I will lead the war if anybody kills any Igbo man -Orji Kalu

A former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has warned that the South East region will not take lightly any act of violence against indigenes of the region in other parts of the country.
Mr. Kalu spoke Tuesday on a programme aired on the Africa Television Authority, AIT.
His comment was in response to the threat by some northern youth for Nigerians of Igbo ethnic nationality to leave the northern region by October 1 or be forced out.
He said the comments were coming from “unserious northerners”.
At a separate occasion, the former governor had earlier said Nigeria had gone past “quit notice”, and urged Nigerians to live in peace.
But pressed on the AIT programme, Mr. Kalu said, “Anybody that touches any Igbo man in terms of (saying) that we should quit; the country will go into war, and I will lead the war; if Igbos are touched”.

He continued: *“Nobody can touch Igbos because this is our country. If anybody kills any of our brothers, we will go and fight back. We will not take it lightly that anybody kills any of us and then you will tell us to go and take it lightly again; no! We will not take that,”* said Mr. Kalu.

Again, he dismissed the call for repatriation of Igbo from the north as “nothing”, saying the threat came from “unscrupulous Nigerians seeking cheap popularity”.

*“The quit notice means nothing; I know when northerners speak, I will see their hand when they speak, I was trained by them so I know when they are serious.*

*“No reasonable northern elder will do that; did Adamu Ciroma say so? Did Babangida say so? Did President Abdulsalam say so? Will Aliko support that? Only people who are looking for cheap popularity.”


“When you say northern elders, I don’t know whether Sultan, Emir of Kano and his likes are asking us to quit. If all these people come out and say we should quit; we will quit. We are not afraid of quitting. But Nigerian unity is more important,” Mr. Kalu said.

Speaking on the way forward, the former governor said Nigeria’s religious and community leaders have a huge responsibility to inculcate the culture of nation building among Nigerians.

“The hatred is too much. I think the best way is to get religious leaders to start preaching peace. You cannot imagine that if something happens in Pakistan; they will go and kill Igbo or kill someone from the south. That is not right,” said Mr. Kalu.

since when I have been born I've never seen a Nothern corper in the Southwest or East. They keep bringing our people to come and make up for tye failures of their leaders in the name of nysc. Yet they can't take care of them. so unfortunate.

The former Governor made this remark on AIT today in an interview on the programme power people and politics . He further said that only a tree will not react while you are killing it that the Igbos will no longer take sorry after being attacked. He further called on the Igbos in the Northern part of the country to ignore the quit notice that such notice should not be taken serious ad the real Nothern leaders and elders have not spoken and do nor support the move.

During the Second World War, the British war ministry under the leadership of Winston Churchill, knew from the German intercepted codes that an English town was about to be bombed! To evacuate the town will be letting the cat out of the bag and the Germans will change their code which will take months again to decipher!! So they agreed to let the Germans have their way and the town was devastated and decimated by German bombs!!! But the English albeit the allied coalition forces won still went ahead and won the war.

During the IBB years as Nigerian president, he introduced many novel polices and took lots of far reaching decisions that were unpopular and truly affected us negatively. But we can now proudly say that he opened up our economy and created a robust one that was good for investors and many people smiled to the bank!

OUK has ten times what qualities these two great leaders have and more. And he had demonstrated it in the past while he was Abia State Governor. Only that many of the benefactors have decided to bite the fingers that fed them and have now turned to be foes and his worse critics. They are not Judas as in Jesus but are worse than the betrayer, as they are not repentant, like Judas but are vile and ingrates. That's the simple reason we have negative comments in the press and on our streets. Rumours and grapevines spread by men OUK made who decide to pay him back with back stabbing and character assassinations.

When OUK was Governor, he only created wealth for so many businessmen but opened up enabling environment for businesses to thrive!!! He made more millionaires in Abia more than IBB made in the entire country!!!

I stand to be challenged or proven wrong. I can start enumerating names if need be and we will all be shocked by the list of beneficiaries! Most if them were mere small time businessmen, while others were driving a Beetle VW but ended up being successful in all respects in less than four years. Some of them were his friends and they used to troop to Umuahia to be "settled" by OUK and he did make all, repeat all of them very happy and contented! How times change. How people change. How events unfold. How Nigeria has become a level playing ground for all. But like the wise word opined "only thing that is permanent is change itself"

Days were in Nigeria when no one dares to speak or write or call meetings! But our own quintessential OUK was always talking, meeting and issuing press conferences. Where were these guys then! They were afraid to die or be put away! But not OUK who doesn't fear death or anyone!

Days were when OUK and few Nigerians, just 14 of them, dared the junta and met and presented a position paper for all of us!! For our good. For the food of our children. It's the fruits of that paper that we are enjoying today. We tend to forget that some people fought for the dividends of democratic dispensations we are savoring in Niaja today! OUK was at the forefront of that fight! We should be grateful and not spiteful. We should revere OUK not spite him or look at him with a scorn like some of our people are wont of doing.

We all know that is good and right but lack the will to say or do it! OUK or no one!
