linus. i wrote ican but wished i wrote ACCA. acca is easier to pass abeg. as for resources ACCA beats ican hands down. some ican books and pathfinders dey will even put disclaimer that the solutions to questions der are d opinion of the author. in 2011 when i wrote PE1.i was unable to get the complete study packs as i was in ilorin den. abeg mk ican go sleep

@bolded in terms of what? If u are saying it is easier because materials are readily available, then i agree with you.. but when it comes to the quality of questions Acca examiners set, then forget it, they are ver much more technical than ICAN.. little wonder why Ican simply copy and paste several Acca questions. The last SFM exam in November contained a bunch of acca f9 financial management questions. This is the baby of Acca p4 advanced financial management

I am gathering information on ACCA because I want to start this year. I have a bsc in economics. I heard I have an exemption (f1). I also heard cbe is on demand. I want to write f2 and f3 this year. Do I need to attend a tutorial or can I self-study? How will I get study materials? How about registerations, can I do it myself or do I need to go to a tuiton centre?

U can self study if you are not totally new to Accounting. Visit any tutorial, there are usually bookshops around, u can also get soft copies. U can register urself, theres even a guide on the site i think

ANAN is not bad.. it is inferior to ICAN and is not more than a degree. The context of your comment made it obviously insulting.

It irks me when i see people make comments like this ignorantly in the name of motivation. you must think ICAN is a joke. I hope you are not the type that will advice someone with D7 in maths, E8 in Physics, D7 in biology, to keep pursuing their medical ambition. I know of people who spent years doing ICAN meant for just 2 to 3yrs and ended up frustrated.

@ OP, i dont believe in buttering people up so i will tell you the truth. If you go for ICAN with the same rate that earned you a third class, you will likely end up frustrated. But if you insist you want to be chartered, then here is a recommendation.

1. Go back to basic accounting, if possible O level accounting, and make sure you understand the rulesof debit and credit very very very well. Master it properly ...not just memorise its applications
2. Go on you tube and create a program for your self. Download sufficient videos on each of the accounting areas....from elementary book keeping to cashbook, pettycash analysis, suspense a/c, control a/c, partnership a/c, company a/c, joint ventures, public sector ....u know them. i repeat, understand and master them...dont just memorise the captions and formats.
3. download sample ICAN questions so you'd know what you are up against.

when you have done this and are satisfied, u can now do ICAN. If you cannot still attempt sample ICAN questions for the Basic level, then i'll advice you humble yourself and go for what could be up your speed.

this is the advise u should have given him before "insulting " him by recommending ANAN.. Besides you appear to be one of those that think your university grades define who you are. You probably went to one private university where they dash first class, so u dont understand what people face in some government universities.

@Op as i said just work hard, those grades mean nothing, there are people who made first class that i know still battling to pass ACCA exams but me that didn't have passed all papers at one sitting with 3 to go. So its not by university grades, its by who you are currently and how you build yourself.

@OP ANAN is not a professional exam as such, u wont be considered a chartered accountant with ANAN and it is only recognised in the public sector.

Anyone can start Ican, even without a BSC but where u will start from depends on what u studied in school.

Better still if you have the cash, i advice u apply for ACCA so u can take advantage of the Oxford Brookes Bsc in Applied Accounting in order to stand a chance to get a better grade.. Wish you the best, and never look down on yourself, sooner or later u may find out u are better than the first class or second class graduates. Just believe and work hard!!

any paper u like.. but try to take f7 either before f8 or simultaneously.. i believe u can combine other skill level papers as u like.

Congrats bro.. my p2 score was just fair (60+).. i have 3 papers left. Am planning to write p3 and p7 in June, then p1 in September perhaps.

Okay i can now talk.. I have officially passed all the Acca exams i have written at one sitting.

My trick remains hardwork, yes i read very hard in detail and ensure i really understand what i am reading and its implications, a bulk of Acca marks come from your understanding of the subject area and not just about punching calculators. I don't walk into the exam room without having a very good knowledge and application skill in every topic. Trust me it all boils down to hardwork, ACCA is tough, you need to enjoy the papers (be willing to learn from all topics rather than just passing), to get a better shot at passing.

The failure rate is higher than pass rate , ACCA is extremely difficult and a lot of people are filled with regrets of even starting at all. Let's not be ashamed of failure as you can always resist a paper. Please share your struggles and how you are coping so we can all learn .

let us wait till 12:00am before we start to share experiences. So far i haven't failed tho but i must confess it hasn't been easy at all.. Acca exams are very technical.. the results am expecting now, i need a miracle tho..lol
