TonyeBarcanista: Press Release
The recent show of force and subsequent declaration of 10 “local Government areas as flash points by the Nigerian army is a veiled rigging plan for the APC. This plan we have learnt was hatched after the failure of the army to effectively intervene at the Ikot Ekpene collation center to save the Warsaw general and failed Senator, Godswill Akpabio. This announcement is therefore a smokescreen to aid the Army high command to deploy military personnel to aid in the hijack of election materials in favour of the APC.
As a party we are at a loss as to the foundation or basis for the declaration of those areas as flashpoints. It is common knowledge that no casualty was recorded in the last elections in Akwa Ibom state, unlike other states where scores of people were killed and maimed. We will like to remind the military that their primary duty is the protection of the territorial sovereignty of our country and not to take over civil policing, except in extreme circumstances (which elections do not fall within).
We hereby totally reject the proposed militarization of our elections and refer them to the judgment in the case instituted by President Muhammadu Buhari, who then was candidate of the APC in 2015 on the role of the military in elections.
We again call on the Chief of Defence staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Army Operations and the entire Army High command to direct the GOC 6 Division to immediately withdraw the over 30 soldiers attached to Obong Nsima Ekere, the 15 soldiers attached to Chief Godswill Akpabio and the 8 soldiers attached to Senator Ita Enang. As an indication of complicity between the Army and the APC currently in operation, it was the APC Governorship candidate who posted the news, even before the Army authorities pronounced it. The APC in Akwa Ibom has been boasting lately that, what the police under the ignoble watch of AIG Kimo could not do, the Army will do. Our obvious reply is found in the scriptural proclamation, “who is he that says a thing and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded”.
We plead with the army to desist from partisan politics and to remain professional in line with their Rules of Engagement, as this is the only guarantee for a thriving democracy. Superior officers should not become subject to politicians in expectation for favourable postings and appointments.
Finally, to the soldiers who are preparing to be deployed, we advice them to brace up to meet with the divine army of God which will be on duty on that day to guide His people and protect them from harm. Our party like always will trust in the name of the Lord our God, who is able to do all things, while the opposition will as usual, put their hopes on their horses, chariots and soldiers(Federal Might).
We encourage all Akwa Ibom people to head out enmasse to their polling units and vote massively for the sustenance of the prevailing peace, the continuation of the prosperity and the comprehensive development that the Udom Emmanuel administration represents.
Signed:

TonyeBarcanista: PRESS RELEASE
Nsima Ekere’s Habitual Display of Rascality and the ill-fated Demand for the Removal of REC Igini
Today, at the signing of the Peace Accord organized by INEC, the ‘One chance’Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Nsima Ekere exhibited his consistent, habitual and unrepentant show of rascality by coming hours after the event had started and sought to stroll across the main aisle of the venue. Of course by all protocol standards, he was advised to enter from the front door, but use the middle aisle to his seat which was at the other end of the hall. He resisted and insisted on swaggering pass the front. Protocol officers of INEC offered to take him to his seat but he left boasting that Igini must be removed.
Long before his arrival, his state chairman,Ini Okopido had arrived and was seated on his designated seat. The INEC REC asked about the whereabouts of his candidate, to which he replied that he (Nsima)was coming, that he had other engagements.
Earlier this morning, APC media hirelings had started celebrating the redeployment of the REC, which they alluded to the political sagacity of Senator Godswill Akpabio and the superior might of their party. Having realized their inability to remove the REC, Nsima Ekere and Godswill Akpabio hurriedly hatched the drama of coming late to disrupt the event. Like all other devilish plans, this has failed.
Raphael Edem did his duty of only introducing the Governor and other dignitaries and had stated clearly that he was not the MC. The official MC was Sammy Williams of Planet FM. But of course, Ini Okopido never tells the truth because he is always on the opposite side of the it. Mr. Okopido said that he was late because he was attending another event praying for peace, how laughable, when Nsima is known to adore, procure and sponsor violence. He was simply looking for a way of avoiding committing to the Peace accord, in preparation for their Warsaw promise.
All responsible Akwa Ibom Stakeholders including Obong Victor Attah attended the event in good time and participated effectively, but APC and their candidate Nsima Ekere can never conform to normal etiquette. Recall, that at the 80th birthday celebration of Obong Victor Attah, Mr.Nsima Ekere had displayed similar ill behaviors by arriving the event 2 hours after commencement with a band of scruffy looking persons and attempted to swagger through the main aisle of the hall, while the celebrator was speaking. It can be safely presumed that this is Nsima’s ‘notice me’ strategy .
We demand that INEC directs Nsima Ekere to immediately append his signature and subscribe to the Peace Accord.
Finally, we strongly condemn this habitual show of madness by Nsima Ekere, which of taken as a sample of our state’s behaviour can create a bad stereotype, that our people are habitual late comers and ill mannered.
Any attempt to use this unfortunate display of infantile disposition by Nsima Ekere, APC and Co to further their demand for the redeployment of Igini, will surely fail, as others have.
Signed

TonyeBarcanista: AKWA IBOM ELDERS FORUM INEC MUST BE ALLOWED TO CONDUCT FREE AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS IN AKWA IBOM STATE
…DECRIES PLANS TO REMOVE RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER, MIKE IGINI
Culled from Vanguard Newspaper, Monday, January 4, 2019 (page39)
We have been reliably informed that there are plans to remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mike Igini and replace him with another Commissioner whose brief would be to help the APC rig the elections in the State.
It is widely acknowledged that the current Commissioner is a man of integrity, of honesty and is dedicated to conducting a free, transparent and credible election in the State. The APC is fully aware of the fact that they don’t stand electoral chance in Akwa Ibom State, the State being decidedly PDP.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Igini, an a academic of no mean repute, a man whose reputation for conducting free and fair elections everywhere he has been the REC, has told the world that he will conduct a free and credible election in Akwa Ibom State and that there will be no undue influence from any quarter to tilt the outcome of the elections in favour of any party. He has addressed a cross- section of the political stakeholders in the State and the security agencies on his avowed determination to ensure the transparency of the process. The decision of this upright electoral umpire must have rankled the APC who in their determined efforts to rig the elections, are making plans to replace him with another who will do their biddings.
We wish to use this opportunity to state categorically that we will resist any plans by the APC led Federal Government to subvert the will of the people of this State which as it stands is expressly invested in the PDP. The APC has boasted that they will deploy violence and the Federal might to impose their candidate as the governor of this state against the wishes of the people. They have variously boasted that they have pocketed INEC and that when the election approaches, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Igini will be replaced.
They have amassed an armada of thugs whom they have sown police and military uniforms for, to cause mayhem during the election to justify the postponement of the elections in the State or in some polling units in some parts of the State; they have boasted that this election will be a “do or die battle”. They have been employing military style metaphors to describe what they wish to do on election days-February 16 and March 2nd respectively.
We wish to state here that as Elders and major Stakeholders in this State, we stand ready to defend the right of our people to choose the leaders of their choice, leaders whom they trust to ensure peace, security, development. They also want to elect leaders who would have the collective interest of the people over the narrow interest of those who have a deep sense of entitlement to power, influence and wealth.
The key element of any democratic process is the conduct of credible elections where the will of the people will be expressed and where their votes must count. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mr. Mike Igini is determined to do just that, and he must be allowed to perform this patriotic assignment.
The world is watching and Nigerians in particular are watching.
