PoliticsFG Acquires Radio Licence To Broadcast In Fulani Language by happney65(op): 7:47pm On May 22, 2019
The Federal government has acquired an Amplitude Modulation (AM) radio broadcast licence that would be used to reach out to herdsmen in different locations in Nigeria, as part of effort to end farmers-herders crisis across some states in Nigeria.

Government said it realised that radio is the choice means of news for the herdsmen, hence the need to reach out to them through that means, with the message of peace, unity, tolerance and education.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who confirmed the acquisition of the licence in Abuja, on Tuesday, said the radio service will operate on frequency of 720KHz, and will be strictly on Fulani language.

He disclosed that plans are underway to secure funds for procurement and installation of requisite transmission equipment for the successful take-off of the radio station.

He said the radio services will, unarguably, serve as vehicle for social mobilisation and education, in addition to interactive radio instruction (IRI) methodology that would be adopted to reach the very hard-to-reach segment of our target population.

“Additionally, it will enhance our capacity to address crisis between herders and farmers with attendant consequences to loss of lives, destruction of productive assets, nomadic schools, facilities teaching and learning resources,” he said.

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Prof. Bashir Usman, explained that some veteran Hausa broadcasters have been contacted to develop programmes that would add impetus to the commission’s effort towards mass education of the target group.

He was optimistic that it would help entrench peace building, conflict management and resolution, with a view to promoting harmonious and peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders in the Nigeria.

He announced that no fewer than 617,518 pupils are currently enrolled in 3,582 various nomadic schools in Nigeria. This, he said, consists of 320,934 males and 296,584 females. It also includes the 202,050 pupils under early child care development education which also has 104,924 males and 97,126 females.

“This is an unprecedented quantum leap when compared with the 18,000 pupils at the inception of the programme in 1989,” he said.

He, however, confirmed that the Minister of Education had approved the construction of two model nomadic schools in Jigawa and Katsina states, and they would be equipped with 1,800 assorted furniture, VIP toilets and several other things that would enhance teaching and learning.

PoliticsWike Offered Me Billions Of Naira To Compromise Rivers Election Says General Jam by happney65(op): 9:42pm On May 21, 2019
Jamil Sarham, general officer commanding 6 division of the Nigerian army, has said Nyesom Wike Offered him billions of Naira in bribe to compromise the governorship elections in the state.

Aminu Iliyasu, the division’s spokesman, Sarham said governor Wike decided to witch hunt him when he turned down the offer.

Governor Wike is accusing Sarham of of running a massive oil theft in the state as well as sending troops to assassinate him on the 15 of Febuary 2019.

Denying the allegations, Sarham said: “Wike’s resentment against me is based on my choice of professionalism and integrity over the billions of naira offered me by the Rivers state governor to compromise the 2019 general election,” the statement read.

“My refusal to be bought over and the rejection of the hefty offer is the genesis of Wike’s hatred and vociferous criticisms of me.

“On the mischievous accusation against Maj. Gen. Sarham of leaking proceedings of State Security Council meetings to criminals in Rivers State, Mr. Wike knows well that Maj.-Gen. Sarham is not a member of the Rivers State Security Council, neither has he ever approached the gates of Rivers State Government House, since his assumption of office as the GOC, 6 Division.

“Mr. Wike only came face-to-face with Maj. Gen. Sarham on the 15th of January, 2019, during the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day parade at Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to challenge Wike to provide the public with any evidence of such meetings, with Maj. Gen. Sarham in attendance. Wike’s allegation against Maj.-Gen. Sarham’s selfish involvement in illegal oil bunkering is another reckless, spurious and mischievous accusation.

“Hence, Headquarters of 6 Division wishes to request the Rivers governor to take the most civilised way of putting up a petition to the relevant authorities, to make a point.”

PoliticsWe Want Nigeria To Become One Of Easiest Places To Do Business, Says Osinbajo by happney65(op): 4:20pm On May 21, 2019
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday said that Nigeria does not have the luxury of dealing with one country in the world.

Osinbajo, who made the assertion in Lagos at a two-day 2019 USA Fair, said that Nigeria as a developing country was ambitious in building relations with America, Europe, Asia, Middle East and others.

Represented by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, Osinbajo said that Nigeria would continue to be a partner to different countries.

“We want Nigeria to become one of the easiest places for anyone to do business in the world.

“Nigeria does not have the luxury of dealing with just one country. We really want to be a good neighbour to many countries.

“As great as America is, we want to partner with America. We want to also partner with Europe, Asia, the Middle East and other countries of the world,’’ he said.

Osinbajo said that Nigeria and America would continue to be strategic partners, adding that both countries should work together for themselves and the world at large.

The vice president who commended the organisers of the conference and exhibition fair said that the current administration was working to create the enabling environment for foreign investors.

“We are committed to nurturing and building this relationship to its utmost because we want the best for our both countries and the wider world.

“The many sectors that are represented here from America represent areas where Nigeria will be partnering with America for the greater good,’’ he said.

The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington, who described Nigeria as a strange country, said that leadership from Nigerians would drive Nigeria, Africa and the world forward.

Symington enjoined business owners not to see every opportunity as one for making a profit, but also an as opportunity at making the whole world a better place.

“No doubt that there is a need in Nigeria, but never think of Nigeria alone. Think of West Africa, think of America, think of Africa, and think of the world.

“See every opportunity as one for Nigeria, one for America and one for the world. It should all be how to make the world a better place,” he said.

PoliticsTinubu Meets Buhari In Saudi Arabia, Attacks PDP by happney65(op): 10:00pm On May 20, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, met in Saudi Arabia on Monday, where the latter attacked the Peoples Democratic Party.

He also used the meeting to urge the country’s elders to tone down on making inflammatory statements.

A Presidency statement said Buhari and Tinubu met in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, at an Iftar dinner (breaking of Ramadan fast).

Others in attendance were the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kazaure, Dr Najib Hussaini-Adamu.

Tinubu attacked the PDP, saying that its leaders made “saucy and distractive statements’’ because of their “colossal defeat” at the general elections.

“Don’t blame them. They are handicapped by the traumatic feelings of the colossal loss of the election.

“You should help them to manage the trauma,” the Presidency statement, which was signed by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, quoted Tinubu as telling Buhari.

Turning from hitting at the PDP, Tinubu called on Nigerians to continue to support the Buhari administration ahead of his May 29 inauguration for a second term and beyond.

“The President worked hard and will continue to do so to ensure peace and stability in the country, which are important for the economy to make progress.

“These are the key pegs of his agenda. Let us all come together to support him,” he was further quoted to have said.

He also praised Buhari for recognising June 12 as Nigeria’s new Democracy Day

The Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Justice Isa Dodo; Malam Mamman Daur; Isma’ila Isa; Mr Wale Tinubu; the Commissioner of Science and Technology in Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Fahm, also joined the President in breaking the Ramadan fast.

Well, Ekwueme was thinking rationally like a normal igbo man, who feels he must step aside and allow party supremacy override his personal ambition of being president. He stood down for Obasanjo and in the end, all Igbos and other Nigerians voted Obasanjo into power. The man that even fought him bitterly was Falae, his yoruba egba man.

Tinubu represents the average yorubaman who will first think tribe and want to grab everything on the table as if he's the most hungry person out there.

That's why I think the concept of Nigeria as a united country is utter rubbish. But we don't need to worry too much, the country will most definitely self destruct. The SW is already pressing the button.
There is no way any other person could be president in 1999 except the yoruba's..It was a compensation against the death of Abiola and that is a fact..But when the south-west called for GEJ to be president after the death of yarudua we were not hungry then?Hunn? When we voted for GEJ in 2011 we were full then abi?or when two of our states,Oyo and Ondo voted for PDP against our own son which is the Vice President we were not hungry for power abi? When people like you paint yoruba as tribal bigots like you i just shake my head for una..In case you dont know,we yoruba's are the least tribalistic in Nigeria and that is a Fact!

Guess you are from the south-east,Do you know what you need to do if you want to be President?Just be united..from 1999 to 2003,the position of Senate Presidency was zoned to the south-east,You guys removed all of them because of greed..nothing but greed..It had to take PDP to send a strongly worded message to you guys that if any senate president is removed again they will take the position away from the south-east..It was only Anyim Pius Anyim that wasnt removed..Others of Igbo extraction were removed from office by their fellow Igbo Men and Women..

Politics'I Will Get Rid Of Trailers In Apapa Within My First 60 Days In Office', Says Sa by happney65(op): 8:21pm On May 19, 2019
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor-elect of Lagos State has promised to decongest Apapa road of trailers and containers causing heavy traffic within the first 60 days of his administration.

Sanwo-Olu made the promise on Saturday during an interactive session with his classmates at the Executive Master of Business Administration class, University of Lagos, 1998/2000 set.

At the event, the governor promised to get rid of the gridlock that has characterized Apapa road for many years irrespective of the politics involved.

He said, “The Apapa trailer issue; it’s a campaign issue; it’s very serious; I’m going to take it very seriously.

“I believe that it is something that we are going to solve in the first 60 days of our government. Whatever is going to be required of us, we will take them out.

“There is a lot of politics being played around there. But no, it cannot be the way we’ll continue to live. We cannot continue to give excuses.”

PoliticsFacebook Closes Pro-buhari Accounts Managed By Israeli Firm 'to Dent Atiku's Ima by happney65(op): 9:12pm On May 18, 2019
Some accounts created by an Israeli firm named Archimedes has been closed by Facebook

The accounts, before their closure, were used purposely for disseminating smear campaigns against Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and eulogizing President Muhammadu Buhari.

Many of the pages and accounts were discovered to be linked to a Tel Aviv-based political consulting and lobbying firm named Archimedes.

On its sparse website of African stock images, the company advertises its deliberate efforts to conduct disinformation campaigns, boasting that it takes “every advantage available in order to change reality according to our client’s wishes” through “unlimited online accounts operation.”

Facebook banned Archimedes from its platform on Thursday for its “coordinated and deceptive behavior” and conducted a sweeping takedown of dozens of accounts and hundreds of pages primarily aimed at disrupting elections in African countries, with some scattered activity in South-East Asia and Latin America.

As of the time of closure, the misleading counts had reached some 2.8 million users, and the pages had engaged over 5,000 followers, according to Facebook’s estimates

One of the pages that Facebook canceled appeared filled with viral misinformation attacking Atiku, a former Vice-President.

The report further reads, “The page’s banner image showed Abubakar as Darth Vader, the Star Wars villain, holding up a sign reading, ‘Make Nigeria Worse Again’.

“Another page with almost identical visuals, although significantly excluding the Darth Vader mask, purported to support Atiku, with the slogan ‘Team Atiku for President’.

“The report identified the page as a covert attempt to infiltrate Atiku’s audience of potential voters and manipulate their views, gradually spamming them with antithetical content and diverting them to the ‘Make Nigeria Worse’ page.”

According to the report, several of the removed pages attempted to defame candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party.

It said one page with artificially amplified audience engagement, called “Rivers Violence Watch,” pumped out political propaganda while posing as a neutral monitor of election violence, using the page description to mask its efforts.

Most of the pages claimed to be run by local Nigerian users, but in fact, were managed from Israel.

It said fake news flooded Nigerians and played a central role in the recent national election.

The accounts were also found to have been used in spreading rumors and promoting violence in an election which revealed Nigeria’s fault lines along ethnic and religious divides.

Despite the overt political messaging of these inauthentic pages, the Digital Forensics lab could not assign a particular ideological motive to Archimedes’ campaigns, given the diversity and scope of its general operations.

Rather, the company, which poured over $800,000 into deceptive content over the past several years, appeared profit-driven. The report did not probe the origins of its cash flow, and it was not clear whether political actors in Nigeria or other countries where the campaigns took off had paid for the company’s “strategic consulting.”

Facebook has in the last year closed down over one billion accounts used in spreading fake news.

Atiku has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission and the President to court, accusing them of stealing his victory at the poll. He claims the figures on INEC’s servers show that he won the poll, but the results were doctored in favor of Buhari.

PoliticsAtiku Is Trying To Make Nigeria Ungovernable', Says Lai Mohammed by happney65(op): 9:03pm On May 18, 2019
Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture has said the Federal Government is in possession of strong evidence that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and it's candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is putting plans in place to truncate Nigeria's democracy.

Mohammed said this Saturday in Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara state during the annual twelfth Ramadan lecture.

According to him, “Our interventions are based on credible evidence, and no government with the kind of evidence that we have, of plans to subvert the power of the state, attack the nation’s economic live wire and generally unleash mayhem on the polity, will keep quiet.

“The security agencies are all alert to their responsibilities and will not sit by and allow anyone to reverse the gains of our democracy under any guise.

He added that "Since our intervention, pseudo and partisan analysts have teamed up with the spokesmen for the main opposition party and its presidential candidate to either exhibit their ignorance or to engage in red herring and name-calling."

Addressing the alarm raised by the Defence Headquarters and The Department of State Services, he said: "As you are aware, a few days ago we raised the alarm that either by themselves or via their proxies, the PDP and it’s presidential candidate are doing everything possible to sabotage the Buhari Administration, generally overheat the polity and make Nigeria seemingly ungovernable.

"Of course you are aware of similar alarms that have been raised by the police, the military, and the DSS.

The minister called on Nigerian to in the spirit of Ramadan, shun 'anti-democratic forces' in the country.

"I make this request against the background of those who are daily plotting to exploit our national fault lines of religion and ethnicity, those who masquerade as Democrats but can’t take electoral defeat, those who will not hesitate to collude with anti-democratic forces and dead-enders to fan the embers of violence in the country and those who have elevated their personal ambition over and above our survival as a nation.”

DSS Warning
Similarly, the Department of State Services (DSS) issued a warning to those it said were calling for a revolution Nigeria Continuity and Progress (NCP).

The DSS in a statement on Friday said: “It is evident that the misguided group and its cohorts have also planned to instigate widespread violence against the government in order to actualize their infamous agenda of forceful change of regime.

“The DSS not only supports the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria but will leave no stone unturned in rooting out persons or groups desirous of truncating the process or undermining the country’s peace and corporate existence.

“The service will, therefore, not condone any form of extra-judicial activities or methods designed or adopted by persons or groups to subvert constituted authorities.

“Instructively, defaulting persons will surely be brought to book.

PoliticsBoko Haram Is For West African Fulanization, African Islamization', Says Obasanj by happney65(op): 5:52pm On May 18, 2019
Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, has said decisiveness is key if Nigeria wants to win the war against insecurity.

The Owu-born retired general said those at the helm of affairs, must tackle insecurity squarely without minding if they step on toes.

He made the admonishment while speaking at the second session of the Synod held at the Cathedral Church of St.Paul’s Anglican Church, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking on the topic, "Mobilizing Nigeria’s human & natural resources for national development and stability", Obasanjo said the twin evils of Boko Haram and marauding cattle herders were initially treated with kid gloves.

According to him, “They have both incubated and developed beyond what Nigeria can handle alone. They are now combined and internationalized with ISIS in control.

“It is no longer an issue of lack of education and lack of employment for our youths in Nigeria which it began as, it is now West African fulanization, African Islamization and global organized crimes of human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, illegal mining and regime change.

“Yet, we could have dealt with both earlier, and nip them in the bud, but Boko Haram boys were seen as rascals not requiring serious attention in administering holistic measures of stick and carrot.

“And when we woke up to the reality, it was turned to industry for all and sundry to supply materials and equipment that were already outdated and that were not fit for active military purpose.

“Soldiers were poorly trained for the unusual mission, poorly equipped, poorly motivated, poorly led and made to engage in propaganda rather than achieving results.

“Intelligence was poor and governments embarked on games of denials while paying ransoms which strengthened the insurgents and yet governments denied payments of ransoms. Today, the insecurity issue has gone beyond the wit and capacity of Nigerian Government or even West African Governments”.

Obasanjo continued, “Government must appreciate where we are, summon each group that should make contributions one by one and subsequently collectively seek the way forward for all hands on deck and with the holistic approach of stick and carrot.

He stressed, “There should be no sacred cow. Some of the groups that I will suggest to be contacted are: Traditional rulers, past heads of Service Chiefs (no matter how competent or incompetent they have been and how much they have contributed to the mess we are in), past heads of paramilitary or organizations, private sector, civil society , community leaders particularly in the most affected areas, present and past governors, present and past local government leaders, religious leaders, past Heads of States, past Intelligence Chiefs, past heads of Civil Service and.relevant current and retired diplomats, members of opposition and nay groups that may be deemed relevant.

“After we have found appropriate solution internally, we should move to bilateral, multinational, regional, continental and global levels. With ISIS involvement, we cannot but go global.

"Without security and.predictable stability, our development , growth and progress are in period.

“Let me hasten to add that we must be at the appropriate seat at the table of international discourse, deliberations, agenda and action."
