask your parents if the craze for for their hard earned money was like this when they were your age.

Is it that our present day "pastors" suddenly received divine revelation to milk their congregation dry while they grow fat?

My friend, if you're really moved by the Spirit to help, go to orphanage and see the plight of children; go to ERs/hospitals and comfort the abandoned. Provide lunch and dinner for them. I assure you that the "Thanks" they offer is a prayer that will bless you beyond your wildest imaginations.

Our God is watching. He sees our hearts and knows our desires.

Remember, Jesus has already paid for your trip to heaven. It's now left to you to score points for yourself for use in the afterlife.  grin

Peace

Family / Re: Should I Go For Adoption by guysmat(m): 1:07pm On Sep 16, 2011
There's a lot of pressure to do things you wouldn't necessarily do had it been all was well.

People who get married and a year later are blessed with kid(s) can never know the mental agony those without kids have to go through; especially if one's partner isn't patient and considerate. Not to mention pressure from the in-laws.

I waited 4 years after getting married to carry MY CHILD; the joy of the moment up till this time can never be expressed in writing. And as time goes by, the love between us and the child increases. For me, the lesson learnt from the waiting was that God's time is the best time. Never force the hand of God. Today we are blessed with an extraordinary child-genius from God.

But before the child came, there were ups and downs. A lot of downs  +tears if I may add. God was there every step of the way though and in-laws were encouraging.

One encouraging thing my mom reminded me was that "NO ONE CAN MANUFACTURE A BABY". Yes a lot of people out there are aborting theirs on a monthly basis because they're not ready while you're begging God day and night to just give you one. All I can advise is that you continue to be prayerful, patient and calm. NEVER give up. You joy will come.

All said and done,  it's not an easy decision to go for adoption but it sure eases the burden a great deal. Best of luck and God bless.   smiley   wink

Are you serious? Nothing like that has happened in Nigeria? Can you please try to be honest. If using the rod is the answer to everything then 99% of Nigerians will be without sin and Nigeria will not be the failure it is today

Nigeria is not a failure o.
Nigeria's problem is the leadership will power to direct the nation to greener pastures.
How many Nigerian's are dependent on govt for their daily bread? Besides, lets not forget the fact that her citizens are born smart by default. grin grin grin Too many smart people caged in one place, go figure.

Remove a Nigerian from his country and place him at par with anyone else in a developed country and (8 out of 10), the Nigerian becomes a superstar.

We have what it takes; it's getting our acts right that's the problem. Slowly but surely, we're getting there. Mind you, a lot of countries out there don't want you to reach that level of development. They know they'll be in trouble if we do grin grin (gist for another thread, )

Accumulated years of sparing the rod is what is putting UK in the mess they're in right now.

How can children that are barely teenagers go about senselessly rampaging and destroying things in the the name of venting their frustration? Challenging police authorities right to their faces that there is nothing they (the police) can do.

Can you imagine such happening Africa, Eastern Europe, South America or any where in Asia? In fact even before the thought of going to commit a crime crosses your mind, when you remember the kind of whopping you'll get from your parents or wards if caught, you'll cast and bind the idea for even crossing your mind.

Imagine in the UK where your children can hold you to ransom by throwing tantrums or even calling police for you, insisting that you must do whatever he/she (the child) wants, hmmm

Make them go try that one for 9ja see if parents and elders no go redesign the pikin face with slaps.

Some of you guys are making noise.

You should be grateful Nigerians aren't in the habit of committing suicide.

Assuming the guy was pushed to the edge so much so that he comes to the office the following day with a gun and starts blowing everybody's brains out (preferably Monday morning board meeting,  undecided) and saves the last bullet for himself. At the rate things are going, it's bound to start happening.

There's a lot to be discussed on the issue but in summary, I'll simply say that:

Enterprises need to really look out for their employees and not just push them out into the field to bring in the big buck.

Business / Re: Beware Of ATM Card Cloning by guysmat(m): 2:54pm On Jun 16, 2010
I want to believe ATMs have inbuilt cameras to take pictures of the ATM card users the moment any card is slotted into the machine.

The time stamps, pictures and transactions executed on the ATM are save to the ATM's hard disk.

These saved data are only called upon when problems of ATM card cloning & etc are reported.

Now, for a bank to keep on insisting that an owner withdrew money contrary to the complainant's statement without accessing the saved data on the ATM's hard drive means the personnel in charge of the ATMs are not fully aware of the an ATM's capabilities, the internal cameras were disconnected upon installation (which is highly unlikely) or the personnel weren't trained on the internal surveillance capability of the ATM.

Family / Re: F by guysmat(m): 3:08pm On Mar 15, 2010
At this rate, if "anything" happens to the husband, his family will collect everything in that house and abandon the wife and kids to their fate.
The man had better put his foot down and read the rules of engagement/riot act to everybody concerned.
Is the brother going to live with them for the rest of their lives?
What are the husband's plans for this brother?
What happens if the family is posted to another part of the country/abroad to work? Will brother tag along?
When brother gets married, will he move in his wife into the home?
There's a limit to everything; and a battle is brewing somewhere.
The earlier that battle is fought, the earlier peace will be brought to the matrimonial home.

Religion / Re: Should Our First Fruit Go To The Pastor's Pocket? by guysmat(m): 2:21pm On Jan 20, 2010
Well done Tunde. Just the passage I was going to recommend.

My protection from those that want my MONEY: Deuteronomy 14:22-29  tongue  tongue  grin  grin  shocked

Please read and digest that passage very well.

YOUR TITHE is for YOUR OWN PERSONAL CONSUMPTION!!!! Not for "someone else" to do as he/she sees fit with your money.

How come we've never heard a pastor preach or expatiate on this verse in the bible?

"People" twist the scriptures to fit their desired objectives and goals.

Offerings and collections, I agree; but say tithe,  hmmm. Wahala go dey o.

How come everything in a lot of church these days is all about money money money. It was never an issue while growing up.
Parishioners took care of the church without being prompted and everyone lived in peace with one another.

Today, there's very little about your salvation or how to seek the kingdom of God.

It's all about your prosperity and how much you stand to receive if you "give to God".
Some people even receive terrible threats from fellow members or even pastors if they signify unwillingness to "part with some money".

As if the God who created you wants anything more that your Praise and Worship of HIM.

HE has tasked us to seek first his kingdom and everything else will be added unto us. (Matthew 6:33).

Your salvation is of utmost importance to God. Not your meager hard earned allowances.

If you like, give the whole currency in the world to the church & have all the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
if you don't have LOVE for your fellow man, my brothers ans sisters,  nothing nothing for you o.
There's now way you'll make it into Heaven.

You can't bribe God nor buy forgiveness.

That was something done in the old days when parishioners would buy 2 doves, pigeons or goats (please read Leviticus 12:8 and Leviticus 14:22) which would then be presented to a high priest; and the priest would offer them, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. All for atonement on his behalf before the LORD. Jesus' coming did away with all such things.

At present, parishioners are getting poorer,   cry  embarassed  yet those at the top will show no mercy.
Instead, they make you feel very guilty by cleverly quoting scriptures so that you join the band wagon and empty your pockets. lipsrsealed  undecided  angry
If only the pastors would read and meditate upon Hebrews 13:5.  wink  tongue  grin

Give what you can out of the willingness of your heart (not because you were bullied into doing so) to support your church but remember that your tithe(if you really must pay) is for your own consumption. NOT ANYONE ELSEs.
b]Deuteronomy 14:22-29[/b]

May the Good Lord bless us with wisdom and knowledge according to our needs in Jesus name. Amen.

Enjoy.
