Abuja -The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for continued support and prayers from Nigerians to enable President Goodluck Jonathan to deliver his campaign promises. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh, made call in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday. “We have no doubt whatsoever that the president is on course, he will continue to deliver on the PDP promises to the people of Nigeria. “Quite a lot has been achieved in the various sectors and there is no gain saying that the government needs the continued support and prayers of Nigerians to do more,” Metuh said. He said any objective assessment of Jonathan would show that his administration had recorded a lot of achievements in the last 14 months. He said efforts by some desperate politicians to rubbish the achievements recorded by the present administration would fail. “It is the right of every Nigerian, especially the opposition to assess and interpret government efforts to suit their biases. “ However, objectivity of criticisms is central to any collective effort towards building a better nation, ’’the statement said. It urged politicians to remain partisan and politically plural, which was the true essence of democracy. It also advised politicians to let the greater interest of the nation remain their primary objectives in their engagements. According to the statement, mischief and deliberate misinformation calculated to bring the president to undeserving disrepute is a great disservice to the nation. “We wish that those who have made this a hobby would quickly realise their mistake and retrace from the track that would not benefit the nation,’’ the statement said. It added that in spite of the country`s security challenges, which the president was sparing no effort in tackling significant strides had been made in every sector of the economy. “Even though the issue of security as the president admitted, was not a major issue during his campaign, however, he is on top of the emerging security challenges. “Nigerians have witnessed remarkable improvements in public power supply, as power generation has moved from 3,000MW in 2011 to 4,300MW as of today,” the statement said. It said the present administration met 10 abandoned independent power plants and had successfully revitalised all. It said that five of the power stations located at Olorunsogo (Ogun), Sapele (Delta), Omotosho (Ogun), Geregu (Kogi) and Alaoji (Abia) had been completed and were already generating power. It said the Federal Government had also ensured an investment friendly atmosphere that had necessitated the influx of foreign investors into the country. The statement further said that the party and the government were committed to satisfy the yearnings of the people. “The unity of our dear country and the welfare of the citizenry shall continue to be paramount . “We wish to assure all Nigerians that there are better days ahead,’’ the statement said. OKUPE is in charge of Public Affairs and so far neither the public nor GEJ has found him wanting, so why should he be sacked? Maybe he is causing havoc, or a serious threat to the other camp. God help us |
ayobase: Dont be daft....from the workers' salaries, 25% is being deducted monthly for the purpose of pension....research before u post rubbish my friend!Sir, objectively, no senior staff's gratuity can be above 4million. But here, the least staff is going home with 8million. Haba! Isn't Govt fair enough? Even if you deduct 800%, you can never get that much. Praise Govt for once. |
It is normal that host communities where companies are sited employ indigenes to compensate them for damages that may be incurred. Though violence will not be recommended, Chevron should be advised to revisit their employment policy, to allow for admission of indigenes. |
Sir, after posting one thread, I find it difficult to post another thread. The server keeps telling me to wait for few minutes and this continues to come up at every attempt. What should I do? |
Maybe that is the reason why we use to have epileptic power supply. No wonder the Minister of power accused them of being Agents to Generator companies. They are saboteurs. Let them give way for privatization, so that we can pay for what we will enjoy. |
This alliance is failure bound. The aftermath of the 2011 elections is still fresh in our mind. Corpers and INEC officials were slaughtered like ram because CPC didn't win. People's houses were burnt and properties destroyed. Today Buhari still wants to become the President. PDP will finish their unholy alliance. Instead of BUHARI, I WILL VOTE GEJ TWICE |
Since the partial removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government seven months ago, a whopping N248.85bn has been shared by the three tiers of government under the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme. The money shared was savings made from the partial fuel subsidy removal. The amount, our correspondent gathered, was based on the budgeted monthly provision of N35.55bn credited to the SURE-P account by the Federation Account Allocation Committee. Of the N248.44bn, the Federal Government got N105bn, representing a monthly allocation of N15bn for the seven months; while the balance of N143.55bn was shared by the states and local governments. A breakdown of the N35.55bn shared by the states in July revealed that Akwa Ibom got the highest amount of N1.83bn; while Rivers got N1.46bn; Delta, N1.40bn; and Bayelsa, N1.09bn. Abia got N364.9m; Adamawa, N393.3m; Anambra, N394.08m; Bauchi, N456.52m; Benue, N439.43m; Borno, N494m; Cross River, N389.13m; Ebonyi N285.76m; Edo N446.3m; and Ekiti, N301.1m. Others are Enugu, N347.1m; Gombe, N297.42m; Imo, N469.75m; Jigawa, N454.62m; Kaduna, N504.13m; Kano, N718.6m; Katsina, N535.7m; Kebbi, N390.29m; Kogi, N395.9m; Kwara, N335.93m; Lagos, N540.48m; and Nassarawa, N296.6m. Similarly, Niger State got N475.26m; Ogun, N376.59m; Ondo, N533.08m; Osun, N406.47m; Oyo, N515.89m; Plateau, N364.73m; Sokoto, N415.93m; Taraba, N366.13m; Yobe, N360.05m; Zamfara, N352.01m; and the Federal Capital Territory, N56.77m. The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Yerima Ngama, had said the states and local governments would not receive their share until they opened separate accounts for the fund. This, he noted, would enable the Federal Government to track how the fund was being used. He said, “The subsidy re-investment fund is supposed to be paid to the states and local governments separately into a special account that they should open and we expect them to also forward to the ministry the programmes that they intend to use the subsidy re-investment fund for in order to alleviate the condition of our people. “But every state is free to determine what it wants to do with its subsidy re-investment fund. It doesn’t have to be what the Federal Government is doing, but you can come and complement what the Federal Government is doing in your own state. So, the distribution will be made separately so that we will be able to hold people completely accountable.” Findings, however, revealed that the majority of the states in a bid to begin the implementation programme, had been responding to the directive. For instance, Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State last week inaugurated a committee for the implementation of the programme. The SURE programme provides for the implementation of short-term social welfare schemes to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians. Some of these are the construction, completion and rehabilitation of rail, refineries, key federal highways, hydro stations, information technology and water projects. The programme will also fund mass transit, public works, training for unskilled youths and social services to reduce high maternal and infant mortality rates. It is being managed by the SURE-P committee headed by Dr. Christopher Kolade. The committee is saddled with the responsibility of “mitigating the immediate impact of the removal of fuel subsidy and accelerate economic growth through investment in critically needed infrastructure.” Of the Federal Government share of the SURE-P fund, it was learnt that N21.7bn had already been set aside for the construction of the East-West road. |
The six suspects are older and more matured than the second group. They are obviously different. We need to see more Bokos in their net, they should get back to work. |
I will adopt GEJ's Tranformation Agenda. With it, a near perfect society can emerge. |
Bakare needs more help than ever before. He need a powerful Pastor to restore his faded annointing. He is desperately seeking power and feels condemning everybody will help him attain power. |
Considering the recorded achievement so far, I see the Power sector under GEJ achieving this. Remember that recently, the FG has hit an all time high record of 4237 megawatt. we can only hope for the better. |
Mission doomed for failure. |
Elrufai has deceived us for too long. Thank God a more stronger force with powerful literary prowess is matching him down. He never sees anything good in others except he is part of the executives. OKUPE keep up the good work Jare. |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party win win the October 20 governorship election in Ondo State. Obasanjo stated this on Saturday in Akure at a rally organised by the PDP ahead of the election. At the “Unity Rally” in Akure, the state capital, the governorship candidate of the party, Chief Olusola Oke, was handed the party’s flag, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Obasanjo described Oke as “very credible,” and urged the people of the state to vote for him. “I want to start by thanking our brothers and sisters outside Ondo State who have come to flag off the campaign to bring PDP back to the state. “We have a credible candidate for Ondo State, Olusola Oke is a good leader that can be taken by his words.” The former president said he returned to the country on Friday night from the United States to attend the rally because of the importance attached to it, adding that he was supposed to return on Monday. Obasanjo urged party members, supporters and the people of the state to vote the PDP in the forthcoming election. He also advised the people to be ready to defend their votes and to also exhibit good conduct during the election. The PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Hope Uzodinma, who represented the national chairman, called on party members to vigorously campaign for the party’s candidate. Oke, who spoke after receiving the party’s flag, promised not to disappoint the people of the state. He said that industrialisation would be given priority. |
According to a reliable source, “The next defence minister will be announced soon after the consultation that is going on presently between the president and the former leaders. I can confirm that notable names who have served this country in several capacities are being considered but the Presidency is also aware that the slot became vacant only because the minister from one of the northern states was dropped and it is only proper that the state or the zone be accommodated in the executive council.” About two months after the Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed was sacked as the nation’s Minister of Defence, the Presidency may have relaxed the urgency in appointing another one until the consultation between President Goodluck Jonathan and two former leaders, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida is concluded. Until now, the media have been awashed with several names as possible replacement for the former minister who was relieved of his post alongside the National Security Adviser, General Aziza. While Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) was announced as Aziza’s replacement as NSA, the Presidency kept the public guessing on the likely successor of Mohammed. Although President Jonathan would have wanted the new Defence Minister to be announced before the recent visit of the United States Secretary of States, Hilary Clinton, the consultation between the president and the former heads of state which has reached advanced stage, it was gathered, stalled the announcement. A source told Saturday Mirror that Chief Obasanjo did not feel comfortable with President Jonathan surrounding himself with former loyalists of IBB as security aides and would prefer the Defence Minister coming from the South. While Colonel Dasuki, a former ADC to IBB has since resumed as President Jonathan’s security adviser, the favoured candidacy of Lt-Gen. Aliyu Gusau (rtd), a former NSA and close associate of IBB has continued to elicit some concern in some quarters. http:///KS8hQur6 |
AS military men stepped up manhunt for those responsible for last Monday and Tuesday’s killings in Okene, Kogi State, a lawmakers is among 20 suspects so far arrested in connection with the incidents. Saturday Tribune gathered that the suspects included some government functionaries and top politicians from Okene Local Government Council. The sources alleged that the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District was among those in custody, while some suspects had been taken to the Police Force Headquaters in Abuja for interrogations. Meanwhile, heavy search is presently going in Okene, as military men deployed to the area are out in full force to recover guns taken away from two of their colleagues killed by gunmen on Tuesday evening. Our correspondent discovered that the Idoji area in Okene, which normally served as a haven for criminals, was under security siege on Friday, as the area was said to be one of the hideouts of some notorious criminals in Kogi Central. Vehicles were thoroughly searched, while people were made to lift up their hands when approaching security checkpoints. Already, people are moving from Okene town to either Ihima axis, Ajaokuta and Ogaminana area all in the Kogi Central because of the security operations. Similarly, the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District, Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has called on the residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding. The Senator, who is still on Lesser Hajj, made the call amidst tension in the district, occasioned by public complaints of harassment by soldiers deployed to restore normalcy following the successive attacks on the Deeper Life Church in Otite, Okehi LGA and the Okene Secretariat, which led to the death of about 22 persons, including two soldiers. Also speaking, a former deputy governor in the state, Chief Patrick Adava, described the crisis in Okene as political. |

Is he aware of the pains the 8 people whose plots were revoked passed through? Can a man like this now define what leadership means? Yesterday he called those around him clueless, today he admits that he is a criminal. God don dey catch am. #naijagobeta |
phreakabit: Make Igbos fold hand dey watch jor. We had no allies. . . . We have no allies!Have you forgotten that Biafra first gun shot was fired at Gakem- Cross River and that Ojukwu's second in command Effiong, is a Cross Riverian? Think well my brother |
Hmmmmmm! They are deceiving Nigerians |
abouzaid: The 40 laptop squad have invaded nairaland with bakare and el rufai being their current project. The said group is a fly by night non entity that shouldn't even be published by any news media worth it salt. U guys should stop making nairaland more dull than it is already. As for karl max, many national leaders and kings in israel were prophets and kings. Besides u don't deserve to bear that name going by the way u reason. Pls read up on karl marx works or change id. I don't hold brief 4 anybody but i'm tired of all this lame propaganda going on daily here.abouzaid, if you read Marx's Communist Manifesto, you will see that he was a gradual reformer. He promised the proletariates the Utopian city called communist society, and incited them to engage revolution, which according to him will culminate in the dislodgment of the Bourgeosies. Though very fanciful, real communism was never achieved. today, a realizable version of a perfect society is encapsulated in GEJ's Transformation Agenda. Nigerians are beginning to see the result, and won't allow self acclaimed Pastors, shallow or not rooted in the Gospel to deceive us. Nigeria will get better under GEJ. Bakare should finish his bible class, maybe he will tap annonting. |
blacksta: Thank God a few Nigerians are still educated and not stupid and how did you arrive at your conclusion that El rufai is the BK spokes person. if you are looking for a spokes person - look no further than within the PDP party.blacksta, have you wondered why Elrufai asked the President to resign, two days after Boko Haram made the same call? Can't you see that it happened in a coordinated manner? While Boko Haram were crude, raw and forceful about it, Elrufai came out gorgeously, armed with Oyibo language, and ask GEJ in the same fashion to resign citing insecurity; insecurity that he is busy sponsoring through the back door. Guy add 1+1 make you get 2. |
Only the people can choose their leader, 30billion or 1trillion. Thank God GEJ's electoral reform is perfectly working. Where did Tinubu bring 30billion from in the first place? He is sowing seeds of corruption. FAILURE |
While we sympathize with their cause, we urge them to follow due process as anything that will disrupt the unity of this Country will not be accepted. Govt will surely do something in this regard. |
Pastor Bakare is currently in class, receiving lecture on BASIC BIBLE KNOWLEDGE (BBK101), with Pastor Caleb imparting fresh annonting. Make this one sink for him head o! Stubborn PIKIN Sabi fail exams, we hope this one that comes from a fellow pastor will help put him in the right direction. |
You are disappointed because IBB was asked to publicly condemn BOKO HARAM, you are disappointed because Asari said if anything happens to GEJ, THERE WILL BE WAR, YOU ARE DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE HE SAID YOU GUYS HAVE SMALL PIKIN BOMBS. What is wrong in asking IBB to condemn BH and prove his innocence? Now Clark has challenged him to a public debate, we are waiting. Nigerians are disappointed and ashamed of northern leaders. |

There was palpable tension in Okene, Kogi State as policemen and soldiers searched houses for weapons stolen from two soldiers by gunmen on Tuesday. A gang og gunmen had on Tuesday killed two soldiers and taken away their weapons after a failed attempt to attack the Okene Central Mosque. Two of the gunmen were also killed by the soldiers. A resident of the town said on the telephone that people remained indoors amid trepidation, as the military had advised them to produce the weapons. Traffic was light in the town while residents expressed apprehension at the likely aftermath of the search. Two men and one woman, believed to be leaders of a gang which killed 20 members of Deeper Life Bible Church in Otite near Okene on Monday night, were paraded by the police on Wednesday. |
A seccessionist group known as Bakassi Self-determination Front has set up a radio station at Dayspring Island in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State. The group, which has already hoisted a blue-white-red flag, said its action was meant to ensure the reclamation of the peninsula. Dayspring Island is the only portion of the old Bakassi Peninsula that was not ceded to Cameroon by Nigeria. The radio station began transmitting on August 6 at noon. The group has also warned sea travellers to avoid the area on Saturday and Sunday. |
