Tbillz: •Demand assurances President’s wife won’t determine their successors THERE are indications that President Goodluck Jonathan and governors of the on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are at war over what sources close to the party describe as “unwarranted interference in political affairs” by the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. It was gathered that most leaders of the party were not happy at the meddlesomeness of the First Lady in clear party affairs. A highly respected PDP stalwart said President Jonathan risked protest votes from party members to save the country from further embarrassment by the First Lady. The source who craved anonymity told our reporter, “I have spoken to many elders in the party and they said they would not vote for President Jonathan because of his wife. Even myself will not vote for PDP. “It is not because we hate the president but we can no longer cope with the overbearing influence of his wife. So, expect among other things protest votes against Jonathan by even PDP members.” The source added that at a recent meeting with the president, some of the governors tabled the issue of the president’s wife’s overbearing influence in political affairs. According to the source, the governors sought to extract commitment from President Jonathan that his wife should not impose candidates on their states in 2015. Buttering the argument, the source referred to the scenario in Rivers State where Patience Jonathan is leading a campaign to make former Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike Governor. The source added, “The party elders are watching with shame the macabre dance in Rivers State by the First Lady. Recently, the First Lady visited Nyesom Wike in his house in Port Harcourt. “In that televised visit, she held Wike’s hand and placed it in the hand of Dr. Peter Odili. It is an endorsement and it has never happened before. That singular act is unbecoming of a First Lady. With what she is doing in Rivers, we won’t be surprised if PDP loses that state to APC”. The source added that in the history of Presidency in Nigeria, no First Lady was allowed by her husband to desecrate the office of the President the way Dame Patience had done. “This is the first time a wife of the President would be allowed by her husband to be this powerful. It is shameful that Dame Patience has the liberty to summon service chiefs, ministers and top members of our party at will. “Remember her meddlesomeness in the Chibok girls’ saga how she called meetings of service chiefs and parents of the girls and was shouting at them, insulting them on national television. “Where has it happened before? It was one embarrassment too many for Nigeria. The First Lady has brought the country to ridicule and party leaders are not happy with her excesses”, the source observed. The source further accused the First Lady of acting without seeking the permission of her husband adding that she had made President Jonathan look like a weakling. “Nigerians are amused that she has no regard for her husband. Imagine her recent resignation as a Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State Civil Service. Before the appointment, she begged for it and even her husband appealed for it. “It was the appointment that even the last Governor of the state, Mr. Timipre Sylva, refused to give her. But when she resigned because of her problem with Governor Seriake Dickson, she did not tell her husband. “She has been boasting to her aides and other governors that she would ensure that Dickson does not return and that there is nothing even her husband will do about it. The President must call his wife to order to stand a chance,” the source said, adding “What we don’t understand is why the President is allowing her to carry on the way she is doing. I think there is something the First Lady is using as a secret weapon against the President that we don’t know. No President has allowed his wife to be this power drunk. What is happening is not normal.” Mrs. Jonathan had in April this year paid a solidarity visit to Wike in his Abuja residence, saying her visit was to give him her blessings, noting that the governorship aspirant proved himself as a member of the federal executive council. She said, “I am giving you the blessing of a mother. The blessing a mother gives to a beloved son. Go and you will conquer. He is a Minister that delivered while he served in the cabinet. Wike proved himself and is ready to serve in a higher capacity”. The first lady further described the former minister as a listening and respectful politician, who heeded her counsel to drop his senatorial aspiration in 2011. “You listened to me and dropped your senatorial aspiration. I pray God to protect you, lead you and please go on with your aspiration. “I have hand you (Wike) over to our father, Dr. Peter Odili and the people of Rivers State. You are going to Rivers State for the betterment of all of us and to wipe our tears,” she stated. Responding, Wike assured the first lady that the PDP would emerge victorious in all elections in Rivers come 2015.

ROSSIKE: New auto policy to create 700,000 jobs – FG
National Mirror
Oct 24, 2014
The Federal Government has said that the new policy in the automotive industry is expected to generate about 700, 000 direct and indirect jobs and boost both petrochemical and tyre sector of the nation’s economy.
Director-General, Nigerian Automotive Council, NAC, Aminu Jalal, disclosed this yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 16th edition of Abuja Motor fair, organised by BKG Exhibitions Limited.
The NAC boss, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Administrations, Alhaji R.B. Salau, said that the new policy would also salvage the honour and tastes of Nigerians and bring out the component of the new national industrial revolution plan.
This is even as Vice-President Namadi Sambo reiterated that to achieve the full potential of the new National Automotive Development Plan, NAIDP, all stakeholders in the automotive industry must support and key in to the project.
Represented by the Minister of State, FCT, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide, Sambo said that government would promote the manufacturing of automobiles in the country.
He expressed optimism that made-in-Nigeria cars would soon jostle for space in motor fairs around the world.
The vice-president stressed that with tenacity of the organisers of the annual fair, Nigeria would become a gateway to the African auto market.
“The commitment of this administration in the promotion of manufacturing and assemblage of automobiles as a strategy of launching Nigeria into the class of car manufacturing nations is without doubt.
“The necessity to move Nigeria from an automobile consumer nation to producers cannot be over emphasised. We hope that very soon made-in-Nigeria cars will jostle for space in motor fairs both in Nigeria and globally, along with the Toyotas, the Hondas, and Peugeots of this world,” sambo said.
The FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, urged the automobile dealers in the country to take advantage of the large parcel of land earmarked in Tunga-Maje, near Zuba by the FCT administration for automotive market.
According to the minister, the land will provide the benefits of localisation of the industry, build synergy and spin-off the necessary multiplier effects.
“This is envisioned to stem the chaos in the sales of automobiles, especially of the second-hand type in every nook and cranny of the city.”
Chairman of BKG Exhibitions, Mr. Ifeanyi Agwu, called for a review of the new auto policy, saying it threw up new challenges which stakeholders did not envisage. He said a thorough review of the policy would ensure that many players would remain viable in the industry.

He then exclaimed and said,"hmmmm..." all the students shouted "Absent." He got confused and said," Shaa..." Three students stood up and said, "Which of us?"The teacher became more confused and he asked, " What is wrong?" A student stood up and said, " Sir, I'm not Wrong, I'm called Wong."The teacher now laughed and said, "hahaha" .. A girl said"Present sir." |

Politics › Re: Okonjo-iweala Urges Nigerians Tobear With The Nature Of The Economy by harry509: 12:11am On Oct 22, 2014 |
bruno419: Abuja – The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo–Iweala, has assured Nigerians that the economy is growing positively in spite of the reduction of oil price in the international market. Okonjo-Iweala, who stated this on Tuesday at the 2014 Ministerial Platform in Abuja, said the nation was not broke as being speculated in the media. She said “if you look back two years ago, that title `is Nigeria broke‘ was written in a newspaper article, it is like people are trying to force Nigeria into brokerage. “I think since two years, we have managed to keep things going, let me explain these; Nigeria is a country that depends on a stream of income. “That income is being able to collect taxes from companies, individuals and our income is also based on selling a product and that product you take to market and you take whatever price a buyer is willing to pay.’’ According to her, government is doing everything within its power to ensure economic stability in the country. She said that presently, government had been budgeting below the existing oil price to help build buffers in case of uncertainty. “We are operating an economy that depends on a product that fluctuates with oil price and we don’t have the right to control the price. “Just like you have in your own household, when the quantity diminishes or the price drops, you remember in 2007 to 2008, the price of oil dropped from 140 dollars to 38 dollars. “At that time, nobody asked if the country was broke because we had saved up 22 billion dollars in the Excess Crude Account and we were able to continue spending and to stablise the economy.’’ The minister said that presently Nigeria was faced with fluctuations in quantity and price of oil, adding that it had affected the amount paid into government coffers. “Does that mean that the country is broke? We still have resources that we depend on; we still have the ability to tax. “Sometimes, things need to be a little tighter, easier and we just have to weather it and manage ourselves but that does not amount to the country being broke.’’ The finance minister said if government was not able to pay salaries to people and continue to manage, “then we can say that the country is broke but we have not gotten there yet.’’ She urged Nigerians to bear with the nature of the economy, adding that it was the reason every effort was challenged to ensure the economy was diversified. Commenting on the management of the fiscal deficit, she said that the Ministry of Finance would continue to ensure that it was kept as narrow as possible. She said that in 2013, the debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ration was 1.4 per cent and 1.03 per cent in 2014 and projected to be one per cent in 2015 budget. . She added that borrowing had been on the decline and external debt stood at N1.46 trillion or 14 per cent of the total debt. The ministry had adopted prudence to debt management and Nigeria’s debt to GDP remained one of the lowest in the world. (NAN)
