Politics › Re: FG To Buy Cooking Stoves With N9.2bn by harry509: 8:53am On Nov 27, 2014
Omooba77:
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the purchase of N9.2billion worth of clean cook stoves and wonder bags for rural women under the National Clean Cooking Scheme.

Wonder bag is a non-electric slow cooker invented by Sarah Collins, ‎a south African eco-entreprenuer, who came up with the idea six years ago during a power cut, when she decided to keep her dinner cooking by surrounding the pan with cushions.

The council also awarded a contract of N60.9billion to an indigenous firm, KaKatar CE Limited, for the provision of engineering infrastructure for Kyami District, Zone C, Abuja.

Supervising Minister of Information, Dr. Nurudeen Muhammed; Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrecia Mallam; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

Muhammed said the N9.2billion inclusive of Value Added Tax was approved for the procurement of 750,000 units of clean cook stove and 18,000 wonder bags.

He said the stoves are expected to be delivered by Messrs Integra Renewable Energy Services Limited within a period of 12 weeks.

He noted that the stoves which will be assembled locally, will provide jobs to Nigerians among other benefits.

The minister said, “The National Clean Cooking Scheme is an aggressive drive to engender clean cooking culture amongst the poor rural women, to reduce and possibly eliminate cooking with solid fossil which is detrimental to health.

“The scheme is expected to provide 20 million clean stoves over a five-year period at the rate of four million stoves yearly which will be distributed without charge.

“It will also reduce incessant felling of trees which exposes the country to ecological problems.

Celebrities › Re: Is D'banj Broke? Kokomaster Hit With Messy Debt Scandal by harry509: 9:33am On Nov 25, 2014
Ishilove:
It appears super star, D’banj is having financial challenges as available report shows he has been hit with a $240,000 debt scandal.

A technology company, MindHub Technologies, headed by a top oil and gas industry player, Henry Ojogho, is claiming that the kokomaster, D’banj is owing the company the sum of $240,000 and another N15, 000,000.

According to the MindHub Technologies, D’banj, through his company, DKM Media Limited, obtained a loan of over N60m from them in January, 2013 and has not paid back the said sum despite signing an undertaking to do so.

In addition, the technology company claimed that the entertainer has issued two cheques already; one on December 20, 2013 and another on January 20, 2014, both of which had to be returned unpaid after presentation because the pop star’ accounts were not funded enough.

According to documents obtained by NET, a firm of attorneys, D.U.ODIGIE & CO acting on behalf of Henry Ojogho, in a letter addressed to D’Banj, wrote:

'‘Following the default by D KINGS MEDIA LIMITED to pay the debt to our client, and pursuant to the aforementioned personal Guarantee/Memorandum of Undertaking, you issued two post-dated cheques; one for the sum of $240,000 (Two Hundred and Forty Thousand United States Dollars Only) dated 20/12/2013, and the other for the sum of N15,000,000 (Fifteen Million Naira Only) dated 20/1/2014.

Both cheques were returned unpaid on presentation by our client. We are further informed that although you thereafter paid the sum of N8, 600,00.00K (Eight Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira Only) out of the N15,000,000,00k (Fifteen Million Naira Only) (in) Cheque, leaving a balance sum of N6,400.000.00k (Six Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira Only), you have failed, neglected or refused to redeem the entire or any part of the $240,000.00 (Two Hundred and Forty Thousand United State Dollars) cheque.'’

https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/dbanj-bill-gates-300x194.png?3458e9

It has further been revealed that Henry Ojogho is not the only wealthy man claiming D’banj owes him in recent times. There are a number of others.

'‘Using the sympathy and naivety of unsuspecting investors coming into the game to dupe them is criminal and absolutely destroying the image of the industry at large, because in the long run, it affects and corrupts the judgment of genuine investors who would pull out for fear of being duped,'’ a source told NET.

Below is are a number of names he allegedly owes, according to sources:

WALTER WAGBATSOMA (200,000 Pounds): Mr Walter is a billionaire with investments in major areas, ranging from oil and gas to real estate, banking, equities and even insurance. He is the founder and executive Vice Chairman of Ontario Oil and he’s one of the first men who were said to have handed money to D’banj, with a whopping sum of 200,000 Pounds said to be involved.

PRINCE D. OKONKWO ($200,000): He’s the chairman, Board of Directors of Tetrazini Group of Companies and he is said to have given about $200,000 to D’banj in the name of investing in entertainment. When the issue with Prince Okonkwo got out of hand, D’banj was said to have sought help from Dapo Abiodun, boss of Heyden Oil and Gas who helped him take care of the debt through a repayment plan.

Health › Re: Effects Of Taking Too Much Garri On Sight by harry509: 8:52am On Nov 22, 2014
Akbee:
Consumption of garri is as important as
anything among the populace of West
Africa like Togo, Nigeria, Benin Republic
and others. It gains this importance not
only because of its cheap and readily
available source of food but also a fast
food which requires sugar, coconut,
groundnut, meat, fish, or processed
preferred products like Kulikuli (yoruba) and
water for the readiness of its consumption.

Its transformation into other foods like Eba
also increases its vitality and consumption
among the African populace to the extent
that it calls for no public advertisement
before its sale us made. However, the
consumption if this African renowned grain
has been reported to cause detriments to
the eye like blindness, anemia, cough,
among others. Most importantly, eye
defects which have made some populace
enemies to the consumption of garri and
its by food products.

Arguably, the cause
of this is reported to be the presence of
excess hydrocyanic acid in cassava which
garri is made from due to unwell
processing. The recommendation by WHO
is at most 10ppm of cyanic acid in the
food product. However, its excess,
continuous and frequent consumption may
cause the accumulation and thereby
leading to its adverse effects. The presence
of this acid in cassava could be
understood as the water extract from
cassava kills plants because of its
concentrated form.

Aside eye defects, this
organic acid also causes intestinal
problems and make ulcer patient to
deteriorate. Same goes to other cassava
product s which when not well processed
will cause harm than than good.

Conclusively, excess frequent taking of
garri especially unwell processed one can
hinder one's health and give room for
unhealthiness.

Recommendation

- All our garri producers should learn the
technical know-how of well garri
processing and quality control activities
should be put in place.

- Verification of sources of food nutrient
should be cultivated ; carbohydrates should
be sought from other diverse sources
which are more nutrient rich example
potatoes, brown rice.

- Other complementing source of food
should be sought is as to reduce its lethal
effect.

NOTE: Eye defects could as well be caused based on one or more of the
following:

- Genetics

- Environmental factor

- Nutrient deficiency

- Nonchalant acts

- Lack of healthy practice.

Romance › Re: How To Know A Girl's Butt Is Fake by harry509: 8:39am On Nov 22, 2014
OshovieWilliams:
You can easily tell if a girl's buttocks is fake by observing her attitudes towards herself and others.

1. She is very conscious of it: when a girl is overly conscious of her buttocks all the time, it could be a sign that it is fake. Maybe she feels inadequate about it; maybe she feels something that should be hidden is been shown. If she's wearing a butt pad, she may be wondering if there are bulges that could be suspicious.

2. She wants you to look at it. Go on-line and see photos of fake butts with the owners having a thing in common-"look at my....!"-they all want you to look at it.
Even in the real world, the real naturally beautiful girls don't even have time for beauty contests.
Unu na-anugo?

3. They price it too much. Since it boosts their self-esteem, it becomes a treasure to them. Most girls with natural bigger sized butts don't even have time for it. To them, there is more to their lives than that: it doesn't solve their problems; it rather attracts lucherous or "irresponsible" males to them. But those with the fake ones, always brag about it.

If you have more, feel free to add.
Let's educate and enlighten our brothers, together.

Ishilove:
Three female police officers who went to make an arrest at Oregbeni quarters in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State were on Wednesday beaten and stripped naked.

The police officers are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

They were invited by a landlady in the area to arrest one of her tenants when a fracas ensued.

The Nation gathered that trouble started when the tenant insisted on taking her bath before going to the police station but the police officers said she should follow them.

A fracas ensued and other residents in the area joined the tenant to beat and stripped the police officers.

The landlady who gave her name as Mrs. Okebuse said she invited the police because she had given the tenants quit notice.

She said, “When the police came to make arrest, they started fighting the police. I ran for my life and hid in the other compound.”

An eyewitness said the landlady uses police to harass her tenants.

“The woman was taking her bath and the police officers refused to allow the woman to take her bath,” the eyewitness said.

The state’s Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, who expressed disappointment at the attack, said the police would not take the attack likely.

Adebanjo said the attackers would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said suspects arrested have already been charged to court.

Education › Re: "My Boyfriend Encouraged Me" –UNILORIN Best Anatomy Graduate by harry509: 9:40am On Nov 19, 2014
Ishilove:
Not all young girls in universities easily admit that they have boyfriends. Their male counterparts, many of them claim, are a source of distraction.

Therefore, in the thinking a good number of female undergraduates, there is no need to keep boyfriends on campus. But this is not the thinking of the University of Ilorin 2013/2014 best Anatomy graduating student, Fatima Sulaimon.

The 22-year-old is not just proud of her boyfriend, she is also happy with the relationship.

According to her, her boyfriend is the elixir for her success. She said, “He encouraged, inspired and assisted me to excel in my studies.”

Sulaimon, with a Cumulative Grade Average Point of 4.80, not only emerged as one of the 48 first class graduates this year, she is also the first female to obtain that grade in Anatomy in the history of the 29-year-old university.

Claiming however that the relationship with her boyfriend was a ‘normal friendship devoid of untoward indulgences’, she stated that the young man gave her a lot of psychological support.

The lass added, “He encouraged me. At times, even if I woke up in the night and I felt dizzy, I would just put a call across to him and after discussing with him, I would feel okay. He was more of a friend. He encouraged, inspired and assisted me.”

Claiming she was never involved in ‘sorting’ bribing lecturers for scores – or was never sexually harassed by lecturers and students in the institution, she noted that she read at least six hours daily aside from lectures and other academic engagements.

A Nupe from the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, Sulaimon attended Ipakodo Junior Grammar School, Lagos between 2003 and 2006 and Ipakodo Senior Grammar School between 2006 and 2009, posting excellent results in his West African Senior School Certificate Examinations and national Examinations Council.

She explained, “I never did sorting. I never heard of such in the university. I also never suffered sexual harassment or undue overtures from lecturers and even from my colleagues. The lecturers did not know me until 400 levels; even then, they were all nice.

“I thank God for the feat I recorded. I am happy and fulfilled because to make a first class is not an easy feat.

“I did not really have social life. I am not the type that goes out. I like playing games. I sleep reasonably. I read most of the times if I am not in class. I read at least six hours daily outside lectures and other academic engagements.

“Undergraduates should be prayerful in life. They should abide by the rules and regulations of any institution they are. If they obey school regulations, they will not become victims. ”

Another graduate, who obtained first class in Electrical Engineering from the university, Ahmed Aleshinloye, said it was not an easy accomplishment for him.

Ahmed, from Ibaja, Ifelodun Council Area, who scored a CPGA of 4.50, stated that he achieved the academic glory through commitment.

The 21-year-old son of a lawyer, Raheem Aleshinloye, said, “I feel great obtaining first class from UNILORIN. Considering the current rating of Nigerian universities today, the institution is the first and it requires diligence and commitment to excel there. When I entered the school five years ago, I was told that it would not be easy, but today I am leaving the ivory tower alongside 47 others with first class.”

Politics › Re: Nigeria Ranked Fourth On Global Terrorism Index by harry509: 8:46am On Nov 19, 2014
Ishilove:
A new global study by the London-based Institute for Economics and Peace has ranked Nigeria fourth on the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) for 2013, primarily arising from terrorist attacks carried out by Boko Haram in northern Nigeria.

Nigeria is ranked below Iraq with 2,492 attacks that killed more than 6,300 people, Afghanistan and Pakistan, which ranked first, second and third, respectively, while Syria, now driven by a devastating civil war, is ranked fifth.

The institute, in the report released on Tuesday, said the number of people killed in terror attacks worldwide jumped more than 60 per cent last year to a record high of nearly 18,000 and the figure could rise further in 2014 due to an escalation of conflict in the Middle East and Nigeria.

Over 80 per cent of the lives lost to terrorist activities occurred only in five countries – Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria – in 2013, the report added.

Four Islamist groups operating in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria were responsible for two thirds of the 2013 attacks and the vast majority of the deaths occurred in those countries, the report said.

There were 303 terrorism incidents catalogued for Nigeria, with 1,826 fatalities and 457 injuries, figures bound to be eclipsed judging by the ferocity of 2014 attacks by Boko Haram. The cost of the insurgency to the national economy was estimated at $28.48 billion, with Nigeria also ranked 151 out of 162 nations in the Global Peace Index.

The report said last year, 6,362 people died in Iraq, the most terrorist-plagued country in the world, arising from 2,492 terrorism incidents, while Afghanistan had 3,111 deaths, out of 1,148 incidents. Pakistan, third on the terrorism index had 2,345 fatalities from 1,933 incidents.
The compilers of the report generally noted an upward trend in militant attacks globally, with two dozen countries accounting for more than 50 deaths in 2013.

The four most active militant groupings are Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (now renamed Islamic State), Boko Haram in Nigeria and the Taliban and transnational al Qaeda-affiliated networks in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“There is no doubt it is a growing problem. The causes are complex but the four groups responsible for most of the deaths all have their roots in fundamentalist Islam,” said IEP founder Steve Killelea.

“They are particularly angry about the spread of Western education. That makes any attempt at the kind of social mobilising you need to stop them particularly difficult – it can just antagonise them more,” he said.

The number of attacks themselves rose 44 per cent in 2013 from the previous year to almost 10,000.

Deaths in such attacks are now five times higher than in 2000, the report said, citing analysis of data in the University of Maryland’s Global Terrorism Database.

Most but not all militant attacks were religiously motivated. Attacks in India – the sixth most affected country – rose 70 per cent in 2013 largely due to attacks by communist insurgents. The majority remained non-lethal.

Increased targeting of police by the militant groups makes managing the problem even harder, Killelea said, sometimes fuelling rights abuses that compound existing grievances.

The report showed 60 per cent of the attacks involved explosives, 20 per cent firearms and 10 per cent other actions such as arson, knives or attacks with motor vehicles. Only five per cent of all incidents since 2000 have involved suicide bombings.

The report showed some 80 per cent of the militant groups, which had ceased their activities since 2000 did so following negotiations. Only 10 per cent achieved their goals, while seven per cent were eliminated by military action.

Politics › Re: Nollywood Star, Ex-commissioner At War Over Enugu Reps Ticket by harry509: 8:28am On Nov 19, 2014
teelacruz:
Nollywood star, Kenneth Okonkwo and the immediate-past Commissioner for Enugu Capital Development Authority, Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, are gearing for a showdown over who gets the PDP House of Representatives ticket for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Okonkwo, who became a household name after his role in the award-winning ‘Living in Bondage’, is one of the many Nollywood stars that have dumped acting for politics ahead the 2015 general elections.

He is however, facing stiff opposition from Ugwuegede, who appears to be more familiar with the political terrain having resigned as commissioner just few weeks ago to run for the same position.

Ugwuegede, who exuded so much confidence while speaking to journalists after submitting his nomination form, said he remained the aspirant to beat among all the contenders for his party’s ticket, including the immediate past chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Tony Ugwu.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the way Nsukka/Igboeze South federal constituency was represented in the House of Representatives and promised, “to render effective representation” to the people if elected.

He said there was need for leaders who have the interest of the people at heart, to make themselves available for selfless services to their constituency for effective representation.

The former commissioner said If elected he will attract as much Federal projects that are community friendly to his constituency. “I believe there is so much we can get from the National Assembly which we have not gotten”, he said.

He affirmed Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State as the party leader even as he said that contrary to the widely speculated crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, the party structure was in the firm grip of the Asogwa-led State Executive Council, SEC.
