Hi, if they wanna do accounting and get the CPA designation, there are two options, starting the CPA prep directly with the CPA and graduating to the CPA PEP afterwards.

Alternatively, they could do so via schools with affiliations with the CPA, the CPA Prep is covered by postgraduate certificate in accounting by some colleges and the PEP by Masters in accounting by some universities.



The second options allow you to apply for OSAP, which would cover your fees and you get some allowances afterwards. However note that OSAP is a combination of loan and grant.

I am on the second option.

Completed my CPA PREP at Cambrian college (program was fully online and you can do it part time or full time) and I’m about to start the Masters at one of the CPA accredited universities.

It will take you 1 year of full time study to complete the CPA PREP at a college and 2 years part time. Same with the masters. Doing it directly with the CPA maybe longer, it depends on if they give you waiver for some of their course based on your Accounting first degree.

I must say, it takes grit and determination.

For jobs, keep applying for entry level role, book keeper, graduate roles in accounting, customer services in banks, entry level roles with the CRA, entry level tax roles etc

better to pursue a career supply chain / logistics write PMP or CSCP. CPA takes about 2 years to complete and costs over 10k cad. No guarantees she will see accounting job as she doesn’t have experience. She can try getting book keeper certifications and look for a entr level role too.

She was working in Admin/Logistics back in Nigeria before she left. Graduated 2016.

She intends to write CPA but it’s quite expensive.

@ednut1, what advice will you give someone who has BSc in accounting from Nigeria but never practiced as an accountant. She wants to pursue accounting in Canada but don’t know where to start from. This person is a PR currently in Canada.

Just block and move on with your life. Keeping them around to see you succeed means you are not over them yet. I blocked my ex when we broke up, travelled and even changed my number. I don’t know anything about him and he does not know anything about me.

My dad went for 15 years, remarried and had kids. Tried to get back but his character was worse than when he left. Told my mom not to even try it. Nonsense. Thank God she listened to me. She is married to someone that pampers her now. I am pleased with him.

My friend whose marriage is less than 1 year got cheated on by her husband. The lady got pregnant for him. The marriage is dead now.

Pls, I would like to find out if at the port of entry (Canada), one will be asked about "proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada" ? If yes, how can this be managed, if you don't intend travelling with much cash for security reasons....

I landed in Toronto, I was not asked at all. The airport was very busy. Just travel with your bank statement. Make sure you bank statement is not more than 10 days to your travel date.
