The author of a book titled “How to Murder Your Husband” has began serving time after her conviction for murdering her husband. According to reports, 71-year-old Nancy Crampton Brophy was found guilty of second-degree murder over her chef husband Daniel Brophy’s death. A Portland jury of seven women and five men found the Crampton Brophy guilty of fatally shooting her 63-year-old husband on 2 June, 2018, while he prepped for work at the Oregon Culinary Institute in Southwest Portland. Crampton Brophy began serving her sentence this Monday. She will have to wait 25 years before being able to apply for parole. Crampton Brophy’s essay was published years before, in 2011, and detailed various methods for committing an untraceable killing and professed her desire to avoid getting caught. Despite suggestions that the topic and content of her writing could constitute evidence in a trial about the murder of a husband, Judge Christopher Ramras excluded the essay. During the trial, a prosecutor did allude to the essay’s themes as Crampton Brophy took to the stand. The prosecution argued that Crampton Brophy was motivated by money problems and her husband’s life insurance policy. Crampton Brophy owned the same make and model of gun used to kill her husband and was seen on surveillance camera footage driving to and from his culinary institute. Although the police never found the murder weapon, prosecutors argued that Crampton Brophy swapped out the barrel of the gun used in the shooting and then discarded it. In Crampton Brophy’s defence, lawyers said her ownership of the gun parts was just part of the author’s creative process and that Brophy may have been murdered in a botched robbery. Crampton Brophy said she was only near the culinary school by coincidence as she had parked nearby to work on her writing. She also said she could not have been motivated by money as their financial problems at the time had been solved by cashing in a chunk of Brophy’s retirement savings plan. After the murder, Crampton Brophy was arrested in September 2018 and has remained in custody ever since. On hearing the verdict, she displayed no visible reaction. Fahdiga:Will the police in Nigeria see them as not guilty? |
Note: The story below not a real life story Tade and Kemi had their wedding a week after the End SARS protest which later got hijacked by hoodlums and was turn to means of looting shops and properties across the country. There was a mobile phone among the packaged gifts which were presented to them on their wedding day. The police came to their house last week to arrest them claiming a stolen phone from a store was traced to their house and eventually it was discovered to be the phone they saw among the gifts presented to them. Question 1: How will the couple prove their innocence since they don't know who among the guests gave them the phone as gift? Question 2: Are they guilty in anyway? |

The 73-year-old man, Chief Oforbuike Ani, a native of Amodu Akunanaw in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, who died after a widow allegedly plucked out his eyes, has been buried. The 38-year-old widow and mother of five, identified as Blessing Nwatu, was alleged to have hit the old man with a brick, where he was sitting in his compound on February 21, 2020. After the victim had fallen down, Nwatu allegedly used a knife to pluck out his eyes and left him in a pool of his own blood. It was gathered that neighbours, who got wind of the incident, called one of Ani’s sons living in Enugu, the state capital, who came and took him to hospital, where he died on February 28. Our correspondent, who visited the Okpebe community in Amodu on Tuesday during the victim’s burial, reported that residents described the incident that resulted in the man’s death as a taboo. One of the sons of the deceased, Barry, told PUNCH Metro that his father’s killing hit him like a thunderbolt, but thanked God that the perpetrator had been arrested. He stated, “On February 21, 2020, I received a call from my father’s best friend that I should come home immediately because my father was seriously ill. I thought maybe it was his usual illness. So, I rushed home. “While on my way to the village, I started receiving calls that I should come home because a woman used a knife to pluck out my father’s eyes. “When I got home, I saw my father lying down in a pool of blood in the compound with his two eyes plucked out. I asked a woman I saw in the neighbourhood where the perpetrator was, but she advised that I should take my father to hospital first. I took her advice and rushed my father to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla. “I met a doctor at the Emergency Unit and he asked me what happened to my father; I could not tell him much, because I didn’t have the details and he told me to get a police report before the hospital would start treatment.” Barry explained that he begged the doctor to commence treatment to save his father’s life, while he went to the police station to report the incident. He added, “He accepted to commence treatment and I went to the Agbani Police Division, where I reported the incident. Immediately the DCO saw the pictures of the incident, he followed me to the hospital to see my father. It was at the hospital that the DCO called his men to go to my community to arrest the perpetrator. “When I left the hospital with the DCO, I got a call from the doctor asking me where my father’s eyes were and if I picked them. I told him no and he said that I should go and bring the eyes. I came back to the village but could not find them. I went back to tell the doctor that I couldn’t find them. “Since February 21, 2020, the doctors started battling to save my father’s life, but on February 28, he passed away and because he had instructed that his body should not be kept in the mortuary, we had to bury him today (Tuesday) according to his last wish.” The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent that the perpetrator had been arrested and was charged on Friday and remanded in a correctional centre. Corona beer isn't making any changes to its advertising despite the name's unfortunate similarity to the deadly coronavirus. Constellation Brands (STZ), which brews several variations of the popular lager, said in a statement that its customers "understand there is no link between the virus and our business." The spread of the coronavirus couldn't have come at a worse time for Constellation, which is spending $40 million to launch its new Corona-branded hard seltzer. Part of the promotion includes a sponsored tweet that has sparked criticism for using the phrase "coming ashore soon." Replies to the tweet say the ad is in "poor taste" and that the brand should "lay low for a few weeks." Two surveys released this week show that the Corona's brand is suffering from negative buzz. 5W Public Relations said that 38% of Americans wouldn't buy Corona "under any circumstances" because of the outbreak, and another 14% said they wouldn't order a Corona in public. The survey encompasses polling from 737 beer drinkers in the United States. In another survey conducted by YouGov, the firm found consumers' intent to purchase Corona fell to its lowest level in two years. The survey also showed that Corona's buzz score, a metric that that measures favorability, has dropped significantly since the beginning of the year. Online searches for "corona beer virus" spiked in early February, but have since declined. Constellation Brands' stock dropped 8% on Thursday, although the entire stock market has fallen sharply as fear grows about the spread of coronavirus. The number of cases have climbed to 83,577 globally Friday. Nearly 3,000 people have died from the virus.
